4-0 out of 5 stars A book for exploration
This book helps explore the techniques, however I'd like to see more Q&A with the leaders in the various techique systems. For example, why not interview the leaders of structural techniqes or upper cervical tecniques?

5-0 out of 5 stars Objectivity and Intelligence
I teach chiropractic techniques at a well-known chiropractic college and have not seen a better compendium of technique summaries in print anywhere. This book offers an intelligent and succinct look at the most popular and effective chiropractic analyses and corrective procedures used by the profession. For any health care provider or patient looking for more information on what their chrio is doing, this is THE place to look.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chiropractic technique book charts new waters
I am not aware of any book that covers the same subject matter. As the authors state from the outset, this book is not an advertisement for any of the techniques described in the book, but rather an honest attempt to describe them as they are. It covers the major techniques in chiropractic according to a common format, so that a patient, a chiropractic student, a chiropractor, or anyone else interested in chiropractic can figure out what it means to be treated using one technique as compared with another.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars instant access to chiropractic guidelines and protocols
This small paperbound book provides a basic overview of several spinal, extremity, and general health conditions in a self-described "at-a-glance" format. Each section includes information regarding definition, etiology, principle symptoms, exam findings, lab & radiographic findings, and management guidelines. The book does provide some helpful information, but in most cases lacks appropriate detail.Clinicians looking for a text that provides detailed etiologic, diagnostic, and management data will not be adequately informed by this text.Frankly, a few chapters are quite helpful. For example, the chapters (2) dealing with fibromyalgia are some of the best I've yet read on this condition, providing important and clinically useful descriptions of the condition and (most importantly) a detailed list and description of other conditions which need to be considered during patient work-up.But most sections are insufficiently detailed for proper diagnosis and management -- the data in these chapters is introductory at best.Chapters on scoliosis, adhesive capsulitis, ligamentous injuries of the knee, cervical soft tissue injuries, etc., do not thoroughly cover these subjects. What IS provided in most chapters is an overview -- helpful perhaps for someone already versed in the details of these conditions, but inadequate as a primary guide.Neither would this book provide adequate preparatory material for a challenging (such as an oral) board exam.In my professional opinion, this book makes some good contributions, but does not replace more detailed reference texts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book!
This book will be beneficial to any chiropractic practice. It offers a very good overview of common conditions encountered in chiropractic practice. The layout is orderly and to the point. Especially helpful are the nutritional protocols. I highly recommend this to practitioners and students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pocket Review for Chiropractic Boards
I used this to study for my Part II, Part III and Part IV Boards as a reference to quick facts and treatment protocols. The condition was explained with specifity and then giving treatment protocol like adjustments, vitamin supplements and specific exercises. If you want to know how the boards will you ask you questions, get the following:Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great title, but missed the mark
This book holds great promise in the title, however the author fails in two major areas.First, as he explains his therapeutic approach he makes reference to feeling magnetic fields from the subject's body.I highly doubt that this is possible for any human, but even if he is able to do this it is not reasonable to assume that this skill can be transferred.Second, he repeatedly recommends feeling the underlying tissues and bringing them into alignment. While this seems more plausible than feeling magnetic fields, it remains highly doubtful that anyone not doing this on a daily basis will ever develop the skill to feel tissue below several layers of skin, fat, and other connective tissue.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for any practioner
Bill Weintrab presents emerging scientific information for manual therapists and practitioners that specialize in the treatment soft tissue injuries. This book can be appreciated by both practitioner and patient and gives light on the surprisingly dynamic nature of tendons and ligaments. In addition to the case studies he has an in depth chapter on self-help techinques. With the increasing number of injuries to tendons and ligaments from repetitve stress such as carpal tunnel syndrome and sports injuries, it is refreshing to read scientific information as a solid basis for hope in treating these injuies with conservative care

5-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking approach for healing injuries
In Weintraub's book he brings clarity and hopefulness to the non-surgical approach to injury (chronic and acute) recovery processes and strategies. He offers insight regarding larger whole-body patterns that influence the injury site and therefore must be addressed in the recovery process. As can be seen in his case studies, treatment is never solely a matter of specific attention to the injury site but must include attention to the related body systems as well.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Check this out before your impaired child has any surgery.
Led my wife and I to a therapy which has been part of her faster-than-most recovery from being in the post-operative headache group after acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma) surgery. When we found a practioner, he was able to Un-jam her cranial sutures from without (no surgery!). The therapy has helped her relax even with regular headaches, has provided good observation feedback for the progress from other therapies, and helped her recall her body position while in surgery, which helped figure why the present un-balance in her shoulders. Knowing the why of an affliction, helps live with it even while it's being alleviated. Now we have two friends whose kids are being recomended for major life-intrusive surgery, with little chance of success, when a cranio-sacral therapist can do more without surgery. Check it out for the sake of your kid's, and your own health Thank God for John Upledger, his work, and his staff, and the folks he's trained world wide. 1-0 out of 5 stars Typical old-school bias against chiropractic
I couldn't help but peruse this thing. It's chapter after chapter of out-of date claims by those who simply can't accept the fact that chiropractic is here to stay and that a growing body of research supports more and more of what they do.
1-0 out of 5 stars don't support this garbage
This is the type of medical attack, that has tried to denigrate Chiropractic for over 100 years. If you hold the medical profession to the same candle, you will ignite a flame for thousands of years.I am more than a little tired of quasi- scientists trying to make a buck off of a professional.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a pathetically biased book
I am in the unique position of having friends who are medical physicians, pharmacists and yes, chiropractors. Firstly I always have to laugh when MD's stand on the their high horse and call others unscientific and dangerous. If they read their own literature they would know (and I'm sure they do) that over 80% of all medical procedures and treatments are completely without scientific basis!! This is absolutely true and completely mind blowing! My MD friends admit to us that they know that antibiotics do not help for ear infections but prescribe them because "some mothers are quite insisting". Get a few beers in my pharmacist friends and they candidly admit that drug companies would screw you over in a heartbeat if it meant an increase in their stock. My chiropractor friends admit that their profession is not the be all end all, but at least they seem to know their place in healthcare and acknowledge their limitations. I wish the medical profession could do the same.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This really works!
Over ten years ago, my former company hired Dr. Imrie to reduce the back injury incidents at their manufacuring plant.Having suffered thru the pain, legal problems, financial problems .... etc., I approached the invitation with skepticism.I followed this program with desperation as nothing else was working. It is not an instant fix, rather it is life commitment (kind of like brushing your teeth everyday). The book explains why your back is hurting, what can be done about it, what can't be done about it, and how to overcome the obstacle of debilitating pain and go on to lead a healthy active life.It takes time (8 min. a day) but it leads to an injury resistant back.Companies who are looking for looking for Occupational Injury prevention should take a second look at this program. I am noting for the record, although having met Dr. Imrie and particpated in his workshop, I am not affiliated or in anyway connected to or profiting from this book. On a personal note, I think it is really funny and quite sad to try to help someone mired in the cycle of pain and debilitation along with the accompanying "quick fixes", pain reliever addiction, alcoholism, self-pity and on and on..., to try to help them with the techniques this book offers and hear them say, "I can't do that!" The difference between this book and the other many books I purchased on back injuries is not the exercises, they are all very similar.Rather Dr. Imrie focuses on the HOW to do them. This one very simple technique makes all the difference between effectiveness and just doing exercises by rote with no results. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that good....
This book focuses on subjects asked on the step 3 exam, but it needs to be rewritten to focus on the specific order onemust follow in evaluating patients.Step 3 is about choosing a 1st step, 2nd step or 3rd step. The set up of the book is good, but the info. is not complete.Residency Programs vary in their protocols so for this standardized exam it is imperative that you learn exactly the test protocols. If Andreas Carl would add these changes...this book could be excellent. At this point it is not good enough.A better choice is Adam Brochert's Crush step 3.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Last Minute Review (like a day or two before)
I sat down and read this book cover-to-cover the day before I took step three. The nice thing about this book is that it lays it out quickly and concisely. It helped with understanding the basics on a diagnosis or treatment. When I took the exam the next day, subjects came up again and again that I had just read the day before.I wouldn't use this book as my primary review book, but I feel it makes a great backup and "icing" for the cake.

4-0 out of 5 stars A useful "bring-everywhere" book

4-0 out of 5 stars a D.C. comments
Offers the intriguing hypothesis that the primary cause of many functional and structural disturbances is fixation/adhesion of visceral articulating surfaces. Can be used as a textbook of diagnosis and treatment by thosetrained in bodywork, especially those familiar with the subtle osteopathiccranial techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpfull!
Mr. Barral and Mercier adds to the osteopathic armamentarium with an easy understandable approach to the viscera and its associated structures as it relates to the body in a mechanical, neuro-logical and chemical manner, making it accesible for manual treatment (which of course should be incontext of treating the patient and not the pain). This book is helpfull asa learning tool (for educational support) and a clinical manual.

1-0 out of 5 stars No scientific support???
I'm not quite sure what people are saying when they say that chiropractic has no scientific basis.Have any of these people tried to do a literature review?Ever heard of JMPT (index medicus has)?Spine, the top medical journal involving neuromusculoskeletal issues of the axial skeleton frequently prints articles written by and about chiropractic.I don't care if people don't like chiropractic, but to say that it has no scientific basis is ignorant.

5-0 out of 5 stars chiropractors hate this book
I suspect that the negative reviews of this book were written by chiropractors. There is absolutely no scientific basis for chiropractic theory. Chiropractic is a sham, and costs the Ameerican public and Medicare and private insurance companies millions of dollars a year for treatments that have no value.
