Good because of the wide assortment of material it includes
New Choices in Natural Healing takes several areas of natural health care and incorporates it by condition. As an example, if you were to turn - alphabetically, of course - to Arthritis, you'd read a short paragraph describing the ailemtn, then a paragraph or two under Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Flower Remedy, Food Therapy, Homeopathy, Hydrotherapy, Imagery, Juice Therapy, Massage, Reflexology, Relaxation and Meditation, Vitamin and Mineral Therapy, and -finally- yoga.
Over 1800 of the Best Self-Help Remedies from the Worid of Alternative Medicine
I founded the book to be all that I expected and somewhat more. The medical information were easy to find. And the price was somewhat unbelievable at 1 cent. I keep the book handy for quick advice.

I am a writer/editor who endured seven years of carpel tunnel-like symptoms: tingling, pain, weakness, and numbness from both wrists all the way up to my neck. I underwent every possible treatment, mainstream and alternative, but nothing worked. One day, someone who had similar pain told me how she was cured by this book. Detoxing with common sense
This is a good book to read for following your first detox.But I did find that my body needed some protein on the second day.So I added beans to the evening meal of miso the second night and it worked like a charm.This book contains some New Age mumbo-jumbo, but if you follow the dietary plans, you will see some amazing benefits. As the book recommends, I highly recommend you stick with a strict vegi diet the week before your detox to get the most benefits.I started on a Tuesday.By the following Tuesday I had lost 9 pounds and felt so great I hated going off the detox plan. Once you try a couple of different plans in this book, you figure out what works best for you.I invested in a Green Power juicer ..., the kind that juices wheatgrass, and I'm using it like crazy.You can also pick up a book of juicing recipes that will help you find ways to make the juices more delicious.Enjoy! excellent book!

This is a valuable book for the layperson and professional, for the understanding of the complexities and properties of vitamins and minerals. However this book is now 10 years old and showing signs of age, and would benefit from a significant update, as some of the information is no longer applicable.
If you have one book on nutritional supplements, this should be it.
This isn't the latest, but it's the best. If you have one book on nutritional supplements, this should be it. I'd read it before your first, next, or whatever visit to the nutritional supplement store or aisle.

This book has changed my life ...
Brilliant! A practical yet spiritual approach to nourishing one's body and soul. Shatz empowers her readers to acknowledge what many already know deep within themselves relating to food and gives them sound direction on how to move forward to a healthier life. In the weeks since I've read this book my life has become more peaceful, calmer, less chaotic. Yet, I have energy I never knew I had. My sugar and caffeine cravings are gone. They have been replaced by a feeling of complete fulfillment both physically and emotionally. Shatz's book is a true gift to us all.
A "must have" book...
I just finished reading "If the Buddha Came to Dinner".I thoroughly enjoyed it.One reading isn't enough, I find myself paging through it and stopping at certain sections from time to time.I tried a few recipes and really like them.I just ordered it for a friend of mine.The book speaks to your body and soul.

changed my life
I went on the three-week cleanse and have never felt better.Weight loss, while a goal for me, was secondary to how I felt and the concept of nourishing rather than feeding oneself.(I did lose 20 pounds on the 3 week cleanse.)Be warned though - if you choose to cleanse for 3 weeks it requires a time commitment.I found it helpful to actually plan out a week's menu (for shopping, prep and diverisifcation of meals).

Out of Date and Not Evidence Based
This book was published in 1995 (so of course was written in about 1993-94) so its information is very out of date. Since that time technology has introduced the BMD bone density scan, and the pharmaceutical industry has developed and promoted the use of bisphosphonates such as Fosamax and Evista. These two developments alone have rendered this book totally out of date and therefore not useful, in my opinion. Also, the information is not evidence-based, most of his recommendations are based on anecdotal and observed results, rather than on scientific studies. What he has to say is interesting, sometimes even fascinating, but is it accurate? For example, his recommendations on caffeine are based on the result of an "experiment" of giving three cups of coffee to five women. I don't consider that evidence-based medical protocol.
A treasure
This book is excellent and has surpassed my expectations of information, not only on osteoporosis, but many other aspects of health care.In fact, I am so pleased with it that I have bought a total of 4 copies, 3 being for my children.Two of them are in health care, and the third will also benefit immensely from the knowledge this book provides. Thank you, Dr. Gaby, for writing this book and sharing your knowledge and research with those of us with osteoporosis, and those who can head off its devastating effects.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book

I give it 4 stars. I bought it for my sister who has Crohn's Disease and Ulcerated Colitis. And while Jordan's story is an inspiration, a lot of the concepts & ideas are great and it is easy to read the recipes are not quite realistic. There are people with the disease like my sister who has a hard time keeping a job due to illness who can't afford to go find chicken feet and other things found at natural food stores. My sister has taken the basic concepts of this book and applied it to her life. She has been able to decrease a lot of her medicines. She is now due to have a baby girl, due 9/4/06, and is in remission from the Crohn's! Buy this book but realize that a lot of it is not very realistic. ... Read more

Macular Degeneration Discussion Inadequate
Remarkably this book has only one chapter on macular degeneration.Other eye diseases are discussed in chapters that follow.Useful descriptions of macular degeneration research or ways to achieve living independence arelacking.Heavy emphasis is placed upon nutrition therapy.I found otherbooks to be of more value in understanding the role of nutrition strategiesin preserving sight and practical ways to follow them in daily living. Thisbook alone will not fulfill most needs.

Simple, intelligent and interesting nutritional approach to cancer
I was diagnosed 9 years ago with advanced multiple metastatic cancers and a grim prognosis.I stumbled across this book in a health food store and was taken by the intelligence and straightforwardness of the program's design and by the apparent sincerity and enthusiasm of the late Mr. Breuss.I scrupulously followed his full 42-day vegetable juice fast twice, with about a year in between.The first time, I used the pre-made Breuss Juice from Biotta, and the second time I did all the juicing myself in a GreenPower juicer.
Genius
Breuss was a man of integrity and inspiration. His theory is sound. However the theory is not as easy to put into practice as it at first appears, First, you have to want to get better. That's not straightforward and requires physical, psychic and emotional work. Then there is the prospect of no social interaction over food for six weeks. That's not something most people have ever experienced in a lifetime. Thirdly the lack of mastication needs to be addressed, to me someone needs to come up with something between Breuss (best) and Gerson (good), that would be five star +!.

good information, but...
Skye Weintraub has definitely put together a great book. At first when she's identifying each parasite, she tells you the "conventional" way of treating each one--which upset me because she's an N.D. But I suppose the pharmaceuticals must be listed as well. Thankfully, later in the book she gives prevention advice as well as herbal remedies. I've learned a lot just researching the internet, but this book taught me even more. I am very glad I bought this book. I started treating myself before I got a hold of this and I wish I had read this first. I've made several mistakes, but hey--I'm still alive!Parasites-and getting rid of them-can be very dangerous. The problem is much more wide-spread than people realize. All these people with unspecified problems (fibromyalgia, CFS, IBS, colitis, etc.) would do well to purchase this book and find out the REAL cause of their ailments. I have been misdiagnosed for years and finally I had to diagnos and treat myself (obviously without using those horrible pharmaceutical drugs). I almost died because of parasites (don't know which ones) and the treatment. It is highly advised to find a good alternative care doctor (one that doesn't use drugs or surgery) before embarking on a cleanse, if in fact you are heavily infested as I am.As far as the reviewer who asked "where's the facts"--the book is not riddled with footnotes (which I appreciate). However, if you look in the back, Skye lists the books that she has used as reference. The only problem I have with the book is the fact that she recommends Grapefruit Seed Extract as a useful antimicrobial. Commercial GSE has been shown to contain methylparabens, triclosan, and benzethonium chloride. These chemicals make the GSE antimicrobial. DO NOT use commercially prepared GSE!!! In Dr. Weintraub's defense, the book was published (in 2000) about the same time as the study by von Woedtke (1999) which showed what the extract really contains; and before the study in 2001 by Gary Takeoka and his group, which confirmed the findings.If these studies were available to her, I don't think she would have recommended the use of GSE in her book. Thankfully, I am intelligent enough to do tons of research, not just trusting one book or source.All in all: a very good book, priced just right, and VERY much worth buying!!

Clear and concise
At first I thought that eating clay was crazy.After reading this book I am a true believer.The author takes a step by step approach that is simple to understand and creates a strong argument for the benefits of this substance.Nature also uses these healing benefits and we are just getting back to our roots of the earth.

Great source of information
I read this book and it was very helpful to me. It helped me to understand the very mysterious habit of clay eating. With some good anecdotes, and straight-to-the-point writing, I was certainly pleased with the manuscript. There are lots of clays on the marketplace and the author helps the reader to categorize the various clays and choose one that is right for him or her. Not to mention that there are so many different delivery systems for the clay! Informative and Interesting

Great Book To Help You Detoxify
This book gave me HOPE and a plan of action a few months ago, as I have breast cancer that has metastasized throughout my body.The surgeon who diagnosed me suggested that I purchase the book Death And Dying (don't ever believe your doctor, as only God knows His plans for you) but an acquaintance recommended A Cancer Battle Plan Sourcebook as well as the first book, A Cancer Battle Plan.Ann Frahm has been through the worst of it and survived.Now with her plan, combined with only 2 doses of chemo, I'm almost completely cancer free. Again, Ann gave me so much hope, and that's what people need more than anything when they get diagnosed. Since one out of two people are getting cancer, I highly recommend this book to everyone... that way you don't have to scramble to get information if you, your friends, or family get diagnosed. I'm thoroughly convinced that this plan of action could save the large majority of people with cancer, but people just aren't getting their hands on this type of information. Additionally, Dr. Frahm is a great guy who has emailed me with information several times. And, by the way, if you have cancer.... I"M WINNING AND SO WILL YOU!!

In response to "Disappointing,..." from 2003
I will be honest, I have not read the book.I just had to respond to the reviewer who was upset that Anne died and that without the walking proof then the author is not credible. "Disappointed" must watch movies but you know what, life does not always have a happy hollywood ending.Cancer is an aggressive disease that ravages the body.You said it yourself that she was able to prolong her death.Read the other reviews, many people have had positive response by following this plan - but there are no guarantees.Her death (albeit from complications) shows this.To claim that there was a guarantee and proof that this plan is the cure-all would be irresponsible.And if nothing else, at the very least, these people have a positive experience while going through the plan and a positive mental outlook can be a very strong medicine.

This book saved my life
To correct the above review,Anne Frahm actually died of iron poisoning due to having dozens of blood transfusions from complications resulting from a bone marrow transplant.The reviewer should do their homework before giving such a misinformed review.

This is a prime example of imitator companies that I referred to previously above that have absolutely no scientific research behind them to make this, or any other claim! Again, they just take a few concepts from this book, and make-up the rest. If they, or any of the countless other "Jump on the Bandwagon" Noni Juice sellers had the funds to actually do one speck of research or development, they would know that scientists have proven that adding small amounts of grape and blueberry juice to the Noni actually enhances the performance of the enzymes that circulate in our bodies! Nonetheless, they cannot reproduce this original Noni Juice from Tahitian Noni International because this formula, and even its bottle, are patented!

Excellent Beginning Book for Family Homeopathy
I highly recommend this book to those who want to learn more about homeopathy through practice.The book lives up to its description: most readers will be able to spend a couple hours with the book and begin using it.The companion medicine kit adds tremendous value to the book, and its supplier is reliable and helpful; in fact, I believe that we would have found it frustrating had we not bought the kit because most of the remedies the book recommends are in the kit; you do not have to go out when you are sick to get several remedies that you think you might need as you work through the illness.In addition, the kit is compact and very economical compared to buying remedies in stores.
