Offers the intriguing hypothesis that the primary cause of many functional and structural disturbances is fixation/adhesion of visceral articulating surfaces.Can be used as a textbook of diagnosis and treatment by thosetrained in bodywork, especially those familiar with the subtle osteopathiccranial techniques.

Helpfull!
Mr. Barral and Mercier adds to the osteopathic armamentarium with an easy understandable approach to the viscera and its associated structures as it relates to the body in a mechanical, neuro-logical and chemical manner,making it accesible for manual treatment (which of course should be incontext of treating the patient and not the pain). This book is helpfull asa learning tool (for educational support) and a clinical manual.

The collaboration between the P.T. and the D.O. is a beautiful thing. Not very useful
Among other related sciences, I teach human osteology at the college and graduate levels.There is no use for this text in the classroom.It is a sad book stop on a shelf full of other more useful books.If you are looking for a 500 page book of awkwardly strung together minutiae of little relevance to the forensic world, this it the book for you.If you're not, I recommend checking out other sources.

DEMOLISHES THE MILK MYTH!
Appleton's well-documented yet reader-friendly book shows that maintaining healthy bones is not based merely on ingesting dairy products, despite what the billboards proclaim.In fact, she shows us that excess dairy consumption can actually CAUSE osteoporosis.Since I can't eat dairy foods, I found much reassurance in her book.For a long time I wondered why the heavy milk and cheese eaters I have known seemed to lose their teeth, bow their backs, and break their hips in spite of all the calcium they had consumed.Appleton explains that there are other factors which cause osteoporosis which we don't hear about in the mainstream press, such as excess protein, sodium, and sugar.I've been following her suggestions for about a year, and my forty-seven-year-old bones and joints are feeling very good these days.

much needed info for EVERYONE on osteoporosis; well done!
This book covers info for all stages of life and types of persons (including men!)The section on risks is great, and the best chapter explains how Osteoporosis is diagnosed -- bone density scans are at lastdescribed in a meaningful way along with their interpretation.I foundthis very useful.There is a big and appropriate focus on prevention &treatment (great info here!) as well as cases presented that make eachchapter come alive with real clinical descriptions and solutions.The bookis incredibly well written, indexed superbly and contains numerousreferences. One sided
The book is mistitled as 'Principles' since it does not really do justice to the foundations of the field. It is more of a compilations of the research work of a 'few' investigators in the field.

Covering the whole body
This is a great book, covering most details of its field. It describes the physicians (and their patients) dream of substituting organs and cells and it also shows, how mankind could not solve problems � up to now. History of artificial organs lacking the full function is one point, but the focus is on cells and their ability to build complete organs � and therefore the book looks on the pathway for the future of organ substitution.
