Good reference for non-chemists
As a physics graduate student interested in biophysics research, I found this text an invaluable resource. I had intro chemistry as an undergrad and AP bio in high school, but no organic chemistry or any other background. This text contained a clear introduction to biochemistry and described a lot of the techniques I was reading about in scientific papers in language that a non-chemist could understand. I still refer back to it frequently.

Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry is simply the best one.
The Lehninger Princicples of Biochemistry is the best book in biochemistry that has been written. I have use it in my biochemistry course in my first year in school medicine and thanks to this book I pass my class with one of the best notes in the group. Any other book exposes the biochemistry principles with clarity and coherence like the Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry. I can�t wait for the 4th edition.

Good book for biochemistry
This book is complete and thorough in explaing every energy pathway (Kreb's cycle, electron transport system, glycolysis, etc.)The diagrams are helpful and explain the material with visual detail especially in this type of book.The only thing, the book is somewhat hard to understand for reading it the first time.I know biochemistry is a hard subject, but I thought it could be explained in a little easier fashion.However, other than that, the book is quite organized and a must buy for every chiropractic student taking biochemistry.I also highly recommend:Read more

Human Biology Text
I received this book quickly and in perfect condition.However I realized after buying it that the price is high and it can be found cheaper than the $90 I bought it for.It has been essential to me in my biology class though so I'm glad to have it.

This book was chosen for a college Human Biology course I enrolled in.I had a HORRIBLE highschool biology class, and was more or less terrified of what to expect - but even before the class began, just leafing through the book made me feel better.This book is laid out very well - plenty of subheadings within chapters to find information rapidly, as well as a very reader-friendly balance of text and clearly labeled illustrations.It's also very up to date - I actually found myself reading through sections just for my own knowledge and curiosity! ... This book is handy when you got Lyme
Because I got Lyme's disease this book is of interest to me.
Poorly written, poorly organized
This book is poorly organized on all three levels of writing.
Yes,Very good book!
It's easy to read, easy to understand, very good graphics; Kuby is a very friendly book for new students, and for refreshing many concepts if you are very busy (and I bet you are!). I love it. But if you have more time available for reading, I would recommend Fundamental Immunology (Paul) and Cellular and Molecular Immunology by Abbas. Anyway, never trust in just one book. And try to keep up-to-date with new material on scientific magazines. See, in research you don't depend on books, that's only at the beginning or if you have to refresh some concepts. Once you have your knowledge, you will be reading papers on scientific magazines and less books. Many times, the concepts you have learned on books can change very fast. Science is a dynamic field, always changing. Always remember that. I wish you good luck in your career!

Fabulous introduction to "Birds and Bees"
I purchased this book after sitting cross-legged on the floor at a major bookstore with a whole slew of books on the subject.I picked this one for a number of reasons including the fact that it discusses different types of families -- this was a huge issue to me because my daughter was adopted as an "older child".
A Book with an AGENDA
Well, it is an okay book, if you tear out pages 31 & 32 (which explain and illustrate homosexual relationships). These two pages are completely inappropriate and unnecessary. Also, be forewarned that on page 42, the writer states that abortion is just a "medical way to end a pregnancy".She makes it sound like a safe, natural and healthy alternative to family planning. It is so obvious that the writer is pushing her liberal "agenda" on our innocent children.What a shame. If you do not share her personal views, stay away from this book.

Oh My Gosh.I LOVE THIS BOOK.MY SON.........LOVES THIS BOOK.I thought it would be a good ice breaker to open communication about sex. Although I have started talking to him about sex, it was still an uncomfortable topic for the both of us.Trying to master the clinical side of things as well as the human /real side of things.Not giving too much at a time but trying to make sure he gets what he needs.It is a stressful balance.

Easy to Read
Chapter 7 on the nervous system was helpful along with the other chapters on the skin, muscles and urinary systems.This book explains anatomy and physiology in a very simple fashion, making it easier to digest.This book is a good review.The writhing was easy to comprehend.
Essential learning tool!
This "Dummy" book helped greatly to gaining a quick understanding of the subject matter. It was the difference between passing and failing a very difficult course.

Outstanding...
This is probably the best book of its kind in the vast and multidisciplinary field of drug design and action. Richard Silverman is an acclaimed chemistry Professor at Northwestern University, and in this book, he provides the most comprehensive and lucid exposition of the chemical basis of drug action that I have seen. No matter how complicated biological systems and their interactions are, at the basic level, it's all chemistry, and mostly organic chemistry. An organic chemist will find this book extremely illuminating in a way that would not have been made clear through his traditional education.
Excellent
This is an excellent book and it lies on the smaller physical side of organic chemistry, as the title says, instead of the huge biochemical side.It really was a fascinating book.

Good basic information
This is a very good source for a basic overview.It is well-organized and clear, but it is only a starting point.I didn't have a clue about where to start, so this is perfect for that.

Must Have!!!
I bought this bought and found it very informative. It is an excellent start-up tool and very easy to read and understand. After two year, I still refer back to my book.

Hard to get past the Typos
This book was amusing, informative and very easy to read.The author spends much of his time promoting himself as a Practice Manager and offers his help and his advice "by the hour".It is difficult, however, to envision the thought of paying an expert whose own book contains a minimum of 1 typographical error per page.I question the attention to detail and fiscal expertise of someone whose own publication reads like my 3rd graders book report (before editing).Typos aside, the book provided us with a baseline level of Practice Management information and offered a solid introduction to what will be a new endeavor for my husband and I. ... Your Lifesaver in Fluid & Electrolytes Ocean!
I purchased this book with some doubt, because you see a very high variability in these series. Now, i am very happy. Every medical student and resident gets frustrated with fliuid and electrolytes. Reading textbooks makes it worse. I have seen a lot of attendings and Nephrologists (!!) who are scared of this subject. This book can help you tremendously. It is written in a very simple language and gives you the proper approach to fluid and electrolyte problems. It is full of practical examples that you will see every day and shows you how to solve them. After reading this book, you will be confident enough to deal with electrolytes. Instead of replacing electrolytes blindly with K-Dur and Neutra-Phos and .... and not knowing what to do with Hyponatremia, you will have a nice framework in your brain to deal with them. And the best part: It is a small book. Don't hesitate to get it. You won't regret.

Good but not good enough!
This book does only provide some miner basic understanding of Na, K, and acid base pathophysiology and replacement. Other e-lytes such as magnesium, calcium, phosphor and especially the interaction of those is completely missing. The acid base part is ok for getting a basic understanding of whats going on.
Practically Life savor for both you and patient
I hardly anytime would give "5" stars to any products, but this just blew my doubts and misunderstanding out to pieces. I don't want to sound too explicit, but actually it's better than sex when you understand something and everything come to senses.

Useful and worth buying, butwith one major drawback
The content of this book is adequate and it is written in an easy-to-read, flowing style. It could use some more tables for comparison of immuno. panels to help in differential diagnoses, but over-all it is a decent and very helpful everyday reference.The index, however, has much to be desired.Many immunoperoxidase stains are not listed individually in a catalog style, nor are the specific cells/organs/organ structures that they stain, so unless you already know what entity a specific stain is used for or know alternate diagnoses or names, you may not be able to find it.You can't just look up a specific stain you may have heard about and want to research further.The index is a critical component of a well-written book and is just as important as text it represents--it's no use having a book full of information if you can't find what you need.I hope this issue is addressed in the next edition, in which case then, this book may reach the status of excellent.

Must Have Textbook
This reference is a must have! If you are a surgical pathologist and do not have this textbook you are setting yourself up to fail. It is extremely well written and with all the color photos it is a great value for the money. I probably use this text more than any other reference textbook. The insight gleened from reading this text has saved me on a number of challenging cases. The tables are excellent and easy to read. I can't wait for the next edition. ... Read more

This is, in my opinion THE BOOK for a pathologist dealing with dermatopathology. The writing is clear and crisp and I appreciate the morphologically-oriented classifications, instead of the more common admixture of ethiologic, morphologic and topographic attempts of classification, many of the categories meaning little to the morphologist. ... Professor thought all wrong!
Although my professor thought most of the information in the textbook was wrong, it was a great guide to use both online and in class.Great illustrations!

Not Recommended
I bought this book for my Anatomy and Physiology 1 class in college. It was the required book for the class and the first semester we were using it. Upon going through we found numerous problems with information in the book. For example, there is an illustration of a reflex on page 419 and the foot is on backwards (according to the direction of the spinal cord). This is only one of many, many small problems with the book.

Convoluted and confusing
This book is not the best as a textbook. Might be useful as a refresher or reference, but that's not what I had to use it for. It is wordy and is sometimes too detailed and sometimes not enough. It has no consistency, thanks to numerous authors. Also, the material is often outdated. Time to look for a different book.

Seeing it from clinical engineer eyes is different than seeing it from a biomedical engineer eyes; however, it is not as thoroughly covers topics as it seems from the author's repetition in the field.
Electronic Medical Instrumentation
As a coursebook, I found 'Medical Instrumentation' to be a sound survey of electrical medical diagnostic instrumentation.The book does review electrical therapeutic medical instrumentation; however, it's coverage is not as thorough.Read more

Excellent.A MUST for anyone in biochemistry and endocrine
This is by far the best written and illustrated book for pathways I have ever seen.If I was teaching a course, it would be absolutely required.

"Bichemical Pathways"...Great content, Poor Presentation
Comprehensive references of bochemical pathways are not common, especially with well described cofactors, modulators, and interactions with disparate pathways.This book could provide such a useful reference, unfortunately,the quality of the layout is so poor as to make it very difficult to read. Poor graphic quality, exceptionally small fonts, and poor color choicesrender what should be a most useful reference into a visually challengingdocument.At the price, the book is a disappointment, although the contentis great. Onewishes that the editors would rerelease it after completelyrevising the graphics and production quality, as the content is indeed veryuseful.

A struggling beginner
This book is a great needed idea. If you are using the accompanying text in your class this is a must have. BUT the authors decided in their wisdom to put questions in each section that are for discussion (3-4 pages for each chapter).Great right? They don't have any answers for the discussion questions! The given reason is that it will make you, the student, a better biochemist. Should you find study groups a waste of time (I do), then you read the text several times trying to find the right answer and are uncertain if you ever found it.

"The rest of the story.........."
This text portrays the basics of physiology with marginal success.Many of the tables, graphs, & cartoons leave out information that is critical for completion of the whole story.In order to properly understand, synthesize, and master medical school physiologic concepts, the use of this text demands supplementation of other physiology texts. I recommend the "Textbook of Medical Physiology" by Dr. Arthur Guyton. Although text supplementation is not an oddity for medical students, this text requires extra attention when compared to the other medical texts that I have encountered.I guess I have a hard time "getting right to the point" or "leaving out the unimportant details" as other reviewers have stated.I would like to think that medical school physiology, the basis of medicine, is not a course a future physician would attempt to cut corners on.
Great Text!
What a relief to have a physio text which gets right to the point without leaving the details behind. This book is a perfect balance between too little and too much. Towards the end of the course many of the students in my class had discovered this text and it was a "hot" commodity around school. Don't wait till the course is winding up, this is a great text to keep and keep as a reference. Totallt straight forward and EASY to read. I'm selling my Boron online!

Excellent source for PHYSIO review or 1st time coverage
Dr. Costanzo really does a good job breaking down complicated PHYSIO concepts into an easily readable format.The book has a bunch of helpful diagrams and charts to help drive key points home, and is a great resource for reviewing the fundamentals when trying to tie everything together for Boards. ... Excellent flashcards
Good pictures and explanations. I think these flashcards are the perfect tool for review of the muscles and the bones of the body. These flashcards give you the name of the muscle, the attachments and where the muscles originate from, and also the innervation and actions of the particular muscle.The different parts of the bones are labeled.Overall these cards are very helpful.

Okay...needs more than one muscle
These are okay, but it would be nice to have a few other muscles pictured (but just grayed out or something) to show its orientation with other muscles in the area.
