BURTON ROSE AGAIN IS EXCELLENT
FOR RESIDENT AND FELLOWS AS STAFF TOO, THE FIFTH EDITION OF BURTON ROSE IS EXCELLENT, COVERING BASIC CONCEPTS AS WELL AS ALL THE RECENT RESEARCH MEDICAL NEWS IN FHE FIELDOF FLUID AND ACID BASE PHYSIOLOGY.IT SHOULD BE RECOMENDED FOR PRIVATE AND PUBLIC MEDICAL LIBRARY.

Outstanding text, but consider "The essentials" for a lighter read
No doubt, this is a terrific textbook and is a great resource for Nephrology fellows, ICU fellows and general physiologists.However, for the med student or housestaff who would like to digest the basics of renal electrolyte handling and acid-base homeostasis, I'd like to recommend "Renal Pathophysiology the Essentials" by B.D. Rose and H.G. Rennke (ISBN: 0683073540). It is from 1994 and may lack some of the molecular details, but is an even more "readable" text.

The best in its field
I found this book to be very useful in understanding the subject of acid base and electrolyte disorders. I recommend it for all physicians especially those working in emergency room, intensive and cardiac care units. In fact it is very helpful for all doctors working in the different clinical fields. Should be on everyone's reading list
This book has changed the way I think about fats. It has taught me to bring my intake of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids into balance and to recognize the importance of the latter in my diet. Although the book contains rock-solid scientific documentation, it is easy to understand, and the plan it advocates is simple, nutritionally sound, and offers many appealing food options. For the past several months I have been following the guidelines in 'The Omega Diet,' choosing recipes from my large collection of cookbooks, particularly Sonia Uvezian's 'Recipes and Remembrances from an Eastern Mediterranean Kitchen,' which is one of the best cookbooks I have ever used. Uvezian provides health-conscious readers with a wealth of recipes for incredibly delicious, nutritious, and satisfying dishes that are quite compatible with the principles outlined by Dr. Simopoulos. The results have been impressive. I feel great and have even lost some weight without trying! It is a pleasure to be true to this diet, which is one you can enjoy all your life with a clear conscience.

This book is a classic, and will be for a long time !!!The best way to eat healthy, and stay strong. Many of her predictions have already come true - i.e omega -3 eggs, canola oil in many foods. Has worked to maintain my weight for several years, and great cholesterol levels.

A great book - information overload
This is a very useful reference to have if you work extensively on HPLC.I find its of more use to understand concepts ...there is a lot of information here. Plactical and Rational method Development!
Rational Method development for HPLC is resented. Instruction of rational development of 3-solvent separation system is excellent. This book also has useful know-hows and tools in practical laboratory experiments, such as strength of hydrogen bonding of base silica and nomograph for estimation of"solvent strength" for reversed phase HPLC.

Some part of the book has great content
The only thing I dont like about his book is that in the beginning, it tends to explain in redundant words, which I think is not necessary to be put on the book. Some other parts have great concepts, but I wish there would be a little more detail on that. Otherwise, it explains very well.

"Guyton" is synonymous with "Physiology"
Dr. Guyton is a giant in the world of medicine and science. He left a legacy of teaching generations of physicians. In addition, he raised 10 children, all of them are medical doctors in different specialties.
OK for a reference manual
If you know the physiology, and want to review, get a little deeper, then OK, BUT COME ON. Have the other reviewers used this book to learn physiology from. The writing is horrible, the book needs an editor. Perhaps the writers should have taken some more writing classes, and less physiology when they were in college.
More than a textbook
It's amazing when a person understands their material with such a firm grasp and can then further back it with the organizational skills and creativity necessary to produce a book. This literally borders on art. It is smooth, has a natural progression and the writing is perfectly concise and illuminating.

Excellent Pathophysiology book
This is an excellent pathophysiology book available in the market. I am right now preparing for my step 2 but I wish I would have used this book for my step 1. I have a decent score on my step 1 and I have taken the exam recently and I think if somebody masters this book they can rock the exam. This book gives excellent information regarding many diseases. I am trying to study this book right now with CMDT, which is also by the same author. Because CMDT is a very concise text book of IM it doesn't explain all the pathophysiology for a disease but this book has all the answers about the pathophysiology of a disease. And I think its a worth buying book for all the medical students, if you study this book little by little during preclinical years it will help you very much understand the IM in the clinical years. I was surprize to find some infornation which I was craving for since few years of my med school. You will even find pathophysilogy of very rare syndromes, as for example I was amazed when I read about X linked Hypophosphatemic rickets. If you are like me who wants to have explanation behind everything, get this book today, you wan't be disappointed.

This is, hands down, the best review book for step 1.It is not wordy. There is not a lot of fluff. You can probably read the entire book in just a few days with good retention.Works well in combination with First Aid for boards.

Never thought of it before.
I'm a former teacher, current family lawyer, mother of a nine year old, and homeschooled last year. My daughter's current tutor recommended this book, and a lot of pieces are beginning to fall into place. Coordination, reluctance to ride a bike. I wish I'd had this book 10 years ago.

Great Resource
This book is easy to follow and is a great resource for those interested in improving functioning, particularly in children.The brain research included in the book is outstanding, maybe a little overwhelming for a lay person not used to reading this type of information, but made to be as user friendly as possible.One school I'm in has used some of the basic principles presented in the book with noticeable positive results in a very short time.This book is worth the money and time spent reading.

Schaum's Outline of Genetics
It is very informative and a great reference for the study of genetics and related studies.

The Stansfield/Elrod outline remains as comprehensive as any of the intro to genetics textbooks currently available.At about 10-15% the cost of the "standard" texts, this outline delivers the same material with more clarity, and often more accuracy.The concepts of classical genetics, which often prove more challenging for students than molecular aspects, are covered admirably in this book.While those who enjoy colorful illustration and pastel text boxes might be disappointed, the b&w figures in this book are extremely clear, logical and most importantly helpful towards learning the material.No solution manual or supplemental CD-ROM is required.Highly recommended as a reference, or as a text for general genetics classes.

A TRUE GOD SEND
This is one THE best books I have ever read about Lupus. As a Lupus sufferer, it is important to know aspects of this illnesses. This book goes from the diagnostic phaze to the definition of and the treatment of Lupus. It is very detailed and concise in its approach. Doctor Wallace must be one heck of a rheumatologist because he took very complex subject matter and made it coherent for the average American. This book is filled with information on various treatments for Lupus, a prolifera of testing procedures and an explanation of co exsisting autoimmune diseases. Any individual with Lupus, their families, physicians and social workers should have this truly well constructed text!

This book is one of the best out there on Lupus.Mr. Wallace disects the disease into many parts because Lupus had many frustrating facets to it.After reading this book, I am going to talk to my doctor who does not think that I have Lupus, because I don't fit neatly into a box.I can't wait to tell this doctor that my last blood test showed the anitphospholipid levels were extremely high.I noticed it, he didn't.Thank you Mr. Wallace for naming the symptoms, and the cause of it.My "gut feeling" was right.

A "Must Have"for the Physician's reference library
This text is a very complete reference for all the malformations, disruptions and dysmorphologies which affect the craniomaxillofacial region along with the associated clinical findings.It illustrates the etiologies and clinical findings very well with relevant pictures, and most importantly, the literature references which the authors used for each specific syndrome.

Horrible Book
Absolutely horrible book. Chapters are written very poorly. They don't follow a pattern, but if I had to say there were one it would be tell you the big picture first so you have no idea what they're talking about then go into detail about each of the units and then after you've read the whole chapter you find it useful to reread the beginning again because you now know what the authors are talking about. Inconsistent use of vocabulary as well, they talk in colloquial terms and then all of the sudden use the word 'nascent' for instance, then you never see the word again. Nothing wrong with such things but the lack of consistency in the book makes it extremely poor in my opinion. Very poorly written, the information is there but organization is pathetic
