4-0 out of 5 stars Current OB and GYN Dx and Tmt
As a busy 4th yr resident, there is hardly any time to read the major OB/GYN textbooks. This text is a good review of major concepts in OB/GYN. It's a very easy read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for 3rd year med school
I used this book as a supplement to my 3rd year clerkship in med school. It is not a huge text, so it was great for looking up the details that were not found in Blueprints, especially if you are interested in OB for a career. The book is well organized and is easy to read.Too much to read for board review or shelf exams, but an excellent reference book for OB/GYN.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful for quick checkups both as interesting just for leafing through
In every well equipped lab this book shouldn't miss. Especially for the beginner in practical work, there occur several situations in the lab in which some of the chapters can turn out to be quite useful. Whether you can't remember the calculation for the concentration of an RNA solution from a measured OD or want to look up how to perform a presentation of your data, this book can help you a lot. With the author's casually interspersed amusing comments it makes even rather delicate and easy to mistake topics as lab courtesy and behaviour in case of a mistake fun to read. The literature list proposed by Kathy Barker matches with what I found useful to read during my first years in microbiology. Altogether, the fact that this book is one of my most ragged and accompanying me from lab to lab speaks for itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good introductory material
I wish I had read this book when I started off on my scientific career. The book provides the broad exposure to a wide array of routine laboratory social culture and techniques without losing the detail which makes such reading meaningful.Even if you have newer or different methods than those provided in the book, reading the book will give you an appreciation for the early methods to which researchers will often refer. This will give the beginner a framework upon which to expand their understanding of the laboratory.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Graduate Students
There are so many things that classes don't teach you! This book can instantly teach the new laboratorian things that experienced laboratorians know but won't share such as: whether to autoclave or filter sterilize or how to be approach someone for help.A lab is full of volatile things the most dangerous of which are the other workers! If you've ever made an experienced lab person angry when you've moved their equipment or borrowed their reagents you'll understand how helpful this book is!

The Board of Registry Study Guide is a great study helper. I have been using it to study for my weekly exams.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great review book!
This book has definitely helped me get a good idea of the kind of questions that will appear on the actual registry exam.It is also helpful in the sense that it answers some FAQ's about the exam itself so that you know what to expect when you take the it.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your a Third year Medical student this book is a must.
I just finished my third year of medical school, and I found this book to be a must own. the topics quite interesting and comprehensible, and will help with most areas you need to reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best there is
I can scarcely believe that people dare to criticize this tome. I don't actually have Harrison--I have Tinsley & Harrison, as it was called in decades past. (People do grow old and die.) The notion that a layperson "can understand Hippocrates' Aphorisms in the original Greek" better is nonsense: frankly, it depends upon the lay reader's familiarity with terminology, yea, his or her command of Greek and Latin roots. That's what dictionaries are for, and that's also presumably what your English classes (remember them?) instilled in you--at least partially--at least hopefully. By way of superfluous comparisons to other opera campi, Merck just doesn't provide the depth of coverage: I regard it as a glorified Taber's.
5-0 out of 5 stars For the lay person---NOT!!!
There is a reason why med students learn anatomy, histology, embryology, physiology, and biochemistry before picking up Harrison's, so I snicker when non-MD's think they can read and understand ( with the help of Taber's medical dictionary, which by the way is used by nurses, physicians in training use Dorland's) a medical textbook, especially one like Harrison's.( What is especially humorous is that one reviewer recalled that the textbook was titled "Tinsley & Harrison "(sic).... funny because Harrison's first name was Tinsley, as in Tinsley Harrison, MD).This is like a layperson reading a computer manual then taking apart his PC and trying to put it back together. To reiterate a layperson has a better chance of understanding Hippocrates' aphorisms in the original Greek than Harrison's. Remember a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. To the reviewer that has Tinsley Harrison's earlier edition textbook, the medical information there is as useful as a screen door in a submarine. If it's writing style, literature and actual history of medicine that you are after, may I suggest "The Practice and Principles of Medicine" bySir William Osler. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for nurses or for any interested layperson
This book gives you a good introduction to pathophysiology without being very technical. Even if you are not a medical professional, you will still grasp the concepts because the author gives simple but adequate definition of the disease and its underlying causes. I am a career switcher (switched to RN) and this book worked for me.

Editorial Review

Are you a woman between 35 and 50 experiencing PMS, migraine headaches, sudden weight gain, fatigue, irritability, tender or lumpy breasts, memory loss, fibroids, or cold hands and feet? If so, you may be experiencing symptoms of premenopause. Even if you're a decade or more away from menopause, your hormones may already be out of balance, usually caused by an excess of estrogen and a deficiency of progesterone, say the authors of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The subtitle is more pertinent:Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from Thirty to Fifty
I found this book to be very informative. It really focuses on how your body needs and uses hormones. It addresses the years 30 - 50.There is a big difference between "Premenopause" and "Perimenopause". Pre simply means the years before you reach the point of menopause. It explains how you can balance your hormones and the dangers of too much estrogen vs. progesterone. It was surprising to me just how important it is to balance your hormones. It has helped me tremendously.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Resource
I have read most of Dr Lee's books and all have been very helpful and I found much of the information to be accurate. Anyone replacing or supplementing hormones should have their levels checked and Dr Lee states this clearly in all his books. I have adrenal insufficiency, Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid disease, irritable bowel disease, and myofascial pain syndrome. I take physiologic doses of most of the major hormones, the bioidentical form. I have also read numerous other books on hormones by other authors, many have something to offer to the reader. I use a bioidentical progesterone cream prepared by a compounding pharmacy and it makes me feel much better. I use it at night and it aids my sleep and raises my body temperature. It is an overall mood elevator for me.
1-0 out of 5 stars Use Caution
I purchased this book after it was recommended to a friend of mine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding atlas in a cheap binding
As with many Elsevier books, Spalton's is high quality context - and Spalton's is outstanding - but the book is bound in flimsy paper. Our copy arrived with the spine partially ripped at the joint; just resting this hefty volume on end ripped the front bottom corner of the cover. Looks great, but constructing a hardbound book with flimsy paper is a travesty.

3-0 out of 5 stars Would have been 5 stars if it had been edited well and on non-glossy paper
Great book, but I actually like the earlier edition better.I have the latest edition, but was disappointed with the many errors in the book and on the CD that accompanies the book. The Index has numerous errors as topics are not listed on the pages stated in the index. The CD also has numerous errors as the pictures dont coincide with the chapters in the book even though they are supposed to.
5-0 out of 5 stars The caption drawings make the atlas
This is a great resource for residents. A major problem with most atlases is that pictures of subtle findings are not properly annotated, so that the reader may miss the actual focus of the picture.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
This reference book covers developmental, clinical, educational, family, and intervention issues of concern to teachers working with children with disabilities. Written by doctors, it thoroughly explores issues than impact child development starting from conception through adulthood. Factors that can cause disabilities, current methods of treatment, commonly used medications, and guidelines for intervention are addressed. 4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Introductory Book
Batshaw's Children with Disabilities is a "must have" book for anyone who works with children with disabilities...almost.Written by doctors for those in the medical professional most of the recommendedinterventions come from a decidedly medical model. It is, on the otherhand, fairly comprehensive with sections dealing with genetics, development, developmental disabilities, and interventions with the bulk ofthe book dealing with specific disabilities from the obscure (Fragile XSyndrome) to the more common (AD/HD).I have not found Appendix A or Bparticularly useful (Glossary and Syndromes of Inborn Errors of Metabolism)but turn to Appendix C and D frequently (Commonly Used Medication andResources for Children with Disabilities) Finally, while the book offers anice mix of theory and application, I would like to see (maybe in a 5thEdition?) the incorporation of some of the so-called "new brainresearch."Nevertheless, I still turn to this book several times eachmonth. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars worth a buy if you do not mind typos
Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques is an alternative to Travell's Trigger Point Manual if you do not do TP injections. It has great pictures, well explained treatment techniques (if you are up to date with your anatomy and medical terms) and lots of references. The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the money!
I'm an Advanced Practitioner of Massage Therapy and find this book VERY helpful. The Muscle Energy Techniques (M.E.T.s) are explained very thoroughly, and the accompanying drawings, and or pictures, are very helpful. While familiar with the M.E.T.s, having this book as a reference for all the upper body muscles, and their positioning for the best M.E.T. applications, is very rewarding. I'd recommend this book highly to anyone that has a basic understanding of the therapeutic aspects of massage and M.E.T.s.5-0 out of 5 stars Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques - Vol. I
This is a really clearly written, concise book, with drawings and pictures of muscle positions, trigger points, etc.I bought the Jane Travell Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Books before this one came out, and for the money wish I had bought the Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Tech. Book.Unless you are a Physician, who wants to inject the patient's trigger points with a saline solution, and then you better be very exact in your aim with the needle, I think the Clinical Application of Neurom. Tech. Book is a much more practical, useful, hands on,straight forward book that addresses all the trigger points, origins and insertions of the muscles in a very user friendly way.Until this book came out, Jane Travell's was the only great reference guide; but what patient really likes injections? Now this book surpasses Dr. Travells, in that all the material in it is useful and usable. Can't wait for Vol. II, Lower Body, to come out. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, the Auriculotherapy textbook
The 3rd edition of Auriculotherapy Manual by Terry Oleson can be used as a standard textbook. In my view, this is a highest praise in the world of acupuncture with its differing approaches and disparate methods. Those differences are necessary, I must add, as it is the nature of acupuncture to depend greatly on personal needs of the patient and abilities of the practitioner.
4-0 out of 5 stars A useful book for the experienced
There is no doubt this book is comprehensive, combining a variety of different styles of ear acupuncture in one book. There are lots of diagrams of ears showing you the location of the different points of the different styles, which can be a bit overwhelming and confusing for the newcomer. If you are experienced in this field and/or need to know this level of detail on ear acupuncture, this is the book for you.If you just want the basics of one form of ear acupuncture, I suggestgChinese Auricular Therapyh by Bai Xinghua (Scientific & Technical Documents Publishing House; ISBN: 7502322612), which is a good standard for Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners.

4-0 out of 5 stars A true east-meets-west medical model
Terry Oleson's Auriculotherapy Manual is the mostcomprehensive text on the subject. If you are practicing Auriculotherapy (a system of ear acupuncture) or intending to do so, this manual is a must-have.This edition is a vast improvement over the previous, which was difficult to use.The new edition is certainly not easy to use, but it's an improvement. The subject is deceptively complex.Just sticking a needle in someone's ear is not Auriculotherapy--there is a level of understanding required to use the system effectively, and using a medical feedback mechanism is essential.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull Resourse
This is a wonderful resourse that can be used by anyone in the massage profession. It is valuable not only for the therapist but also for the client.Wonderful referances and great layout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, easy to use quick reference of trigger points and referred pain.
The trigger point spiral bound charts have the same diagrams of trigger points and referred pain patterns as the Travell & Simons 2 volume set, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual -- Volumes 1 and 2.They are grouped by major body sections for quick review and have references to the more detailed information in the manuals for ease in looking up additional information. They can be set up in an examination/treatment room to use for explanations to a client or for quick reference by the practioner. No need to fumble through pages of the manuals to find trigger points or referred pain locations, just turn to the chart page for the specific section of the body that the pain is located in and there is the necessary information.Because of their portability these are a great reference for therapists who travel off sight or instructors teaching in assorted locations. An excellent compliment to the 2 volume set.

4-0 out of 5 stars great book, better understand your research and stats!!!
