This book is near 600 pages, but it could be condensed to 300 easily: by cutting back on some simplistic flow charts and over-explanation.Maybe the goal was to make the book readable for the high school level, but I didn't find its style or level appropriate for a graduate (MBA) textbook.One further annoyance was the authors' shameless and open promotion of socialized health care.A more balanced take would give the authors greater credibility. ... I have the 4th edition (at this time is the most recent edition in print) and as a psych home care nurse, this little, portable wealth of knowledge has helped me validate to management, as well as to public health and other surveyors, the range in situations that qualify "homebound status" for psychiatric patients.Throughout the book there are samples provided to support a variety of situations that help the nurse better understand, and therefore more accurately report, on each sector of the OASIS forms.Medicare regulations are explained in detail, and I learned information that I had not known in the 14 years I have been doing mental health home care nursing.The manual provides a history and background of homecare, its evolution, provides an overview of documentaion, including the importance of coding, and its significance in home care.Also, valuable tips on improving the nursing visit, setting achievable goals, managing the case, and the guidelines for care for all the home care disciplines, are provided, so the nurse can be knowledgable regarding the roles of the other disciplines.There is a great resource section at the end of the book, and home care definitions, roles, and abbreviations are delineated in this manual as well.All home care codes are listed.

Many Products Discontinued
I love this book and have walked into many stores carrying it.The only downfall is that many of the products have been discontinued.For example, Almay no longer makes the solid anti-perspirant unscented deodorant (you can get it in gel form, but I was looking for a solid), also several of the hair and makeup products have been discontinued by the companies that produce them.Since the book was originally published in 1995, it needs to be updated since products are constantly changing on the market.But the book has still been a useful tool for me.

I would have given it a minus three stars if it had been available
This is the hardest to read textbook I have ever owned.Textbook authors need to understand that they are writing for students, not their peers.I want the basics.I want to be able to read it in my own language and not have to continually look up words that the majority of people never use.I have other things to do with my time besides trying to decipher what the authors are trying to say.It's as if it's written in code and you have to figure out what it means.It's like learning a different language.They could have put the important stuff in a book about 50 pages long and left out 400 pages of filler.

Helpful - but out of date
I had this text book overnighted to me due to the fact that my campus bookstore didn't have it in stock.I paid the shipping then found out later that the book had been updated and my classmates were all using the fourth edition.The editions are rather similar and the book is still helpful.There are enough "real time" examples as well as charts & graphs to make this a necessary text for Health Politics.The appendix section is also noteworthy. ...
