massage for dummies
well, i guess i clicked on the uber small version.Which really isnt work it.

Nice and easy to use
I bought this book for my 12-year-old daughter, who is interested in becoming a masseuse.The book has a lot of different techniques, including reflexology, massage for babies and massage for animals.Unfortunately, our cat was not amenable to the techniques described.

Amazingly Helpful!
This book is fantastic!Even just learning the breathing exercise on pg 182 for polarity disorganization makes a huge difference in anything else you do.

Don't Be a Doubting Thomas
This book is absolutely amazing. After allowing yourself to swallow some pretty intense assumptions about energy and polarity (i.e. things you can't see or touch), you'll be able to rid your body and brain of anxiety, anger, fear, worry, and phobias (I can now look at a spider without a full blown anxiety attack). Just take the leap and you'll do wonders for yourself. It's easy to master the techniques (I devoted 3 hours one day to heal myself and it was worth every second). When I tell people about this book and what I did, they just look at me as if to say "oh...yeah...that's nice...I believe you...you're a nut job" but the bottom line is, it works, I believe in it and after living my life for 33 years full of panic, anxiety, the inability to travel without extreme sickness and fear - it's all gone. Subtle propaganda for the pharmaceutical companies
The authors of this book are key personalities of the American Botanical Council, an organization tirelessly committed to the takeover of herbal medicine by pharmaceutical companies, specifically German pharmaceutical companies that generously fund their company--and underwrite the production of their books. If you care about herbal medicine, don't give your money to this sinister organization!

Missing extremely important information
I am a clinical professor in a school of pharmacy and am admittedly biased toward traditional "western" medicine.However, any objective person would have to agree that there are major "gaps" in the information this book provides. In the section on St. John's wort, this book states that there are no known contraindications or drug interactions with St. John's wort.There are in fact serious drug interactions with this product, including anti-rejection drugs (resulting in at least one case of organ rejection in a renal transplant patient) and potentially fatal interactions with other anti-depressants (most importantly MAOIs). This book has extensive information on historical use of herbs, pharmacology and uses... but lacks important safety information.No clinician should use this book as his/her sole source of information on herbal products.

A reference book no professionalherbalist can be without
As an avid reader (and writer) of books on herbal medicine, I have to say that Blumenthal, Goldberg, and Brinckmann's Herbal Medicine is simply the most authoritative reference for the use of Western herbs on the markettoday. Herbal Medicine--Expanded Commission E Monographs augments the"gold standard" of scientifically oriented herbal therapy, theCommission E Monographs, with histories, in-depth and comprehensivediscussions of scientific research, color photos, and practicalrecommendations for the use of herbs in therapy, some of which are to befound in no other book. While the tone of the book is academic and thescientific complexity of the subject matter may scare away some potentialreaders, anyone who uses any of the herbs most commonly available in theUSA today can profit by referring to this book. ... Being a bit biased because I know the author and attend/ed her school, I can truthfully say her book leaves nothing out.It covers basics of therapeutic bodywork all the way up to actual helpful techniques for working with athletes.Contraindications, assessment techniques, rehab, case studies, it's all here.

Breath of fresh air
This book is filled with chapters which take readers back to what therapy was in its original form - spiritual expansion and exploration. Each chapter is unique and distinct, yet all of them flow together in harmony. My favorite chapter is Tales of the Goddess: Healing Metaphors for Woman. This chapter offers a perspective which empowers women to fully claim their feminine power without agression against men. I found this book to be empowering, informational, and diverse.

As a Shiatsu (3rd year)student, this book is so helpfull for me, that I am using it every day.
What a great book!
This is the definitive book on feng shue!It is not for people who are looking for fluff - this is serious, and well thought out.It has really worked to get me to focus on the important things in life and has helped in explaining the balance that we all need to have. You will be amazed !
We all love now to take care of our own health, right ?! Few of us understand, though, the Chinese medicine, unless you read a lot of books on same subject. And then you have to "digest" the information and apply it patiently to yourself. WE ALL ARE UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS. And the ones who will borrow or buy this book will prove to be the smart ones too. Hmmm...
I was skeptical of this book at first but immediately was drawn into the teachings from two differently disciplined people with one theory. What makes the book seem more credible to me was that Shealy is a medical doctor interested in holistic teaching, while Myss studied spirituality and holistic teaching and applies it to the medical field. More than anything, I saw this book as a great stepping stone to where the medical sciences are bound to go in the coming of our "New" age.I think eventually this book and the ideas presented in it need to be taken (and will be taken)into serious consideration by the medical field, as the examples used were believable and things I have seen myself. Interesting?Yes. Believable?Maybe.
While Myss and Shealy's book is interesting and thought provoking in that it introduces novel information regarding the mind-body connection, it lacks the scientific support that would make it entirely believable.Though the book's credibility is enhanced by the fact that Shealy is a medical doctor, there are far too many statements throughout that leave the reader wondering where the information came from and if it is backed by any research studies.Many valid points and theories are presented, however, they tend to be mixed in with very subjective and unsupported material.I would suggest that this book be used as a basic guideline for the current discourse about the connection between emotional, spiritual, and physical health, but that any information be further researched by consulting scholarly works in order to ensure its legitimacy.

Excellent for new mothers and yogis
This books is a great complement to the yoga pregnancy books. Once you have had your baby you can get back to your practice or start a new yoga practice. The book presents 4 classes for different stages of the baby's growth or mother's ability to move. In general, it is also a good introduction to yoga with basic introductory chapters. I am an expectant mother and yoga teacher trainee. I am planning on using this material as soon as I get certified and start teaching my prenatal and postnatal classes.

Good book for mom
I loved this book for postpartum yoga - it has a special section for cesarean moms, which was the reason I bought it.It has series of gradually increasing challenge, which I also like.However, I found it WAY too hard to incorporate my baby at first.Having a c section, it was hard enough to get in and out of the poses.Also, my newbron needs lots of attention and its hard to relax and focus on myself.Maybe this will change with time.Also, in terms of the baby interactions segments of each series, Baby Om was a little demanding of its babies - these sections included a full body massage and several exercise movements all in one sequence, and encouraged the mom to "keep trying" when baby resisted - my baby did not like this.I prefer Itsy Bitsy Yoga for baby yoga, as it gives very useful tips (such as going slow, stopping if baby is unhappy, etc) and offers different poses based on small developmental steps.A great book for moms, especially c section moms, but not the best for baby in my opinion.

Very Complete
I found this book to be very complete, with details on body positioning/benefits/etc. for each pose/exercise for you and your baby as well as many variations to make it work for you and your baby.They also included some information on baby massage and a special workout for c-section recovery.Its worth reading a few times before you dive into a workout to choose what you want to do and how you want to do it, rather than read while doing the workout and getting bogged down in all the options. ... Excellent Massage Reference for Injuries
Whitney Lowe defined orthopedic massage as a broad spectrum of techniques and approaches to treat soft-tissue dysfunction. And this is the main objective of this book to present symptoms of soft-tissue dysfunction and injuries, the cause and the treatment. The massage techniques used is an integration of trigger point, myofascial, deep transverse friction, and muscle energy techniques. This book is divided into two sections: the general principles, and regional approach to pathology and treatment. The first part run through the general principles the soft tissue injuries, specific massage techniques and its physiological effects. The regional approach describes the pathology of injuries to specific parts of the body. Each type of injuries is systematically described under the following heading: description, treatment, and cautions and contraindications. This is not only a bible of injuries, but also contains useful soft tissue manipulation. good information, but...
Skye Weintraub has definitely put together a great book. At first when she's identifying each parasite, she tells you the "conventional" way of treating each one--which upset me because she's an N.D. But I suppose the pharmaceuticals must be listed as well. Thankfully, later in the book she gives prevention advice as well as herbal remedies. I've learned a lot just researching the internet, but this book taught me even more. I am very glad I bought this book. I started treating myself before I got a hold of this and I wish I had read this first. I've made several mistakes, but hey--I'm still alive!Parasites-and getting rid of them-can be very dangerous. The problem is much more wide-spread than people realize. All these people with unspecified problems (fibromyalgia, CFS, IBS, colitis, etc.) would do well to purchase this book and find out the REAL cause of their ailments. I have been misdiagnosed for years and finally I had to diagnos and treat myself (obviously without using those horrible pharmaceutical drugs). I almost died because of parasites (don't know which ones) and the treatment. It is highly advised to find a good alternative care doctor (one that doesn't use drugs or surgery) before embarking on a cleanse, if in fact you are heavily infested as I am.As far as the reviewer who asked "where's the facts"--the book is not riddled with footnotes (which I appreciate). However, if you look in the back, Skye lists the books that she has used as reference. The only problem I have with the book is the fact that she recommends Grapefruit Seed Extract as a useful antimicrobial. Commercial GSE has been shown to contain methylparabens, triclosan, and benzethonium chloride. These chemicals make the GSE antimicrobial. DO NOT use commercially prepared GSE!!! In Dr. Weintraub's defense, the book was published (in 2000) about the same time as the study by von Woedtke (1999) which showed what the extract really contains; and before the study in 2001 by Gary Takeoka and his group, which confirmed the findings.If these studies were available to her, I don't think she would have recommended the use of GSE in her book. Thankfully, I am intelligent enough to do tons of research, not just trusting one book or source.All in all: a very good book, priced just right, and VERY much worth buying!!

Dr. Weintraub does an excellent job in discussing, in layman's terms, the diseases caused by parasites, as well as their prevention and treatment.Although not publicized, most people in the world have at least oneparasite, either of the worm or microscopic variety, and it is much moreprevalent in the US than most people realize.Included are numerousstatistics on incidences of parasite infestation around the world. Particularly, anyone who travels out of the country needs to read thisbook.Treatments are listed for each which include both conventionaltreatments as well as a large variety of alternative treatments.Youcannot rely on your physician to automatically 'think' the possibility ofparasites if you have a medical complaint, especially, if the symptoms arediffuse.And, even if testing is done, most laboratory tests do not show'positive' the first time tested, even though the patient may have theparasite.Arm yourself with this book! ...
