4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all
Just took the writtem test. Some of the questions were right on.Alot of questions based off of a "paragragh" which is unlike the National Test.Over all good help in forcing you to think like a Basic and use your ABC's first. Not up to current AHA standards as most other guides aren't either so some answers no longer correct. This book ranks up there with the blue "Learning Express" guide.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful any more
I took national registry on 4/06 and used this book to study, among others as well, and the test questions do not look anything like what was in this study guide.I also used the blue and green Learning Express books and found those more helpful than this.MAKE SURE you have airway down pat!! If you are going to fail an area on national registry, it is going to be that area.Hopefully this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank You!
I went to a school that did not challenge me. I graduated with a 96% GPA and hardly opened a book. When I got this book and scored a 70% on one of the practice exam, I thought the book was ridiculous. When I took registry the first time and failed, my eyes were opened. This book helped me a lot and got me by on the second registry attempt. My school should have done a better job preparing me for registry but lucky for me, I bought this book. Thank you!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This text is invaluable
I'm currently using this book as a supplemental text for my paramedic training. We've just finished cardiology, and I couldn't have done it without this text.I already owned Phalen, Dubin, and Huff; all are good, but the Huszar text is now the one I go to first when I have a question about ECG's.There are a multitude of practical illustrations, tables, and review questions.Best of all is the 200-and-some strips for practice in the appendix.Highly recommend!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best -
This is one the best texts I have ever seen concerning the principle applications of airway management. As a paramedic for 26 years with extensive street experience, I still found techniques to enhance my skill level beneficial in this text.Additionally, the latest techniques, pharmaceutical methodologies, and current theory were also useful to me. I have used this book as an expert witness during court testimony to validate procedures.A must for the novice or the experienced.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great read for a future doc
I was required to read this in medical school. This is a great book.It is leaning to the side of socialism, but it is certainly addressing a real problem in America. This book has been out for a while.I am wondering why in the world politicians and businessmen invovled in healthcare are not required to read this book. They should.I think it's good enough to qualify for 12th grade mandatory reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening read, but very left-wing
Mama was required reading for a graduate-level nursing course. It was very enlightening -- a poignant and heartbreaking look at a poor African-American family living in one of Chicago's worst neighborhoods. However, I found the author's style and choice of words biased towards the subjects and exceptionally left-wing.Not that these things really don't happen, but the author's descriptive language is heavily biased against the "system" while downplaying the flip side of the coin, that people need to take some individual responsibility for their actions.Abraham does her best (one would hope) to remain objective, but it is most definitely a narrative and should be treated as such.Still, definitely worth the read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Those Interested in Health Care Issues
I found this book to be a great resource for a description of health care coverage for the lower income bracket individuals and families. It discussed many of the loops that people have to go through in this process and how simply getting to the doctor's office is out of reach without the right resources. This was an insightful albeit incredibly difficult book to read.Health care workers should read this and get a feel for how something that seems very easy to say is almost impossible to do...this is worth the time and money! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Refresher and a Wonderful Tool for Educators
This book is written in a case study format that helps practicing paramedics and paramedic students focus on the presenting signs and symptoms of various illnesses and injuries. In addition to that, each case is followed by a number of questions that one can use to study each illness or injury that is covered in the text.Having been a practicing paramedic for almost a decade, I have found that this book is a great way to refresh some of the "not so common" things we in EMS may be called upon to see in a refreshing, new way.I used this book to prepare for the National Registry of EMT's Advanced Level Exam Oral stations and found it to be wonderful.I'd recommend it highly as a source for teaching scenarios for EMS educators as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mosby's Paramedic Refresher and Review - Great Review!
This is an excellent refresher/review for Paramedics.I like it especially since it teaches/refreshes by giving about 50 patient scenarios. You get to do the assessment, then flip the page and see how well you have done. What is also cool is that the book provides a follow-up paragraph that describes the final outcome for the patient.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Review
This is good to review for your paramedic test, even if this is your first time.It has a little review at the begining of each section and then it tells a case and asks questions with the answers on the next page.I thinkit is a good book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Clinical Knowledge.A great review
This read is not only sufficient for students and professionals alike, but remains as a solid material for review for any exam.It provides one with the basic clinical knowledge that is required of one who practices in an ED, or similar type of setting. The only pitfall is that there is limited detail regarding syndromes and illnesses.Still a great read and review.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Take the Test
Lately I have been in more than a few conversations about taking EMS exams. I took my EMT training at a local college. Much to my chagrin, one fellow told me how sorry the college program was because it did not teach one how to take the (EMT) test. Another fellow told me that he studied for his (paramedic) test by going through as many multiple choice questions as he could find.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't get your hopes up
When I compare the test questions that were in this book with the ones that were on my actual exam, I honestly cannot rate this book more than 1 star. The questions in the book were very easy with one clear and concise answer. If you expect the actual certification exam to be like this, you're in for a rude awakening. The questions on the actual test were tricky to say the least with many questions having more than one correct answer (some had as many as 3 correct answers). One must choose what they feel is the BEST answer which we know isn't going to be the same answer for everybody. No such questions in this book.I took the 4 sample tests in this book and only missed 7 questions on all 4 tests combined yet I spent the week waiting for the results of my certification test not having an earthly clue if I had even passed the stupid thing!IMHO, there's nothing that can truly prepare you for these ignorant tests except to try to stay calm and read the questions thoroughly and don't dwell on one single question-move on and go back and catch it later.I feel that is the best advice one can follow because if you study this book and feel confident after taking the book tests, when the actual test is put in front of you, you'll know what I mean!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Assistance with National Registry Test
As a teaching professional I know that the more questions that a student sees the better. Although the vast majority of the questions in this book were different to the type of question found on the National Exam, it was very helpful. I would certainly recommend this book as an aid to your classroom instruction, theoretical workbook and your ambulance practical time. In my opinion, there is only one way to ensure a successful result and that is to read, learn and inwardly digest the information found in your course study guide...there is no shortcut! In conclusion, this book did help me to find the areas of the syllabus I was weak in and approximately 45% of the questions were actually in my national exam in one form or another. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very well organized...
This book was not very easy to get through. It was too well organized. It is mostly outlines through the entire book. It was all I could do to finish it. Not recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Summarizes information!!
Our class uses a text and workbook.. this is much easier to read and follow. It puts everything in outline form so its easy to study and good review questions after every section.Much easier to study for an exam from than a text book. Its still a big book with alot of info.. but much better format.I really like it..I wish my class used this instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aehlert's EMT-B Review is excellent
This book is excellent for preparing for the Basic exam as well as for quick reference. Its outline form makes it easy and fast to find information you want to review quickly. In spite it of its outline form, it still contains a wealth of information. This book is a must have for any Basic student's library!! I have used it to prepare for my test, and have used it to help tutor other students. My acquaintances also attest to its helpfulness.MEGA-Kudos to Ms. Aehlert and Mr. Olson for a concise book. The chapters each have short tests at the end, and there is a 100 question review test, both of which are very helpful. The chapter on preparing yourself for the exam is great as well. This book was an excellent addition to my library and was really key in helping me do even better on my written exam.People who have been out of class for a few months will find this an invaluable prepatory book.Good Luck to everyone preparing to take their test, but if you only buy one book to review, I recommend you make it this one.I have purchased four of them, and this is the best of the lot. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Make It So
Mark Brown has collected ER stories from folks around the country. During my first ER clinical I pulled the legs apart on a woman with a broken hip so that a catheter might be inserted, I listened to the ER head med complain that it was Saturday morning and you did not start the day with an MI, I listened to the PA joke about a patient with "fibro-myassia", and I watched the chief doc stonewall a patient because the patient seemed to think that his (the patient's) pain was all that mattered. No one ever died from pain, he said. Okay, think about it.
