Great resource.
I thought the text was great for those who are FNP's. It was a required text for my track. However, as an ACNP, it is a little lacking for more of the acute information, but other than that it's a great resource and reference.

FNP Guidelines
This is a remarkable book that gives the FNP, whether novice or expert, the continuity that is needed for the profession.I hope this will be updated soon.I don't want to buy another one until then but mine is getting pretty dog eared!

Ok. Let us consider it realistically and professionally. Nothing to say about the book more than what all others have said. Simply great. However, enjoying a book is not, and will never be, a goal in itself. What matters is what benefit you can get out of IMPLEMENTING what is in it.

Not Just for Hospitals!
I have been a Lean Production Systems Practitioner for over twenty years and have had the privilege of learning from some of the original teachers of Lean in the United States. I have been influenced by Deming, Juran, Goldratt, Peters, Covey, Kotter, Drucker, Greenleaf, Senge and many other authors on leadership and management of change and continuous improvement and organizational learning. I first read Fred Lee's book as I began a project to implement lean systems in several hospitals. "If Disney Ran Your Hospital" ranks as one of my favorite books on not only excellence in customer service but on leadership and organizational development. Good introduction to HS for non medical types
Using this text for a distance learning course.Seems to provide a good introduction to the subjects of Health Services.Written on a level I can understand, not being a medical person, but a hospital support person.

Oddly parochial title ...
If this book is only about the US health service, why doesn't the title say so?There are quite a few other countries out there in the world, and almost all of them have health services!

A Great Intro Into Health Care Finance
As stated in the preface of the book, the goal of the book, "was to create a text that introduces students to the most important principles and applications of healthcare finance..."This book was an excellent introduction into finance.Not only did it explain accounting and financial terms and theories, it uses excellent examples of real life health care situations to further the reader's understanding of the topics.This was my first time exposed to finance of any type.At the end of the book, I felt like I had a firm understanding of the basics.Excellent book for beginners.

Superb textbook
As a cardiologist, I have used many textbooks over the years. I am now a hospital's Chief Medical Officer and am enrolled in an MHA program. Dr. Gapenski's book is one of the best-written textbooks I have ever used. It clearly and consisely discusses financial concepts as they apply to healthcare. He has the ability to make the most complex concepts easily understood.

Excellent text with Case book & teaching guide available
This text is used at both the University of Florida and Wisconsin's programs for the Executive programs for the Masters in Health Administration.I just finished the course in November, 2000 - a course taught by the author.It was excellent.While it is written to meet the needs of a student with no financial background, the material can also be challenging to the CPA. Errors Galore
After purchasing the instructor's manual to check my answers, I found errors in every chapter!!From spelling to incorrect percentage amounts.I found myself editing the entire time to find their errors which contradict their text.When I got answers that were not an option in the multiple choice exercises, I would reference the book and the textbook would say I was correct, and the workbook did not.Not worth the money or the time.Extremely exhausting.

find something better to learn from
I took a night course which used this textbook. The instructor who is a certified coder and is an instructor at other institutions found MANY misleading instructions. You can be told to do something one way in the book but in real life at a billing job, you would have to do it another way. Also, we found many contradicting statements. They say one thing but do something totally different in their examples. It's really not worth the money.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
Understanding Health Policy
This book is very well written. Though it crams a lot of information into a small number of pages, it is easy to understand. It is excellent at covering all angles of a topic.

A little too focused on clinicians
I needed a book to use for a class I am teaching.This book, while excellent was focused on the clinicians' point of view, somewhat to the exclusion of other angles.

This is a very interesting prediction of what health care may hold for us this decade.I enjoyed reading forecasts of what the population will be like and their lifestyles, as well as buying habits. Health careers that will be booming were discussed as well as what medical advances will flourish. I found it interesting that this publication does not really predict a nursing shortage as everyone else is predicting. Inaccurate and vapid
If you've ever had any actual experience in public health, you will probably recognize this book for the sham it really is. Public health systems in the real world just don't behave in the idealized way that Turnock describes. Moreover, Turnock is far too uncritical of HMOs, which consitently fail to provide actual assitance (not just theoretical assistance) to patients who need it. There is also no understanding at all here about the ways in which class differences affect dstribution of health care coverage, or any discussion of what we might be able to do about it. Wow...
Boy, I'm surprised at the reaction the book is getting! I have this book, and it's really quite good - I'm an MS-Epidemiology candidate, and it's really helped me with the fundamentals of the field. Incidentally, in response to the implication that Dr. Turnock is less than qualified to put forth an effort such as this, you might want to investigate that, you can find his impressive accompishments at the school's website. Board certified in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, and former director of the IDPH, to name a few? Sounds qualified to me. I'd recommend this book to any PH student or someone looking to learn the basics...I don't hesitate to rank this right up there with Gordis. Cheers!

I've seen a lot of health care texts and this one is by far the best book of its kind.Very current and thorough coverage of all aspects of health care delivery. This book really shows you how all of the components of the health care system fit together. The author has done a remarkable job and all students in health care and health administration need to read this book.KUDOS!!!!

Fluffy
This book is near 600 pages, but it could be condensed to 300 easily: by cutting back on some simplistic flow charts and over-explanation.Maybe the goal was to make the book readable for the high school level, but I didn't find its style or level appropriate for a graduate (MBA) textbook.One further annoyance was the authors' shameless and open promotion of socialized health care.A more balanced take would give the authors greater credibility. ... I am not a case manager, however I work with them on a regular basis. I have found this book extremely helpful in understanding the field, theimpact case management can and does have on the health care deliveryprocess, and how it helps improve outcomes and contain costs, especially incritical and chronic care cases. I highly recommend this work

Good basic information
This is a very good source for a basic overview.It is well-organized and clear, but it is only a starting point.I didn't have a clue about where to start, so this is perfect for that.

I bought this bought and found it very informative. It is an excellent start-up tool and very easy to read and understand. After two year, I still refer back to my book.

Hard to get past the Typos
This book was amusing, informative and very easy to read.The author spends much of his time promoting himself as a Practice Manager and offers his help and his advice "by the hour".It is difficult, however, to envision the thought of paying an expert whose own book contains a minimum of 1 typographical error per page.I question the attention to detail and fiscal expertise of someone whose own publication reads like my 3rd graders book report (before editing).Typos aside, the book provided us with a baseline level of Practice Management information and offered a solid introduction to what will be a new endeavor for my husband and I. ... I would have given it a minus three stars if it had been available
This is the hardest to read textbook I have ever owned.Textbook authors need to understand that they are writing for students, not their peers.I want the basics.I want to be able to read it in my own language and not have to continually look up words that the majority of people never use.I have other things to do with my time besides trying to decipher what the authors are trying to say.It's as if it's written in code and you have to figure out what it means.It's like learning a different language.They could have put the important stuff in a book about 50 pages long and left out 400 pages of filler.
