helpful, but needed more examples
I used book for my Yoga Teacher training course. Learning the larger muscles is easy, but the smaller more detailed, deeper muscles is diffucult. This book really illustrated these wonderfully!
great book
The pictures are really good, and the writing is quite clear. I am a graduate student in Movement Science, so am interested in the scientific aspects of movement. This book is an excellent bridge between the dancer/movement specialist and the biomechanics student.

Trigger point mania
I love this book I have had a chance to use it a lot in my practice. It has tons of great information, be prepared a long read it is a medical manual so to speak and it can be a little on the long side, but if your up for it, It is a fantastic asset...

Excellent text
I found the information quite thorough.It is written in a user-friendly way, easy to understand.I bought this book because it was listed as a reference for the chiropractic practice part 2 exam.This book helped me with the locations of the trigger points.Sometimes the chiro boards like to ask questions on trigger points.However, Leonardi's book: National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers and National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations are excellent for board exam preparation.These three books are needed for the part II and Part III of the boards.

The ultimate in drug-free pain relief!
As a Clinical Massage Therapist at a hospital, I use these books almost daily.In fact, I just ordered my second set. . . Best radiology book on the market, great for nat'l boards
I graduated chiropractic school this year.I used this book in school and found this it to be filled with lots of info on soft and hard tissue pathology.The radiographs are excellent in this book.Every condition from spinal bifida occulta to fibrous dysplasia is described with the utmost detail.Every chapter has a helpful summary that summarizes all the important points of each condition.I also used this book to help me study for Part II, III and IV of the National Boards.However, if you really want a great book to study for the national boards do what my study group and I did, get the following: Yochum & Rowe Essentials
An essential text for all chiropractic and medical students as well as practicing doctors.Useful write-ups on hundreds of conditions.Wonderful coverage of arthritides and tumors.Huge section on normals and a small section on positioning.The only place it's lacking is in chest and abdomen, and that's because it's a book on skeletal radiology.I couldn't do without it.

Excellent Rehab Book
This book is an excellent resource for any Certified Athletic Trainer, experienced or entry-level. Several rehab protocols are outlined for many common injuries seen in athletics as well as the general population. There is a general review of anatomy as well that proves helpful.

Let's learn all the facts.
I don't know, myself, exactly what I think of craniosacral therapy. But I've made a point of searching out the most sceptical material I could find on the subject, and I have read the ENTIRE BCC meta-study on it that was released a few years ago, not just Stephen Barett's opinions on it (which is all that some commenters have read, I think!) This "study of studies" was basically for the purposes of trying to decide if craniosacral therapy should be covered by third-party payers, and it reviewed all studies to date. It basically came up with three conclusions:
Controversial but not quite a quack science
Au contraire Mr. Deveno, everyone knows the cranial rhythmic impulse, like the pulse rate and blood pressure, varies from time to time and from person to person and from measurer to measurer. But this is an aside. A recent article in the respected Journal of Pediatrics, showed that osteopathic manipulation (which included CST) helped in cases of otitis media (i.e. ear infections). What makes CST controversial is the theory that the cranial sutures are being moved and that cerebrospinal fluid motion is being influenced. This is the theory behind CST. For all we know the working mechanism of CST could be completely different. Upledger's book is well written and gives practical advice on the treatment of patients, as well as the current working theory behind CST. He includes not only his variation of the vault maneuvers, but also the classical vault maneuvers developed by Sutherland.By the way it should be noted that Upledger taught CST at MSU-College of Osteopathic Medicine which is consistently ranked as a top 50 medical school by US News and World Report.

Why craniosacral therapy is a quack science ...
In various studies of craniosacral therapy, when multiple practioners are asked to determine the craniosacral pulse rate of a common set of patients they quite consistently fail to agree on rates. Amazing.
As I read this book, I get the "eureka!"-feeling at nearly every turn of page. It all seems so logical when Myers lays it out. This book has really sparked my interest for Structural Integration therapy and I am going to order all of the Anatomy Trains DVDs - the first three are already on the way. I can also heartily recommend Ida P. Rolf's books on Structural Integration - she's the originator and (or should that be "but") is easily understood, just like Myers.

Oschman did something quite exceptional in this book; he expressed my understanding of the way living things work, but went beyond my dark intuitive sense of the significance of the whole, to a crisp,intellectual, yet poetic, expression of the parts in relation to that whole

Exceptional compilation of research
I received this book from Amazon a few days ago and am halfway through it. I'm so impressed by Oschman's compilation of research - it's provided me with countless answers I've been seeking all my life. I am a degreed mechanical engineer, and am currently getting an advanced degree in Oriental Medicine. I've also been practicing Reiki and other energy healing modalities for several years, having been drawn into these alternative healing fields because of my natural ability for sensing subtle energies ever since I was little. Until I started reading Oschman's book I never had a scientific explanation for this energy or why it was so helpful in healing others. I've always known that these energies are real but I definitely appreciate a scientific explanation for any type of energy phenomenon - it makes it much easier to explain to others who haven't had similar experiences why and how they happen. I meet a lot of people who are interested in energy healing and some who are quite skeptical of its validity. Thanks to this book, I now have a clear way of explaining what I and countless others have known all along - that energy medicine really does work. If you're simply curious about why energy medicine works, or you're a practitioner yourself and have wanted a scientific way of explaining its validity to your friends and clients, you'll definitely appreciate this book (even with the $40 price tag). Excellent resource for working as a professional with children
I have been using this in my therapy practice and have found it very resourceful. It has wonderful suggestions for the therapist to untilize in assisting childrento express and resolve their issues when in situations they are unable to resolve through the expressions of words. all you need for the CSCS exam!
like kent_mc2 this is all you need for the CSCS exam. This and the Exam Content Descriptions. Do all the questions in each chapter and read the chapters that you are weak on and skim the chapters you feel strong in. Use the chapter questions to see if you need to go over the chapter again. This can be done in a few days if you have some kind of science or exercise science background or other PTtraining. Some of the basic sciences at the beginning can be a bit intimidating if you did not take basic sciences in college, but only a small percentage of the exam is basic sciences. I keep this book as a reference now.

Essentially the Essentials
The essentials is just what it states - it covers the essentials! It is not the last word on everything written for everyone. It is primarily a teaching reference. This is a reference that has the research and science behind it to back up the statements.

Very Informative
As a personal trainer, I am often faced with clients who have just finished rehabilitation in some form or another. This book allows me to understand the possible causes and implications of their concern being addressed. This is an excellent source describing the progressions and stages of rehabilitation. Detailed information and illustrations are included to cover post-operative, clinition (or machine) assisted motion, self induced motion, and maintenance.

Excellent Information
The book include many useful information, most of all, within the numerous schools of fitness testing and indicator, ACSM is still the most professional and reliable source.

Invaluable
This book by the American College of Sports Medicine is an invaluable resourse for anyone in the field of Exercise Physioloy or other related fitness fields. I use it on a regular basis as a quick reference guide for fitness testing and evaluation. This also a necessary book for anyone taking one of the ACSM certification tests. A great little review book
I really recommend buying this book. It's better than Mosby's Review, because it actually simplifies the concepts for you. I didn't get a feeling of being overwhelmed when I studied from this book. It's a good review for anatomy in general. It gives a great overview of each system, and I love that it went over contraindications for each disorder/disease too(very important). The only thing it is lacking would be information on Modalities. There just isn't enough. I got at least 4 or 5 questions(it may not seem like a lot, but it is, trust me) on Aromatherapy and essential oils (which ones do what, etc.) on my NCE, and if it weren't for my essential oil-addicted teacher in class, I wouldn't have had a clue about aromatherapy.
This is not needed for the TN test for NCBTMB
Nothing from this book is on the test. Yes it is a good book but if you are looking for a good study guide to take the test in TN please look elsewhere I know it has cost me another 225.00 to retake the test!

Disappointed.....
I purchased this book a few months ago, because of the reviews on Amazon. I used this study guide, made a few hundred flash cards and aced the review exams, but on the day I actually took the National Exam I failed. I was blown away by the difference between the type of questons asked on the exam vs. how I thought it was going to be from this review book. Yes, it was helpful to a degree, but I wouldn't bother purchasing save your money and spend it somewhere else. It is misleading.

Good reference, not quite what I expected
It was probably my fault for not giving the book 5 stars.I was expecting a book that would be a little easier to use in practice.This book does a really good job of giving various physical exam tests.It has lots of good pictures and other graphics.My two complaints, and what bumped this book down to a 4 instead of a 5, is that it is a little too "all over the place" with the exam.I would have preferred a book that helped me to focus.In that respect, Cooper's Pocket Guide and Hoppenfeld's physical exam book are much better.Also, I would have liked to have some treatment sections in this book.Still, all in all it's a good buy.

Best Orthopedic Exam Reference Textbook
This is the best orthopedic exam textbook I've found. It has good illustrations, is very inclusive in its content, and is well organized. You could think of it as a sort of illustrated orthopedic examination encyclopedia. It's a bit burdensome to read (and carry) because of its inclusiveness nature. So don't think you'll be carrying this one in your pocket for each exam. However, you'll be glad you have it on your shelf for reference. Great work Magee! This one is well worth purchasing. Especially if you are thinking of, or can afford, only buying one orthopedic examination reference. Lastly, don't expect treatment therapies from this book. It is purely diagnostic.
Good book, not the best
I thought this was an excellent exam book.I preferred Hoppenfeld's book, though there is less info.Of all the ones I've read, the best is still Pocket Guide to Musculoskeletal Diagnosis.I think Magee's is better for a reference.Pocket Guide to MSK Dx is better for daily use. ... Read more

Wonderful book
When I first obtained this book, I read it cover to cover to learn what they didn't teach me in massage school.I now keep it in my office and use it as a reference for helping my clients understand their health conditions.It is easy to understand and gives many alternative healing methods for conditions not discussed in other books.

Great Resource for National Certification exam
The pathology guide was concise and much needed in studying for the national certification exam for massage.By studying this book, I found out that there was some stuff I didn't learn in massage school but needed for the national exam. Who would have known?
Buyer Beware- incorrect information
All you have to do is look at the referances the author sited for this book to be scared by it- few and unreliable.Please note that there are sections in here that are absolutely incorrect. If you just want to pass National cert. this is a great book.But if you honor your proffession and wish to know pathology - not just what National Cert asks you (often incorrectly).... Every MT who wants to move beyond Swedish massage should read this
This was the book that convinced me that I could indeed so something more interesting with an LMT license than just "slapping bodies" at a spa. It opened my eyes to a whole range of new possibilities and confirmed ideas and approaches I had suspected but not articulated yet. Excellent articulation of intelligent, sophisticated and sensitive modes of touch and therapy.
