5-0 out of 5 stars Over the Top
This book is in the catagory of information overload and treats Candida overgrowth in the same way as several other severe immunodeficient diseases are.In fact others conditions are included. The co-author being an M.D. helps present a rounded viewpoint.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful to Japanese reader too.
The auther seems to be very familier with Japanese food.I greatly appreciate for it.Because of her knowledge, I was saved by this book a lot.I didn't have to guess. One of the improvement I'd like to ask is more entries in the index listings.Often I found no entry in the index when I wanted to look in later.I had to have an extended time to locate what I was looking for.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this garbage
This book is just another 'low fat/high carb is the way to go' and a vegetarian diet is the best for everyone piece of junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book!
This book's stories are inspiring and very educational - if you arethinking about why you should try for a natural birth, these stories will help inspire you! Very easy read - stories are from real Moms and usually no more than a few pages at a time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read
Sheri Menelli has compiled a wonderful collection of natural birth stories in her book Journey Into Motherhood: Inspirational Stories of Natural Birth. Each story is written by a mother in her own voice and concludes with A Mother's Guidance and Additional Thoughts sections giving additional tips and advice to help you arm yourself with the support and guidance you need to have a natural birth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Supportive-- Empowering -- a fun read
I actually got this book as a gift.I am just now expecting my first.I was already dedicated to the ideal of natural -- non-medical, non-intervention, non-medicated -- birth. So maybe this book was "preaching to the choir" BUT it is so positive and so encouraging.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not your typical self help book
The idea that there is a physical component to every psychological problem has always intigued me, and I had previously read a number of Alexander Lowen's books, and found them fascinating. Recently, I became very depressed over something in my life, a failure on my part to achieve something which on the surface level I could say to myself it's understandable, but beneath the surface I was judging myself very harshly. I went into therapy and also bought a number of self help / psychology books, nothing seemed to help much. I was having some pretty extreme physical tensions, and I remembered about Lowen and Bioenergetics. So I got this book, and what I can say is that doing some of the exercises in the book, in particular some of the exercises dealing with expressing anger, helped considerably. And it helped where the normal self help books did nothing. If you are having difficulty in your life and you find yourself interested in this approach, I recommend this book. It certainly won't cost you much and you might be surprised at it's impact.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any serious herbal treatment collection
Other books have come out on the topic of Chinese cures - but this is the most comprehensive yet, created by world-famous practitioner Dr. Henry C. Lu who uses his expertise to explain both Chinese medicine and its underlying philosophy of health and illness. Treatments are organized by complaints and include easy reference for treatment and cure and advice on hundreds of foods and herbs as well. Literally hundreds of Chinese herbs and their uses receive clear, specific mention; right down to the formulas and potions which make them useful. Very highly recommended: a must for any serious herbal treatment collection.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic reference for TCM!
If you are interested in traditional chinese medicine(TCM), you will definitely love this book! Firstly, its such a thick book with tons of information. There are several sections in the book. There is a section where he lists out diagnostic of conditions and how to trace it to the cause of the problem (eg. kidney deficiency in yin; or heart and kidney not communicating, or heat in lungs etc). Then there is another section which lists the natural properties of each food (almost any kind of food you can think of, from duck eggs to strawberry, gancao(herb) to mulberry, honey to rice. Another section he talks about the origin of each herb, and what the herb is used for (eg treating false fire condition). Great book! I am buying another one for my mum to read!

3-0 out of 5 stars Look For Better Choice
The basic idea of avoiding certain foods that aren't good for the body is worthwhile. However, the book rambles in information that isn't that helpful. The key is eating more vegetables and fruits and avoiding mucus causing foods. An internet search may give you the quick information of this and you can skip this book. Also, books that deal with getting rid of inflamation in the body will be helpful. It is amazing how many diseases and ailments can be healed by changing what we eat... choose well for a healing fountain of youth!

5-0 out of 5 stars very simple
I was introduced to Ehret's books as a teenager by a vegan friend and his family. I grew up a mixed eater and suffered a chronic cold and other health inconveniences. After a year of following his teachings I was a normal kid again with no health inconveniences whatsoever.
1-0 out of 5 stars Fasting is for Cleansing, Not for Everyday Life
What this book preaches is starvation, pure and simple. This is a very old book, wherein the author makes many unsubstantiated glowing statements, and unfortunately many people, including myself, were drawn into the craze of attempting to find the "superior health" that Ehret promised, only to be left with broken health because of having done so. My first introduction to the book came about 1963, although I did not really try to live Ehret's recommendations fully until about 1966. Being young and gullible I took everything Professor Ehret said as absolutely true. This was a big mistake. I believe this book came very close to killing me, as I am already prone to low-blood sugar, without starving myself.

Editorial Review

It is clear that all organisms have highly developed mechanisms for self-repair and healing -- but according to Dr. Weil, Western medicine often interferes instead of working with these systems. In the course of his argument, he describes several extraordinary case studies of drastic spontaneous healing. Perhaps the most valuable feature of the book is his moregradual eight-week program of strengthening the ability of your immune, endocrine, circulatory, and nervous systems to provide such spontaneous healing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Book
Andrew Weil's basic premise in "Spontaneous Healing"-that that body can heal itself-is one of my own most cherished beliefs, and I have found the experience of reading Dr. Weil at a time when I am recovering from an illness to be particularly inspiring and informative. That is not to say that the book is for those who are currently ill; indeed, Dr. Weil focuses as much on prevention as healing. But for those who are ill this book can be an illumination. I have read Dr. Weil's "Health and Healing" so I was familiar with his ideas about healing and medicine, but the lucidity of his writing here eclipses that early book and brings his points home as clearly and simply as possible.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Phenomenal Bookto Starting a Healthy Life
Being a current college student I face various abuses in my life such as alcohol consumption, smoking and stress. I wanted a book that would give me a natural way to repair my body and at the same time change my bad lifestyle. Spontaneous Healing: Discover and Enhance Your Body's Natural Ability To Maintain and Heal Itself by Andrew Weil M.D., provides its readers with vital information to promote healing internally and externally. It is through natural alternatives, methods and remedies that keep the body consistently healthy or eradicating diseases from the body without harming the balance of it. Andrew Weil who exposes the reader to alternative methods that the conventional medical community has diagnosed without success. Everyone should know the various options available to them and the book is a phenomenal guide in exposing its readers to the natural way to a healthy life.3-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent resource from Dr. Weil
I bought Spontaneous Healing to be a companion to my other books by Dr Weil. I had truly enjoyed both 8 Weeks to Optimum Health and Natural Health, Natural Medicine. This is yet another excellent resource on how to integrate "alternative" medical practices with what you already know in order to achieve natural healing and wellness. Much of what he says are things that we already know: exercise is good, we need to eat more vegetables and fiber, get enough rest, and so on. But he also has new ideas presented here, as well as in his other books. I'm especially impressed with the breathing techniques. I was very skeptical that something as simple as breathing could have an impact on how I was feeling. But it really does make a difference! (The "waking up" technique saved me in college when I had no coffee). Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Attractive and Interesting
It is amazing to see the apparent youthfulness of older practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine and qigong. Most people had assumed that it was ethnic, but it's now becoming clear that it is a consequence of their health practices, that keep them active and looking young, well past middle age.

5-0 out of 5 stars On the cutting edge WITHOUT the CUTTING
Many women like myself are not happy with how time, gravity, poor diet, having children, not enough exercise or too much of the wrong kind of exercise and STRESS damages our face.Plastic surgery is very expensive, can be dangerous and unpredictable. It's refreshing to have a woman put time into researching a natural approach to anti-aging techniques. This book has given me knowledge and tools that are healthy which I can do on my own.Ping Zhang has pulled together all the aspects of life that adversely affects our skin and made this natural approach easy, if you are willing to put the time and effort into it. Her information on what to eat, how to exercise and massage your own face couldn't be more simple!I'm looking forward to using her products which will make my life simpler.Asian women have beautiful skin and I believe it has to do with how they manage their stress, using breathing and meditation techniques. Also how healthy their diets are and how they incorporate a spiritual aspect in all that they do. Even if you are unsure about having acupuncture, Ping gives many acupressure points that address the unsightly lines and bags and sags.I am delighted how I will be saving money by using her natural products and her non-invasive protocol instead of all the other unhealthy gimmicks that are out on the market. My $25.95 investment is an investment in MYSELF.Thank You Ping for all your hard work!! ... I am not one of those people that boycotts medical doctors, but I do like to have alternatives to the overabundance of prescription medications out there. This book is great because it gives you information about all sorts of ailments, and different ways to treat them using natural products, as well as ways to measure how much to give to your children.

As a hypoglycemic, I am trying to find out what I can do to keep my blood sugar level.Dr. Murray provides the reader with more suggestions than just eating right and exercising. The addition of supplements is very helpful. He also educates on the connection between hypoglycemia and diabetes. This is important for hypolycemics to know since it is very possible for this condition to turn into diabetes.5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read, clear and to the point!!!!
I have low blood sugar and throughout the past few years I have read many books on the subject of sugar. In fact tonight I was reading; The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program. As I was reading this book I was getting frustrated at how wordy the book was and how wordy the other books had been that I had read before. The book by Michael T. Murray is clear and to the point. It's an easy read but invaluable for the information it conveys. It is definitely my favorite book and I have been recommending and purchasing it for friends and family for years.

4-0 out of 5 stars good introduction to Traditional nutrition
Schmid's book was the first one I read on the work of Weston A. Price and Francis Pottenger. It is a very good overview of the subject of Tradtional diets. If you are wondering what "Traditional diets" are, they are simply the way people ate before big business took over food production, and made shelf life and profit margin more important than the nutritional quality of food. 5-0 out of 5 stars Changing a (new) life
I first read this book in 1987, when it was initially published. I'd picked it up in a bookstore on Fifth Avenue (that's how well I remember the occasion, 16 years later), started to read, and couldn't put it down. So I bought what for me then was an expensive book and finished it that night. 4-0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia Type Version of Traditional Foods
This book can be a companion book to other books recommended by the Weston Price Organization. It is more or less an "encyclopaedic" type style to traditonal foods information using the Weston Price book as a guideline, but going into a more of an updated, and practical style.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book
If you've heard of alpha-lipoic acid and its being extremely helpful in treating diabetes, liver illnesses, mercury intoxications, or as an anti-oxidant, you may want to know more about it before taking it.This book, by Burt Berkson (MD, PhD) is an excellent answer to your worries.Berkson describes how he got to be interested by alpha-lipoic acid, it's safety record ("FDA"-approved in Germany for 50 years), it's uses, and perhaps most interesting, his views on medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source for Herbal Remedies
I felt like I was in training as an apprentice while reading this book. It is an excellent source of knowledge for Rainforest herbs learned from a H'men (Shaman or Mayan Healer) and for some plants we grow in the US. My only regret is not reading this book prior to visiting Belize via a cruise ship and not going to Ixchel Farm. (I definitely will on next trip). The source of reference in the back of the book is excellent for resources on Herbs. There are recipes for teas and tinctures useful for all kinds of ailments. Rosita also shared her knowledge learned from Don Elijio Panti on massaging the uterus to center a tipped uterus which is the cause for many of women's health problems today.(if we could only teach our US doctor's this cure!). Very Spiritual Book also- teaching the Spiritual side of healing and how important that is in the process of healing. The lessons I learned from this book, I will practice in my life. I read this book prior to reading her other book "Sastun". It is also an excellent book about the Mayan healer Don Elijio Panti and her apprenticeship- I couldn't put this book down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got woman problems?
This book has remedies for any ailment a woman could encounter. From wrinkles to cramps to irritable husbands. There's a great section on massage for children to fix anything from nail biting to colic. It also seems there is a tea recipie for anything you could ever suffer from.5-0 out of 5 stars rainforest remedies
I have had the pleasure of studing with Rosita, and visiting her in Belize. I had a chance to look this book over while waiting for it to be published. It is a wonderful book, filled with the wisdom of the Mayan traditions, healings, and spiritual practices, that Rosita knows so well having spent over 30 years working with the Mayan healers. This book is a treasure and should be followed by reading her first book, Sastun, my appreticeship with a Maya healer, which followers her journey to Belize and her delightful relationship with Don Elijio Panti, one of the last most respected healers of Belize. ... They also provide a tremendous resourcefor insomniacs by listing more than 3,500 references! You can also look upspecific nutritional supplements, herbs and homeopathic remedies as well. Anicely done work!

4-0 out of 5 stars Accurate and helpful, but not comprehensive.
This is a great starter book for people who are interested in natural remedies for common ailments. It is very easy to use, easy to read, and unintimidating. For every ailment or illness, it gives the usual naturalremedies I have found in other books. And it has a pretty good list ofvitamins, herbs and homeopathic remedies. However, it isn't the mostcomprehensive book I've seen. There are some herbs that I couldn't find. But overall, if you want a basic guide, this is a good one to start with. ... Read more
