Wonderful book.Got an A on my test!
This is a wonderful book.Fluid & Electrolytes is a very complex subject and this book was able to simplify and reiterate important topics. The book went over essential topics such as electrolyte imbalances, acid-base imbalances, fluid shifts and made it interesting to learn all at the same time.I highly recommend this book to nursing students.

mistakes
I am currently a medical student, and Physiology is on our required texts list.It's an awful read.Very dry, very dense.Difficult to keep interested from one scattered clinical tidbit to the next.PLUS,there were multiple mistakes in just the few chapters I made myself go through.Thinking about petitioning for a new text listing for next year's class...

Very good book!
I study pharmacy in University of Brasilia and this book is great for all the organic systems except nervous. This is the book adopted in courses of Physio 1 and 2, and this was a good choice. I THINK NOT ONLY MEDICAL STUDENTS CAN READ IT AND THEY CAN LEARN MANY THINGS IN BOTH MACROSCOPIC AND MICROSCOPIC SCALES. The text includes the molecular processes that are so important to be understood by us. The book is very deep really, and if you want to learn to your life and job, not only to pass a test, it's excellent. However, I didn't like the order of the subjects, for me it's easier to understand reading the biophysical foundations first and the consequences after. For example, in section of Cardiovascular System, the chapter of Hemodynamics is after many comments about velocity, pression and flux of blood that cannot be understood without biophysical comments.

I have updated to the new edition
I bought the first edition of this book after transfering from a multisystem ICU to a neuro-surgical ICU. I have found it to be a very Nurse friendly book. I have several resources for neuro, some are very complex.Joanne Hickey has put together information on a very cerebral topic that is for Nurses from novice to expert.

Love neuroscience-get this book!
The Clinical Practice of Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing is an excellent overview of the care and management of the neuroscience patient. It's perspective is largely that of neurosurgery/ trauma nursing and is focused predominately on the acute phases of care. This text is arranged topically by disease/ injury process with the introductory chapters oriented towards concerns in neuroscience nursing. The depth and breadth of the material is suitable to meet my needs in the neuro-intensive care unit of the Level I trauma center in which I work. Makes a difficult topic very approachable
This is a very well produced book wilth many illustrations which make histology, a topic I've taught but never mastered, make more sense.While the book is very approachable, it is still very much in-depth and if you are looking for a more introductory text, you may want to consider getting an atlas to begin.However, medical and graduate students would do very well with this text since it bridges the molecular mechanisms active in cells to the microscopic structure of tissues and organs.It also brings the microscopic structure and function into view regarding the gross anatomical perspective as well, giving a top-to-bottom appraisal of histology.This would have been a five-star rating if only the pages were not so whispy that my highlighter bled through to the other side of the page repeatedly.Students, buy this book with confidence, but underline rather than highlight!

This is the best histology book I have seen. Good for molecular biology researchers as well-better then many standard textbooks. Very good discussions of development of cell types as well as structural histology.

Comprehensive in scope
I read this book with the expectation that it would give me an idea of the extent to which organism traits or phenotypes are determined optimally. Discussions on evolution frequently regard the functioning and attributes of an organism as being optimal at the particular time in its evolutionary history. Everything you need to know in one place
This book complements the textbook well. It also includes some things that are not in the text, such as working with the electron microscope and so on. A good way to prepare for your lab exams and test your knowledge of the information. I definitely recommend it :)

Excellent introductory text on Proteins
This is a great introductory text on protein science. It starts off with the basic chemistry of amino acids and polypeptides and goes from there into higher order structural organization of many proteins of many families. Reading this book allows one to think about protein function being a direct result of what the structure imposes. Although this is not a protein chemistry book, it's a great place to start appreciating how proteins do what they do following some elegant design principles.
Basics of Protein Structure - Great for revision!
I used this book a lot for one of my undergraduate courses three years back.It's excellent at explaining the fundamentals of protein structure, it's written very clearly and the diagrams are easy to understand and appropriate.I found it particularly useful when studying immunology, the explanation of immunoglobulin structure, splicing, and mechanism of action was better than some of the other textbooks I used from the library.I finally bought a copy as reference and to aid revision of some basics while applying for research associate positions within the biochemistry field.

50's Medical Terms meet the Modern Artist
This book was purchased as required for class. The verbage in the textbook is reminiscent of the types of medical textbooks originating from the 50's.However, once you get past that, the diagrams and sketches are very in depth and descriptive.
Excellent book
This book has everything and more as far as anatomy for artists goes. The book is complete with excellent illustrations from real pictures to life like illustrations that capture the essence and meaning in the human form as conceptualized by the artist. A definite must have for any artist intrested in the human form.

If you had one general genetics book, this would be it.
Thompson and Thompson is in my opinion, the best book of its kind out there. Many general texts have popped up in the last five or ten years that try to cover medical genetics broadly (a large topic of course) but T&Tis the best. A more recent edition would be nice. ... Read more

Irrelevant to the real GRE Biochem test
I do not recomment this book, after I glanced through it I never touched it again; it will neither help you learn something, nor give you any idea what the real test is. Buy ETS book to get the idea of what kind of questions occur on the test, and prepare for the test using several big textbooks on these three subjects as well as your lecture notes.

Great med school book
My required reading text for Immunology was the Goldsby Immunology. After exhausting myself digging through sentences like "Protein A, with seven subunits designated 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, with respective molecular weights of 43, 32, 75, 12, 65, 12, and 76, binds inside a 14-Angstrom cleft in Protein B, proved by Researchers Smith and Jones in 1986 using wing-dangled gel electrophoresis..." I switched to this text, which is more like "Protein A binds to Protein B."
Great book for med school
This is a required book for my first year of med school and had proved very informative for my specific class.I use it mostly as reference at this point but may prove to use it more in the future.
