4-0 out of 5 stars Very Basic
An introduction to the philosophy and the practice of the Bach Flower Remedies. Dr. Edward Bach (a homeopathic physician) developed his own theory about the causes of disease.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple yet effective
Dr. Edward Bach, a skilled homeopathic physician, developed his own theory about the causeof disease. Dr. Bach believed that physical diseases begin as an imbalance in the patient'semotional well-being. By attending to emotions and weeding out harmful emotions from thepatient's psyche, a healing trend can be initiated that assists the patient in avoidingfuture physical diseases. Treating emotional states addresses diseases while they are stillat the energy level. Dr. Bach believed that the flower essences could even be helpful oncedisease had progressed to a physical manifestation. The flower essences do not replace othertreatments such as homeopathy, but they can assist other treatments by soothing thepatient's mental condition and initiating preliminary steps towards healing the imbalancethat led to the disease in the first place.5-0 out of 5 stars A great introductory book!
This book is a wonderful introduction to both the philosophy and the practice of the Bach Flower Remedies. It provides a lot of information without overwhelming the reader. The book is arranged in three sections. The first is Dr. Bach's essay entitled "Heal Thyself" which is about how each one of us has the power and is capable of healing ourself, the second section gives a short, useful description of each essence. The third section is a wonderful list of numerous emotional states and the appropriate essence to use for each one.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginning Book for Family Homeopathy
I highly recommend this book to those who want to learn more about homeopathy through practice. The book lives up to its description: most readers will be able to spend a couple hours with the book and begin using it.The companion medicine kit adds tremendous value to the book, and its supplier is reliable and helpful; in fact, I believe that we would have found it frustrating had we not bought the kit because most of the remedies the book recommends are in the kit; you do not have to go out when you are sick to get several remedies that you think you might need as you work through the illness. In addition, the kit is compact and very economical compared to buying remedies in stores.
5-0 out of 5 stars We wrote the book on homeopathic self-care.
If you are considering using homeopathic medicine for yourself and your family, by all means try it! This book is one of the easiest ways to get started. You will find how to gather the information from your friend or family member that you need to select a homeopathic medicine that has a high probability of working and helping to alleviate or cure a minor illness or first-aid condition quickly and easily. We designed this book to be a godsend to parents of a screaming two year old in the middle of the night. Its companion Homeopathic Self-care Medicine Kit, (order form in the back of the book), puts the remedies you need at your fingertips. If you don't believe that homeopathy works, try this book and put it to the test. We think it will change your mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly organized, easy to use self care guide.
Like the title of the book says this is a self-care guide. It is the best book I've seen so far on treating common, acute ailments using homeopathic remedies - and I've read quite a few.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Paperback Book on Herbal Healing
I found Earl Mindell's 'Vitamin Bible',at the Paperback Corner,in Princeton,Illinois. And i found the 'Green Pharmacy',at the Dollar-Store,for only a buck.I was amazed at how much information that small paperback had to offer, for just a buck.Dr.James Duke gives excellent scientific stats and uses of various herbs. He reveals the full skinny on every herb of value and interest, for everyone's prime health-care and preventive care.He also has a similar book called,'Renewel',that i would also recommend.I would have gladly paid the full-price for his book. This guide sadly got bumped to the discount shack. Yet,the mall-herd want their fast-food literature, that offers mostly 'empty ideas',and no food for thought.State governmernts could buy-up the copies,at discount bulk-rates,and hand-out the herbal books to all medi-care users.Have them take a 100 question multiple-choice test, over what they read. The ones who scored a 100 ,could collect their aid-money.The ones who did not pass ,were allowed the re-take until they passed with a perfect score. It would relieve alot of the health-care cost, that has grown so prohibitive ,for most local and state relief public aid offices. But,it seems business-as-usual from the pharmco-companies,who charge outragous sums for their re-formulated herbal product.Consumers Beware!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great starter text and layman's index
The Green Pharmacy Herbal Handbook is an informative and concise resource on the medicinal value of herbs written to the layman yet of value to the practitioner. Dr. Duke's no-nonsense approach to demonstrating the therapeutic value to useful herbal preparations as well as potential adverse reactions provides the reader with a useful index of commonly used herbs. This book is an easy read, and it is written in a straight-forward manner that makes it easily understood by those new to the ageless use of plants in our environment to ease and cure disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars DUKE'S BEST EFFORT BELONGS ON EVERY BOOKSHELF
I have read all of James Duke's books and this one is the best and most essential. Every common medicinal herb is described and rated for its value medicinally and for safety in a uniform and formulamatic way in alphabetic order. This makes this book both concise and incredibly valuable for quick reference. No matter how many times I have read this book I find myself going to it daily for quick information and in this regard it has no equal. The only shortcoming is really by design it excludes "non-herbal" though related information. For instance, you may find information on bromelain, but no reference to using it with quercetin since quercetin is a flavonoid. Duke's newer book on "anti-aging" does take this into account, but it is not neatly or usefully organized for quick reference. Lastly, many books of this type are quite expensive, "The Green Pharmacy" is the exception with new copies available for around $10. and used for around $6. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Dao that can be described is not the real Dao
As an acupuncturist and MD I am certainly interested in ideas about how acupuncture works. But I do not expect someone to tell me that his view of acupuncture is the 'true way' or therefor all other ideas about acupuncture, including the 'meridian' idea and the 'energy' idea are wrong. And that is exactly what Donald Kendall does.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE FUTURE OF INTEGRATED MEDICINE
"Why does anyone care whether Chinese anatomy and physiology are explained as energy flowing through meridians, or by the circulation of blood, nutrients, other vital substances, and vital air (qi) through the vascular system? The answer to that lies in the moral obligation of every practitioner to provide each patient with the latest medical understanding available. The need to continually search for the truth is the most fundamental principle of science and medicine... Research so far shows that the true concepts of Chinese Medicine operate under known physiological principles, involving the complex organization of the neural, vascular, endocrine, and somatic systems, sustained by the circulation of nutrients, vital substances, and oxygen from vital air."
5-0 out of 5 stars WOW- The Best English CM Book in At Least a Decade
I'm an acupuncturist, AND an author who puts Chinese medicine (CM) into layman's terms (see PulseMed.org).One of the most difficult things to explain is "What is qi?" and it's not fun responding to objections that Chinese medicine is unscientific or even occultic.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous Source of Insight
"Coyote Medicine" is a tremendous source of insight and experience within the path of shamanism and health. Dr. Mehl-Madrona's story-telling is magnificent and at times very suspenseful hitting directly on our sensitive health and spiritual issues we face culturally. But, he doesn't give you easy answers, because his path to becoming a healer was very complex. For me, this book opened up parts of my consciousness and answered questions I was asking and some of those I hadn't yet asked. This book was truly a God-sendand I am savoring every word I read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading on Holistic Medicine
This book blew me away.I have reread much of it so many times and bought multiple copies for friends.I have filled the margins of my copy with notes and filled notebooks with essays and thoughts inspired by Dr. Mehl-Madrona's book.It is nothing short of miraculous itself, in addition to describing medical miracles and how they are brought about by spiritual intervention and Native American healing.5-0 out of 5 stars Take the risk and make the leap
Coyote has always been a special animal to me, so the title jumped out at me.The two feathers and physician's symbol on the cover present a beautiful balance. The physician's symbol has the twin serpents and the two wings of the one.In the background is the four, the Mystery.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing--not a quick read
This book is incredible. It's laid out with a lot of charts and pictures to assist what's being said. This is dense and a lot to go through, but I find that going that much in depth help wth unerstanding the complexity of the issues. A lot of material is summarized int his book, and I'd recomend it to anyone. In fact, I had to order two copies--the first copy I ordered went to my mother's house--who liked it so much that I had to order another copy for myself.

Like Dr, Stone's work, this might take a while to get through, but is worth the time.Read a little, meditate on it.This book is worth taking the time to properly digest. Also great for reference, great charts and diagrams.Great information on indian philosophy, polarity therapy, the elements, the gunas, and many other subjects.Highly reccommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Clarification
Please note that Professor JR Worsley was indeed exposed to many teachers in the 1950's. He chose to follow his two teachers who eventually became his masters. They taught only ancient classical five-element acupuncture. He did not embellish or change terms taught to him. His Masters bestowed upon him the title "Master", which carries the honoring duty to teach and present this ancient system to the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars everything you wanted to know about 5 element acupuncture and more
I recently purchased this text at the recommendation of my instructor for a 5 Element course for physician acupuncturists.I have found it to be invaluable to introduce and reinforce the ideas presented in the course. In short--it's excellent.Buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars I've never heard of five element "constitutional" acupuncture
The Hicks, Hicks and Mole book is nothing but a caricature of the beautiful system of medicine practiced over 50 years by Dr. Worsley.I purchased this book with alot of enthusiasm but was soon disappointed, even horrified by some of what I read.As a practitioner, it offered nothing to increase my knowledge of Classical Five Element Acupuncture, and in fact, would sorely mislead anyone wishing to study and practice this medicine.I would hope that students of acupuncture would go directly to the Master's books for information regarding Classical Five Element Acupuncture:Traditional Acupuncture, Volumes 1 and 2, and Volume 3, The Five Elements and the Officials, by J.R. Worsley. All of his books are available through Amazon, are filled with Dr. Worsley's words and the true spirit of his work, and will enrich your practice and life.

New Choices in Natural Healing takes several areas of natural health care and incorporates it by condition. As an example, if you were to turn - alphabetically, of course - to Arthritis, you'd read a short paragraph describing the ailemtn, then a paragraph or two under Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Flower Remedy, Food Therapy, Homeopathy, Hydrotherapy, Imagery, Juice Therapy, Massage, Reflexology, Relaxation and Meditation, Vitamin and Mineral Therapy, and -finally- yoga.

This book has natural remedies for minor ailments (it specifically mentions that if symptoms are severe or persist over an extended period of time you should see a doctor). I have found it very helpful (I figured in the least it can't hurt me). This book is split into 3 parts.

"The Way of QiGong" attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of qi gong, from its history to its applications in healing and improved sexual vigor.Other reviewers have done an adequate job of cataloging the book's strengths and shortcomings, so I'll touch on the one aspect that I haven't seen mentioned: the section on diet and nutrition.

5-0 out of 5 stars The People's Pharmacy by Joe Graedon
This is an excellent reference work. The author defines a5-0 out of 5 stars Every home library should have a copy!
After checking out the Graedon's book, we stocked up on a few items as we headed out of town for a weekend camping trip. One of their recommendations is Alka-Seltzer for bee stings. (We had never heard of this!) When one ofour daughters was unfortunate enough to cross paths with a bee whileidentifying wild flowers, we popped a wet Alka-Seltzer on the site of thesting. She was skeptical, but the pain and swelling was completely gone ina few minutes. We won't go anywhere without Alka-Seltzer this summer and afew of the other home remedies they recommend. Excellent! Everybody needs acopy in their home library.

1-0 out of 5 stars Aspartame (neurotoxin) for osteoarthritis?
The example of a man who consumed a six-pack of diet cola and his arthritis improved by the end of the football game he was watching is hard to believe. I was sick for years from consuming only a small amount of dietcola or NutraSweet in such things as Crystal Lite. When I drank the entirecan of a 12 oz can ofDiet Coke instead of the usual small amount, Ibecame so ill immediately that I had to see a doctor right away. ... Read more
