This is a professional (but easily readable) monography. It is very comprehensive and can be used as both a textbook and a handbook. The author is a well-known expert on the subject and he conveys his knowledge to the reader.Among the many books available, this one is the likeliest to be "the only one you must have if you can afford only one". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Surprised me
I didn't know until this CD that I didn't think I deserved money. When Glenn talked about being comfortable with money and deserving it, I started getting anxious. This was a real surprise to me.He's really great at what he does.I highly recommend his CDs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective and relaxing way to overcome your abundance issues.
The multilayered therapeutic audible suggestions in Glenn's deep, resonating voice, the post hypnotic subliminal suggestions, and the perfectly timed music all provide a fast, effective means of relaxing you physically and mentally. This allows for the breaking up of any blocks you have centered around the issues of abundance, success, and wealth potential. I could feel an attitude shift and a psychological millstone removal after just one listen to both segments and these feelings only increase with each use. Highly recommended to anyone with similar issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD!
This is one of the best hypontherapy cds I have. The british voice is very relaxing and the music is beautiful. One side guides you through a tour of your dream car and dream home. There are affirmations that pan from one ear to another and slowly fade away. Both side one and two are 24 minutes long. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Approach to Therapy
This book is easy to understand, and has a great collection of case histories. If you are a therapist this book is a must. Gil Boyne is a master and it shows through in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Important Learning Text
One of the textbooks in my Clinical Hypnotherapy course. I recommend it to therapists who want to see how a highly skilled old-time guy like Gil does some pretty slick work. I could not have understood what he was doing, though, without having seen him on video. It helps, too, to be already familiar with instant inductions. Not for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Innovative Blend of Gestalt & Hypnotherapy
A superb text, it mainly consists of transcriptions of live therapy demonstrations with Boyne's explanatory comments throughout. The last section contains very concise and to the point advice on specific interventions and general maxims for the therapist.Gestalt dialogue and sentence stemming is the natural development of hypnotic regression therapy and Boyne demonstrates perfectly how to combine these two approaches into a form of advanced hypnotic insight therapy, which he cleverly calls "transforming therapy" (i.e., "trance-forming therapy"!)The tape is an excellent programming script for self-hypnosis and for improving your performance as a hypnotherapist. This book is an essential addition to any hypnotherapists library, and if you are still doing regression therapy in the classic style of Freud and Breuer, DON'T, learn how to vastly and easily improve your technique by introducing Gestalt dialogue, shuttling and sentence completion.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A useful resource of hypnotic inductions
This book is a well-done compilation of induction techniques that can serve as models for practicing hypnotherapists. It is thoughtfully organized and a useful reference and learning tool.I was surprised by the review by "David Burns, Ph.D." who feels that hypnosis is unethical in psychotherapy.I put the name in quotes because I'm not sure whether that is his or her real name.Anyone with a Ph.D. in psychology would know that hypnosis is a well-validated and widely accepted medical technique. One would have to wonder where "David Burns" got his Ph.D. to be so unaware of the research evidence on hypnosis.Hartland's textbook Medical and Dental Hypnosis is well documented and gives references to countless studies showing its effectiveness in medical practice. As a psychiatrist who has used hypnosis as a tool in my practice for 30 years, I have found it to be an invaluable adjunct to both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. If anything is unethical, it is depriving patients of a valuable tool because the therapist has a personal bias, ungrounded in scientific evidence, against hypnosis.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent manual ... if you know what you're reading.
When we take into consideration what this book is supposed to be, that is, a guide to deeper and more productive inductions, the Handbook fills this niche very well.4-0 out of 5 stars Handbook of Hypnotic Inductions
The encyclopedic nature of this text shows a careful and complete overview of the field in addition to the practical applications gleaned from years of actual use of these methods. This book a must-have for the practitioner looking to enhance their therapeutic techniques.Read more

Editorial Review

Now that the popularity of alternative medicine has made justabout everyone aware of the health connection between mind and body, itseems like a fine time to bring back this book, originally written bythe late psychiatrist Caprio and newly revised by Caroline Miller, deanof academic studies at the American Institute of Hypnotherapy. To theauthors, self-hypnosis is an ideal way to reach a state of relaxationand concentration that will allow you to send healing messages to yourbody and really get it to listen. The easy-to-follow text includesseveral methods of hypnotic induction, and instructs readers on usingthe process to lose weight, sleep better, overcome depression, improvetheir sex lives, slow the aging process, and conquer other healthdifficulties that are now widely acknowledged to depend quite a bit onsubconscious mental states. The authors acknowledge that hypnosis isoften misunderstood, and they devote quite a bit of effort toovercoming misconceptions and getting readers to take it seriously as ahealing force. --Ben Kallen, Personal Growth editor ... 1-0 out of 5 stars much too wordy and patronizing
This book is mainly trying to convince the reader that hypnosis isn't bad for you. I happened to assume that already, that's why I bought the book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to read yet very effective
This book was an easier read than many hypnosis books on the market. There are also many relaxation scripts to help get beginners started.I have been exposed to many types of hypnosis practices and I must say that Ilike self-hypnosis the best, but I do feel that some exposure to aprofessional can be very beneficial.I have been using this book as an aidfor about 4 months and I must say the changes are indescribable. I havelost weight (a lot!), become more disciplined in my studies and have a morerewarding relationship with my boyfriend of 4 years. Also, since thesuggestions are my own that I am giving, then I am not as prone to acceptsuggestions from others and as result, I am more aware of negative energyamongst other people and don't take it on.This is a great book and inconjuction with other tools such as relaxation, some exposure to personaltherapy, it can/will have amazing effects and the that is the truth!

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing yourself with self-hypnosis
If you care about yourself and well being, this book is for you! The book is easy to read and enjoyable. You can apply self-hypnosis to almost anything in your daily life. There's no magic in hypnosis, it's all aboutthe positive attitude and response. The book in general has very good tipson how to relax and have a better way to live. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A definitive reference in the field of clinical hypnosis
Hartland's book on hypnosis is a staple in the field. It has gone through many editions, this being the most recent and up-to-date.The information is scholarly, well presented, and clinically very useful. The authors do seem to have an academic bent and a bit of an anti-American bias. They question the importance of Milton Erickson's work and poo poo the NLP literature, while at the same time borrowing many clinical techniques from Erickson and NLP without giving due credit. That minor objection aside, I found this book to be richly clinically relevant and I would recommend it to anyone who uses hypnosis in clincial practice. It is one of the "Bibles" in the hypnotherapeutic literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you want to know and more!
Very well written and easy to follow. Much more than I expected on topics that therapists encounter. Great book for those that are interested in hypnosis and want to learn how it is applied. Excellent for those that arealready practicing. Many scripts alone and how to use them make this bookwell worth the price. No steps left out. I have to keep this in the officeand often return to it for it's valuable information. For start to finishthis is worth it's weight for what you can learn and apply. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starting Point
This book is a really good starting point for a person looking to get involved with the field of clinical hypnosis as Hadley and Staudacher have clearly outlined the basic process. Providing useful inductions and scripts, you could practice with this volume for awhile and then could decide if you wanted to go on to more intensive hands-on practice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight?
Makes for a pleasant albeit bloated read. My impression is that most people would do well beginning with self-hypnosis and many would be fine sticking just to self-hypnosis.Temes' focus seems to be on wide coverage, i.e. showing all the things that hypnosis may help with.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the lay reader!
This book is superb for the average reader, because it tells so much about hypnosis. It does not seem to be intended to teach a lay person HOW to be a hypnotherapist, because for that one has to first be a qualified health professional, such as a psychologist or a physician. So, if one wants to learn a lot ABOUT hypnosis, read this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Hypnosis
If you don't know much about hypnosis, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hypnosis is a great introduction to self-hypnosis and choosing a hypnotist or hypnotherapist. The author dispels many common myths and provides a good historical overview. The portions of the book on self-hypnosis probably aren't comprehensive enough to allow for mastery, but they are certainly a good beginning. The strongest parts of the book deal with addressing common fears associated with being subjected to hypnosis.Like all Idiot's Guides, it is a pleasant and fast-moving book to read...quite enjoyable. ... Quite helful. I gave it 4 stars because the suggestions are similar to the ones in Unleash Your True Potential (by the same author)
5-0 out of 5 stars Survivor of Child Abuse/Molestation
I absolutely recommend this CD. Thinking Positively helped rid me of my negative aspects and bring my positives to the forefront. I am a survivor of child abuse as well as child molestation. The abuse lasted over 10 years from an extremely young age. After coming out of the situation (which was all I knew) I found it hard to feel like anything would go right for me. Counseling wasn't much help. The more I was told it wasn't my fault, the more I felt like people were secretly blaming me. I finally came to a point where life was livable, I was discovering how talented and intelligent I really was, however, I could never convince myself that I could handle the weight of success nor that I was truly worth it. I had pushed people away, didn't like the task of meeting new people, believed everyone in my life had an ulterior motive and frequently became angry with myself. After 12 years of negative thinking and trying everything in my power to free myself of my emotional hell I had read lots of self-help books and decided to try Hypnotherapy. I obviously and quite understandably had trust issues, so I did some research on it first the decided to go with Glenn Harrold. I tried this CD "Learn How to Think Positively". Within the first two weeks I began feeling better about myself and others. Now it's been about two years and I am 'doing' and not 'wishing' or beating myself up for being afraid to try. Thinking positively has helped me to unleash the confident self that was beneath all the negativity. I have also been using the "Energy and Motivation" CD (very pleased as well) and I can say that Glenn Harrold is a voice I now trust (big deal for me) and will be moving on to healing my body with his help. Special thanks and blessings to Glenn and all involved in the making of these CD's. You've helped me change my life and inspired me to help others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Many good insights into mind-body healing
The book explains in great detail the influence and the effect of mind over body from the perspective of neuro-biology.In simple terms, most healing performed with hypnosis are a result of mind influencing the blood-flow, which then creates corresponding changes in the body.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Nuts and Bolts of Hypnosis
This book is technical, but comprehensive and concise in its explaination of what we know about how the "Mind-Body Connection" works. From practical mini-scripts to use clinically to the mathematical formula for hypnosis, this book has it all. A background in neurophysiology is helpful, but those who understand it will truly appreciate the detail.
