Get another book too
I recommend "Retirement Nightmare" ISBN: 1573927961 . To avoid a guardianship in the State of Florida, and other states, should be of paramount importance. Find out how to protect yourself and your loved ones with alternatives: health care surrogate, durable power of attorney, mediation and more. Consider that if you leave your parents to fend for themselves, and ignore the deterioration associated with aging, a guardian can gain a guardianship over them and their assets, without informing you. That guardianship will nullify the most meticulous of plans. To really cover your aging parents, make sure they create a "Pre-need" guardianship and name someone they trust, this is the only way predators in the retirement homes will not be able to force guardianship on them. Also create an irrevocable trust.

some contact numbers wrong
Basically a great book. Unravels the confusion that you face when trying to plan care for your parents. But I found a few of the phone contact numbers to be wrong. For instance: on page 157: The Transit Hotline Number. This turns out NOT to be a number forconsumers but for agencies. Highly recommende!

Aside from MS tech, the book has a lot to offer.
I picked this book up not because of the Microsoft-specific solution, but for the HIPAA overview. Sounds like the other reviewers already had that, but for me this is the first place I've seen it all laid out. Not worth the paper it's printed on
This book contains nothing valuable.The case studies in it are superficial and tells the readers nothing about what's actually going on behind the scene. For example, in the first case, there's an explanation about mapping between X12 837 to some other formats.The example shows a screenshot of a nice GUI that allows the user to map elements of X12 to some other format presumably by using XML mapping.But where does the screen gets its information from? This example doesn't tell us anything about how to come upwith a good XML representation of the X12 837 spec.Which is the first thing that any "solutions" would have to start from.I guess it's because of the closed-source nature of everything that Microsoft is doing, that they are afraid of showing the actual processes that they went through.Furthermore, they are actually proud of a solution that employs 6 different servers? the licensing costs alone are enough to put most clearinghouses out of business.If you're looking for an insight on how to actually help someone with HIPAA compiance, don't count on this book to be anything but a waste of money and time.

Where is the "Solutions"?
How can someone write book about a solution to a national problem where all they are doing is promoting the WPC product lines and some shallow Microsoft explanation of a server that can be found for FREE from the Microsoft Website. I could not find this book in the store to check it out before buying so I had to buy it. Don't repeat my mistake. Look for a more objective view and solution elsewhere.Read more

Used This Book Distance College Course
AH! This book was SO frustrating! Took this class distance and had a terrible time! I am very self motivated and have taken distance classes before, usually no problem working through a book--but this one was so vague in areas that it made doing the exercises impossible. No answer key to check your work, and if you get an instructor like mine (who didn't seem to have the time to teach anything indepth) it will make using the book worthless. Very thorough textbook
I have been teaching Insurance Billing and Coding for over 5 years and have used this text to teach my Insurance Billing and Coding classes over the past two years. I believe that this text is very thorough. While there are a few small guidelines that are not accurate, it definitely exceeds other texts in accuracy.
Worst medical insurance textbook ever
First let me say, I spent 8 months in vocational school, scored a 90% on my certification exam, and now teach medical insurance billing for a living. My school requires that I use Fordney's textbook, so I use it. But I heavily supplement it with McGraw-Hill's "Medical Insurance" textbook, which is one of the best textbooks I have ever read.

Everyone should read this book!!
This is a well written and thought-out explanation of the definite decline of American Medicine.I started reading and could not put the book down until I had finished.Dr. R. has written in good lay-language to really clarify and explain this awful mess. I am 75 years old and worry about the years I have left, but I worry so much more about my children's older years.It is a dismal outlook.I hope that someone can wave a magic wand to help this situation and bring back the "family doctor". Dr. Michael Rosenblum has taken the time to clearly detail the problems confronting our medical care system today and in the near future. This is a must-read book. I wonder why the national press has not picked up on this very informative and enlightening book. Where are the commentators when we need them?

Potent little book - required reading!
Dr. Rosenblum gets it all right here.Preserving excellence in health care for future generations will demand a serious soul search, particularly on the part of insurance carriers and other 3rd parties (including trial lawyers).The brightest and best students are loathe to study medicine because they cannot afford the education/sacrifice, and afterwards they cannot afford the spiraling overhead and risk of practice.Primary care medicine has indeed been thrashed.The doctor lays down his message with brilliant clarity.Fine suggestions are made (so don't give up hope).This potent little book is required reading. ... Beyond slanted, filled with inexcusable errors
The decision here to give a one-star review is difficult because this volume contains some basic factual information possibly of use to some readers.The rating is nevertheless appropriate, however, because this volume contains so many inexcusable errors that even its factual information is called into question.
An important resource
With all that is going on with Enron and my own concerns about retirement plans and social security this book is a must have. The author fills the book with valuable information and insights regarding not just the history of social security, but what it all means for me and my future.
