3-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read But I Have Other Recommendations.
For a more scientific approach, purchase "Diet for Dancers" by Chmelar and Fitt. To eat like a ballerina (light & healthy), buy Linda Hymes' "The Dancing Gourmet". These two books together are all you need.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great book to help you develop anorexia
This book should be avoided by young people. My sister was given this book by her teacher and still has problems with anorexia....

1-0 out of 5 stars read this book with caution
I have read this book several times, and as a dancer, it actually encourages me NOT to follow the outrageous diet plans of the dancers featured in the book.Admittedly, i can relate to the desperate measures that these people will take to lose weight perhaps temporarily, for a certain ballet or an important audition. However, these are not measures that I am proud of, and frankly I find it disturbing that Ms. Kent feels free to encourage extreme behavior, especially in young people (and ESPECIALLY young dancers!)The active lifestyle of a dancer needs to be supplemented by proper nutrition; the mere mention of Susan Jaffe's summer of drinking "a lot of iced tea" to help acquire her job with American Ballet Theatre is dangerous information for aspiring, developing young girls to have their hands on.We can only hope that anyone reading this book for the first time will take it with a grain of salt, considering it was written nearly twenty years ago. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A very good (but somewhatscattered) book-length FAQ
My one quibble with Dr. Vernon's book is that the smorgasboard of questions to which he provides answers seems a bit arbitrary and haphazard. For example, how about answering the question about what the current leading theories of tinnitus causation are, or what (in Dr. Vernon's vast experience) is the best treatment strategy for someone who suffers from this condition? You must look elsewhere for that kind of information.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gets you well informed on tinnitus!
Having mild tinnitus and wanting to learn a little bit of how the future might make it worse, and what I could do to keep it from getting worse, I needed a good source of information. I found a lot of info on the web, but soon understood I needed info of a more reliable and unbiased kind. So I read this book "Tinnitus: Questions and Answers" and was very satisfied. It covers the topic of tinnitus both in depth and width, and it does so in an unbiased and easy to understand way.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is so very hepful
When I was first diagnosed with Tinnitus a month ago, I was thoroughly confused. The audiologist who confirmed the hearing loss was of the " deal with it" school.I needed more than that.My greatest source of help has been the American Tinnitus Association (ATA.org) and this is a book produced by them.If you are experiencing this phenomenon or if you have someone in your family who is, this book is a terrific source of information. It is done in a question and answer format and I can almost assure you that any question you might have is covered in this book in some fashion or another. And the reader is never made to feel that they are stupid for asking "that" question. It was very helpful to me. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Reader beware #2
My mother and father read this book and it enflamed them against the doctors who were trying to convince my mother that she needed to do something about her Stage II breast cancer. She was scared to death by what she read.Perhaps literally. While she was scared, her cancer progressed to Stage IIIC.We're not sure she's going to make it.She received three opinions regarding recommended treatment from some of the best hospitals/doctors in the U.S.Then the cancer spread to her breast bone area. She is finally following doctors orders, including chemo, and her tumors are shrinking. We pray it is not too late.I'm sure this book has some useful information, but my mother only showed me the scary bits--the things that made her wait.Too long?Who knows.Beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars BOO!
This book will scare the bejesus out of ya, so make sure you're ready for the in-your-face reality this book offers. Are you ready to read about everything contributing to breast cancer from pesticides to plastic bottles? We're talking bug spray, plastic water bottles, beef, cow's milk + milk products, nail polish, polish remover, furniture, hair dryers, computers, and on and on.I was afraid to eat or touch anything for days! But the premise of this book isn't to scare but to educate you.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book every loving husband must buy
If you love your wife and if you want her to be "All that she can be", then you must read this book.It will tell you what's going on with her and more importantly, if you can get her to read it, then you will have a healthy wife instead of one that slowly falls apart.Easy to understand and wonderful ... Editorial Review

Talk about performing under pressure! New York City firefighter MichaelStefano describes wrestling with a 2.5-inch-thick high-pressure hose gushingwater at over 200 gallons per minute, raising and climbing heavy ladders, operating superpowerful saws, and rappelling down the sides of multistorybuildings--all while weighted down with bulky protective equipment, and oftenwhile soaking wet ("where there's fire, there's water"). Endurance, strength, and vigor are not only necessary for peak performance--they are lifesavers.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice for those starting out....
I picked up Mr. Stefano's book shortly after receiving a back injury which sidelined me for several months. As a result, I ended up gaining a few extra pounds which I was eager to be rid of.The book is 8 chapters in under 130 pages, so it's a quick read. The writing style is direct and to the point, and Mr. Stefano throws in stories from his firefighting career to keep things interesting and stress specific points he's trying to make.He addresses topics such as cardio vs. strength training, diet and caloric intake, specific exercises, and staying motivated. The book is directed at beginners, and he gives enough info to be useful, but not enough to overwhelm.I've been working out using the book's techniques for about 90 days now, and in that time I've lost 15 pounds and made noticeable gains in stamina and strength.I think 30 minutes a day is a little optimistic on his part, though. My workouts tend to last closer to an hour, but since I'm achieving measurable results, I don't think that's a bad thing. If you're willing to dedicate a little time and discipline though, you'll find this book to be a worthwhile purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost there
I recently purchased the book and should say that this is reasonable guide for a regular person - it describes very well all necessary components for keeping yourself fit. I find the book as good for both men and women; in fact, I gave it to my wife to read and she liked it. It is easy to read and is structured well. Being myself in athletics for 10 years up untill 15 years ago, I support the author in his approach that simply pumping muscles will not make you healthy, but requires a good plan and steady execution.
1-0 out of 5 stars Slow, too easy, too boring
This video is painfully boring and would not challenge even the newest beginner to exercise. To much boring blather between each series of exercises. Explains at length very simple moves yet demonstrates poor (some time dangerous) form and bad habits. If you are looking for a quick and efficient workout - or worse, a challenging one - run, don't walk, away from this one. I wish I could get my money back! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I was fortunate enough to be a student of Linda Swaynes @ UNC Charlotte. We were the first class to use this book. Not only was Ms. Swayne excellent at what she taught but the book was a tool that explained the theories in nice detail.I continue to use the book as a resource.I am currently a hospital CEO.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great balance of theory and practice
I used this text for a class in health care management. I was impressed by the readability of the text, the incredible amount of information it contained, and the great balance of theory with practical approaches. Many books about management are a bit short in the area of practical tools. This one gives you tools to work with. I used the outline of this book to do a strategic analysis of an organization with which I work. The only significant weakness of the book is the uneven quality of the case studies. These were contributed by outside authors. Some of these are terrific, others are not well written and not so helpful. Hope this gets corrected in the new edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for the Novice Planner
This comprehensive and yet easily understood text provides thefundamentals of strategic management as it applies to most any health careorganization. The authors' experience comes to life in a variety of realexamples and cases throughout the text. My background and interest instrategic planning led me to thoroughly examine the step-by-step processes, and I was amazed at both the simplicity and applicability of each. Definetly a text that I will recommend to anyone entering the healthcareindustry or strategic planning arenas. Not only was I benefited by thepurchase of this text, but had the opportunity to meet these outstandingauthors in person during graduate study/research. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Which one is the textbook?
I bought what I thought was going to be a used textbook, but what I got instead was a "student art notebook," a completely worthless collection of illustrations taken from the textbook proper. If the entry you find seems too cheap to be true (like $2) it is not going to be the text. Amazon needs to do a better job sorting and classifying their items, especially those from 3rd party sellers.
4-0 out of 5 stars A nicely illustrated, easy-to-read text
I'm not a student of this subject, but I have taken college courses in chemistry and one in biology.I think this book is an excellent introduction to the human body and it's functions, which is an incredibly fascinating subject. The authors provide an appropriate level of detail for an general, introductory texts. The narrative is supported by wonderful 3-D visuals as well as tables summarzing essential information. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
This book is okay. The written simulation portion gives you a descent idea of what the test will be like. The multiple choice questions are less practical in preperation for the exam. This book has a lot of questions focused on nutrition, which is not a large focus at all on the NATA-BOC.I would not recommend purchusing this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars save your money
Please save your money and don't purchase this review book. After doing several of the practice questions I began to realize that many of the answers in the answer guide were wrong. Some of the answers also blatantly contradicted themselves.I called the publisher to bring this to their attention and they did nothing about it.How can a person study for this caliber exam when the study material is not accurate?Don't buy this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Great, not bad
This book is great for the CD-ROM that comes with it to study for the Written portion of the Exam. On the other hand I don't think it does a very good job explaining the Practical, it may be out of date because they changed the format a little. The practice test for the Written Sim is to easy compared to the real one that you will take. Overall it is O.K., but maybe out of date even though it is only a few years old. ... Read more
