5-0 out of 5 stars Succinct, concise, surprisingly thorough explanation of the evidence
Natural Hormone Replacement is a succinct, concise, surprisingly thorough explanation of the evidence supporting bioidentical female hormone replacement.Lengthier treatments of this topic devote more discussion to inadequately designed, overpublicized studies, including theWomens Health Initiative and US Nurses Health Study. Jonathan Wright focuses primarily on better designed studies, which received less publicity in over sensationalized media coverage. The discussion of estriol / estradiol plus estrone ratio and breast cancer rates is especially informative. Surprisingly, etiocholanolone testing is discussed in this unexpectedly thorough book. Increased cancer rates occurring with progesterone deficiency are clearly explained. Wright provides a rational analysis and overview of the relative risk of underemphasized cardiovascular mortality compared to overemphasized breast cancer risk.Wright has written magazine articles for years and his ability to clearly explain large amounts of information and research concisely are refreshing. We have seen bioidentical estradiol, progesterone, DHEA and testosterone replacement treat severe depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia and migraine pain, at Florida Detox.Hormone replacement works much faster, than antidepressant therapy and can be used with patients who have adverse reactions, to almost every non-bioidentical pharmaceutical.
4-0 out of 5 stars The small cost of and limited time required to read this book is well worth it!
Read this book. It will get you long on knowledge you really should know in short order. A HUGE misunderstanding has been created (on purpose, by the major pharmaceutical companies, or through the unfortunate ignorance of medical professionals) about synthetic, altered, equine, patented, profitable hormone replacement therapy (HRT) vs. Bio-Identical HRT. Everybody should know the difference and how it can affect their health.

1-0 out of 5 stars Watch out...
Bio-identical hormones are not all they are cracked up to be. They have serious, dangerous impacts on the human body. Please, if you are going to try these, do your homework first. A growing number of women are experiencing lethal side effects. Some don't make it out the other side. I am one of the lucky ones - I survived the blood clots in my legs and two near-fatal, year-long illnesses connected with use of "natural" progesterone. Since that time, I have been contacted by scores of women who have suffered due to use of these hormones. I hope this information will be helpful to someone else, too. Please, safeguard your health - no one else is going to do it for you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An important reference for Chinese women's medicine
While it necessarily falls short of its encyclopedic vision, Maciocia's latest will become an important reference, not only for those emphasizing women's medicine, but for anyone studying Chinese medicine theory. Sinceone cannot expect to present more than an overview of the breadth and depthof this speciality, the book's few shortcomings can easily beforgiven.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite in the series! You've gotta check it out!
Another perfect title by Kristin Billerbeck, Calm, Cool & Adjusted sums up Poppy Clayton's life better than any title I could have come up with! Poppy lives for serenity and calmness, or as she calls it, energy. She could care less about looking cool, but that's not the kind of cool the author means. Poppy finds that special cool after thawing out, and I loved the character arc! It's what I live to read!
4-0 out of 5 stars terrific Spa Girls tale
Dr. Poppy Clayton is happy for her Spa Girls pals, but sad for herself. She is euphoric that Morgan (see A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND) and Lily (see SHE'S ALL THAT) have found their soulmates; both also are becoming mothers with the former to her fiancé's son and the latter being pregnant.Poppy is a bit down because she is left behind single with no loving mate in sight.
4-0 out of 5 stars CHISTIAN CHICK LIT
This is the third book in Billerbeck's "Spa Girls" series.Poppy's story is the one depicted in this novel.I loved the first two books in this series, so it was just natural for me to pick this one up as well.I can't say I loved it as much as Lilly or Morgan's stories, but nevertheless it was a good read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing
Anyone reading the title of this book might justifiably assume it was going to deal with the type of energy manifested in Qi Gong, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), acupuncture, Quantum-Touch and many other energy therapies - subtle energy it is often called.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Mind-Boggling New Scientific Understanding
James Oschman has done it, he's presenting us with the rare gift of abreakthrough understanding of the human condition that includes a profound new theory of the mechanisms of life, one with critically important clinical implications. In prose that reads like a good adventure story he presents with great clarity, comprehensiveness, and extensive endnotes a mind-boggling story from the frontiers of biophysics. Reading merely the introduction to this immensely important book will open your mind to a radically different paradigm of human functioning, one that is laying the foundation for more fully understanding all kinds of phenomena of living processes thatheretofore have remained insoluble mysteries.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
This diet book is a waste of money. If I would go on this diet,I would starve. It is so restrictive that I would very soon be bored with the foods allowed.I want to lose weight but I don't think I would be able to stick to this restrictive a plan. There seems to be some inconsistencies in the book.Recipes include things he says earlier in the book are no-nos.So are they ok or not?Don't waste the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope for Pot Bellies
This is the first book I have read that turned the three main energy sources into just two. Calories (energy) come from carbohydrates, fats and protein. But if your body is turning protein into energy, it removes the amino portion of the molecule first, and burns the rest as a carbohydrate. This is why both carbs and proteins stimulate the release of insulin, the hormone that is too high in virtually everyone who needs to lose weight. That is especially serious in diabetics, who are told to cut sugar, but encouraged to overindulge in protein. The results of substituting protein for carbs include disappointing results and kidney stress. One needs some protein for its own sake, so Dr. Rosedale--unique among low-carb diets--recommends calculating how much you need, and then sticking to that level.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Rosedale Diet
I got this book subsequent to being diagnosed with high cholesterol, and being put on statin medication, to reduce it.I was appalled when I went to pick up my first thirty Zocor tablets, and was told "That'll be $155 please."I haven't had health insurance for three years now, and couldn't afford this amount.I was abit dismayed anyway, at being put on this medication.I thought I'd be able to bring my cholesterol down by reigning in my diet, I'd been eating poorly prior to my bloodwork.I found generic medication I could afford, and took it for two months, but wasn't convinced that inhibiting an enzyme in my liver was the way to solve the problem;if anything, the medication allowed me to keep eating crappy, and not have bad blood levels! So, after trying it the conventional way, and seeing that, yes, my cholesterol levels had come down, I decided to try Dr. Rosedale's diet, and supplement plan.I found it online, while researching cholesterol.I am in my third month of the diet, and, while I say I "approximate" the diet, I pretty well stick to the supplement plan.I've had some really good experiences with this, and some fear, at the high levels of some supplements he recommends, but have had remarkable results with Vitamin K.I was diagnosed with osteopenia a year or so ago, and put on Fosamx, which I refused to take.It also was expensive, $14 per weekly pill, and its mechanism of action, as well as potential side-effects turned me off.Dr. Rosedale recommends 2000 mcg of K per day for oseteoporosis prevention, 8000 mcg per day for treatment.Since osteopenia is a milder form of bone loss that osteoporosis, I take 5000 mcg per day, of K-1, which is what you get in most vitamin bottles. The chemical name starts with a P.There's another Vitamin K, which is K-2, and whose chemical name starts with an M, which you have to be careful about, because high levels of it can harm you, but the research I did on the internet says that K-1 isn't harmful at high levels, and can be helpful with connective tissue diseases. This I have to tell you.I have suffered from Dupuytren's in my left hand for five years, and mine was atypically painful.I was also getting Leiderhose, and Peyronies.Devestating.I was scared to take 2000 mcg K per day all at once, from the 100 mcg I was taking, so I ramped up to 1000 mcg the first day, then 2000 mcg the next day, and 5000 mcg the fourth day. After the second or third day, I began to notice dramatic changes in my left hand: reduction of pain, increased comfortable range of motion. Now, three weeks out, my Peyronies is all but gone, my Leiderhose almost gone, and my left hand only mildly affected.I was starting to get it in my right hand as well, and althought I still feel aches sometimes, it's greatly reduced over what I was experiencing before I took the increased doses of K.The stuff is cheap, too.I get 100, 100 mcg pills for $1.96.For a supposedly incurable disease! But I tried ordering Dr. Rosedale's supplements online, at his website, and although it took my order, it didn't ship, and my bankcard was never debited. Also, I wrote to Dr. Rosedale to tell him about the connective tissue disease improvements, with the Vitamin K, and to thank him for writing his book, and my mail came back, "Moved, no new address".I didn't know what to make of this, but the changes have been marvelous.I'm learning what it's like to relax.I was in a hyper state for so long, I guess with all the carbohydrates I used to eat, that the unhyper state seemed strange to me at first.I can look, plan, act. Before, and still sometimes, I act compulsivley, always running, like a hamster on a wheel, but this diet slows me down, allows me to be more in the moment, emotionally, which is not always positive, but at least it's real, and I'm learning to tolerate emotions I previously would have run away from. I used food as a place to hide, and, letting that go, I deal with reality more directly now.I just stop, get ahold of myself, wait, and the overwhelming feeling passes.I experience moments of stopping keeping myself in a perpetual motion cycle, and see outside of the corner I'd painted myself into. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Basic to Advanced Techniques for the Professional
Very, very informative book. Well written and easy to follow. This book contains a step by step map of Cal Banyon's 5 Path hypnotherapy regression techniques. Beginning with the pre-talk, and right through the regression it goes on to work with forgiveness of oneself and others and also reviews parts therapy.I enjoyed it so much that I took the regression workshop with Cal Banyon later.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally somebody wrote this book!
As a massage therapist I see many clients whom "conventional" medicine has failed, who were tired of taking pain medication. Myofascial pain can be seem mysterious and there is a very high rate of misdiagnoses. For anyone who has suffered from shoulder pain the often contradictory information out there about prognosis and treatment can be bewildering. I tell my clients that they must become their own advocates, learning as much about their anatomy as possible and becoming experts on specialized areas of medicine that their doctors might not have time to research thoroughly. This is easier said than done, however, as most of us don't have the time or resources to find and sift through available studies and alternatives.
1-0 out of 5 stars Please do your homework first.
It is a widely known medical fact that frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition where the joint capsule (the tissue around the actual ball and socket shoulder joint) has become fibrotic- just look it up on the internet. Having undergone this fibrosis, the capsule is thickened and thus shoulder motion becomes limited. It is a self-limiting condition, according to the many natural history studies that follow people with this condition for years, which means that the shoulder capsule gradually returns to normal over time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Desperate to find real help
My wife has been suffering for months with debilitating anxiety. In addition to medication and therapy, we have read about 6 (layman) books on the subject.I found this book to be the only secular book on the subject that offered practical, clear information that really helped.Save your money and order this book first. It is very comprehensive, well organized, and easy to understand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Magnesium can relieve anxiety; please read this review!
I am very familiar with the pain of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for I suffered from these maladies for several decades. During those years of suffering I believed that my problems were purely mental and underwent treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists. I took various prescribed medications and read many books such as this, but experienced little relief. And then something wonderful happened: I began taking a daily supplement of chelated magnesium (for a different ailment) and shortly thereafter experienced a significant diminishment of anxiety in addition to cure of the ailment for which I had originally taken the supplemental magnesium. There seemed to be no explanation for why taking supplemental magnesium caused this wonderful loss of anxiety until the publication in 2003 of the important book The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Early in her book Dr. Dean reveals that a major cause of anxiety and panic attacks is deficiency of magnesium and that magnesium deficiency is quite common in the U.S. Therefore, I beg all sufferers of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia -- whatever else you may do -- please purchase and read The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean and please try the magnesium supplementation which she recommends. It may change your life as it has changed mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Typical Advise (that you've already heard)
This book is extremely helpful to those who have found other advise too elementary. If you have tried the basics - diet, relaxation, medications - and are not satisfied that you are getting to the ROOT of your problem, try this book. The author helps you discover personality traits and other issues that could be undermining your basic sense of security. I have always considered myself to be a very strong person and I was at a loss when I began experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. I quit caffeine, learned to relax and started eating better. It helped, but I still didn't feel "right." I have gotten much more relief from my symptoms by reading this book. The author asks questions to help the reader explore the BIG things in life, including love, spirituality and having a sense of purpose. He includes a lot of food for thought as well as practical advise on how to build for yourself a secure, meaningful life. The language is very easy to read, written intelligently and respectfully. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best singlenatural medicine book, I have read, which was written forboth laymen and practitioners
When patients ask me to recommend the book, most likely improve their health, Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition, is the one I recommend, unless they suffer from diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue or cancer.I recommend Michael Murray's How to Prevent and Treat Diabetes with Natural Medicine andHow to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine, when they are more specific, to patient problems. The information on liver detoxification, diabetes, alcoholism, attention deficits, depression, obesity, migraines, osteoarthritis, restless leg syndrome, obesity, high blood pressure, hepatitis and prostatitis has improved our patient outcomes. We have succeeded in totally eliminating restless leg syndromes, in 2 days, using research contained in this book. The prostatitis protocols have produced 75 % reductions in nocturia. The migraine protocols can totally eliminate histamine headaches and reduce migraine pain, at least 50 %.We were able to lower an insulin diabetic's blood sugar 50 points using Gymnema, a herbal, recommended by this book. The book isthoroughly and exhaustively researched and documented. This book is readable, unlike much of the original research, published in journals. The main addition, which would make the book more complete, would be additional information about bioidentical hormone replacement.I have heard Michael Murray lecture and he isbrilliant andknowledgeable. His interest in reducing suffering is obvious.Michael Murray and his books are excellent, impressive advertisements for Bastyr College of Natural Medicine, although I have never seen him promote Bastyr College. I doubt I am the first reader or lecture attendee, whowished theyhadtime to be trained, at Bastyr College, after learning how knowledgeable their professors are.

I totally agree with dr young's view on yeast and fungus, I have seen it with myself at only 23 and feeling sick and tired and with no energy. I managed to research the sick and tired feeling after going to the doctors for many years and being told I have a virus!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Dr. Bob's Guide to Stop ADHD in 18 Days is a terrific resource, not only for families of children w/ADHD, but for anyone wanting to improve their lifestyle naturally. Although it is geared towards treating the child with ADHD, it will overall improve the entire family's health, as it provides a wealth of great nutritional information! I would highly recommend anyone with a child with ADHD read this book, it will really get you thinking about what we are feeding our families, and what we should be eating. Anne Grein, Ste. Genevieve, MO

5-0 out of 5 stars Teacher noted improvements first week!!!!
I purchased this book in hopes of decreasing or eliminating my 11.5 year old son's Ritalin. He started the vitamins/minerals/and Omega 3 and so far we have eliminated dairy products and prepared waffles and cereals switching to wheat, gluten, and milk free waffle mix, and increased water consumption- 6 days ago. His teacher asked me what I changed at home on day 5; she asked because he had an excellent week. The timing was not planned but the week coincided with the state standardized testing- he didn't even use the scribe his IEP states he's entitled to!! I will soon decrease his Ritalin working closely with his psychiatrist, therapist, teachers, and sports coaches. I have already recommended this book to school staff and parents. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FIve Stars Seems a bit much but let me explain ...
I have been training in TCM most of my life now.The thing about a lot of these transations is that people often make assumptions based on grammer ECT ... about what these books are worth ... my Chinese is OK ... but I don't have perfect grammar and most Chinese respect that. There is a bit of Chinglish in this book, but it is definately read-able.The books from the mainland are usually the ones with the clinically tested, and/or properly translated point selections and combinations.Giovanni's and Deadman's Point Selections are INSANE, most of them make NO sense from the stand point of properly trained traditional Chinese medicine, get this book for the point cominations if anything.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not all bad, but there are alternatives
I was given a copy of this book when I signed up for training courses in the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It isn't all bad, and I learned a lot from it.The problem is that one can learn so much more from other texts such as Maciocia's Foundations of Chinese Medicine and Deadman, Mazin and Baker's A Manual of Acupuncture. This book tries to be comprehensive, but it is, at times, incomprehensible. For example, Maciocia's writings on TCM Syndrome Differentiation is much easier to comprehend than the equivalent chapters here.In fact, I found myself studying Foundations instead of this book for such topics as the 8 principles. This book also assumes too much.It does not recognize the fact that most westerners cannot readily grasp the marked differences in western and eastern philosophy.Again, this is a topic that Foundations (and Web that has no Weaver) covers much more excellently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
The book is an excellent choice for anyone interest in the subject. I've bought and read 4 books on this subject (Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook by Jeanne Marie Martin, The Candida Albicans Yeast Free Cookbook by Pat Connolly, The Yeast Connection Cookbook by William Crook) but this one is the most conscise and yet it's offering all the answers. Dr. Murray offers a lot of suggestions on the diet and natural supplements that are essential for good health and boosting up an immune system. Medicine alone did not help me but combining the medicine with the diet recommendations found in this book showed results.

2-0 out of 5 stars I disagree
I bought this book since everyone was giving it 5 stars. The first part of the book was o.k., but then, it got into way too much detail. I found the descriptions of the cells, lymphs and technical names for every enzyme pretty boring. I had to make myself finish reading it. Buy it if you want to read every detail of the immune system. If you are like me and need something more basic, look on.
