5-0 out of 5 stars Best radiology book on the market, great for nat'l boards
I graduated chiropractic school this year.I used this book in school and found this it to be filled with lots of info on soft and hard tissue pathology. The radiographs are excellent in this book.Every condition from spinal bifida occulta to fibrous dysplasia is described with the utmost detail.Every chapter has a helpful summary that summarizes all the important points of each condition.I also used this book to help me study for Part II, III and IV of the National Boards. However, if you really want a great book to study for the national boards do what my study group and I did, get the following:4-0 out of 5 stars Yochum & Rowe Essentials
An essential text for all chiropractic and medical students as well as practicing doctors.Useful write-ups on hundreds of conditions.Wonderful coverage of arthritides and tumors.Huge section on normals and a small section on positioning. The only place it's lacking is in chest and abdomen, and that's because it's a book on skeletal radiology.I couldn't do without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY!
I highly recommend these books to anyone that wants a firm foundation inradiology. The chapters follow a simple, logical progression that firsttime readers will enjoy. The pictures and diagrams that are included allowthe student to get a true feeling of the various radiological findingsassociated with disease processes.A must for any student's personellibrary! ... Editorial Review

The first edition of this workbook is regarded as a classic in its field, and was the first book to introduce trigger point therapy to the general public as a self-care tool for alleviating chronic pain caused by a variety of conditions, including arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, muscle ache, and repetitive strain injuries. As the author makes clear, all such conditions are related to lack of oxygen in exhausted or injured muscle tissue. Trigger point therapyhas been used for decades by doctors, pain specialists, and massage therapists to quickly stimulate the flow of oxygen and promote rapid pain reduction. This book makes the same techniques available to the general public with instructions that are easy to follow, and abetted by an extensive collection of charts and corresponding illustrations. 4-0 out of 5 stars Okay, But...
This a good trigger point therapy workbook, complete with "rubberball" tools, but the problem is, once again, this therapy is being touted as the "be-all-end-all" approach to pain management and health.Trigger point is a modality, a bodywork modality, and needs to be recognized as such.Just as massage, reflexology, and shiatsu are modalities, there needs to be a line drawn so people don't confuse this with a health book.Gangi's book does much better in defining our path to balanced health, and also redefines therapies such as this one so people aren't confused or misled. High on the list because it's used in massage schools, but not the best for people wanting to find the cause of their pain, and then dealing with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Useful Book for Me
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook is founded on Travell and Simons' research, but it's Travell and Simons LITE.Sixteen-hundred pages of difficult medical language have been reduced to a concise, easy-to-read 323 pages, while retaining all the essentials of trigger point science.
5-0 out of 5 stars 'Trigger Happy'
Feel a sore "knot" in your neck? Back? Leg? Then you likely know trigger points. Headaches? Sore back? Hip? Then you likely know trigger points. Why not get to know them better - and help them move out! The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook clearly explains trigger points, how to locate them, and how to de-activate them. There are well over 100 muscles identified (including pronunciations) in this book. The delightful news is that you don't need to learn them all (or how to pronounce them) before you begin! Thanks to the smartly-designed illustrations and easy-to-understand guidelines, you can begin the healing process right away! Being a colossal skeptic, I am hesitant whenever I encounter an exaggerated claim...but here goes. This book has actually changed my life! And I'm confident it will continue to do so. Within two days of using this book, I felt genuine relief from my long-time companion: pain. As a great believer in the "patient, heal thyself" approach, I have tried many remedies over the years - including massage, reflexology and accupressure. I continued the search. I was aware of trigger points and some of the mischief they can cause, however, it was not until I came across this book that I actually understood trigger points. This book has changed my life - and I'm thrilled to have found it! Can this book change your life? Yes. Will this book change your life? I encourage even the most skeptic of skeptics to give it a try. You will be glad you did. Mr. Davies and his daughter, Amber, have given us the tools to help us help ourselves heal. They note on page 45: "You deserve to be pain free. Give yourself this gift." It's in your hands - literally. A piece of advice...get yourself a good highlighter. You'll want one. Happy healing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Toprehabilitation book on the market
As a Licensed acupuncturist focusing on muskuloskeletal pain, I am always looking for pragmatic, integrative data to increase the wellbeing of my patients and their resiliency to injury. Dr. Liebenson did an excellent job in combining top of the line clinical pearls that are ready to melt into one's practice essentially the next day. The DVD is great in adding visual cues to enhance the learning experience acquired throughout the textbook. Excellent work.
5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL TEXT FOR ALL SPINAL CARE PRACTIONERS
One of the remarkable aspects of this text, and there are many, is that Dr. Liebenson has added so grandly to his original book.New and re-written chapters reflect the continued evolution of the current biopsychosocial model of lower back pain.New authors havebeen added and contribute further depth to this updated gem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Integrated Approach to Low Back Pain blending Research and Practice
This is one of the most comprehensive texts for rehabilitation of the spine I have seen in over 10 years of practice. As a physical therapist, I've learned that spine rehabilitation requires a broad knowledge of techniques, since every spine patient is different. The modern practitioner needs to have an ecelctic approach to rehabilitation since no 2 patients are alike, even with the same diagnosis.Dr. Liebenson has done a great job in providing the scientific and clinical application of a variety of spine rehabilitation principles with a multidisciplinary approach including a virtual "who's who" of physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, and researchers from around the world.Of particular interest to me is the Czech approach to spinal rehabilitation based on contributions from legendary physicians Vladimir Janda and Karel Lewit.Top researchers including Bogduk, McGill, and Hodges also present the latest evidence-based interventions.I was quite pleased to see the amount of photographs and diagrams illustrating specific techniques and exercises, which is even further enhanced with videos on the enclosed DVD. Long gone (I hope) are the days of "hot packs, ultrasound and massage" as the treatment of choice for low back pain. We know that exercise is the most important component in back rehabilitation, but we must first be able to accurately assess the patient and prepare the tissues for exercise programs specific to the patient needs and goals. Dr. Liebenson and his contributors have given us the tools do do just that... they have captured a virtual paradigm shift in the way we approach the assessment and rehabilitation of the spine.I highly recommend this textbook for any healthcare professional treating spine patients. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars worth a buy if you do not mind typos
Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques is an alternative to Travell's Trigger Point Manual if you do not do TP injections. It has great pictures, well explained treatment techniques (if you are up to date with your anatomy and medical terms) and lots of references. The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the money!
I'm an Advanced Practitioner of Massage Therapy and find this book VERY helpful. The Muscle Energy Techniques (M.E.T.s) are explained very thoroughly, and the accompanying drawings, and or pictures, are very helpful. While familiar with the M.E.T.s, having this book as a reference for all the upper body muscles, and their positioning for the best M.E.T. applications, is very rewarding. I'd recommend this book highly to anyone that has a basic understanding of the therapeutic aspects of massage and M.E.T.s.5-0 out of 5 stars Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques - Vol. I
This is a really clearly written, concise book, with drawings and pictures of muscle positions, trigger points, etc.I bought the Jane Travell Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Books before this one came out, and for the money wish I had bought the Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Tech. Book.Unless you are a Physician, who wants to inject the patient's trigger points with a saline solution, and then you better be very exact in your aim with the needle, I think the Clinical Application of Neurom. Tech. Book is a much more practical, useful, hands on,straight forward book that addresses all the trigger points, origins and insertions of the muscles in a very user friendly way.Until this book came out, Jane Travell's was the only great reference guide; but what patient really likes injections? Now this book surpasses Dr. Travells, in that all the material in it is useful and usable. Can't wait for Vol. II, Lower Body, to come out. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This looks like fraud
I did this treatment for my son with Autism. We went to a local practitioner and paid about $125 per hour and it did not work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does NAET work? Evidence to the contrary.
I'll keep this short because the book is well reviewed by others. You must go to a licensed practitioner of this art to receive treatments ... dozens of treatments. If you are persuaded by this book, it will still take your faith in the writer and endorsers to embark on a series of treatments that will take many hours of your time and thousands of dollars - with no warranty expressed or implied, if you know what I mean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Jim Johnson
Physical therapist (P.T.) Jim Johnson's The Multifidus Back Pain Solution is a straight forward, educational and hope inspiring read that has been effective in helping me address my lower back and leg nerve pain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview of Approaches Used For Back Therapy
I found this book to be an excellent guide and would highly recommend it to anyone starting their own journey in addressing a back injury. It's short, but it has a lot of good information very well presented. While the author does focus on the multifidus muscle, the book gives a very objective overview of how to handle back problems in general, from generic lower back pain to pain associated with herniated disks. He also helps lay people understand how the medical profession categorizes back injuries to put them in their proper scope. The book describes several exercises, but not anything beyond the scope of the multifidus.More exercises would have been a great addition, but the book isn't about all back exercises.Anyone with a serious back injury should see a physical therapist for guidance. What I found most useful in the book is the short mention of steroid injections (epidural), which seem to be questionably useful. The author could have elaborated more on the appropriateness of them, as it's hard to compare your own situation with those in studies (ie: how many millimeters is the disk bulging).I also liked the fact that the author provided select references for the types of issues most lay people would be interested in viewing. In my own experience, I've learned that a muscle imbalance is most likely the cause of my L5-S1 herniated disk, and it took 14 weeks and a good number of visits with various practitioners to come to that conclusion.

4-0 out of 5 stars the little know multifidus muscle
I had 2 herniated discs.Went through chiro, massage, p.t., cortisone injections....then i read this book and began following the exercises in it.The MacKenzie method DID NOT work for me, it only created more pain. This book was extremely helpful to me.Surprisingly, my massage therapist recommended it, not my physical therapist, orthopeadic, or chiropractor.I am fully healed without surgery and running marathons!I recommend this book to any average person who wants to have a better understanding of how to strengthen your back and core! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A history of America's best-kept secret
With a limited understanding of osteopathic medicine's roots, I set on a crash course to find an osteopathic medical history book similar to what a Kenneth Ludmerer's "Time to Heal" did for the history of medicine itself. And with Norman Gevitz's book, I was surely not disappointed. One would think that as a book recommended by the AOA and written by a osteopathic medical school professor, the book would be slanted. However, Gevitz does a great job at maintaining neutrality as a historian while demonstrating a certain degree of candidness, particularly about M.D./D.O. relations and the future of osteopathic medicine.Despite my ecstasy for this book, I do feel that there are certain portions of this book that can be further elaborated (reasoning behind the four-star rating). For example, I would like it if more material was included about osteopathic medicine between 1960 and today.Specifically, Gevitz seems to gloss over the political and social reverberations behind Henry Kissinger's monumental decision to admit D.O.s in the military as equals to M.D.s.Nevertheless, I thought the book was very well written and has definitely sparked an interest into one of this nation's best-kept secrets. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Network care heals the spinal nervous system
I was skeptical when a friend introduced me to network chiropractic. Since my insurance company covered the full treatment sessions I decided to give it a go. The surprise was worth it. Network chiropractice heals the spine and the emotional nervous system. So not only are the problem areas adjusted but the tension held in the nervous sytem is released. This is not cracking the joints but working with pressure points to align the body naturally and gently into place. If you get coverage for chiropractice ... give this a go.

3-0 out of 5 stars Genius can be hard to understand...
I have completed over 100 sessions of Donald Epsteins "Network Chiropractic" or "Network Spinal Analysis" - and I can vouch for it. I believe it is unique, as it states, and not only is a process whereby you can overcome your pain, discomfort, and tension (defence physiology), but grow as a person overall. The benefits are without a ceiling to the "bodymind", and it just keeps getting better. It doen't even compare for example to the theory so highly touted and created by John Sarno (also reviewed) which is essentially learning how to control your pain. Network unwinds your spinal cord -- where all your tension resides, which is also said to be the subconscious mind.
5-0 out of 5 stars A groundbreaking work...
The 12 Stages of Healing presents a model of healing that allows the reader to be more "OK" with their own healing process. By learning to identify yourself in one of the 12 stages, you begin to see that what is going with you is not necessarily a "problem", but rather part of a larger process. The simple act of identifying the stage you're in and then doing the easy breathing exercise designed to get that particular rhythym flowing is often enough to move you into the next stage.I have seen over and over again the natural accuracy of Dr. Epstein's model: the moving from a sense of helplessness, to the reaching out(or sometimes blaming!), to the perceiving the stuck patterns in myself and on and on. Use this book as a daily guide to life's challenges. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite in the series! You've gotta check it out!
Another perfect title by Kristin Billerbeck, Calm, Cool & Adjusted sums up Poppy Clayton's life better than any title I could have come up with! Poppy lives for serenity and calmness, or as she calls it, energy. She could care less about looking cool, but that's not the kind of cool the author means. Poppy finds that special cool after thawing out, and I loved the character arc! It's what I live to read!
4-0 out of 5 stars terrific Spa Girls tale
Dr. Poppy Clayton is happy for her Spa Girls pals, but sad for herself. She is euphoric that Morgan (see A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND) and Lily (see SHE'S ALL THAT) have found their soulmates; both also are becoming mothers with the former to her fiancé's son and the latter being pregnant.Poppy is a bit down because she is left behind single with no loving mate in sight.
4-0 out of 5 stars CHISTIAN CHICK LIT
This is the third book in Billerbeck's "Spa Girls" series.Poppy's story is the one depicted in this novel.I loved the first two books in this series, so it was just natural for me to pick this one up as well.I can't say I loved it as much as Lilly or Morgan's stories, but nevertheless it was a good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally somebody wrote this book!
As a massage therapist I see many clients whom "conventional" medicine has failed, who were tired of taking pain medication. Myofascial pain can be seem mysterious and there is a very high rate of misdiagnoses. For anyone who has suffered from shoulder pain the often contradictory information out there about prognosis and treatment can be bewildering. I tell my clients that they must become their own advocates, learning as much about their anatomy as possible and becoming experts on specialized areas of medicine that their doctors might not have time to research thoroughly. This is easier said than done, however, as most of us don't have the time or resources to find and sift through available studies and alternatives.

It is a widely known medical fact that frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition where the joint capsule (the tissue around the actual ball and socket shoulder joint) has become fibrotic- just look it up on the internet. Having undergone this fibrosis, the capsule is thickened and thus shoulder motion becomes limited. It is a self-limiting condition, according to the many natural history studies that follow people with this condition for years, which means that the shoulder capsule gradually returns to normal over time.

The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful for the practicing physician and student
Pretty good book though I was surprised about the author's comment about the late, great osteopath Larry Jones who actually developed positional release through strain/counterstrain.I remember Larry as being a friendly, helpful chap who was much more flexible regarding his techniques rather than the rigid clinician that the author describes. Regardless, the British Osteopath Chaitow goes into details of the various positional release techniques such as strain/counterstrain, functional release etc. which helps clarifies all the terminology. Chaitow also has a video which is a good acompaniment to the book. Kind of wish I had this for the boards.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's THE book !
On a very complete way, once more, Chaitow shows on Positional Release Techiniques important ways to restablish functional state of different structure, such as muscle spasm, enhacing circulation and more. A very fine book that will be usefull for many manual trehapists. If you have any doubt, don't wait more, acquire it ! ... Read more

This book was very helpful in presenting alternatives to traditional medicine for a variety of health issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible book
This book is absolutly incredible. It had me drawn in from page one. Dr. Upldeger writes in a way that is fun, easy to understand and intreguing. It opened a whole new world to me. There are a few ideas that seemed a little "out there" but as I took one of the upledger classes and as I've used Craniosacral Therapy in my practice I have seen that the body has no limits...and anything is possible. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a simple read!
This book is not so much a book on Craniosacral therapy technique as an indepth anatomy textbook.Upledger explores in great detail each of the cranial nerves, the structure of the neck (focusing much attention on the hyoid bone), and the TMJ.He uses medical terminology and an information-dense writing style.Fortunately, there are well labeled diagrams on nearly every page to correspond with the text and illustrate what is being discussed.I found several useful pieces of information to improve the use of Craniosacral therapy with my clients, but I had to search to find these pieces. This is a book I will have to read over and over--not necessarily because I enjoyed the book, but because it has so much information it is difficult to absorb in one reading.I recommend the book if Craniosacral work is a significant part of your bodywork practice and you need more information for working in clinical situations.Be warned! It is not a book you can just keep on your shelf and pull out to quickly look something up in the middle of a therapy session. It is a book to be studied. ...
