Great study guide!
I just passed my recert boards again and thanks to this study guide didn't need to take an expensive and time consuming review course.Well worth it!!

PANCE Prep
Great study guide.Accompanying CD very user friendly.Entire book with questions and explanations are on the CD.Easy way to go through and review each specialty area and read the explanations for the answers.Few typos though.Best to go through the references to double check on a few answers.Overall very good study guide.

Worth the purchase
I found this book to be very helpful.Yes there is some incorrect info as stated by other reviewers but overall it serves as a good guide.I found the best way to study for the test is to do practice, practice, and more practice questions.Reviewing the AAPA review book was somewhat helpful but applying what I reviewed was what made the info stick.

Very helpful guide.
I found this book very helpful.It started by going through the PA profession, and then got into how to actually go about making this a career.It explains each step of the application process, and gives very helpful tips.Overall, this was a great book.I would highly recommend it for anyone considering entering the PA profession.

Good but outdated
I found the information about interviewing helpful but much of the information about the application itself was outdated.The book was written before CASPA was widely used.Also, the author provides a personal website and encourages readers to contact him with any questions, but this website is no longer around.This book is a good cheap purchase, but no substitute for advice from current students.

This is THE book for any aspiring PA prospect!!
I purchased this book the summer of 2005 to begin my "preparations" for entry into the 2006 application cycle. I had aquired all of my prerequisites for the program I was interested in and wanted all of the ammunition I could get my hands on in preparation for the interview process. This book gave me perfect guidance in all aspects of the application process. And if I can do it, OH MY!, anyone can do it!! (If you only knew me ten years ago!) Although I do have a few years of medical experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist under my belt, I applied to only ONE school this year and I just received the call last week for the acceptance! My first go round and I couldn't have asked for more. As competetive as most medical programs are this book, I believe, gave me THE edge to succeed. I can't praise the book enough for all of the insights this book includes, From written preparations to speaking patterns and interview scenerios. Professor thought all wrong!
Although my professor thought most of the information in the textbook was wrong, it was a great guide to use both online and in class.Great illustrations!

Not Recommended
I bought this book for my Anatomy and Physiology 1 class in college. It was the required book for the class and the first semester we were using it. Upon going through we found numerous problems with information in the book. For example, there is an illustration of a reflex on page 419 and the foot is on backwards (according to the direction of the spinal cord). This is only one of many, many small problems with the book.

Volumes 1 and 2 are the gold standard texts for EEG students.They were written to take the beginning student with a high school diploma past the formidable R.EEGT. exam.Used book prices for both volumes are irrelevant.If you can acquire a copy of one or both volumes in any condition then you will possess a small fortune.

Great Book!
The book is great! Comes with review CD'S that you can use to improve your test scores. Very nice.

Medical Terminology
The book is in okay condition, however the cover was a little torn.It included both CD's which I use to suppliment the course.

There are better books out there.....
This book is a good introduction to medical terminology.It is not as comprehensive as some that are on the market, though.My edition did not come with a CD, but shows it as an optional tool.This book lacks a glossary and pronunciation of the medical terms.It does explain body processes in a way that makes it easy for the novice to understand, and that makes the book worth owning. ... Thorough basic coverage
I have always enjoyed BTLS.I am excited that the BTLS education committee decided to split their focus into Basic and Advanced.An EMT-B can use the Advanced book for further knowledge about what their EMT-P's are doing (but obviously not for their own practice!).Both editions are well laid out with excellent notations and case studies.Worth purchasing your own copy if texts are provided to you.

A & P book review
Book is in pretty good condition with slightly bent edges as is nearly every used book. The spin is not damaged and all of the pages are intact. Nothing is highlighted in the book.

Fantastic Book
I have to say, I used the 5th edition of this book and know that the 6th is better as I worked with another student who had the 6th edition.EVERYbody who wants to know, particulary physiology, should have this book for reference. The anatomy is also excellent particular the discussions on vascular and the venous / arterial systems and the nervous system discussions are clear!.I reference this book all the time.

Great for a basic book
This book is a great review of scalars, waveforms, etc.It does NOT cover physiology, but has great images and good legends for the figures. Small enough to fit in your pocket or slip into your bag -- much less bulky than a textbook.And cheap!

very small book

excellent resource for treatment options info
I bought another book that gave a thorough explanation about menopause and it's symptoms, but this book did an excellent job of covering the many treatment options available.The alternative treatments were covered in this book better than any other information I have read.In spite of all the menopause treatment web sites, books, & articles I have been reading for 2 years, I was not aware of the effects phytoestrogens have on women who have not had a hysterectomy.This is something more women need to be aware of!

Very Helpful
I found the Food and Excercise Diary very helpful in keeping track of what I eat and the exercise that I do. Handy size for carrying with you when going out to eat, that way you don't leave anything out.

I love it. it's small enough to take with you and you can chart your progress.You can keep track of cal.,fat,carbs,your weight,measurments and fluid intake. It also has a small food index of cal. and fat info in the back.

The Calorie King Rules
Ok, so he's wearing a crown on the cover of his book and has a penchant for corny cartoons, but Allan Borushek is the best diet buddy I've ever had. The Food and Exercise Diary is a great tool for providing insight into your habits, and structure to help change them. Tracking exercise calories burned and deducting them from your calorie totals is a good way to stay motivated. His Calorie Counter book is excellent, too. Why did I wait so long?? Excellent primer! A brief, concise Introduction to A&P!
Donald C. Rizzo has done an excellent job in making this book. If you never took A&P in college, and you want to learn the subject on your own for whatever reason, this is the book to start with, hands down. It does exactly what the title implies; it covers the fundamentals without a lot of wordiness, making the material easier to retain. My point: you definitely learn the subject, and fast! The book is so easy to read, its like a novel. I simply couldn't put it down. By following the mantra to independent study and learning (repetition, repetition, repetition), I believe I am as competent in the subject as anyone who took one year of A&P (as far as the fundamentals go), due to the fact that the text is straightforward, concise, and well written. I haven't found a recognizable mistake in the text yet. I also recommend buying the study guide, which helps retention.
Recommended Book
I appreciate how Donald Rizzo explains the assortment of topics in his book. At first I considered I would be turned off to all the information to learn.I found how he explained cephalad, caudal, medial and lateral with much clearness. The examples of how to use each one was uncomplicated to learn from.The Integumentary System and Nervous System chapters were complex to a degree.This subject is not as easy as intro to biology.This book ranks high in my mind.Other recommendations.....

A book you can learn a lot from!

Ignore the negative foolishness
Unfortunately, we have reached a point in time where some individuals desire to move to the next level without adequate preparation. I have observed this tendency in a number of the reviews covering various disciplines. You may be able to pilot a Piper Cub but this does not mean that you can pilot a DC-10.

excellent text! Dr. Dee does a great job at explaining the integration of the body's systems. easy to read text, though not overly simplified; wonderful flow charts & diagrams (these are what got me an A in the class seeing as how i'm a visual learner); "running problems" through out the chapters that test your knowledge along the way. i also highly recommend purchasing/using the accompanying CD-ROM-- very helpful.
