Fungal ID
It is a well written, and illustrated book for the idenfication of fungi, however, the inclusion of plates for appearance on media and more direct photos would improve the publication (and no doubt increase the cost) otherwise it is a good book for the identication of fungi in the laboratory that processes some fungi, as an offshoot to the microbiology department, a mycology department would include this in its library but would include other texts, and resources. In summary good at uni good on the bench, but would need suplementation in a pure mycology department.

It�s a good book for fungi identification
I have had very satisfactory experiences in the use of this book as a guide for the identification of Food Fungi, even though outside written forFungi of Medical Importance. It displays a very particular approach thatmakes extremely didactic, mainly for the novices in the subject or thatthey do not make fungi identification of routine. It presents first aclassification of the fungi based on the color of the colony and thecharacteristic formation of conidias of the fungi genera. In one secondpart of the book it makes a more detailed description of each one of theconsidered generas. Phlebotomy Handbook: Blood Collection Essentials
The book seems very up-to-date and will be a helpful study guide for my staff. The questions/tests and CD are a plus.

good book for phelbotomy students
I think this is a pretty good book for phelbotomy students.The book goes into great depth about various blood tests and the equipment used.The language used was simple enough for laypersons to understand.This book also prepares you for the National exam.

I am not a medical professional, terrific book!
As a layperson who wants to help people type thier blood with home blood typing kits, but be responsible about disposal, this books is a gem of information. The surprise for me is how much marvelous information is contaianed beyond responsible bloodletting. This book contains some anatomy, and describes the body systems. I would like to take a course on this subject, but they are available only to students of nursing, etc. With free shipping, and Amazon.com convenience and availibility, you can't beat this book! ... A Must Have for MT student
This book is the Golden standard for Clinical Chemistry. I can tell you most of your laboratory procedures have at least some part derived from this book. Not to mention all the product insert for most of your clinical chem. I agree that this book will be quite overwhleming to first time reader during their training; but this is a indespensible book you need if you want to specialize in the Clinical Chemistry area. And obviously you find this book so precious that you won't sell it :)

One of the best
This is definitively one of the best Clinical Chemistry books I know. At work I routinely need to consult information and this makes a great reference book to search for in depth explanations. Now, I don't feel this would be good for a student, I feel this book is a little dense and treats some issues in such a way that might be a little intricate for the first contact with them. I believe you need some practical work experience to really take all the juice out of it, though I don't mean I'm not recommending it to students. This is a great book to anyone, the only thing is I don't concieve it as a texbook (for this I'll better recommend Kaplan & Pesce "Clinical Chemistry", which is an easier reading while not compromising much depth).

Nice Practical Book
I purchased this particular book for an on-line program and not because it even vaguely seemed attractive much less "Effective".To my delight the book has made some excellent strong points and is very practical.I really can't say too much "cons" about the book.If you need a book for a Management program, whether online or conventional class room or even for short courses and seminars...it works great.Easy, simple reading.

Essentials of Diagnostic Microbiology
I am a medical labortory technition student.We use this as one of our primary microbiolgy textbook. After spending a couple of weeks with it, out teacher dug last years book out of the boxes.This book is full of errors, typos, and generaly hard to keep stuff straight.It sometimes seems that it was never proofread.Its full of good info, but I wonder how much is correct.I have bought 2 other books on my own for the class that I (and the teacher) rely on to verify the info in this book.If you can find this book cheap, buy it.Don't waste any money on full price. ... Most useful Handbook!
This is a usefulhandbook for ward physicians and panel doctors (GP).
Technical and very complete
I waited quite some time in anticipation of this book. In fact, shipping was delayed by nearly a month.I am reluctant to admit it, but I found it terribly technical.That is the reason I am writing this review.It is quite thorough but more than I expected or needed.Additionally, I was so glad to finally receive it that I mindlessly wrote my name on it without thinking about returning it for something more suitable to my needs.I just hope that someone else can avoid my mistake by reading this review.

Great book but missing one very important thing?!?!?!?
This is a great learning tool for the beginning transcriptionist. It is easy to read and flows well. I am very excited about the learning opportunity it provides. There is only one very large problem. You need the CD-ROM that should come with the book. This version does not include the CR-ROM. The ISBN # for the same book with the CD included is 0 13 018735 6 and you will have to special order it from Amazon. If you don't you will have to order the CD seperately. That is if you can find it (I tried with no luck) and it is not cheap. The book with the CD included is much more cost effective. I hope this information helps. ... Read more

Excellent Book
This book is excellent for beginners and advanced microscopists. It offers fine details and tricks about techniques as well as the theory behind it. There are lots of pictures and schematics for each descriptions. It is also useful for microscopist that want to learn more about different methods. I definitively recommend it!

Excellent EM primer
I actually had the opportunity to receive instruction from Prof. Bozzola in both Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and acquired the book for those reasons.It is not common to find even a textbook with such well-detailed instructions from beginning level to advanced for a myriad of topics in the field.Of course, there is a very significant focus on biological applications, so some portions of the book are not entirely relevant to materials science folks like myself.This book covers the basics of optics, sample preparation, imaging, photography and film developing, and specifics about both TEMs and SEMs.This book is a very good investment for anyone intending to perform work with such instruments.

Great reference book!
When I first saw this book I got scared because of the size and weight ofit, but when I finally got the courage to open it and start reading it, itsurprised me!I found this book to be really good and the pictures aregreat and help out a lot.The case studies at the end of each chapter arereally great and got me to understand more and think about the content ofthe chapter, which by doing that helped me to remember!!Also the lastpart of the book: Laboratory methods, was a great help to me both inpreparing for class and when it came to writing the report, the book tellsyou step by step how the procedures are done.I will always keep this bookfor reference as I know it will help in during my career as a labtechnongist. ... I purchased this book mainly for the CD test. Too bad for me that nowhere in the reviews does it mention that it can't be used in a Mac! I don't really care for the format of the questions, either - I've purchased much better review guides; especially the CLS Review by Harr (of course, you can't use it's floppy in a Mac, either - that's why I wasted my money on another book) ...
