5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent summary of Chinese dietary therapy.
I recommend this book for all my patients. I keep a copy in my waiting room. Diet alone can often solve many health problems. Major topics covered include food allergies, candida and obesity. The author explains the meaning of Chinese medical terminology such as Liver Qi, Stomach Heat, and Kidney Yin deficiency with easy to understand metaphors.
5-0 out of 5 stars Food is life... truly
My journey into Chinese Medicine began with acupuncture.Soon I gravitated towards herbs and TCM in general. Now this book has introduced me to the importance of diet in medicine.Sadly, this aspect is atrociously neglected in western medical science.I had already started incorporating elements of diet therapy into my practice, with success.I then started looking for more instructional material on the subject. I purchased Bob Flaws' book and it has helped me learn new material and reinforce my own personal observations regarding diet. Not only do I heartily recommend this volume, I bought one for a patient of mine who is into organic farming!

I received my purchase very quickly and the book was new.I am very happy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading
I attribute much of what I do in practice to this book. The text is very readable and the information is presented clearly. If I were allowed only one book on acupuncture, this would be the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scrutable
My interest in oriental medicine is serious and long-standing, although I have not had the chance to study formally at an established school.Ancient texts are seldom available in translation and can be extremely difficult to understand when they are available. Many of the more modern texts are quite dogmatic.Like second-rate cookbooks, they may give varying results for the home cook.Shudo Denmei's book is a wonderful gateway. It gives a very understandable "big picture" view of acupuncture as it developed from its origins to the present time.It gives extremely practical ways for a student to begin both study and early clinical experience.Without translation from theory to actual practice, no such book is worth anything. This book is the most practical I have seen at making this transition to clinical experience possible. So, this is a wonderful place to begin. On the other hand, the author also outlines very clearly at least one respectable path to mastery of the higher complexities of acupuncture practice. The text can, then, guide a person through long stages of improving practice. There are other wonderful books (consider, as an example, Dr. Manaka's book), but I know of no other text that is nearly as helpful or as practical, particularly for a person like me.I have great desire, but I don't catch on easily. Thanks to the author.

4-0 out of 5 stars meridian therapy
Relevant, pragmatic, an excellent reference for clinical libraries, Introduction to Meridian Therapy is ideal for the beginner and experienced practitioner alike.Well rounded information on meridian therapy that is highly applicable to clinical practice combines with numerous charts and diagrams for easy reference. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular book for Part IV Boards
This is a great book for the Part IV chiropractic boards. The questions helped me to prepare for the type of questions on this exam. The questions in this study guide were of the type encountered on the boards.I would also highly recommend getting volume 1 because the x-ray portion is a big percentage on this exam. This book helped me to get ready for what would be asked in the patient history rooms and the adjustment rooms. Also, it showed me which orthopedic tests were heavily tested along with neuro packages. This is a must book, many of my chiropractic friends have used this book and also found it very helpful!I wouldn't go into the part 4 board without reviewing this book first. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Good Ambient sounds terrible voice and accent
I purchased this CD based on the other good reviews. I however could not relax due to the accent and voice of the hypnotheripist. I was amazed that a voice as grating as this one was used on this type of CD. For me it was a total waste of money. If you are sensitive to such issues I suggest you try a different CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Sleep I've had in years
I have had difficulty sleeping for about two years.I have used this CD for 10 days now and I have had wonderful sleep for each one of them.I listened to it for three nights straight.I didn't need it the fourth night. One night I did wake up and I used it to go back to sleep. I wish I had tried hypnosis sooner.
3-0 out of 5 stars It could have had 5 stars
There are two kinds of insomnia. The first is the one everyone knows about, which is trouble falling sleep. The second kind of insomnia is trouble staying asleep. This means waking in the night or waking up early.

1-0 out of 5 stars From the eyes OF a Lakota
I will try and refrain from being too harsh here, however...I feel this needs to be said from someone who actually knows something about these things.(I am Oglala Lakota) First off, if you want to know the TRUTH about Lakota spirituality, don't buy a book from some European out to make a quick buck. This book, as well as his others are filled with pieces from this and that, speculation and cliche' and has little to nothing to do with the truth. (The Lakota people do not, nor ever have had "Shamans") This type of book not only serves to perpetuate the disintigration of our sacred ways, but it also dishes out lies, misconceptions, and other non-truths. I highly suggest that this, and books like it, not be supported so that those who are truly searching, won't have to be loaded down with junk, before they find the true treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn About Yourself
I was first introduced to this book almost seven years ago.I was immediately intrigued by what I read, and ever since, I have had a vast respect and interest in Native American philosophy and teachings.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...
Mr. Meadows is known for his "Shamanic" genre writing, though this is the first book of his I have read.I wanted to explore some of the history of earth based spirituality, and with that expectation found this book very disappointing.Mr. Meadows paints incredibly huge strokes, covering thousands of years of spiritual life, shoe horning it into the Medicine Wheel, and doing so in the space of 90 pages. He makes statements that begin like Aristotlian proof theorems, and spin into grandiose New Age spiritual idealisms. His descriptions of what "Amerindians" (now I am really getting ill) believed or didn't believe no doubt has Native Americans everywhere rolling on the floor or in their graves.Meadows tries to do way too much and is ill equiped to handle his subject matter, both academically and poetically. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Holistic Care.... Brennan/Eckroate: a review
This comprehensive volume addresses dozens of concerns for the horse owner, covering traditional and alternative health practices. The book is very complete in covering the health care options in two sections. The first part dealing with health care is an overview of traditional and holistic options. The final section of the volume is a comprehensive listing (with photos) of typical horse ailments with specific recommendations for each one. The entire book is written in a style easily understandable by the novice, but not too simplistic for the experienced horse owner. Photos and very complete appendices round out the coverage for this topic. Additionally, Brennan includes a comprehensive horse management section which is equally impressive in its scope, covering topics such as diet, grooming, tack and trailering. This book is truly a "must have" for the concerned horse owner. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This book is excellent, which makes me wonder what the heck the last reviewer was thinking. This book doesn't have point location errors...I am a certified acupuncturist and I can assure you this book is not only accurate, but Bruce Pomeranz uses Western methods to validate the use of acupuncture in the mainstream. Many people don't like his "anatomical" method of relating the acu-points, but for Western trained health care professionals, it is much easier to integrate into practice, sell to patients and to explain using science than the traditional Chinese medicine.Let's face it, the Chinese knew what they were talking about 2000 years ago (or more!) but they explained it in a way that made sense to them.Well, we're a bit more scientific now and explaining the results we get with a bit of science may offend some, but it is progress because we are integrating old style wisdom with new understandings.

5-0 out of 5 stars too many errors; not enough substance
This book looks very professionally done, but the content is less than adequate. There are location mistakes on the diagrams, and the information on the individual points is too condensed for any real practical use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tics and Tourette's: Breakthrough Discoveries in Naturaltreatments
The book was very informative. After we followed some of the advices in the book, our child had been improving greatly.

5-0 out of 5 stars My review of Tics and Tourette's
Tics and Tourette's: Breakthrough Discoveries in Natural Treatments by author Sheila J. Rogers is a great book for anyone, especially people that have tics or knows someone that has tics. This book brings out that, "it is estimated that eighteen per cent of the children in the United States are affected by tics.
5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY!!
This book offers a such a practical approach to addressing tic disorders! While I do not suffer from tics or tourette's, I have friends and coworkers with children that do! I have also shared this book with some friends who are getting thier PHD in Neuropsychology! I think being your own "detective" is the key to trying to get better -- to use preventative medicine by identifying and then avoiding those triggers that can make your condition worse! The case studies are heartwarming and inspiring and I look forward to the day when alternative or non-drug approaches will be more widely recognized as healthy and effective options for not only tics and tourettes, but other disorders and ailments too! A must-read for adults with or parents of children with tics and Tourettes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the read!
If you're on this body assaulting drug, in need of cliche-comforting 'misery loves company', then this is the book to read. A quick, informative read, and one that leaves Prednisone users with hope for body normalcy once again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Barely informative and depressing for a long-term user
This book should be titled: Eugenia Zukerman's Coping with Prednisone.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Answers are Finally Available to Prednisone Patients!
This book helps to answer the questions regarding the emotional rollercoaster ride that longterm prednisone patients experience.Medicines are explained and contraindications as well as how to live with the side effects.Prednisone is a drug that is not kind to the body but sometimes necessary and worth the side effects when there is no other choice and this book explains why it is the drug of choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Amy
Amy has written yet another good book for pet owners. As the trend in natural healing continues, good resources such as this book, The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats, 8 Weeks to a Healthy Dog, and The Allergy Solution for Dogs serve as important sources of information for pet owners. Read this book and start learning how you can work with your doctor to keep your pet happy and healthy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saving my dog's life
A friend knew how my aging dog, Nina, was quite ill and that my family was not planning a second surgery, as she might not survive the operation and, besides, the mass on her liver had grown back in a year. She gave me a copy of this wonderful book, which gives options for health care.Impressed with the book, I ordered many copies and have given a copy to others who love their dogs and cats and want an option to drugs or surgery. Here it is!Nina's had extra time with her family and I have a new respect for natural healing, for pets and for people. You should buy several copies of "New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats", so you may share the love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put it Down.........
I am in the process of learning about holistic health care for my 2 lhasa apsos and have recently purchased a few books on the subject. I started one book and set it aside to finish later.I picked up "New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats" and couldn't put it down until I was finished!I was so impressed with the layout of such a large amount of information. This book is chock-full of great information and it is presented in a terrific format giving the read first the "The Signs" of the condition, then "The Cause" and the "The Solutions".The solutions can be numerous with the author offering different suggestions and not seeming to be biased towards any one particular holistic remedy.Directions are very clear, concise, and easily understood. Some choices mentioned are natural diet (which seems to be the first and obvious step towards better health care for an animal), natural supplements, herbal remedies, vitamins, aroma-therapy, magnet therapy, accupressure with diagrams shown, and of course, recommendations to call your vet to assist in dosage.Although you feel there is alot to learn, the information is broken down so well, it is easy to retain alot of what you read in the first go around with this book. I am sure I will be picking it up time and time again while working to get my dogs in the best possible health. Also included are some behavior problems.I guarantee you will learn some new and valuable information! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great
I, too, am deriving assistance in losing weight from this hypnosis CD. I find things I do automatically changing, even the kind of groceries I buy and the way I prepare food, too. Very worth the money. The reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is that his accent is hard to understand at times as he just mangles words, and I found it distracting that I had to kind of wonder what he had just said instead of being able to absorb the message he was trying to deliver. There are some words I just cannot get no matter how many times I listen to this CD. But it's an excellent tool, nevertheless. I would advise him to take elocution lessons, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glenn Harrold is AMAZING1
I was very skeptical at first but after listening to the CD the first time, I could see how it would help. His voice is extremely relaxing and without realizing it, you are in a state of very deep relaxation. He says that you will lose the temptation for "sickly sweet, fattening foods" and it's true. I have used the CD for approx. one month and was recently at a buffet dinner and had absolutely no interest in any of the desserts! This was definitely a first for me! I can't wait to buy more of Glenn Harrold's CD's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Was skeptical, but willing to try....
I think willing to try this is the key. I found it a little strange at first. But I listened to one session on CD (ther are 2) right before I went to sleep for about a week. I found myself actually making conscious decisions to select a glass of water instead of a candy bar at work when I started to feel tired. I had already realized that I was eating to relieve boredom and to keep awake. If you are willing and open to trying the suggestions, it may well work for you as it does for me. No miracles, mind you, just some help thinking about my choices and choosing slim and healthy as my goal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars worked for me
I admit, I did not take all the supplements and did not fully do the hot and cold showers part, but i did stick with the diet and the fasting. The fasting was hard especially the first day but it actually was a great experience, it is almost like a meditation, you are so concerned with hunger that you actually forget everyhting else in life.My skin improved significantly, acne cleared, and the bagginess under my eyese dissapeared.I did loose around 3 lbs in week, which was definitely a big plus. I had more energy but did not start until the middle of the program. I recommend this program and if you cant follow it all the way, at least stick with the diet and the fasting, since that is all I did and i still had great results.

1-0 out of 5 stars Expensive and not worth the effort
If you go on this week long starve your supplements alone are going to run you $100.Then you have to take 5 handfuls of pills every day.I think the author must have stock in the "Twin Lab" corporation because they are the only ones who carry some of the weirder things you have to take. Also, you have to go without food for 48 hours.Doesn't sound hard but if you have a family it is almost impossible. You also have to take cold/boiling showers and do something called "dry skin brushing".I tried it with an open mind and it did nothing for me.The friend who recommended the book tried it with the thought it was going to solve all her problems, and it helped a great deal.So why not skip the complicated starvation and stuff and just believe that you are going to be helped by something simple?

5-0 out of 5 stars Disease wake-up call!
As a naturopathic student I found the book riveting. Not only do theauthors open one's eyes to a whole new way of looking at disease, but theyalso make one aware of how toxic our lives truly are. The book is very wellwritten with a lot of scientific and medical information that also allowsthe reader to understand the way in which our bodies work. I would not sayit is a cure-all for everyone, even the authors don't lay claim to thattitle, but I would recommend this book to anyone who lives in an urbanenvironment and feels the strains of everyday life weighing heavily ontheir health. This book can just save you from that permanent "hungover" feeling every morning. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This is scientific medicine?
I recently viewed the new chapter concerning 'naturopathic philosophy' [in the 3rd edition, 2005] within this text at the University of Bridgeport's library, as there's a naturopathic school there that I attended. The chapter discusses the premises of 'the naturopathic.' Do you really want to be treated by a physician who conflates (blends) supernatural, nonscientific, scientifically discarded, idealistic, metaphysical, religious and scientific information -- and presents the whole thing as [supposedly] scientific?[a misrepresentation].Check out "The Epistemic Conflation of a School of Thought Claiming to be Scientific" and "Why I Dropped Out of Naturopathy School" - online per me, Rob Cullen.[THIS is future healthcare? I disagree, these prophets are truly 'facing backward']. I'm highly ethically disturbed by this text and naturopathy, still. I'll just make one point about this book's contention that complexity, self-regulation, and evolution [yes, evolution! with evolution the culmination of 'methodological naturalism,' which is HOW science approaches phenomena, that is: SCIENCE DOES NOT INVOKE THE SUPERNATURAL, it determines its contents based upon EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE, and exceptionally LEAN explanatory approaches {per parsimony:'do not multiply entities needlessly'; that is, if not ascribed by the evidence, IT ISN'T SCIENTIFIC}] indicate that life defies the laws of natural science -- particularly the second law of thermodynamics, per physics, in terms of life as supposedly being antientropic as indicated by life's evolving complexity [p.081-082] -- therefore justifying, particularly, vitalism and its handmaiden teleology-finalism [beliefs essential to 'the naturopathic'; explanations no longer within science at all; rejected-knowledge in terms of the scientific]. Ah, problem. The second law deals with closed systems and life's context is within an open system, in terms of thermodynamics. [For the compliance of the 'living' with thermodynamic law, see Atwater & Rosa's work in 1897 which specifically speaks in terms of the first law {the Kinesiology Dept. of Rice University has a nice web page on biological thermodynamics}; and see 'Biological Thermodynamics' ISBN 0521795494 {p.321 specifically speaks in terms of the second law}]. UB says NDs practice "scientific medicine" and naturopathy is "health science."Hmmm, what kind of [supposed] science text gets something so simple WRONG? Naturopathy is a 'self-labeled science-based' area that won't let go of what has not been considered scientific [the supernatural, the metaphysical, the idealistic, the scientifically-refuted and -discarded -- and kind; i.e., the tenets of their doctrines] for several decades PLUS.This text reflects naturopathic 'epistemic mislabeling nonsense' [e.g. naturopathy's vitalism ("life force"), spiritism ("personal spiritual development; body, mind, spirit"), teleology-finalism ("intelligent, purposeful") and 'whatever else idealism' AREN'T science-based (or even empirical phenomena, as in therefore 'not scienceable'). In reality, minimally, a mandatory, manipulable, spiritual, 'underlying' {metaphysical, supernatural, idealistic and what-not}, 'life force' {of many aliases} immediately responsible for states of health and disease is INSTEAD an ARTICLE OF FAITH {aka 'sectarian medicine'}].Hmmm: "the most thoroughly researched and carefully referenced text on natural medicine has been revised to include the most up-to-date information..." It has been a couple of months since I read that chapter, and I'm still, honestly, LAUGHING OUT LOUD. Naturopathy is, essentially, a 'supernatural science' (an oxymoron; particularly, vital-force-spirit, spiritism, and teleology-finalism as "science-based" are arrived at through a radical unlimiting of the boundaries of 'the scientific'); while evidence from science doesn't support the supernatural, the metaphysical, or the idealistic; and vitalism and spiritism, in terms of physiological agency, are refuted biological hypotheses.-rc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary
The third edition of the Textbook of Natural Medicine is an extraordinary accomplishment. This will be seen as the moment when natural medicine truly took its place at the forefront of modern healthcare.
1-0 out of 5 stars Lacks Credibility
Much like the naturopathy school founded by one of the authors, this book LOOKS slick, professional and science based. But, a closer look reveals a lack of any real substance.Far too much emphasis is put on questionable diagnoses.Though the treament sections looks to be well referenced, many of the studies cited don't support the author's assertions and others are outright irrelevant! Many of the disease monographs recommend a shoppingbag full of supplements--Polypharmacy at its worst.
