Guide is top notch with helpful tips--a best buy
This guide was a great find--I think someone on one of AOTA's list serves suggested it. It would be excellent for a fieldwork student as well as a more experienced therapist. Understanding physiologic function
I am a music therapist specializing in work with Autistic and other diagnosed children. I have just completed a book titled: Sensory Integration: Theory and Practice
This was one of the few books available at the time my son was diagonosed with SI. The book was invaluable to me at the time. Understand the book is a theory and practice text, and is not written with the layman in mind.However, I did gain more insight into SI with the book. It helped meunderstand a lot of the reasons behind my son's behaviors. It also helpedme better understand the need for the therapy he was receiving, and whythings affected him the way they did. I would recommend this book to otherparents who are as perplexed as I was. It helps with a few more pieces ofthe puzzle.

Good for reference
From an Indian context, I don't think it necessary for a student to byheart Ganong in the first year. For an average student it can be disastrous to rely on Ganong for the university exams as time is very limited and it is not usually possible to study and recall all that is given in this exhaustive textbook. But for those who are really hardworking and keen to hit the jackpot in the very first attempt in the PG entrance tests, it is a must read. This is an excellent reference book. I think that the authors could have tried to simplify the language used for the sake of international audience and for a more pleasurable read.

Excellent review of everything that should be learned in pre-clinical years
One of the most bizarre elements of medical school is that no medical school curriculum teaches all the necessary information for Step 1 of the Boards. All students are going to have to learn additional information in order to be prepared. Beyond the requirement to assimilate new information, discovering sources for this additional studying can be time consuming and frustrating.
Excellet physiology book.
I use this book for my physiology course in the school of medicine and a think that it's an great reference. The chapters are short and easy to read. The book is very up-date and have much information, considering the size of the book. It's good for the exams, because have much information in a few pages it's like a resume, but very complete. Useful summary
This book is a useful brief review and compendium of diagnostic neurological information. The paperback version is small enough to carry around or put in a briefcase. The book packs a considerable amount of information into about 400 pages. There are a couple of dozen chapters, organized according to the usual neurological disease categories, and there are a number of nicely done charts and tables that make good, quick references. Keep in mind this book is not intended to be exhaustive and is meant as a quick review or reference. It is intended for practicing physicians, so familiarity with the technical and medical terminology is assumed, and most technical terms are not explained. The book benefits from recent research, and contains up-to-date information on such rapidly changing areas as Alzheimer's. Comprehensive Resource for Peds OT
While I agree with the previous reviewer that the book is slow reading, I have many positive things to say about it as well.The book has a plethora of resources for students and practitioners alike, including readings, websites, etc. to augment eval/tx or to further explore a topic.Also, the fact that it's a brand-new edition means that everything is evidence-based and backed up by the latest research, meaning that what you read is best-practice.The book is also very comprehensive and covers all the "traditional" areas of OT plus new burgeoning areas of practice.

Not the easiest reading for a textbook.
This is a very informative book and I will probably use it as a strong reference in years to come.It is not, however, a very easily read textbook.Some areas are repetative and make for very slow reading.Many times the author backs up her explanations citing studies. very self-explanatory and handy
During my first semester as a PTA student, this book was a life-saver! It is very thorough on how to do each muscle test and has wonderful pictures and tables for studying muscle origins, insertions, and innervations for future knowledge. You don't want to miss having such a handy study guide!

All around great OT review book
This book covers almost every diagnosis that is studied in occupational therapy. The topics review the most important aspects but still give enough detail so that you are not left wondering what else you needed to know.

Wonderful Spiritually Juicy Book!
This book is an inspiration!On every page, in every section there is something to draw on to expand one's spiritual and artistic expression.The mandala information is very good.The pocket shrines are also wonderful to make with or for children.They really respond to them.I was encouraged, uplifted, and inspired to create more art, and as a result learned more about me in 40 days, than I have in 10 years.If there was one art/spirituality book (that wasn't a single technique) that everyone needs for their bookshelf...it is this one.Don't miss it!

Really great!
This is a great book for tapping into that inner voice, taking some time to be quiet with ourselves and just plain have some artsy-craftsy fun.The book sarts with some intro chapters that provide short stories/examples of the healing power of art through the ages - from Buddah to present day folks. From there it talks about "being mindful"- here there's discussion of drawing things from your dreams, using your imagination, etc.I love the section that talks about the difference between "curing" (where you remove all evidence of the disease) and "healing" (a more spiritual transformation of repairing and connecting, gaining a peace.) Again, there are lots of stories andexamples within the text which makes it interesting reading.The next few chapters go into getting in touch with your soul's palette - rediscovering what you see as "art", remembering your own personal history as an artist,paying attention to symbols.Next there's a whole chapter on different mediums to play around with (water color, clay, pen & ink, chalk, etc.Then she gets into playing around with art, being creative, letting ourselves free to create.There are short exercises throughout to help get you rolling and there are great discussions on things like howe to talk to your images/embrace them and create meaning around them.Then there's the healing aspect - one excerise is "paint or draw your emotional response to illness" another is "use color to sooth your symptom."There's also a section that talks about keeping a journal.Overall a really excellent book that I've enjoyed.Its fun, and there are so many interesting ideas/information woven in.Symbols have always been of interest to me and there's some interesting info on that in here too. beautifully written, best book on this topic to date
I have read all the books on art and health and this one surpasses all of them. The author writes beautifully and sensitively about art making and why it is helpful to one's well-being. The exercises suggested in this book are easy to do and have great results, for both the beginner as well as more advanced. While I loved No More Second Hand Art by London and Trust the Process by McNiff, this book is much more clear in its writing and message. Read more

A great practical guide for therapy dogs
Kris has provided us with great new insight and tips into our work with therapy dogs.The examples are wonderful - and in my mind one of the best parts is on her discussion of social proximity and how important it is to understand this in ALL of our visits.A job well done!!!A must read
