Good textbook, but double-check info
This is a good textbook if you have other resources available to double-check the information. The main problem I found with this book is that it tends to contradict itself, which can be quite frustrating for a student who is preparing for a test. For instance, the text will tell you that a certain condition usually presents as a single lesion, but the table right next to it says that same condition usually presents as a multiple lesion. This doesn't happen all the time, but it is more often than I would expect for a textbook.
Great Textbook for Diagnostic Ultrasonography
I have read the previous edition of this book. Compare the fourth edition, several improvements have been made in this edition: Each chapter begins with a list of key terms and definitions. Color illustrations and layout are used. A lot of new ultrasound images are added and the qualities of these images are much better. The text has been retrenched. Important points are put in tables for differentiation. Even there are still a few mistakes in this edition, I believe this is a great book.

Oschman did something quite exceptional in this book; he expressed my understanding of the way living things work, but went beyond my dark intuitive sense of the significance of the whole, to a crisp,intellectual, yet poetic, expression of the parts in relation to that whole

Exceptional compilation of research
I received this book from Amazon a few days ago and am halfway through it. I'm so impressed by Oschman's compilation of research - it's provided me with countless answers I've been seeking all my life. I am a degreed mechanical engineer, and am currently getting an advanced degree in Oriental Medicine. I've also been practicing Reiki and other energy healing modalities for several years, having been drawn into these alternative healing fields because of my natural ability for sensing subtle energies ever since I was little. Until I started reading Oschman's book I never had a scientific explanation for this energy or why it was so helpful in healing others. I've always known that these energies are real but I definitely appreciate a scientific explanation for any type of energy phenomenon - it makes it much easier to explain to others who haven't had similar experiences why and how they happen. I meet a lot of people who are interested in energy healing and some who are quite skeptical of its validity. Thanks to this book, I now have a clear way of explaining what I and countless others have known all along - that energy medicine really does work. If you're simply curious about why energy medicine works, or you're a practitioner yourself and have wanted a scientific way of explaining its validity to your friends and clients, you'll definitely appreciate this book (even with the $40 price tag). Keep in mind, however, that this book will not teach you how to practice any of these energy medicine techniques - it will simply give you a very clear and easy way to explain why they work. ... Excellent book - But it could use a "cosmetic" update
Good subject coverage, knowledgeable author, and plenty of uncluttered figures makes this book very worthwhile.The only thing missing from this excellent book is an update.Although this is the third edition (1998),almost all of the equipment photographs are from the early-to-mid 1970's. An extensive and broad Suggested Reading section follows most chapters butagain far far too many references are to early 1970's books and manuals. An update could earn this book a 5+ rating. ... An amazing book
It is just unbelieveable.The collection of photographs is the best that i have come across. I have several forensic pathology books in my collection and this book has the best collection of real life photographs. Excellent resource for working as a professional with children
I have been using this in my therapy practice and have found it very resourceful. It has wonderful suggestions for the therapist to untilize in assisting childrento express and resolve their issues when in situations they are unable to resolve through the expressions of words. Simply the Best
I regard this as the best single text in radiology, and it's one of two that I use on a daily basis. I only bought it because someone stole my last one.

Not the most in depth source for MSK radiology but a great overview of important topics and their MRI findings.

another diet book
Normally, I am not one to read "diet" books.Recently I have found interest in books about nutrition, but not "diets".I consider the difference to be that nutrition is an overall perspective of how different types of foods either help or hinder our overall health and a "diet" is more of a "do this, and don't do that".Based on some of my recent nutrition reading, I am paying closer attention to the processed foods that I consume. As a result, I came to believe that sugar is probably the one processed food that I consume the most of, either from drinking a cup of coffee or eating a piece of bread that has "honey" listed as an ingredient.Based on this, I decided to read up more on the subject of sugar in general.
works like a charm
I, without realizing it, went on a VERY modified version of this book. I am not so much reviewing the book per se, but the concept of eliminating or reducing sugar and starch to lose weight.To boil it down, I had been working out and following a "low fat" diet, only to realize that I still wasn't at my targe weight, and it seemed like I was continually reducing down my calorie intake to even maintain where I was at.In fact, I think I was even gaining weight.Well, on the advice of a bodybuilder I knew, I looked at my diet to identify what the problem might be.It wasn't fat, because I was eating less than 10 grams a day!I was, however, starting each day with a 32 ounce soda, having a sandwhich without mayo and some fat free chips or pretzels for lunch and a frozen "low fat" dinner (usually a piece of chicken, some potatoes and a veggie and a dessert).I was of course, hungry most of the time and killing those cravings with things like cans of soda, fat-free hostess cupcakes, pretzels, popcorn, etc.

A wonderful, scientific voyage
This book offers a broad coverage of the underlying structures and processes of speech. Beyond a primitive stage, man is unique in his ability to convey information by using his voice. And he has developed this ability from systems designed for more vital goals (eg., respiration and nutrition). In this respect, the work by Seikel, King and Drumright proves a great resource for studying the entire apparatus involved in voice production and perception, specifically the systems of respiration (energy source), phonation (voicing), articulation and resonation filtering), mastication and deglution, hearing, and neural. Furthermore, it includes several appendices for quick access to anatomical terms, morphology of terms, muscles, sensors and nerves, and a review of pathologies affecting production of voice. What I liked the most about the book is that you are systematically guided through all the germane systems, and when pertinent, the book provides references for deeper understanding of the material. Besides, after you have read sufficient content, the book shows summaries for reinforcement of the learnt concepts. Also, there are clinical notes distributed throughout the text, with germane discussions (related processes, pathologies, etc.). And every chapter has a set of questions for assessment of your understanding (do not worry, answers are included!).

Non-Working Disk
The disk that came with the book is a data disk only, and does not contain the program that created the data.That is why the data disk is not a workable disk, unless you have The Medical Manager installed on your computer!The book is too geared to be used with the Medical Manager Software Program, and is difficult to read it as a stand alone book.
Medical Manager review
I am an instructor for the Medical Manager class and have been for over 5 years.I have used almost every version possible with the Medical Manager.This is a fairly good book for students to learn from.As long as the person reads the instructions and then looks at the exercises, they should have NO problems.However, if the person just looks at the exercise and does not read the material, they may have difficulty.Some of the exercise/pictures are different then the actual reading part but not too many.Overall this book makes it fairly simple to learn this program.

all you need for the CSCS exam!
like kent_mc2 this is all you need for the CSCS exam. This and the Exam Content Descriptions. Do all the questions in each chapter and read the chapters that you are weak on and skim the chapters you feel strong in. Use the chapter questions to see if you need to go over the chapter again. This can be done in a few days if you have some kind of science or exercise science background or other PTtraining. Some of the basic sciences at the beginning can be a bit intimidating if you did not take basic sciences in college, but only a small percentage of the exam is basic sciences. I keep this book as a reference now.

The essentials is just what it states - it covers the essentials! It is not the last word on everything written for everyone. It is primarily a teaching reference. This is a reference that has the research and science behind it to back up the statements.

Ideal for MT & MLT students
Little story - I never was taught hematology in a way that was understandable. I had to memorize a lot of stuff for exams. Once I began reading this book, light bulbs were turning on in my head; I began understanding reasons for various hematological disorders. Where was this book when i needed it?Anyway now that I have found you, I promise i will never sell you off! SH (ASCP) here i come!
One of the best med school texts
This is by far amongst the best medical school texts (not incl. board review stuff) out there. The 4th ed. covers all areas of hematology in a lucid, non-verbose style. I found it easy to read assigned sections for my Heme course in a timely and efficient manner. There is a good blend of pathophysiology and biochemical mechanisms essential to understanding disease processes; however, the presentation is straightforward. The text has frequent color cartoons, images, graphs and tables, which helped me visualize concepts. Moreover, modern diagnostics and treatment rationale are also adequately explaned. Overall, I am really glad i purchased this book, and plan to keep it for future reference.

Good Medical Text
This was my medical school textbook for a four week module on hematology. What I liked most about the book is that it only presented essential information. The absence of superfluous text allowed me the time to regularly read the assigned chapters while also studying the rest of the material for this class and other classes. I also found the book to be relatively easy to comprehend. (However, this is definitely not on the layman's level, and a good requisite knowledge of a first year medical school curriculum is necessary before reading.) Virtually every pathologic aspect of hematology is covered in the text: hemopoietic development, anemias, lymphomas and leukemias, coagulation disorders, etc. It also covers some treatments for the various diseases and pathologic processes. Very Informative
As a personal trainer, I am often faced with clients who have just finished rehabilitation in some form or another. This book allows me to understand the possible causes and implications of their concern being addressed. This is an excellent source describing the progressions and stages of rehabilitation. Detailed information and illustrations are included to cover post-operative, clinition (or machine) assisted motion, self induced motion, and maintenance.

A wonderful book adn a MUST HAVE for any one in PT pratice

Good book, BUT all that glitters....
I first read this book 7 years ago and still refer to it from time to time.It has brilliant no-nonsense and practical advice for anybody who wants to transform their body the only way possible (that is, diet, weights and cardio).However, I have taken away one star for two reasons: Firstly, there is this constant advice for you to take the authors EAS supplements as part of the successful 12 week program which is annoying if you are an international reader who does not have access to the stuff.Perhaps if he had suggested generic equivalents to his products for those who can't access or afford his expensive stuff then it wouldnt be an issue.Secondly, as the wife of a bodybuilder and as a person who has been weight-training for seven years, I know for SURE that some (not all) of those bodies used in the success stories were transformed partly through the use of steroids.Sure they trained and dieted to get to such low body fat and muscle-gain, but those of us who live in the gym and are experienced past the beginner stage, know what it takes for someone to change from "fat beer gullet" to "six-pack hunk" in twelve weeks.I still recommend the book though, I just didnt want someone struggling with their weight (as I once did) to think it is completely possible to get so much muscle in such a short space of time without drugs.But having said that, I have watched many people in the gym follow this program and lose a lot of fat in twelve weeks.

Great Book
I am a second year radiology resident.I just completed my first US rotation.I used this book and thought it was great.It has nice pictures and a well-put-together text.All in all, I highly recommend it.One of the best of the Requisites series!

Must have for US library
This is an excellent reference book with beautiful images of normal anatomy as well as pathology. It is very comprehensive with General as well as OB-Gyn coverage. My only disappointment was that it did not contain any pediatric ultrasound chapters.

Great Paramedic Review Book
This book is great if you need to review for a Paramedic Exam. The book is excellantly divided into sections based on the type of injury/illness etc.The book has many of the same questions as the National Registery Exam and state exams.The book also comes with a CD for further review.Thanks in part to this book I have my NREMT-P certification.
