4-0 out of 5 stars MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY MADE EASY!
I just started taking a medical terminology class last month and I was sure that learning all of these new complicated words would be extremely difficult but the Medical Terminology (A Programmed Systems Approach) 8th Edition is so easy to follow and actually fun to do. I've found myself fascinated with the idea that one word can have so many different meanings behind it.The way the book is set-up it has sort of an elementary school appeal to it because you work in it frame by frame and instead of skipping from one term to the next the book is constantly re-introducing you to terms that you've learned in previous units and intermingling them with the new ones.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars too academic
This is an academic study, presented in a scholarly manner. While it is very good, it will only hold the interest of those who want to read scholarly jargon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Of critical importance to parents, policy makerers, and edu
Hart and Risley have created an easy to read volume that speaks readily to parents, policy makers and educators. This book is a must for anyone who truly wants to understand the relationship between the way we interact with children and the evolution of their intellectual development. If you are interested in poverty prevention, early literacy intervention or the impact of family based literacy on childrens' academic success, you will be inspired by the work of Hart Risley.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious implications for early child intervention efforts
This book is one of the by-products of one of the most dedicated efforts to understand variances in the development of language. One of the reviewers of the book states that the work "...is a detective story of the most serious academic kind."Yet the book is written in a manner that would allow it to be required reading for "Parenting 102" if not "Parenting 101".The implications for parenting and public policy are profound ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Incomparable
You've got to have a Netter's Atlas on hand. You never know when you'll need it.Even if you are well out of medical school, well cocooned in your tight little sub-specialty, you still need Netter. You never know when your elderly neighbor is going to knock on your door and ask you precisely which muscle in her back hurts when she stands up, just to pick a random example.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can you imagine that the pictures drawn by Netter are far much clearer than what we saw during dissections?
I remembered that when we did dissections in the anatomy class throughout the anatomy classes of the 1st 2 years, one student per table (who do not want to touch the corpse) would be responsible to bring and hold the Netter for the entire lesson. Netter really helped us a lot! I have browsed many other anatomy atlas and have not yet found one that is better than Netter. Although some atlases contain real pictures, they are not as clear as that in Netter! I can say, "Netter + Moore" is the golden combination for anatomy!
5-0 out of 5 stars Visual Learner
If "a picture could say a thousand words", this book is it.I am an LPN turned Medical Coder. The book has made Anatomy `come alive'.I struggled through 2 anatomy/physiology classes in the above 2 programs & still did not feel like I understood. If you are a visual learner, this book is a must.It does have to be supplemented with written text as others have said, I use a google search when my textbooks are not enough. To determine if this book would be helpful, think of it like this, if you put together a big entertainment center, which would you find more helpful: diagrams of where each screw, nut & bolt gets attached to what piece, OR by reading a description of each piece & the description of the piece it gets attached to.For me its diagrams, so the book for me was well worth the cost ($69 + tax at Barnes & Noble, 3rd edition, soft cover). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and useful!
It is the one of the best. It is more used for general fitness than serious weight lifter. Usually, it takes a few months to notice result in weight training, as such, it is important to keep a training log. For convenient and substainable motivation, I have used my mobile phone as a log from [...] in the gym.
4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand.
What do you do when you've just been hired by a client who hasn't exercised in 26 years, or someone who has just been cleared by their docotor to workout? Well, the knowledge that I have is helpful, but sometimes you need to have the basic knowledge laid infront of you....and you kind of pick up whats really important.
3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better
I have started going to gym recently. Some questions always bothered me- should I go for fat burning/ cardio? What does target heart rate mean? Should I start lifting the weights or concentrate on running/walking? What should I do to avoid soar muscles the next day? I see different equipments here, which one corresponds to which muscle building? Why strecthing/cool down procedure is important? and list goes on. This book has answered most of the my questions in a simple informative way than any other book I found at borders book store. But the book is certainly not a complete one. For example, the streching exercises given mainly concentrate on upper body. IMHO, the streching exercises are not very elegant for a people in thier mid 20s. I felt that the book could have avoided certain supplementary details. For instance, I dont see why author should talk SO much about the forms ecto, endo & meso. Overall, the shallowness of issues is fine from a beginners point of view but the breadth of the topics to be covered could have been greater. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Learning to Live w/ Hypo
If any of you were the same as me you learned out that you had hypo and the doctor said it's a lot like diabetes so go get a diabetes book and follow the diet. I think the medical field is ill informed about hypo and could take a good lesson from this book. Hypo is a complicated disorder and until you know a lot about it it is hard to control. Hypo for Dummies gives you that knowledge you need. Keep in mind that the writers are practicing eastern medicine physicians, so some things they offer a regular physician of western medicine might not.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hypoglycemia Information From A Non-Diabetic Perspective
After much searching for a book that would focus in on hypoglycemia, I found Chow & Chow's book.Normally, I'm not big on the dummies series however, this particular book covers a wide range of information from diagnosis (and confirmation that you're not crazy) to helpful ways to "help" yourself combat the ups and downs of the rollercoaster ride.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner book!
I read this book as a refresher and cannot imagine a more in-depth explanation of hypoglycemia and how to deal with it--emotionally and physically for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY TO UNDERSTAND
A necessary foundation to begin the process of learning about prostrate cancer, what to ask when going to the doctor, and help in deciding which treatment is best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely thorough, easy to read
My wife and I found this book to be extremely user-friendly. My doctor suggested this book before I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and it helped us understand the entire diagnosis process. It is completely up-to-date, including nutritional discussions, and it was the best resource we found that discusses all of our treatment options objectively. It was by far the easiest to use and understand compared to some of the other books available--it wasn't preachy and it didn't talk down to the reader. This book has become a well-worn companion of ours and we highly recommend it to anyone that has questions or concerns about their prostate health in general.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite on this topic
Contrary to other readers, I didn't appreciate this book quite as much as Prostrate Cancer for Dummies. Some of the advice was in conflict with other sources, and I was really concerned with the section that suggested it was kosher to return to the diagnosing urologist for the surgery.Skill and experience are critical for this surgery - I think you should find the best (and forget about professional courtesy).I also felt like the author tended to be arrogant with his opinions.Just my opinion, but I wish I had gotten Walsh's book which I've seen recommended on multiple support sites.I am very happy, though, with the Prostate Cancer for Dummies book which I found to be upbeat and easy to understand. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Refer to this Book Frequently
This comprehensive multi-authored text contains over 450 pages of highly specific and well-documented information that will be interest to physicians in private practice, academics, and in medical management. The previous edition has been updated and significantly expanded.
2-0 out of 5 stars A Decent Introduction
Based on the other reviews, I was expecting a lot from this book but was disappointed after finishing it. The book's collection of papers provides a good introduction to the general concepts found in other books, but I found that it lacks many of the specific implementation details and calculations that I have seen elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Guide for Medical Practice Profitability
In the past, only major practices and hospitals could afford expensive management consulting and technology offered by the big accounting firms. Dr. Marcinko's book extends high-quality advice equally well to both large and small doctor practices. Together with a new generation of billing companies, e.g., Affinity Billing or Billing Precision, that leverage new technologies, his book is an indispensable tool for today's smaller practices.

5-0 out of 5 stars Presicion through simplicity
As an individual unfamiliar with the nuances of AS, I found "My Social Stories Book" particularly effective in identifying, conveying and demystifying what is mundane for most people, but what can be overwhelming for those with AS.Sean McAndrew's brilliant translation of the text via child-friendly illustrations relevant to their respective scenarios are what make a publication like this one truly work.Much like crosswalk symbols, these illustrations must be absolutely simplistic in order to be unmistakeably understood. Much respect to McAndrew who rendered the abstract idea of divorce in such tender illustrative grace.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring and simplistic
I used this as one of the texts for an "ethics in medicine" class in undergrad, and was overall pretty disappointed in it.It is quite simplistic, and rather boring to read, but I've given it three stars because it does cover MOST of the bases/basics of professional ethics for someone working in healthcare. That being said, it's a text I've tried to reference since then for papers and assignments, and found it to be of almost no use whatsoever.Ok for a beginner or somebody looking for an overview, but not one to come back to.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to read!
It really makes you think for yourself given different ethical situations which I think is great! But for beginning learners I think it should also include some helpful outcomes in some of the ethical dilemas..But overall good learning tool! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars book
This is an excellent book for Early Childhood Educators. The book iseasy to read and it covers before birth to 12 years of age. It has excellent resources.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful information
Although this book is a textbook I purchased it as a new parent for use as a guide to my daughter's development. While it does contain a great deal of useful information it doesn't go into significant detail about any particular phase of development but rather gives an overview of each stage, hitting the highlights. Nonetheless I would buy it again and think it was a good investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars general review
This book gives the basic expectations for the ages specified. The book breaks the developmental expectations down by age, and covers most developmental expectations such as physical and cognitive and social. This is a good beginners book or one to reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great learning experience!
The wonderful and numerous color pictures, the mass amount of info. I have been waiting for a textbook like this for years. My students have found the text very useful and important when studying for exams. This book has made my school maintain its high standard for its curriculum. My instructors have found it to be straightforward and unproblematic to teach from. I can't wait for more from Sandy Fritz! Wonderful I will recommend to all in the profession.

5-0 out of 5 stars I learned a lot
I am just finishing massage school and used this textbook. The way the information was explained and the learning activites helped so much. All the information about the sciences related to massage making the reading interesting. The chapters on muscles and biomechanices were especially interesting.Even if you have used a different anatomy and physiology text book I really suggest you get this one to understand how the information relates to massage
