Grant Wiggins, Warmed-Over
I got this book after reading the reviews posted here, and found it rather disappointing. First, the authors have taken from Grant Wiggins the idea that 'authentic assessment' should include assignments that test 'real-world' skills and interpreted it *very* literally; as a result you will find many examples here from soil science, forestry and engineering, but almost nothing at all from the humanities (I teach history and found no applicable examples). Combined with this is an implicit argument that the point of education is preprofessional training; the authors embrace the idea that the student is a consumer purchasing a skill set from teacher-salesmen. On top of that, it's very clumsily written. I found this a narrow and discouraging view of student-centered learning, which at its best not only applies well to the humanities, but offers a wider perspective on the 'preprofessional' as well: missing here are the ideas of generating essential questions, any discussion of how to incorporate those into syllabus design, or a coherent bigger picture in which engaging assignments that duplicate 'real-world' work are fitted into a learning trajectory. There is, however, a fair amount of discussion of the practice of assessment techniques such as the portfolio etc., but this can also be found in books that apply to a wider range of educational topics. Readers, esp. those from the humanities, interested in learner-centered assessment *and teaching* would be better served by going straight to Wiggins instead of reading the excerpted and narrower version of his arguments presented here.

Very helpful
This book provides extensive information about using online environments in the classroom.It details implementations that worked, and implementations that didn't work to show how to implement online enviornments to best benefit students.

not the best introductory text
It's not a stellar member of the essentials series.
Competes with Mettler
This is a new edition. Compared to Mettler this probably has a greater range of coverage. Both books are very good. Supplement with PET books like PET/CT: A Case-based Approach by Conti (this may be too expensive for a resident) or PET and PET/CT: A Clinical Guide by Lin (less expensive).

Excellent text for nukes
This is a great textbook for resident level study in nuclear medicine, and the first book I'd use for an introduction.It's concise, with excellent diagrams and pictures of scintograms, and it presents the physics and chemistry behind nuclear med, as well as clinical correlations and the actual technology itself (gamma cameras, collimator's, etc.).Although there are definitely more detailed (and much, much, longer and more expensive) texts out there, this is where to begin a study of nukes, and it can easily be encompassed within the scope of a one month rotation. ... A New Approach, A New Attitude
I found this book inspirationally.Not because the author beat the odds in surviving a cancer considered "terminal" by all of his physicians, but because he did it by rationally setting out to explore all of his options and did not just let the "experts" tell him what to do.
A must-read for brain tumor sufferers
Dr. Williams' book is a blow by blow record of how he guided his own survival in spite of his doctors and the constraints of the FDA in overcoming a glioblastoma.His program was well-researched and gives excellent suggestions for options in taking an active part in one's own survival.Should be read by all cancer patients, particularly those suffering with brain tumors.He also published an annual online update of the information contained in the book.

The Bible of GBM

A great start for the AST.
As a student myself, I found that this book is highly readable, but oftentimes, the text and layout feels cramped as though the editors were attempting to place every single chart, picture, graph, and piece of text on as much square area for each page.
Great educational book
I actually work in Central Sterile Processing. I found this book very useful with the information of surgical procedures, anotomy charts , surgical instruments. Plus it is very clear on its format, easy to understand and follow. This book will answer many questionsthat students going for surgical technology need or simple just like me, a person who works with surgical instruments on the daily basis.

good book to study from
I used this book as well as a couple of other books to study for the ct registry.while this book was not the best study tool, I found the test format in the book to be quite helpful.The question and answer format in this book was just like taking the registry.Some of the questions in this book are a little too in depth, but it helped me study for the registry by covering areas that I wasn't solid in.I would use this book, a registry review book by romans, the pocket atlas of ct body and head anatomy by richard webb m.d., and the MIC registry review book.I used all of these books to study for the ct registry and passed with an 89.hope this review helps anyone that is considering taking the ct registry.

a good study tool
I found the question and answer format helpful.It helped me prepare for the registry by making me aware of the areas that I was rusty in. The explained answers as well as the cited text was helpful. By no means let this be the only book you use to study for the exam, it is outdated.

Wonderful book
When I first obtained this book, I read it cover to cover to learn what they didn't teach me in massage school.I now keep it in my office and use it as a reference for helping my clients understand their health conditions.It is easy to understand and gives many alternative healing methods for conditions not discussed in other books.

Great Resource for National Certification exam
The pathology guide was concise and much needed in studying for the national certification exam for massage.By studying this book, I found out that there was some stuff I didn't learn in massage school but needed for the national exam. Who would have known?

All you have to do is look at the referances the author sited for this book to be scared by it- few and unreliable.Please note that there are sections in here that are absolutely incorrect. Every MT who wants to move beyond Swedish massage should read this
This was the book that convinced me that I could indeed so something more interesting with an LMT license than just "slapping bodies" at a spa. It opened my eyes to a whole range of new possibilities and confirmed ideas and approaches I had suspected but not articulated yet. A must have for reviewers
I bought this book when i was reviewing for my Medical Technology certification exam. The book is more difficult than the certification exam. But the beauty of this book is that it will make you understand the rationale and principlesbehind all the laboratory tests and procedures. If you can pass at least 60% of the questions in this book. You have a good chance of passing the certification exam.
