5-0 out of 5 stars helpful resource for all health issues
Recently, I was diagnosed with renal failure. Immediately after the diagnosis I began a search for cook books and other helpful resources on kidney-friendly diets. I read the section of this book that was on kidney disease and kidney health and fell in love with it immediately. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants to make a change in their life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Food is the original and Best Medicine
This book is an excellent informative book, on how to use food, diet and herbs to get well. Unfortunately in the United States we seem to be lacking in the food education department. With the simplistic, dated food guide pyramid that many of us base "healthy" eating choices on, we still don't know what to eat, to keep us feeling well, and healthy. For example a "grain is a grain" at the base of the pyramid, our starting point, gives us so little information to keep us healthy. Is eating a piece of chemical ladden, processed fluffy white bread the same as eating a piece of luscious, rich whole grain pure bread? According to our Food Guide pyramid it is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Motivation to eat healthy!
"Your body has the ability to heal itself if you just give it a chance.Using food as medicine gives [you] the greatest chance of all to heal....What you eat can either prevent cancer and other chronic illnesses or help cause them....My number one recommendation is to eat a rainbow of fresh fruits and vegetables every day." 5-0 out of 5 stars An empowering find!
I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend of mine, and I am so glad that I did! While other health-related books can cross the line from insightful to pedantic, Dr. Loop managed to provide impactful, practical and inspirational information without overwhelming me with technical jargon or abstract medical theory. I appreciated the fact that his advice and insight appealed not only to my need for sound information, but to my desire for a self-empowering approach to dealing with disease. I recommend this book not only to those batteling cancer, but those batteling self-destructive mindsets as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone must read this book!!
As someone who has experienced cancer first-hand in my family, Dr. Loop has done a great job of empowering the reader. His knowledge of the human body enables cancer patients to change their traditional view of cancer to a more enlightened perspective. He ultimately emphasizes that you have the power to take back your health from those that profit from disease.Dr. Loop's nutritional and psychological insight unlocks the secret to boost the immune system, whileallowing the body to ultimately heal itself. --Thank you Dr. Loop!

5-0 out of 5 stars I feel enlightened and so thankful I bought this.
I don't normally write reviews but I felt it extremely necesary to do so about this book. After reading "Cracking the Cancer Code," I have an overwhelming sense of gratitude for Dr. Loop for writing this book.It provides a new insight that is a wake up call for everyone that's ever had to deal with cancer or know's someone who has. I now know what I need to do to avoid it and how I can help others as well. I'm giving this book as a gift to many people that are looking for answers. Cancer is not something that will ruin your life, you just have to know how to take control of it, and this book shows you how. Thank you Dr. Loop for pointing out all of the misconceptions we've all been told and helping us to realize there is a way to beat this!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Done, but Definitely Not a "Self-Help" Manual
Weintraub certainly knows his way around the body. I am moderately well versed in medical terminology and anatomically I am fairly astute having studied both in college and independently. I work in a medical laboratory. The man (orwoman) on the street will be quickly left in the wake of unfamiliar terms. Further, his knowlege does nottranslate well if you're looking for a way to heal yourself...The chapter titled "Self Help Strategies" runs to all of seven pages. Neither, does the book offer any clues as to how to contact a practitioner versed in his methods (he seems to be the only one), nor does it contain any contact information for the author. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not usefulwithout MANY CEUs
I'm a licensed massage therapist (3 years) and massage instructor at a local school. When I bought this book, I thought I'd come away with some practical information that I could apply to my practice immediately.Well, after reading it I don't feel that at all.In fact, I feel that it may be another 10 years before I can become proficient in all the modalities that Weintraub combines to achieve his reported results.Among the courses I'll need to certify in are Acupressure, myofascial release, Body-Mind Centering and visceral manipulation. He's been doing this for 30+ years and I don't feel he has been able to write a book that can teach this method, though he successfully describes the myriad skills needed to practice it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The meaning response
Daniel Moerman places the words "Placebo effect" in quotations because he believes that the placebo effect should be redefined.A placebo, he explains is inert. It has no causal effect.A more appropriate definition of the placebo effect he asserts is the "meaning response."
5-0 out of 5 stars Meaning, not placebo: Moerman gets it right!
As a family physician and behavioral scientist with strong interest in the "placebo effect", I can say without reservation that this is one of the best all-around reviews available. The "placebo paradox"has confounded reductionist thinkers for decades: if there is nothing in the pill, then how can it cause health effects?Dan Moerman doesn't have to take us far out of the conventional box to show that - of course - it isn't the inert pills, but instead the meanings attached with them that have influenced outcomes in so many scientific experiments.Meaning, belief and understanding govern how we think and feel, which in turn effect our physical and psychological health.Empty colored pills, sham surgery and suggestion lead to real health effects, even under the most rigorous of settings: randomized, double-blind, controlled trials. While reasonably comprehensive and highly accurate, this book is also accessible, as it is written with a style and flair that should prove attractive to most readers.Highly recommended it is!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The only "how-to" lomilomi book
Nancy's book is the only "how-to" book on lomilomi. It contains pictures and a step-by-step protocol to follow for a complete treatment. The book is also valuable in providing pictures and biographies of many of the kupuna (elders) active in the latter part of the 20th century. There is a lot of information about lomilomi in the larger context of Hawaiian healing. As the editor of Na Mo'olelo Lomilomi: The Traditions of Hawaiian Massage and Healing, I quoted from Nancy's book extensively and found it an invaluable guide to lomilomi as practiced today.

5-0 out of 5 stars God's Grace spoken in every word!!
I think all three of the previous reviews for this book have merit. However, I read this book in 1997 when it came out and have been giving it to every nurse, minister, psychologist, psychiatrist, and physician with whom I come into contact professionally. The aspect of the patients/parishioners not knowing the results of medical tests or what will God think of the outcome of his/her health results and how those will bring reexaminging of his own life is revealed in this book. EXCELLENT!! I loved this book as an avid patient, client, friend, and author.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautifully written and covers very important information.
This is a wonderful book -- written with compassion, insight, and grace.Every physician and other health care professional could benefit from reading this -- and their patients, in turn, will benefit as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for health care professionals and lawyers!
This book was wonderful! A must for medical students, law students and both lawyers/doctors.Puts the reality of the true duty of a "professional" into perspective.Truly a delight. Unquestionably a five star book. Dr. Sulmasy catches the essence of what ismissing in the current debate on the role of the health care professional. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What Healing is All About
Facets of a Diamond is an incredible book that looks honestly, intelligently and profoundly at the roles ofhealer and patient, and more importantly, at the underlying motivation of man.
5-0 out of 5 stars An inspiring collection
In the past, Dr. Diamond has on the whole confined himself to one major area of interest in each of his books. In the Life Energy in Music series he focuses on various aspects of music, The Healer: Heart and Hearth is concerned mainly with the role of the therapist or healer, Re-Mothering and its Experience examines the importance of our relationships with our mothers, and so on.In Facets of a Diamond, however, Dr. Diamond draws together all the aspects of his life and the experiences that make him the therapist that he is.But, more than being just an auto-biography, this book introduces us to the possibility that we are all therapists, whatever our profession or station in life. After reading this book I felt inspired to consider how my choices and decisions are determining the pattern of my own life, and how I can best develop and manifest my own philosophy day by day.5-0 out of 5 stars Multifaceted indeed.
Dr. Diamond has written a book which covers a wide range of the areas to which he has turned his attention over many years. His work is indeed multifaceted and beneficial to both specialist readers from a range of disciplines as well as the general reader looking for further insight into his/her life. One of the most intriguing aspects of Dr. Diamond's writing is his focus on how insights and information are presented. His intention is to make the writing itself therapeutic and this intention, and its effect on the individual, is obvious and immediate as one dips into this book.Dr. Diamond writes with intensity and enthusaism as well as humour and compassion. This is truly a book which approaches healing and health holistically and with real concern for the sufferings, physical or psychological, more or less obvious, of others. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely, a must read for anyone even considering medicine
I was assigned this book in an East/West compartive medical class for College, and everybody loved it not just as a literary work but guide to life. Lown shares an ability with Dr. Andrew Weil in that his compassionate and balanced philosophies on life and medicine are backed up and validated by hisscientific knowledge. This book is just as much official text as it is commentary. Most anyone with an interest or passion in medicine or the healing arts would find enrichment from "The Lost Art of Healing."

5-0 out of 5 stars Helping physicians recapture their focus
I bought a copy for myself, and now I am trying to give a copy to everybody I know who is involved in patient care. Most of us went into the medical field with noble aspirations to take care of others and in doing so, to grow ourselves as human beings. The process of going through a medical education debases in many respects our initial aspirations.I read this book and found myself recentered.Dr. Lown approaches medicine as an opportunity to glean from the people for whom he cares. The book is filled with anecdotes gathered from decades of doctoring. The stories lead the reader along the same journey that the author has taken in coming to a sense of himself as a healer. The characters whom have filled his life are interesting and the story of Dr. Lown's personal journey from medical student, to researcher to teacher and master clinician, is fascinating.I highly recommend this book.It has changed the way that I approach my work and given me a zest for opportunities to grow in this profession.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspirational work for Aspiring Medical Students
In a profession dominated increasingly by science and technology, it is heartening to hear a courageous voice who spoke forcefully and emphatically against the dehumanization of medicine and for the urgent need to return to the traditional ethos of medicine. This coming no less from a physician of Dr Lown's stature and credentials, a technological wizard who had given the world the first cardioverter and DC defribillator. and yet managed to stay aloof and above the lure of medical scientific and technical sophistry which had captured the awe and fantasy of many of today's medical students and doctors alike. Debunking the myth of the omnipotence of clinical medicine, Dr Lown sought to reconcile the divide between the art and science of medicine, advocating a more humane approach towards the management of patients. He is both a philosopher and a healer, equipped with an open mind and divergent mindset extending beyond the normal confines of medical practice. As a young medical student struggling with the heavy workload imposed by an explosion of medical scientific knowledge, Dr Lown's book is thought-provoking and inspiring, a timely reminder that knowledge and academic grades are merely a means to an end and that human qualities such as empathy, compassion and a sound understanding of the human condition is not only crucial in medical practice, but must be reinforced and developed in the impressionable medical student navigating through rigors and constraints of his studies and training. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Role of Spirituality and Religion in Health
Many eminent physicians have resolutely held to the belief that spirituality has no place in health care. Some have gone on to say that spirituality and religious belief are nothing more than superstitions that should remain the responsibility of churches mosques and temples. I think that they are profoundly wrong. There is an increasingly large band of clinicians writing about the role of spirituality in healing, and we have now been joined by Siroj Sorajjakool, who is a Thai-born professor of religion, psychology and counseling at Lorma Linda University.

5-0 out of 5 stars I RECOMMEND 'BIO-ETHERIC HEALING'
Of all the good books about healing I have read I believe this enlightened work, `Bio-Etheric Healing,' is at the topmost branch ofthe alternative healing tree.Author Trudy Lanitis made four new discoveries whenbringing to fruition 'Bio-Etheric Healing.' (1) "The breakthrough ofDIRECT communication with the Etheric Body. (2) The newknowledge that theEtheric Body IS ACTIVELY INTERESTED in maintaining the health of thePhysical Body and is eager to help do so. (3) The new knowledge thattheEtheric Body is able to provide some useful DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION, whenasked. (4) The newknowledge that the Etheric Body is able to ORGANIZE andDIRECT ALL OF THE OTHER PLAYERS (the Chakra System, the other layers of theAura, et cetera) to do the necessary healing. However, it does not take theinitiative on this, but is happy to respond to request for healing actionsfrom us directly."An original model for communicating withone's own Aura, and Etheric Body, is thoroughly presented in this workalong with easy to understand procedures. The author's model explains howto understand thought processes and methods for using the subtle energiesof theAura. Also, I learned howtraumas, actions, and mental states inpresent and past lives, producing negative life situations, can be healed.Trudy Lanitis guides us along an elevated path including nutrition, centering, and how the Etheric Body can contact and monitor the differentbodily energy centers. And it's wonderful to learn that communicating withthe Etheric Bodies of others can help with their healing processes. Idiscovered instructions about how to work with karma to overcome bad luckand realize goals.Anyone interested in developing these skills, forhealing and creating a rewarding reality, can enter today upon the path of'Bio-Etheric Healing.' 5-0 out of 5 stars Bio-Etheric Healing A Breakthrough in Alternative Therapies

5-0 out of 5 stars The best patient is the educated patient
Facing the prospect of a cervical spine fusion, I wanted all the information I could find. Dr Filler's book is a very easy and enjoyable read. The book has general chapters on spine health, conditions and diseases that may necessitate surgery, and diagnostic and surgical procedures. Dr Filler then dedicates chapters to specific conditions and specific areas of the spine. He concludes with postoperative considerations and the future. I'm no stranger to major surgery. This is the best book of its kind that I have read. I shared the book with family members. It helped me understand my condition and better communicate with my surgeon.

5-0 out of 5 stars For those you want a better understanding of their spine conditions
This is an excellent book for those who want to be in control of their health. I run a specialist clinic, Core Concepts, for back pain in Singapore. For our patients that want to have a thorough understanding of their condition and treatment options, we strongly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read ... Thorough Information
I am facing major back surgery soon and this book was invaluable...it provided me with a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the spine and the details of the surgery which I will have.It is easy for a layman to understand and you can skip to the chapters that are appropriate for your particular ailment.I have already recommended it to two of my friends who also have severe back problems. It should be on the "MUST READ" list of anyone who has a back problem, no matter how large or small. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read on "What do I say?"
I LOVE this book.I'm a hospice nurse, and fairly comfortable talking with people who are facing their own death, but this is by far the best thing I've read on the topic.Besides being a wonderful, accessible writer, Jeff Kane is funny, wise, and practical. He's obviously done his own spiritual work, and his book shows that.I looked forward to every chapter, each of which seemed to answer a question I'd barely known to ask, and to answer it in a way that has helped me immensely in my practice, as well as in dealing with people in my own life who are dealing with things we wish weren't happening.Get it.Read it.Read it again. I'm on my second copy.
