Assisting in Long-Term Care third edition
The authors seem to out do themselves with each new edition that comes to press.Most text books are out of date before they go to press and certainly before the instructors can make their lesson plans for the students.By the instructor using the work book and the guide with this text you will have an unbeatable combination.Simple language and the technical blend and the student is able to comprehend with minimum difficulty.The previous editions have retired to become reference texts and so will the Third Edition when the Fourth Edition becomes available for this Instructor of a Certified Nursing Assistant Class at our local Technical College.

ASSISTING IN LONG-TERM CARE
I am using this textbook for a CNA course.I looked it over before registering for the class and the textbook attracted me to the course.It is colorful, well-organized, and thorough.I was impressed with the range of topics covered and variety of ways material is presented andre-enforced.The study aides and headings are easy to use and it is easyto read. an unbiased textbook that politicians who care about health care should read
The authors make a great point that poverty rates are increasing in this country, companies are fast dropping health insurance coverage for their employees, and immigration continues to be on the rise.These facts make this book applicable to almost everyone...since there is no guarantee that the middle and upper classes will have health insurance in the next few years.Remember how Starbucks became famous for offering health insurance to all employees, but the points raised in this book were echoed just a few months back, when Starbucks stood on the steps of Congress and said they soon would no longer be able to offer this coverage because of the huge increases in price.This book prepares you for what's to come and offers some GREAT tips on what needs to be done to help make sure that these problems don't tear apart this country.It's a great read...Shi and Stevens should really be commmended.

A BRILLIANTLY Written Classic!!
What else is there to say...this is a winner by far.It covers issues in health care for the poor and underserved so solidly, that this might well be considered the defining book on the issue.Considering how much it has to say, and how deep the theory goes, its amazing that it can also be SO UNDERSTANDABLE.If you need a good primer in health care for the "vulnerable" in this world (well, primarily the U.S. in this case), this is your book.I would only recommend that they cover international issues more...but that's probably something they could write an entire other book about.

Smart book, clear explanations, very comprehensive.
I bought this book for a class on health care in the U.S. and it was the only book in my entire year of school that I actually kept!The others I sold back for $10 each, but this one is a keeper.In particular, I liked that it gives step-by-step instructions for people and organizations to use to solve the problem of health disparities.Also, very clearly written! ... GREAT BOOK!
This book has a ton of information on the essentials of health care. Stuff like the difference between HMO, PPO, and POS. It also has some very informative graphs. It is divided in three parts (1) An Overview of Health Care in the United States, (2) The Resourses for Providing Care, and (3) Paying for, Managing, controlling, and Evaluating the System. All in all I give it 5 stars.

Competitive strategy applied to provider-side healthcare
I was pleasantly surprised by this book, which provides a nice overview of the leading concepts in graduate-level, economics-based competitive strategy as it applies to provider-side healthcare.The book takes many of the key concepts and frameworks from the likes of Porter, Mintzberg, Ghemawat, Hamel, Prahalad, etc., and applies them to provider-based strategic competition in a way that is both intuitive and functional.If you're not already familiar with the authors mentioned above, the book is a good starting place for moving on to more advanced (though less healthcare- and provider-specific) work.Regardless, I'd highly recommend this book for those trying to improve the rigor of their strategic thinking for hospitals, medical groups, schools of medicine, and health systems. ... GOING TO THE HOSPITAL
Great book for prepping for a hospital trip,a little dated,but we were even able to read over it again in the waiting rooms,and point out stuff that was in the book.We feel it help him prepare because it was "real" information,instead of always having cartoon characters.

EXCELLENT BOOK!!
This book is awesome!! My 3-year-old daughter LOVES it! It's very easy for her to understand, and the pictures of real kids having routine hospital things done to them is very helpful. She had a "surprise" surgery to remove a brain tumor 2 months ago and wasn't prepared for the hospital experience. When we found out she had to have another surgery, we immediately bought this book and read it 3 or 4 times a day for two weeks before her surgery. It has proven to be invaluable!!! Way to go Mister Rogers!!
