4-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing
I trained in acupuncture some 25 years ago: at a time when contemporary chinese rigidity was just beginning to creep in and edge traditional practices on to the sidelines. Unfortunately, it has since come to dominate, negating the art and skill of the practitioner to the point where he or she is effectively redundant and software can diagnose and prescribe. Some people may enjoy being treated by a computer. I'm not one of them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Every acupuncturist and bodyworker should read this book
I have every one of Dr. Seem's books. As a registered nurse with 30 years of experience and a Zen Shiatsu therapist to boot, I can recommend his books without hesitation. Every though Dr. Seem is an acupuncturist, he (whether he knows it or not) is also a master bodyworker. All his work has been proven to be beneficial not only by Dr. Seem but by others in the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars an important work
Mark Seem's book isa comprehensive guide to using acupuncture in the treatment of myofascial pain. Being anacupuncturist and TCM practitioner (having done part of my training in China) I agree with Dr Seem's views on the herbalisation of acupuncture completely. Jane Austin's review I findfrankly silly, and would not be surprised if it was simply a plant from arival author intent on bringing down this books averages. This is adefinite 5 star book and a must read for any acupuncturist who wants tohelp their patients get out of pain as quickly and efficiently as possible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice introduction to Energetic Medicine
Dr. Mark Seem is a well known and respected Acupuncturist and founder of Tri-State Institute of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Stamford, Connecticut. The book presents theoretical foundations of the Acupuncture technique as practiced and taught by the author.
4-0 out of 5 stars Discussing the Body-Mind Split
Mark Seems Bodymind Energetics addresses the issue of our understanding ofthe "physical" and "psychological" aspects of health. Seem covers some of the historical background to the "body-mind"split in western thinking and the practice of medicine. He uses models ofthought taken from studies of the early pioneers of psycho-somatics, andmodels developed from ancient Chinese medical texts to discuss this'split'.2-0 out of 5 stars Monotonous and close-minded
When I first read this book, I could not help but wonder why the authorsounded so angry! The entire text could have been written in 20 pages, buttends to drag on monotonously, repeating statements many times in the sameaggressive tone. The tone and repetition of the text tends to lead youaway from the few morsels of interesting and useful information, such asthe wonderfully concise overview of basic chinese medicine that even a layperson could understand. It is such a shame that this book was so horriblywritten with it's truly advanced use of the English language, that it isdifficult to follow, understand, and even pick up again to finish. This isno light reading, folks. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Overview of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine
The author begins with a clear and unbiased explanation of the underlying differences between Western and Eastern Medicine.Within this context, he explains how and why acupuncture works using non-technical terms that any layman can understand.
5-0 out of 5 stars Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine 101
This easy to understand, unbiased explanation of acupuncture, acupressure, and Chinese medical philosophy helps fill one of the missing links in our understanding of health and disease. It not only offers the reader a fascinating view of Chinese medicine, but provides self-help acupressure techniques from a practitioner who obviously knows his stuff. I enjoyed reading it and think every one interested in this field of medicine and self care can greatly benefit from reading it as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Power
This book is a really good book. It tells you more then just medicine, it also speaks about its orgen of the art of eastern medicine. It explanes the hard to explane, and gives you information to carry with you even after you close the book. Exelent book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very important
I just want to read this book,bc it is very important for me.But I already made this o0rder before and I return it back.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
This is a great book. It supplements other great authors, such as Joseph Helms M.D. There are so many styles of acupuncture, this is another well outlined method. There are no descriptions for physical technique of needle placement or manipulation, but multiple point selections. This is a modern book for an ancient medicine. Mr Ross very skillfully sorts out what you need and do not need form the ancient material and he eliminates sources that are contradictory.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent source of diagnostic & therapeutic tools
This book successfully combines the classic uses of the acupunture points with modern concerns of emotional distress, modern-life trauma and pains.Dr Ross, like a true master, shares his knowledge and experience in the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine.I am eager for this book to be available for purchase. It will be a well-used and welcome addition to my practice library. No matter where I open the book, I am wide-eyed with wonder at the wealth of information at my fingertips. Most acupuncture books repeat the same info over and over - this book is a true innovation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on Acupuncture
Every acupuncture student should have one. Its a unique reference. The material is well written and better applied if you can fallow the advice. You will find each point with a drawing close by. Its basic functions plus supplementary indications. The classical references form ancient chinese books, are really good and unique. I will use with all my students.
3-0 out of 5 stars Only as a secondary text
There is nothing particularly exceptional about this book. Much of the information contained can be found in many another text. If i were to recommend a text i would most certainly choose "A Manual of Acupuncture" by Peter Deadman, or "Acupuncture, a Comprehensive Text," translated by Dan Bensky et al. Although i have this book on my shelf, i simply don't have the time to look through differing texts to gleen information, it is simply not my first choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best introduction!
"Fundamentals of Chinese Acupuncture," is one of the most complete introductions to the Chinese system available. The first section is broken into cohesive information segments. The way it is organised allows you to sit with it and read a segment in a few minutes and learn something important. This book is geared towards practice giving practical and useful information immediately and consistantly. If you sit with a segment until you understand it, by the time you are done you have a very nice full picture of the practice of this wonderful art.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading!
I am a student of Acupuncture currently working on a BSc degree in Oriental Medicine and bought this book for a research project on Acupuncture and Pain Management. Even though the author is a practiving Doctor of Naturopathy as well as Osteopathy, he has very little insight into Acupuncture. He calls TCM theory and diagnisis - which is the basis of successful Acupuncture - "antiquated Chinese mythology". Page 9 reads: "I (the authhor) maintain that much of what traditional acupuncturists hold to be true consists of theories and quaint explanations steeming from Chinese mythology and antiquity. The value of these to an age not versed in modern scientific terminology is obvious." One the same page ee also remarks that "Myths and antique phraseology are often perpetuated as a result of an inability to see what is real in the vast literature that has grown around this subject...". No TCM diagnosis is applied, no point selections guidelines are given, no treatment formulas suggested. The title of this book is misleading. It should be called "sticking a needle where it hurts - a guide for the ignorant".

2-0 out of 5 stars Another view
This author is obviously very well versed in alot of material as you know from everything he has written. He remarks that he will only use from acupuncture what is real and forget the hocus/pocus.I feel that Mr Chaitow highly underestimates the powers of acupuncture medicine. I am a western trained physician who has just trained in this ancient wonderful world of acupunture. There is no methodical or conceptual description for point selection, but a mere lists of points for pain in areas of the body. For headaches-points A,B & C. For backpain--points X,Y & Z, etc.I have no regrets in the purchase, but I like it only to supplement my other material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, Very Good Charts
I checked this book out from the library.I was impressed with charts and specific points that are not described in other books.Talks about type of needle, time, and in general everything you want to know.Has meridian, point reference, Chinese name, anatomical position, depth of insertion, andany special notes you should know.Excellent reference material.I checkthings out thourghly before I buy.You can't go wrong w/this book.I'mpurchasing this for myself now....... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Much underappreciated
I've always thought this is a great textbook on basic Chinese medicine. I wish more schools used it as their basic introductory text. The material is authoritative and the terminology is accurate. I think you get a lot of value for your money with this book. I far prefer it to Giovanni Maciocia's Foundations book. This book could solve a lot of the problems in the TCM schools in North America.

5-0 out of 5 stars For basic theory, look no further
It's too bad that Fundamentals has not received more attention from credentialing bodies and colleges of Chinese medicine in the US. It compiles and translates some excellent Chinese sources on Chinese medical theory and synthesizes them into an organized and coherent textbook.5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, FUNDAMENTAL, ESSENTIAL!!
This book is like a complete textbook on Chinese Medicine. It goes over all the fundamental theories in great depth and detail. Beginning with the Yin-Yang theories and going through the Five Phases, 8 principles, and everything else, this book provides all the necessary information. It does read like a textbook, but only because it IS a textbook! I am not enrolled in a school of Oriental medicine, but I bought this book and I LOVE it. It was inexpensive for its size and the amount of information it provides. I am able to read it even though I have not had any formal training in TCM, yet I think experienced students and even practitioners will find this book useful and complete.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction
If you know nothing about Acupuncture or Acupressure and are considering treatment this book is a great introduction.Although it talks about Acupressure more than Acupuncture the pressure points are the same for both methods. It talks about the most common issues people seek treatment for, explains what to expect on your first visit, and the basic science behind this ancient form of treatment. I highly recommend it for people who are considering this treatment and have no experience with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars not as excepted
this book talks more about acupressure and how to use it butdoes not go into that much depth for accupunture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantasic visual tool for students and professionals, alike
The visual graphics of Q-Puncture rise above other acupuncture multimedia products.I'm a student of acupunture and I've done a great deal of searching to find tools to assist in my studies. I was so pleased to find Q-Puncture.The software includes beautifully designed 3-D animation for needle incertion and graphics that are visually stimulating and quick in locating points and pathways.I also liked the fact that Q-Puncture included OM diagnosis and even Western Medical references.Where I used to put tabs on my text books to help me save time in finding specific information, now it's just a click of a mouse! It's easy to use and packed with the acupuncture information needed to study for the California Licensing Board (the most challenging exam of its kind in the US). I highly recommend adding Q-Puncture to your study materials, as well as, a reference tool for your office.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent 3D illustration of meridian points and its descrip
I've seen numbers of acupuncture books and some softwares but by far, this was the best and easiest tool to learn about acupuncture. You have to see what they did with 3D technology to show the meridian points. Along with 3D illustrations, every point includes sections of "1) Where to find 2) What it does 3) When to use and finally 4) How to needle"I found these features to be the most useful and easy to understand. Other fine features included were, explanation and philosophy of Oriental medicine, demonstrations of 14 channel pathways, and therapeutic effects as well as clinical explanations of commonly diagnosed illnesses. You will find this book&software to be absolutely wonderful. ... Read more
