5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Ancient Wounds: The Renegade's Wisdom
This book was first loaned to me. I enjoyed it so much I purchased my own copy. It does a great job of explaining myofacial release and myofacial unwinding in layman's terms. I am recovering from a near fatal car crash and a physical therapist is using these techniques to help me recover physically and release the cellular trauma of the crash through unwinding. John Barnes is a dynamic person and the book held my interest through many anecdotal stories.

2-0 out of 5 stars Why pay for an overlong advert?
The book is interesting as a portrayal of the guy and the great work he does but lets be honest it is just one long advertorial.I also have my questions over the artist's choice of female, a rather young nubile woman, to accompany the glorifying images of Mr Barnes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do I say WOW now or later? - or both?
When I was first introduced to Myofascial Release (as taught by John Barnes), I had to know more.I talked my therapist into loaning me this book and read it in less than 24 hours.I was fascinated. As I read it, I knew I had to have a copy of the book for myself, so I ordered it from Amazon.I have read the book a total of 3 times now and find something new in it every time I read it.I also find that I can pick it up and open it to any page and find words that I need to hear at that moment.Recently I had the privilege of receiving treatment from the amazing therapists and John Barnes himself in his Sedona, AZ Myofascial Release (MFR) Treatment Center. It was an awesome experience. Before receiving MFR treatments from my local therapist, I couldn't do my grocery shopping on my feet.I was shopping for a wheelchair when I discovered Myofascial Release and have since climbed up into three mountains.Needless to say, this has changed my life! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect sight---your birthright!
'Relearning to See' is the largest and most comprehensive book ever written on the Bates Method of Natural Eyesight Improvement Re-Education. The author has taught Natural Eyesight Improvement and Teacher Training classes since 1983. He has recently relocated from San Francisco to the Natural Vision Center in Ashland, Oregon. RTS contains the pioneering work of ophthalmologist William H. Bates, MD. This educational program is *not* about eye exercises---a common misconception of the Bates Method. The most important contribution of RTS is that it concisely describes the 3 principles and 3 habits of natural vision. Yet each principle and habit is thoroughly explained, since all of them are necessary for normal, clear sight. RTS is a 521-page tome containing 60 color plates, over 150 illustrations and eye charts, (not a small booklet like most other books written on this topic), and contains information on how to improve nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia, strabismus (e.g. crossed-eye), amblyopia (lazy-eye), and many other vision problems. Even many serious eye problems have improved with this educational program. RTS covers reading, driving, using a computer, in nighttime vision, flying, light tolerance, artificial lighting and many other topics. Glasses are an artificial crutch, and contact lenses are foreign objects. Both tend to reinforce strained vision habits and make your eyesight worse. RTS educates you about lenses and prescriptions so you can go to your eye doctor and get legal, safe, reduced-power glasses while you are improving your eyesight. One of the most interesting and valuable chapters is called 'Brains and Vision,' where the author presents a larger perspective on the Bates Method using the modern right brain/left brain model. Bates stated that vision is primarily mental. The sections on left-brain myopes versus right-brain farsights are quite revealing. There are many mental and vision quality benefits to improving eyesight naturally, including memory, concentration, imagination, creativity, color perception, depth perception, contrast and texture awareness. While Dr. Bates did make some errors, his *solutions* of re-establishing correct vision habits are flawless---because they are created by nature. Read Chapter 1, Chapters 2-4 if you have been wearing glasses or contacts; then jump to Chapters 9+ and get started with natural vision principles and habits.
5-0 out of 5 stars Relearning to See:Improve Your Eyesight - Naturally!
Fantastic book! I have been wearing glasses since 1970, but since reading this book and practicing the principles explained within it, I doubt I will have to continue wearing glasses much longer. After only one month, I have noticed a definite improvement in my eyesight -- glasses which were once too weak for me are now almost too strong!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing non-allopathic approach to healing vision
I tried this for 9 days while on vacation and I was amazed by the results. All of the bad vision habits that Dr. William H. Bates discovered I had. After a few days practice, I was having "flashes" of perfect vision discussed in the book. I was seeing details like leaves on trees rather than a big amorphous blob of green.

1-0 out of 5 stars underwhelmed
I ordered what I thought was a full size intro to yoga book and got the pee wee version for elves. I had been breathlessly waiting for my full size edition to arrive in the mail because I was so excited to be starting yoga. As I held the pitifully small thing in my hand I got so depressed because it reminded me of some bad relationships i've had in the past--big promises and nothing to back it up with. I binged on a quart of dulce de leche ice cream and a dozen black bottom cupcakes to try to numb my pain. These evil satanic deceivers must be stopped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent TCM Source
This is an excellent book for TCM practitioners. It covers a wide variety of diagnostic techniques all included in one book (rather than having to buy 20 short books with similar info). From face diagnosis, to nail diagnosis, to in depth pattern recognition (for thin necks to swollen ears to stomach aches), Maciocia has included it all. I found the part about using palm lines to show tendencies towards certain types of diseases very interesting. There are colour plates in the back of the book that show examples of body type, tongues, and skin conditions.

Forward-thinking health theorists stress the need for our bodies to be less acidic.Civilization and laziness have led most of us to detrimental eating habits, one result being acidic bodies. If you want to test your acidity all you need is ph testing paper from the health food store.Test your urine. Then try to get more alkaline. It isn't easy.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Unwieldy in Every Sense, Needs Revision
I give this book three stars because I don't regret buying it, and I've used it frequently.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Foods are conveniently organized alphabetically, but portions are not clear so it's difficult to use when trying to track calories.Example, grapefruit shown by size (diameter) - would be more accurate and convenient if all foods were shown in ounces and if the portion preceded nutritional content on every line.

3-0 out of 5 stars Uniform measurements, please!
We have been using this book for about a decade, and appreciate that it does seem to include every morsel of food in a supermarket aisle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Digestive issues? Read on...
I thought this book was really helpful for those who are stuggling with their weight or have digestive issues but are unclear why.
2-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
I read this book, and found it to pretty much be a rehash of ideas and theories that have been around the internet and "hypochondriac" community for a while (I say hypochondriac community because that's how most doctors treat us and we're left to go find our own solutions).
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, useful reference
The book recaps material from other authors, such as Sherry Rogers, M.D. and other experts, in a handy and straight forward way. Having read numerous more complicated books while struggling with fatigue and brain fog, this one was a breath of fresh air (pun intended). 5-0 out of 5 stars It is what it says
I've studied hypnosis with Stepp, Bandler, and Dobson and read just about every book by Bateson, Haley, Watzlawick,Zeig, Hilgard,Rossi, and Weitzenhoffer as well as the collected works of Milton Erickson....I wish I had found this book early on. It's a great foundation book that everyone who studies and uses hypnosis as a tool should have in their library. Yapko is obviously influenced by the Erickson approach to hypnosis but this doesn't prevent him from providing the alternatives and how they might be appropriately used depending on how the client presents. If you are new to hypnosis YOU NEED TO BUY THIS BOOK.
5-0 out of 5 stars A sweeping, accessible overview of the hypnotic process.
Rick Voit, Ph.D. Co-author: Hypnosis in Clinical Practice: Steps for Mastering Hypnotherapy. (Routledge)
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro text for Hypnosis study
This book is a great text to use for learning about hypnosis or to teach hypnosis to students. It is thorough, covering every significant issue that a typical hypnosis practitioner would deal with, and it presents a careful, balanced examination of many issues that are often misrepresented by either proponents or critics of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The current edition (3rd) seems very well organized and conceptualized, and is pretty well updated about neuroscience correlates of hypnotic states.Yapko clearly wishes to make hypnosis a well-respected healing practice, and attempts to present hypnosis in a well-developed context that allows readers to see the many potential benefits of using hypnotic techniques as well as the possible hazards of misrepresenting or misapplying hypnosis. This is a well-researched, comprehensive, and well-rounded presentation of hypnosis which should serve many hypnosis practitioners well.It is hard to find a book on hypnosis of this quality, with most books on the topic focusing more on techniques and exalting the power of hypnosis than on addressing the many professional issues and contexts that practitioners will have to work with. The only significant fault in this book I can point out is the title, as Yapko proceeds to explain why he is not happy with the word "trance" as a descriptor for states of consciousness appearing during hypnosis.Perhaps he will decide on a new title the next time this text is updated.Meanwhile, Trancework is a book that sets a high standard for Hypnosis texts. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Voluminous (only slightly flawed) Mainstay
This book got short shrift in our education even though we bought in in the first year or two.4-0 out of 5 stars Still a worthwhile reference
When I was in college, we learned the ill-fated Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion for exams, but this was the book we actually used in acupuncture classes. We called it the "Shanghai book," as it is an abridged translation of a four-volume set, originally published in Chinese in 1962 by the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, revised in 1974. Since most of our teachers were from Shanghai, this book was the favorite for teaching English-speaking students.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I was impressed!
While this book only deals with a limited number of herbs (and one fungus!) the techniques Mr. Green describes are easily adapted to almost any plant. I was expecting mostly a book of recipes for various oils, balms, creams and so forth, but there are surprisingly few of those, usually only 2 or 3 per chapter. Instead, the author describes the method for making the desired concoction, lists suggestions for which herbs work particularly well in the given medium, and leaves the reader to decide what will suit his or her needs. Mr. Green has a great sense of humor, and applies it liberally throughout his work. What could have been a dry book is actually a fun and interesting (and informative) read.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!
This is book on health, but it is written like a story book--filled with cases of hope and healing. It covers all aspects of altenative medicine, from nutrition to mind body medicine. I simply loved it and recommend it highly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Healing yourself
Last year after`experiencing extreme pain in back, shoulder, and arm muscles, I puchased Spontaneous Healing, Healthy Aging, and Natural Health Natural Medicine.I wanted to discontinue the use of the drugs I was using to control the pain. I intended to heal instead. Spontaneous Healing gave me information about foods, vitamins, and supplements that enhanced the body naturally. Dr. Weil gives advice on avoiding toxins and reducing stress.I highly recommend this book and his others for natural methods that people can use to change their life-syles, manage illness, and alleviate stress to increase healing potential.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring stories, but lots of redundancy with his other work
Everyone knows who Andrew Weil is and he has certainly made a splash in the area of integrative medicine. As a Harvard trained physician, he has added enormous credibility to alternative treatments. This is a major contribution to the field of healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pain and Hypnosis
Although there are many books on hypnosis and to a certain degree a rather long list of works on scripts for hypnotherapy, there are few good works on pain scripts. I was therefore surprised to discover Dr. Marlene E. Hunter, M.D. book entitled "Creative Scripts for Hypnotherapy."
5-0 out of 5 stars A rare jewel of a book for clinicians and other therapists
Using a wonderful array of metaphors the author outlines various strategies and mechanisms that physicians and other therapists might use to assist patients towards resolving or coping with a wide range of both physical and psychological suffering. The concept that all symptoms are psychosomatic was certainly an insight for me that has contributed enourmously to improving my own communication with patients both in and out of hypnosis. This highly practical guide effectively allows the therapist to adapt the scripts to an enourmous variety of situations.I have found the section on phobias and fears particularly helpful in treating the common needle phobia encountered in my own hospital practice.
