A Major Contribution to the Emerging World View
Having recently read and strongly recommended Larry Dossey's latest book, I have been re-reading some his earlier books. This one is similarly excellent.
For the believer...
If you are a believer in prayer or any paranormal phenomena, or if you want to believe, then this book is for you.It represents a well written scholarly survey of the field of non-local consciousness citing many published research activities, all referenced through an impressive bibliography.
Understanding the Relationship between the Mind and the Body
Larry Dossey's book presents its readers with a new and unique theory of how prayer will be able to influence the health of our body.He begins his book with a brief overview of the three different Eras of medicine.Era I deals with mechanical, material, or physical medicine and Era II deals with mind-body medicine, which may include any form of therapy where the body treats itself and only itself through psychosomatic methods.In this book, Dossey adds to this list by suggesting the possibility of an Era III, called eternity medicine.He suggests that individuals can affect patients from a distance, called "intercessory prayer."The mind, separate from the brain, has the ability to transverse space and time.He backs up his argument with ample evidence from Harvard, Duke, and other prestigious institutions.Each experiment builds upon the next, reinforcing the principles and theories of Dossey.Read more

Wasn't what I was looking for...
This book was not what I was looking for.The first third of the book rehashes the benefits of natural living and offers information that is of little value to anyone who has even a cursory knowledge of such things.The actual method for detoxing was broken into three levels which would seem easy to follow, but the book is terribly disorganized.There were three types of detox: body, mind, spirit.It would be much more helpful to systematically organize the book using the levels rather than the different types of detox. Get The Junk Out!

A healthy perspective on health
This is a wonderful little book that takes a different slant on your health, one bias in NLP techniques. Even if you are not familiar with NLP, the authors give enough material here that is a worthwhile read with enough evidence to take your mind outside traditional wisdom. If you are a practitioner of NLP, don't overlook this little gem. Some of this is repeat, but some of the techniques are quite nice or explained more resourcefully.

Rehabilitation Medicine: Principles and Practice
An important book to have available for reference when caring for persons with disabilities. All types of neurologic and musculoskeletal problems are well covered in this comprehensive text.

not very practical
Everyone seems to buy this book as a reflex, but I hardly have used it in the last year I've had it as a PMR resident.It can be helpful sometimes when preparing a brief topical discussion, but it is not specific enough in terms of what should be done clinically.It's so big it's difficult to take it anywhere with you if you need to study for the boards.

Healing Makes Our Hearts Happy is a beautifully written and photographed book of the Jul'hoansi people of the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. Not only does the book give an excellent description of the history andculture of this society but also gives strong support to anyone who isstriving to live as their hearts direct. I appreciated the style ofintimacy with which this book is written.It is easy to find a level offamiliarity with the members of this society as the authors weave theirstories into a whole picture of a culture.The complex healing ritualsperformed by these healers were made understandable through their storiesand photographs. The threat of extinction of this important part of theculture of the African people and all people is well presented by thisexample of the Jul'hoansi.We are all effected positively and negativelyby the rapid, deep influences of technology.Healing Makes Our HeartsHappy is a work that leads us once again to a place of sensitivityconcerning this inevitable struggle of conscousness. Life saver for my child with Autism
When my child was at 18 months of age, the pediatricians said she may have Autism. The neurologist and ped Psychologist confirmed the same. Peds suggested "Early Intervention", neurologist suggested "Sleep aids", Psychologist suggested "Behavioral Therapy", but all said "there is no medical/biomedical remedy". Then a noble friend recommended this book. We followed just 3 of many good recommendations in the book. This changed not only life of my kid, but all of the family. My message to medical community in US: "Have an open mind, be innovative in thinking, logical and balanced. Don't let corporate pharmas spoonfeed you and influence your thinking." Qudos to Dr.McCandles for her brave adventure.

A MUST READ FOR PARENTS FIGHTING AUTISM
I have been fighting autism for over eight years.My daughter has made significant progress, but still has a way to go.I wish that this book had been available when we first started out.It is a concise guide to the current biomedical treatments that are being used successfully in fighting against autism today.It is absolutely the #1 book that I recommend to other parents to read, especially newcomers or people that are interested, but don't have loads of time to search for information.I have a deep and abiding respect for Dr. McCandless and her openness to share herself so unselfishly with all the parents that bombard her with questions.I am looking forward to the new edition of this book!! Don't wait - get this book, start reading and make your plan!
