if you have to throw away $150...
If you actually buy this book you're paying for the illustrations. Don't waste your time actually reading it, the presentation of the material is ponderous and completely unimaginative. The chapter on immunology is one of the worst I've seen anywhere.
X and Y chromosomes
A more serious omission is the absense of the x chromosome from the glossarythough that y is there, unconsciously reinforcingthat men are incomplete females?Males come equipped with beefed up sixpacks whereas the woman look like demurelittle housewives. Artists havetried to depict other races but thegender representation is pathetic. Aheterosexist pro-male interpretation of human sexuality is foundthroughout the book, which can be annoying.Some of the comments obviously written with students in mindare patronizing. The layout is repetitious andand at times quite unstimulating.The best detail was why a chicken breast is white considering its a muscle.

laughable omission
How can this really be an Anatomy and Physiology textbook written by a Phd?There is not one picture or drawing of a male foreskin (prepuce). One does not have to wonder why the medical community is so ill prepared to deal with a normal male body. ... Read more

Nice and Well Organized Book.
I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy.
Tolerable
This book has some useful diagrams and illustrations.It's easy to read, but seems a bit too simplified at times.Also, I think the editors were a bit lax on the writing, personally.The CD quizes are helpful for review.

Informative and highly understandable textbook

helpful, but needed more examples
I used book for my Yoga Teacher training course. Learning the larger muscles is easy, but the smaller more detailed, deeper muscles is diffucult. This book really illustrated these wonderfully!
great book
The pictures are really good, and the writing is quite clear. I am a graduate student in Movement Science, so am interested in the scientific aspects of movement. This book is an excellent bridge between the dancer/movement specialist and the biomechanics student.

They got it right with this one...
This book is a fabulous learning tool.The authors really seem to understand what parts need detailed explanation and the information is presented in a way that a student can grasp it easily.
Great overall perspective
Although our professor barely used the book for class, this book was very well laid out, starts off at a good pace and is easy to understand. I especially enjoyed the case studies in real life anatomy problems and real world applications of what we learned. Excellent Book
this book is awsome it has everything cover for every body system.., its very well explained, has great pictures, great diagrams, great color for diferent parts of the book, divisions, quizes, questions ... its a super book mainly for understanding simple concepts that in other books are very bad explained or with a lot of text.. This book explains the important stuff not with a lot of details as other books you will understand quickly.... Excellent for medschool, i use it for a first reading on the subject and then after understandig the subject and having an idea of it.I read other physiology book and add stuff that didn't mentioned to my notes.
Best Anatomy and Physiology Textbook
I used the third edition of this textbook when I was enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology I and II in college twenty three years ago. It is still used by the college I attended. The present edition (11th edition) which I purchased is the number one Anatomy and Physiology textbook. It explains every anatomical term and concept very well. The artwork is fabulous in showing the Anatomy and different Physiological processes. It is the best Anatomy and Physiology textbook for a two semester Anatomy and Physiology course.

Hole's Anatomy & Physiology
I ordered this text book through Amazon because the school book store was out.In my past experiences with Amazon, I have been able to receive the same product, faster and sometimes cheaper.In this case, all was true except the book store book came with a very necessary CD, the book with Amazon did not.

good!
This was a very good book for coursework, especially since the syllabus from BOD wasn't that good. For the boards, I just skimmed this book, particularly paying attention to the end of chapter summaries...I read through first aid biochem, and any topic I felt was hard to grasp i would re-read it in lippincotts. recommend this for boards when studying pathways... rememeber only study and read about pathways that are represented in first aid...and pay attention to rate limiting reactions!!!

LWW Illustrated Biochem
An excellent book for coursework in both undergrad and first year medschool, plus the tie-in with LWW Illus. Pharm. is a great duet.Our first year biochem was horribly taught, this book helped immensely, and look forward to using it for quick reference review in year 2 and Board study.

How to Treat Your Illness or Disease with Relevant Herbs
Dr. Peter D'Adamo has written a very interesting adjunct to his superb book, Live Right 4 Your Type. If you have already read that earlier book, you will find this book adds to your knowledge by letting you know about the latest research about the statistical correlations of various diseases and illnesses to those with various blood types. I wrote down the illnesses that I have more frequently than other people I know, and the diseases I have experienced before reading this book. I checked my experience against what the book reports, and found a high correlation (I have had two additional problems not typical of my Type O blood, and have not experienced three problems often associated with Type O people). I did the same for my wife, who has a different blood type, and found that her pattern reasonably closely matched what is described in the book as well. Then, the book has an excellent discussion of why people with each blood type can be affected differently by each illness or disease. You are also given extensive suggestions for herbal therapies that match your herb type. I have not had experiences with the herbs that were suggested for me, so I cannot comment on how relevant they are. If you already use herbs to improve conditions, you will probably adore this book. If you don't use many herbs, you will probably appreciate understanding more about the potential strengths and weaknesses of your blood chemistry. The book is quite thorough in providing articles you can read for more details, and where to access these articles on-line. If you have not read Live Right 4 Your Type, you will find that this book covers almost the same background material but at a much higher level of abstraction. There is a fairly complete discussion of how blood types seem to have developed and what their chemical implications are. In other ways, the book is quite complete in similarity to the earlier ones. For example, you get the food indications for each blood type, essentially like the information in both Eat Right 4 Your Type and Live Right 4 Your Type. Many people are skeptical about Dr. D'Adamo's work. I found him careful about what he had to say. For example, he notes that the risk charts in the book describe how blood type "in conjunction with other factors . . . may be [associated with] an increased risk for developing a certain disease." As to the diseases and illnesses, I was impressed to see how much different cancers were broken down by the part of the body affected while different infections were also segmented. I always find it helpful to keep the research-based associations to blood type in mind when I read other books about nutrition, health, and diseases. Perhaps someday other health authors will add this perspective to their work, as well. Until then, I am very grateful to Dr. D'Adamo for helping me understand how to make the most out of being a Type O person! How can you turn your strengths and weaknesses into resources for improving the quality of your life . . . and those you care about? Keep your mind and your body full of the most helpful resources you can add!

An Excellent Text
If you have been dabbling in cognitive psychology and brain science, have found it interesting and are looking for a broad yet in-depth treatment then this book will not dissapoint you.It approaches Neuroscience from every possible angle: you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the brain and how it produces, controls and mediates the sensory, motor and emotional functions that underlie human experience.The layout of the text is logical, it uses great pedagogical tools, and the writing is concise and informative (if a little dry).Highly recommended as a first textbook for serious study.

A Brief Review of "Neuroscience"
I just finished using this book for an undergradutate Neurobiology class at Harvard University, and found it to be very informative. It has a number of diagrams and illustrations, and clearly describes various aspects of neuroscience in great detail,but in a comprehensive manor. I recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in neuroscience.

Not a definitive resource
This book has had praise heaped upon it by previous reviewers.I'd like to put that in perspective.As an undergraduate text or a general encyclopedic reference for the unitiated, this book is reasonably comprehensive and contains substantial high-quality illustrations.However as a reference for more advanced students, there is insufficient detail to motivate serious discussion.I find "Principles of Neural Science" by Kandel, Schwartz, and Jessell far more useful despite being a year older than Bear, et al.If the goal is to lift artwork for a pleasingly graphical PowerPoint presentation, this book is a fantastic resource, but if you want more than jargon and an introduction to the topic (albeit comprehensive), I'd look elsewhere. ... missing alot of detail....
Wow, I am really suprised this book garnered as much positive feedback as it has. I am a nursing major, and I was apalled at the lack of detail in this book. I ended up using the A&P text from my 201 class for the majority of this class. Maybe it was the questions my instructor asked, but I constanatly had to go to other sources in order to find the information I needed. If anyone finds themself in this situation, Ken Saladin's text by the same name is the best!!!

Best A&P book for nursing majors
This is a required reading text for anatomy and physiology I and II at the college I attend, and I have nothing but praise for the author and illustrators of this book.It is as comprehensive as A&P can get, and as difficult as the material is to learn, it is broken down into systems so that it is not too overwhelming.

Must Have for A&P Students
This is a great resource for anyone in A&P. Most topics are easy to follow and to understand. There are a few errors (or, that's what my A&P instructor told me), but not enough to worry about. I love Marieb's writing style. She also includes tons of pictures and charts. I love this book and it's going to be a wonderful resource once I'm a nurse!

Great for A and P students, must buy
I used this book for both my Anatomy and Physiology class in undergrad.I found this book to be pretty easy to understand.Of course, at first it is overwhelming to know how much you have to remember for the test.At least, writing style of this book made A and P easier to learn.The material is presented in organized fashion.However, if you really want to know the type of questions asked on college Anatomy and Physiology Exams get the following which is on amazon: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Volume 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Volume 2 (ISBN: 0971999627).These two helped me to get A's on my exams.The textbook and the two study guides are well worth the money since they helped me to pass with high grades the first time.I was recommened the study guides from my cousin who used them for his A and P class and found them to be great for test preparation.I give each book 5 stars. ... THE BOOK IS GOOD BUT THE CD ROM IN NOT IN DEPTH ENOUGH.I WISH THAT IT HAD MORE INTERACTIVE MATERIAL.
Almost Perfect
Leaving asside it's exhorbitant price, this is an excellent text book.The subject is covered clearly and consisely and the charts, photos, and illustrations are clear and bright. The only area that needs improvement in my opinion is the vocabulary, which would be much more usefull if it was presented in the side-bars like it is in many texts.

Essential for A&P Students.

A sound, commonsense guide to massive energy increases and weight loss
This is just an excellent book.I have an older copy and it starts off with a full chapter of testimonies from happy customers.The author defends herself and the diet vigorously which surprised me -everyone I know who has followed it says it works miracles.
Not quite what I had hoped
This was not what I was really looking for, as the title of this review may have suggested. I did learn a few things, and the diet itself looks interesting, though I have not tried it. But to me, the book was more self-promoting than educational. I was hoping for more facts, supported by statistics, and studies, rather it was if the author was trying to show her colleagues that her ideas were valid. They may be, I am not in any position to argue, but I was hoping for more information on the liver itself, and the possible disorders. I found only one paragraph with my condition discussed.
Not good for people with digestive troubles!
Unless your diet is presently terrible, this book probably won't help you if you have candida, celiac disease, crohn's, ulcerative colitis, IBD, or IBS. Cabot limits meats and encourages non-gluten grains. Those of us with many kinds of digestive disorders cannot digest starches and disacharides (double sugars). I followed the Liver Cleansing Diet strictly for three weeks, but the inclusion of grains, sweet potatoes, corn, and soy made my symptoms worse than they had been before I started her diet. My bloating became so bad on this diet that I looked six months pregnant and getting worse. I eliminated soy and corn but to no avail. I then switched to Elaine Gottshall's Carbohydrate Specific Diet (Breaking the Vicious Cycle) and started feeling better within two days. My belly is board flat now, my skin looks better, my mood is good, and digestion feels so much better - after only one week! I wish I had found Gottshall years ago.

Simple to understand, not a boring textbook.
I was assigned this book for my A and P classes at my university.I found it to be quite complete as the previous reviewer said.I also liked the writing style since it was not in hard language.Although some anatomy words are hard at first to learn like styloid and mastoid, I found the text to be easy to learn the information from.I also found two great study guides which really helped me get the grades I wanted.I discovered them from a classmate of mine.They are:

Ganong writes an excellent and complete review of physiology.This is a great text if you are already familiar with phys and if you want to refresh or want a reference.This is a tough text for studying physiology for the first time.Very indepth in most areas of physiology.The chapters on repro phys aren't stellar, but most other areas are great.Very logical procession.This is a must have for all those studying/researching (grad students and onwards) areas that involve physiology. ... Great Biochem book
I had this textbook for Biochem 1 and 2 and I thought it was excellent. It went in-depth when it was needed.The authors choose to leave out some reactions (using multiple arrows) and I thought that was great because it wasn't really needed in most cases.Sometimes there were questions though on how to get to one structure from the last.Pictures were great and really helped to picture what was going on.

I really like this book.It does a great job of explaining the topics in detail, yet not too esoteric that one without a background in either biology or chemistry won't be able to understand.I have neither and I feel I am progressing along well.

Amazing.
As I read this book, I get the "eureka!"-feeling at nearly every turn of page. It all seems so logical when Myers lays it out. This book has really sparked my interest for Structural Integration therapy and I am going to order all of the Anatomy Trains DVDs - the first three are already on the way. I can also heartily recommend Ida P. Rolf's books on Structural Integration - she's the originator and (or should that be "but") is easily understood, just like Myers.

They advertise the wrong item
In the search and title it says Human Physiology: From cell to systems by Sherwood. It is not this is an study guide to accompany the textbook. Also when are reciever in the front page say clearly textbook not included. The name of this is Cram101 Textbook Outlines. I am very dissapointed because now I have to return this wait for my money back in the meanwhile order the texctbook elsewhere.
