5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best, if not the best, overall book on the subject.
This book delivers, in my opinion, more than what it promises. One gets to learn about the important and underrated issue of detoxification and its ramifications. The book works as an excellent primer on natural health. The tone is consistently professional, rational, and so-above-your-average-natural-health-publication that you will be happy to read and, yes, purchase it. I first read a library copy and then rushed to buy my own. Chances are you will do the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars this a great book
There are so many ways to detox your body and protect your health.I suggest everyone have it as part of their 'medicine chest.

5-0 out of 5 stars Politically Incorrect!
Truth IS hard to find..but this little book is cram packed with a most haunting, unorthodox, and politically incorrect truth: The kind of truth you recognise when you hear it.My copy is dogeared and tattered from the hands of many awed readers. When they ask in amazement, "Marijuana' has benefits? Who would have known?" My answer? The US Government for one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing
i enjoyed the honesty and delightful look at the more realistic side of marijuana use. This book along with 'Marijuana Myths / Marijuana Facts' are must reads for folks who want an informed, more truthful look at marijuana and how we've been, and are being, lied to by ignorant authoritiy figures such as them 'DARE' folks.

1-0 out of 5 stars give me a break!
First of all, let me make one thing quite clear:I am for the legalization of all drugs, I get really annoyed when people speak against marijuana, I am repulsed by the lies and propaganda that groups like DARE use against pot, and overall, I think pot is pretty cool--if you use it wisely. This book is a frivolous castle in the air.It presents all of the benefits, including some Ms Bello made up herself, and doesn't show you any of the downsides. In my experience, and in the experience of many of my friends, there are dangers as well as benefits regarding this plant.Marijuana is not some thing you can casually pick up and allow to fill your life; it can very easily take over your whole livelihood. In order to become a conscientious and responsible pot-smoker, you need to set limits for yourself, know when and when not to smoke, take up plenty of interests besides drugs, balance being "high" with being "normal", and above all, take the plant seriously!According to this book, smoking pot is like drinking water:100% harmless, you can do it anytime you want and as much as you want, and without it, you're toast....This book automatically makes marijuana less safe than it would be otherwise! There are plenty of other books that will give a more balanced pro-and-con view of the old bhang! This is nothing but propaganda, equal and opposite to the propaganda used by DARE! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Natural Way to Good Health
Although it is not as definitive as the editors would have you believe, "Nature's Medicines" quite thoroughly covers a number of herbs, vitamins and other supplements. The book is divided into 3 sections foreasy reference:What You Need to Know About Supplements; The Powerhouse ofNature's Medicines; and Fighting Disease with Supplements. The firstchapter discusses the role that vitamins, minerals and other supplementsplay in your health. The second chapter discusses the efficacy of numeroussupplements, to include side effects and interaction precautions.Thethird chapter is a very thorough discussion of numerous diseases/ailments(such as AIDS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, headaches, cancer, Alzheimers, etc.)and what supplements are most beneficial to those suffering from them. If I could only have one book on natural supplements, this is the one Iwould choose:it's a very useful reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars hidden treasure
This book deserves much more attention. I intend to recommend it to my career coaching clients. The author emphasizes that we don't always figure out what we need by "mouth aerobics." Getting out and experiencing nature will help us find where we are.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read For All Therapists
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, spiritual seeker and avid outdoorsperson and I have been looking for a way to bring these aspects together.Phillip Sutton Chard's book "The Healing Earth" has shown me the way. Chardnot only applies psychological insight to the practice of psychotherapy butactually uses nature as the "therapist." His case studies illustrate hownature has the power to heal and change our lives, validates our ownexperiences and empowers us to use the natural world in the practice ofpsychotherapy. Chard's book redefines "sanity" as if the whole worldmattered.

4-0 out of 5 stars Straightforward and Comprehensive
The book is large but set out in a series of straightforward sections: the first one on drugs themselves (under generic names - useful if you're British !) with each entry having a general paragraph on the drug (or group of drugs) but then goes onto talk of how it/they interact with herbs and vitamins whether helpful and unhelpful interactions.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great.
There's a lot of good information in this book but I would not recommend it as a reference. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Today's Health Consumer

This is a great quick reference book for alternatives to traditional medicine. There is more research required by the reader for treatments (dosages are not included always) but it's definately a great starting point.I'm not following the suggestions to the letter, but the guidance it provides is very beneficial and points me in the right direction for further research.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good resource for behavior, supplements and botanicals.
In my practice as a complimentary medicine provider, I use this book as a resource. Its review of systems and disorders preceeds any suggestions for natural healing.Often healthy behaviors are highlighted as treatment, followed by suggestions for supplements and botanicals. Editorial Review

Far more than a collection of folk recipes, this excellent reference book explains everything from the nature of disease to descriptions of herbs and the areas of the body they affect to preparations for tinctures, teas, infusions, and plasters, all in an easy to follow format. The herbs discussed are not hard to find. Herbal therapies for more than 140 diseases are catalogued, and the three indexes in this meticulously organized book cover general information, diseases, and herbs. Readers interested in herbology and traditional homeopathy will find this an invaluable resource. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My NUMBER ONE Reference
I have close to 100 books on herbs, and whenever I need something this is the FIRST one I grab!I have several copies at home, one at work and one for traveling around.I can't recommend this book highly enough!!!It has a one-of-a-kind chart included which is pure gold!I've never seen a chart that is so useful! The only drawback I've found in this book is the lack of some of the Rain Forest herbs, such as Pau d'Arco and Cat's Claw, which I would dearly love to see Smokey's write-ups on. This book includes a section on herbs, a section on illnesses, a section on diet and cleansing, as well as a section for learning about herbology which includes invaluable information on herbal actions. This herb book is great for beginners and professionals alike.I have read all of Smokey's books and would unhesitatingly recommend them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Herbal 'Bible' anywhere!
I've owned this book for about 15 years, and it's one I DON'T lend out to anyone!5-0 out of 5 stars Cult of Santillo
I'm not normally one to gush, but could this book have been written any better? The only thing that I regret about this book is that it doesn't have Smokie's John H. on the inside cover. I am studying to become an N.D., myself. Smokey has the information in this one book that I have gotten out of three texts. It's kept simple, full of info and instructive. Love the graphs, too. Me likey. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Making your own fragrant, softly tinted soaps--as well as bath salts, massage oils, and facial scrubs--is not only much less costly than buying them ready-made, it's also remarkably easy with the recipes in this book. The secret behind these simple but satisfying hand-milled soaps is to begin with purchased bars of plain white soap, rather than cooking up your ownsoap base from scratch. (This is not cheating, the author points out, but more like how you can consider soup homemade even if you didn't make the stock yourself.) The basic process is extremely straightforward; adding various oils, fragrances, colorants, and botanicals yields dozens of interestingvariations. Also appealing are the extensive ideas for labeling and packaging your products and combining them in themed gift presentations. But you may have a hard time giving some of these away, since you'll be tempted to draw a relaxing bath and enjoy them yourself. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference for Beginners!
Even though this book is entitled "Natural Soapmaking" it really refers using items such as herbs, etc in your soaps and not to the cold process you would doing when making soaps with lye (which can take a month to cure). These are easy receipes for someone just starting out and want to learn creative ways make soaps which gives you immediate results. It gives good instructions and information about aromatherapy, what different colors mean and what certain herbs to enhance your soaps. Although, she recommends putting Vaseline in the molds to assist with the releasing of the mold - you really do not need to do that! As long as you wait for the soap to harden completely that step is unnecessary! And for the cold process/lye makers you may want to pass on this one because you may be disappointed! It is a great addition to your Melt and Pour Soapmaking by the same author!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners!!!
I absolutely loved this book. I've looked at many soapmaking books and this was the easiest to understand.I made soaps for my friends for Christmas last year. I didn't have to have a degree in chemistry to make my own soap!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for the Experienced Soap Maker
This book is great for people that already make their own soap. She has wonderful recipes for hand-milled soap, bath salts, bath oils and massage oils. There are also some very descriptive and beautiful packaging ideas. If you do make your own soap, make a batch of unscented cold processed soap and grate it - then this book will really be helpful to you.Unscented vegetable soap is sometimes difficult to find. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Prevalance of ignorance
It is almost inconceivable that anyone professing to practice "Medicine" as late as 1925 "Dr. Tilden" claims to have a degree "M. D."Where he obtained this is not known but it obviously was before 1900.He completely discounts germ theory, vaccination and every other causation of diseases proven prior to 1925.An explanation can be found in the fact that this is a self published polemic. The epitomy of "snake oil" remedies which, unfortunately, are still extant today. If you don't believe it just read the recent reviews of this excreta.

Pain-free with Magnet Therapy is an excellent introduction to the field of magnet therapy. This book is a good starting point for anyone who wants to use magnets to treat a health condition: use it to sort out fact fromfiction when it comes to assessing the claims of magnet manufacturers andsalespeople. Lara Owen has done a great deal of research and in this bookdescribes in plain English what science knows about magnets and what theycan and cannot do. Yet Owen does not exclude the tantalizing possibilitiesthat haven't yet been researched but are suggested by the stories of peoplewho have tried magnets. Read more

I read this book and was blown away.Incredible stories, unbelievable, awe inspiring to say the least. This book describles stories of very sick people trying urine fasts, as a last resort, after years of traditional medical treatment and healing whatever ails them.I would also recommend "Your own perfect medicine" by Martha Christy and "the golden fountain" by coen van der kroon, two books I also read about urine therapy.I have done a few urine fasts and they really work to help you lose weight and junk in your body.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wise and wonderful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A unique treatment of the Bach Flower system
Stefan Ball, of the Dr. Edward Bach Centre and Bach Foundation has come up with a unique approach to understanding and using the Bach Flower Remedies with this book, one that looks beyond the descriptions of what the individual flowers do and how to choose and use them (scores of books are available that do this already, some with him as author, no less). The focus here, as one can gather from the subtitle, is on personal and spiritual development and growth. I am not usually one who even considers reading so-called "self-help" books, but since I am heavily involved with the Bach system, including training to become a practitioner, I already had an interest in that part of the subject. This book does cover in detail, in chapters alternating with more philosophical ones, what each of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies do, but even here, there are more in-depth descriptions and different ways of looking at the Remedies, using many thoughtful examples (some from the author's own life experiences), than usually appear in these books. Every other chapter covers topics such as intuition, peak experiences, simplicity and finding one's life purpose not only as they relate to using the Bach system, but also how they have been discussed throughout history by philosphers, authors and scientists. This sounds like it could get rather heavy pretty quickly, but Ball keeps the tone light and the style of writing almost conversational so that the book is very easy and quick to read while conveying a wealth of useful information that makes you think about your own life. For someone already using the Bach Flowers, Bloom offers fascinating, fresh insight into using them for a deeper purpose, beyond, say, "merely" taking them for relieving depression. For someone new to Bach Flowers, it provides a wonderful starting point, complete with all the basic information as well as an underlying theme that can be tapped into when the time is right. Seventy years on, Bach Flowers continue to help people change their own lives. Bloom brings forward this message in a comfortable, inspiring fashion which is destined to make it a classic. ...
