5-0 out of 5 stars Essential info for all Eye Doctors
I practice Nutritional Optometry (educate my patients on any and all supplements that are beneficial for their particular disease, or family history of disease). This book gives the reader an exceptional overview on the do's and dont's of nutrition as pertaining to the eye.1-0 out of 5 stars A misleading title providing false hope
I suffer from Macular Degeneration and bought the book, hoping to find, as the title suggests, a way to reverse the disease. There was no proven cure in the book. Plus, the book has only one chapter on MD, not the whole bookas might be construed from the title. Millions of Americans suffer from MDfor which there is no definite cure. The title is a good sales booster.People like me who have been told by numerous physicians that there is nocure, will buy the book. If you are a patient of MD, eat a lot of bilberry, antioxidants and lutein( found in leafy greens like spinach) and most ofall, pray. God made us and He only can cure; we can only try, it is He thatcan make it happen.

1-0 out of 5 stars snake oil for a vulnerable community
The theme: that nutrition ought to accompany any medical regime, is sound. But the silly sixties warnings about "processed foods" and other health food myths make one wonder if this is a book designed to make a buck for the authors rather than to help those with vision problems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Of The Bunch
I've been using energy tapping for several years.I went through two of Gary Craig's courses, then began buying books on the subject for further (and different) information.Gloria Arenson's book is simply the best. The reviews here cover most of what I was going to say, so I'll just add a paragraph.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Self Help Book I'll NEED!
In my life I have had many ups and downs. From seeing my life flash before my eyes when i choked on a corn dog...to now being a needy man who has a passion for female self help books. I picked this up to change my life and what do u know it has. Now after being released from the asylum i will never need a self help book again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your cash ...
Its like so often in "real" life - some dude has an insight and doesn't get it that he does not need to bent science and common sense in order to construct a new world-view (or, in this case almost a religion with the inventor as the savior) around it. I have used "tachyon" products - they work for selected issues (mostly muscle and tendon problems). Truth is, nobody knows on what principle this stuff works - but rather than being honest and admitting it a hair-raising new world-view is invented with quotes from "real" science to support it not only out of context but also WRONG. The latest I have heard is that Mr. Wagner, the top honcho, has now become a professor in his self-made university (no joke, check his webiste!). I was personaly witnessof Wagner's dishonesty on more than one occasion and can only suggest to stay away from him. This book contains no valuable information whatsoever.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you're avoiding the essentials, you'll try anything.
Drink only pure, unfluorided water, eat only whole fresh raw fruits and vegetables, exercise every day, get some morning or late afternoon sun everyday, and get enough sleep and rest. If this doesn't help, -then- start looking for the wierdo cures if you must, but nothing will undo the problems of the Modern Western Lifestyle exceptno longer living the MWL. I think Gabe must have been fasting a little too long when he wrote this book. Fantasy. To those who testify here on behalf of Tachyon products: I've happened upon a few 'Tachyonized' items, and gave them a try...nothing happened. Your results are the exception, not the rule.

1-0 out of 5 stars High-Tech Pet Rock
I think a tachyon exists, and I am excited about the idea, but there is no evidence of a patent on Tachyonization Process, and no evicende that the aura pictures are even real.If the technology worked, there would be a patent for it, the FDA would make them do trials, and it would take a year to get it onto shelves and into hospitals. Here's a pet rock that's an antenna for Tachyonized energy--someone's got to do the proof. I do not recommend Tachyonized products--especially the 15 drops of Tachyonized Water (from sugar). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good information -- but do your own research!.......
At first blush most of the information if acted on in the book will probably result in adding years, if not decades to some peoples lives. My own recommendation is to do your own independent research [separate from this book], first, if you make any life changing adjustments, particularly if it involves consuming vitamins suggested in the book. Some of the recommendations only strengthened what I already knew, such as taking Co-Q10 on a daily basis.Co-Q10 is expensive, but a very good nutrient that can help protect your body from free radical damage, resulting in reduced risks of succumbing to various cancers and heart diseases.Other recommendations in the book did raise some concerns for me such as consuming L-Carnosine on a daily basis.Research i've found dating back to 1984 expressed that L-Carnosine built up in the body can potentially have dangerous neurotoxic side effects.Taking too much of it could induce what is medically referred to as "Carnosinemia", which also can be inherited. Most of the oral vitamin supplements in the market offer L-Carnosine at 500MG doses, recommending you take it once or twice daily. The book recommends 200MG per day in single or "divided doses" and stressed "its low level of toxicity"...... but I don't know how much is too much frankly, so I will avoid this particular molecule until more research data is known.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Guide To The Life-Extension Revolution!
Over the years I have read several health oriented books promoting ideas for healthier and longer lives for us, this one is by far the best, containing down-to-earth advice of a practical and far reaching nature. Many areas are covered, including supplements from arginine to zinc, social issues, and lots of other topics. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Eye Opener
With a title like, "The Baby Boomers' Guide To Living Forever," it would be easy to pass over this book with the assumption that it is a journey into some sort of medical never-never land. But as I quickly discovered, this is far from the case. "The Baby Boomers' Guide" shapes as an absolutely fascinating, at times scholarly, tour of what middle age America can do to improve both the quality and quantity of life. Dr. Grossman covers a remarkable spectrum of topics and, with support from co-authors who are experts in each of dozens of medical/health areas, provides an astonishing treasure of useful information. This is one of those rare books that can literally change the course of the reader's life. "Baby Boomers' Guide" is must reading for anyone who is serious about extending their years, perhaps beyond anything that they ever imagined was possible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a lifesaver.
I bought this book a few months ago becuase I've been showing symptoms of endometriosis and also have fibroids.I used her herbal formulas and castor oil packs as recommended and my symptoms have improved dramatically.I would recommend this to any woman who's having "female trouble".We really can take our health care into our own hands, contrary to what doctors would have us think....

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all women who use herbal remedies
Rosemary Gladstar is a highly respected herbalist. Here she has provided a very useful book that will be enjoyed by any woman interested in herbal remedies.Unlike similar books, this one is appropriate for the novice and the experienced herbalist.Well written and beautiful, this will be a welcome addition to your bookshelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasure!
This book is a pleasure to read and a gem for every woman concerned for her health. As an acupressure practitioner I find Rosemary Gladstar's advice invaluable, and her recipes and herbal suggestions complement nicely my books on Chinese herbs. The teas, tinctures and salves are easy to make, and the explanations are clear and knowledgeable. The Materia Medica at the end of the book is extremely useful. I particularly enjoyed Ms. Goldstar's suggestions for younger women's skin problems, have made - without any problems and with common kitchen appliances - the range of facial prducts described in the book, and am enjoying them immensely. Not only are they better than any commercial brand of skin care (because they only contain the best and purest products) but one has the satisfaction of taking an active role in caring for her own health and beauty. Even if you already own several herbal books, do not miss this one. It will become your favorite! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the book!
This book is very useful for preventative measures. It makes you think about how your body talks and reveals the weaknesses years before problems appear. If one has the courage to follow its suggestions, then one has a chance not to become a statistic of cancer, heart disease or diabetes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Valuable Aid for Cell Salt selection
This book would be extremely helpful for healthcare workers. The excellent color photographs illustrate clearly how one recognizes stressed areas of the face, ears and skin that indicate deficiencies of Cell Salts. Supplementing with the easily obtainable Cell Salts can help improve health, which in turn can be relected in the facial features.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent companion to Hands of Light
This book has the personal touch and lay explanations that Hands of Light is missing (it's a great book as well, but much more scientific, which I appreciate as well). The stories of the author's personal experiences with each modality are helpful and leave me eager to try it myself. Not so simple that experienced people won't enjoy it, but not so technical that people just starting their journey would be intimidated. I like that it covers many modalities and gives an overview of each. It even includes a chart for sound therapy. Pretty cool book. I got it from the library, but had to order a copy for my personal library. It's a keeper. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and beautifully presented!
As someone who has always been interested in herbs and gifts from Nature and their uses, I highly recommend this book.It states how gifts from Nature (e.g. plants, fragrant stones, honey etc) that grow in the Middle East, can be used in the kitchen as well as for healing. It also includes some very interesting Middle Eastern culinary recipes.Though the book mostly gives "hand-me-down" information that has been passed down from generation to generation, it does contain some information on whatever scientific studies were conducted on herbs. It gives some insight into ancient cultures that are little known in the West. The book is easy and fun to read. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars how to treat a stye?
I got this book and the one for our kids, my husband woke up with a stye in his eye a couple of days after receiving this book. He wanted to run to the Dr., I asked him to wait and followed the instructions the book provided, i like how it gave us many different ways to treat it. I used the homeopathic way and in a day and a half it was gone, it went from this horrible red, bloodshot eye to normal!!Amamzing, my mainstrean husband was very impressed. I really enjoy this book it gives me the power to heal our aliments in a healthy way and I save on the co-pays at the dr. office:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for home medical library
As a mother of 8 children, I have found this book to be an invaluable asset. This is the first book that I consult for information on symptoms and treatment options. With everything listed in alphabetical order, it's simple to find what you're looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my family medical reference book
Of all the medical books that I have read over the years, this is by far the best book I have seen. It explains the treatment options for all sides, Conventional Medicine, Dietary, Vitamins and Minerals recommendations, Herbal Treatment, Homeopathy, Accupressure, and Prevention. It is a pretty large, thick book with average sized text and little wasted space. It has a great deal of information and they do an excellent job of presenting the information. Most other books seriously fail in one of several areas: Accuracy and depth of information, ability to present the information in an easily understandable form, and ability to present the information in an applicable form. Many other books fail to mention herbs or vitamins that I know to have benefit for a particular ailment, while mentioning other herbs or vitamins that in my experience have little or no effect on an ailment. This book is the most accurate book I have yet to see, based on my own experience with herbs and vitamins, and online research. This book has an excelent organization, it presents the information as 'treatments' for each ailment or disease. The book breaks down each of the treatment options in their own subsections underneath each ailment or disease. By ailment or disease I mean it covers not only allergies, heartburn, insomnia, and stress, but it also lists Diabetes, Cirrhosis, HIV, Meningitis, Osteoporosis, Fibromyalgia, Hepatitis, and Rosacea among many other diseases. For each and every ailment or disease, it typically has a half-page general overview of each disease (what the disease is, how it works), and then it has the treatment sections (Conventional Medicine, Dietary/Vitamins, Herbal Treatment, and Homeopathy and Accupressure, etc). The information presented in each of the sections is very understandable (you do not need a PHD to understand it). I have been using herbs for different ailments for years, and I based my usage of particular herbs on information that I found scattered among many different books or references. I found the herbal treatment information in this book to be very complete. In my experience, most books tend to mention a few of the 'best' herbs for a particular ailment and ignore the rest. This book lists very nearly ALL the applicable herbs and vitamins for any particular ailment, and for each herb it usually gives a quick explanation of WHY and HOW the herb works to help that particular ailment. You may find that a particular herb helps you for a particular ailment, whereas others may not. I believe it's important to list all of the herbal remedies that have been known to help a particular ailment, so that you can try for yourself to find what works. Each herb has its own paragraph and dosage recommendation under each treatment. If garlic is listed under one ailment, it is still listed under other ailments, but they do not 'copy and paste' the paragraphs - each time care is taken to explain what mechanism the herb has for helping that particular ailment/disease. This book is not an 'herb' reference like most other books, it can be used as such because the detail is so great, but the herbal information is presented under each and every ailment - so it's organization is more like a treatment reference for ailments. This book is an excellent reference for general ailments like allergies, headaches, and other problems but I urge anyone with specific medical health problems to read this book and try some of the herbal remedies. The book also discusses Dietary and Vitamin and Minerals recommendations for each ailment/disease. This book is comprehensive and the treatment recommendations are presented in an unbiased fashion. There is also a version of this book specifically for children's ailments/diseases. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book lead me in the right direction towards enlightenment. It is ideal for the black aspirant of complete health (wholistic), while good for people of all races. It covers a wide variety of material concerning holistic health, human existance, psychology, behaviour, and also differnces between races. One might read this book and think that L.Afrika is racist, but the concept of racism is an illusion of the mind imposed unto us by our own ignorance of Self, and backed by a corrupt system of injustice.
1-0 out of 5 stars Recipe almost KILLED me
I borrowed this book from a friend. Read it thoroughly. Some of the information is valid (vitamins to take, foods to eat or avoid). Other opinions are old world wive's tales i,e., menstruation is not natural. OK, I can ignore the stupid stuff (although there shouldn't be stupid stuff in a book for Black people who already suffer as medical guinea pigs). What I found and EXPERIENCED as very dangerous is one recipe in particular - on page 72 (of the revised and expanded 7th edition) under the heading "Anthelmentic Enemas (gets rid of worms)." It calls for 1-2 CUPS of salt mixed with lemon or lime juice (no amt given), with warm water (no amt given). I used 1 cup of salt with a 1/4 cup of lemon juice in a hot water bottle of warm water. I administered the enema and within 15 minutes my body went into shock. Severe pain in legs and feet, lower back and stomach with vomiting and bleeding from the rectum. I drove myself to the emergency room. I was immediately admitted. A colonoscoopy revealed that the salt and lemon juice mixture had caused perforations in my colon! Had the perforations penetrated the outer wall of my colon I could have died from peritonitis (they told me). Here I am in the hospital 3 days later and the bleeding is still an issue. I am on a bland diet awaiting a follow-up colonoscopy (in 30 days) to see if the damage has healed or left scarring. My "new" gasteroenterologist said, "Throw that @#%*@*! book away!"I will give it back to the party who loaned it to me with red X's across the enema recipes whether they like it or not. This book has BAD INFORMATION. And in my opinion, if you only crash your car once a month, you still aren't considered a good driver on the other 29 days!
5-0 out of 5 stars ancient future
Depending on who you are and what you know, the information contained in this book is either real ancient or real futuristic. For example, did you know that bowling, cards, see-saws were not really games at all,... that they are really devices for developing spiritual and improving physical health? Did you know that depending on the day of the week and the colors you wear, your health can be helped. And that different types of scented oils can bring peace and tranquility to a household depending on the day of the week.

Editorial Review

There are so many different kinds of bodywork available these days, many people find it hard to choose. Massage therapist and health writer Mirka Knaster's comprehensive book is a good place to start. She covers just about everything in both the Eastern and Western traditions--from various types of yoga, martial arts, and massage to newer practices such as Rolfing and the Alexander Technique to esoteric movement and touching practices of which most people have never even heard. The one thing all these techniques have in common is that they seek to bring healing and self-discovery through physical practices. "Many people first turn to bodyways because the pain of an injury or chronic condition forces them to seek alternatives," Knaster writes. "The other motivation ... comes from a natural drive toward healthy or optional functioning." Either way, she says, these practices help us overcome our disconnection from our body and our feelings.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wise, compassionate look at consciousness & healing
Larry Dossey is a prolofic writer and researcher on holistic healing, and in this book he assembles a number of articles and essays in support of a cohesive concept.Dossey invites the reader to explore the power of consciousness for healing transformation. The different sections in the book sometimes refer to scientific theories and research, some of which would usually be considered in the realm of parapsychology, such as remote influencing, healing with prayer, non-local telepathic communication, etc. However, the focus is more on how these concepts can be applied in our lives to bring about healing.Dossey helps us peer beyond the veil of illusion we call "reality" to help us connect with the source of our being and the power of mind/consciousness to transform.Having practiced mind-body/enegy medicine approaches such as hypnosis, reiki, and neuromodulation technique, I have experienced the power of the non-local consciousness to create healing shifts in a manner that would appear magical or unbelievable to those convinced of the solid, objective nature of perceived reality. It is much easier to "bend spoons" when one lets go of the illusion that there is any objective spoon in the first place!Enjoy this book and begin to put into practice the ideas and methods that unlock the power of consciousness.

5-0 out of 5 stars NEW DEFINITION OF CONCIOUSNESS
This collection of essays examines how thoughts and emotions affect our bodies and the bodies of others at a distance. It is an insightful look at the relationship between science and "unscientific" topics like prayer, love, laughter, work, creativity, dreams and more, an examination of consciousness and spirituality in medicine. Everybody knows that something vital is missing in modern allopathic medicine - the role of the human mind. The author points out the deep level of ignorance within science about the origin, function and destiny of human consciousness. But at last we are moving toward a vision of consciousness that liberates the mind from its identification with the physical brain and body. Of course, the implications for medicine are vast. He refers to the ideas of Jung, Ken Wilber, Erwin Schrdinger, David Bohm and Rupert Sheldrake and makes a valid case for the fact that our power to heal and be healed extends beyond our physical bodes. The essays fall into the three categories Meaning, Mind and Nonlocality, and the book concludes with a bibliography, a section on sources and an index. This is a classic and I recommend it to all who are interested in holistic or spiritual healing and those want to take responsibility for their own health.

5-0 out of 5 stars The mystery of life
Larry Dossey discusses the mystery of life and how consciousness is related to all of the physical things in the world. He does a superb job in explaining the wonders of the soul. Although is work is always inspiring, this book is especially so. It tells us that everything including consciousness is connected in a convincing way. For another astonishing book with a slightly different take on the subject, I'd highly recommend "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato. It is also a tremendously insightful book! ... Read more
