5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully done and accessible neuroanatomy text.
This is one of several books I bought while in med school studyingneuroscience. This is a beautiful text, with wonderful drawings, good useof catscans and MRIs, and an excellent layout. It helped me considerably tolearn the anatomy of the spinal cord and brain. Since I am deaf and theycouldn't deal with it in a classroom (looking down at microscopes does notmake lipreading easy or help my interpreters)...they sent me to the morguewith medical students and nursing students. This book provided thebackground I needed to do well in this situation, because the drawings wereexplicit enough to be recognizeable when presented with the real thing. Ialso use this book with deaf students who I hope to encourage to go intoscience. The drawings always get them interested enough to ask questions, and that is what good science is about. Karen Sadler, Science Education,University of Pittsburgh

5-0 out of 5 stars Well rounded
John H., Phd Martin constructed a well-rounded neuroanatomical textbook. The material covers every anatomical aspect of the n.s. including chapters on embryonic development and vascular anatomy. The text is continuously tied in with detailed images (ct, mri, & myelin stained slices ofc.n.s.).The reading material is exceptionaly easy for its class.Thebook gets very detailed, and will make you a leading source onneuroanatomy.Author comment: "Even though this book came out a fewyears back in '96, the material today is still very similar and they do notget any user-friendlier."

4-0 out of 5 stars Dental Assistant
This book is very good. After being a chairside dental assistant for twenty years and on the job training, this is excellent for training someone in from scratch (which I am about to do). It is very detailed in some areas that an assistant does not necessarily use, but answers the mental questions about the Doctors procedures that one might never ask. It also teaches the basics and the in depth information that one would learn and want to refer back to that evening to review. It is a great book to have "before" you begin the job, so once you begin, you can understand the what and the why of the procedure. You will need to practice the hands on techniques that the book illistrates, and you will be on a roll! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Book - a must BUY
The author takes an revolutionary approach to restoring anterior teeth, a Biomimetic approach. The author goes back to basics and studies nature i.e. the form and function of natural teeth. He then studies how each tissue (dentine/enamel) behaves mechanically (when loaded) and where the forces and stresses concentrate. These findings then lay the foundation as to how teeth should be restored i.e. should they be restored so they are as strong as nature (mimic natures strength) or stronger. The author tends to favour the former approach, and goes about outlining materials and design principles that will achieve this result. He presents an extremely interesting method and commonsense approach to restoring teeth.By reading this book, it allows us to reflect upon the potential disasters (verticle root fractures, decorination) that may be caused by restoring teeth in the traditional way (crowns & posts) whereby making them stronger than nature.

5-0 out of 5 stars You must have this book
This book is a must have if you enjoy doing bonded porcelain restorations and you want to see how a master does it. The lab work is unbelievable and the photography is excellent. Its like having an Ansel Adams book: you have to see how the best do it so that you have something to aspire to.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dawson text substantiated in general and radiologic practice
As a private practice general dentist for 18 years and an academic and practicing oral maxillofacial radiologist for 16 years I have experienced and seen that the TMJ, occlusion and musculature must function in concert in order for the patient to be comfortable.Dr. Dawson's book nicely organizes these fundamental concepts necessary for accurate diagnosis and treatment of the teeth and oral structures.I recommend this book to my pre- and post doctoral students.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Dawson's Method's Completely Wrong & Harmful
Dr. Peter Dawson's method's are completely wrong and harmful and based on a concept that has long been proven to be seriously wrong.Centric relation as defining the correct spacing for condyle within the temporomandibular joint is completely wrong and anyone using this long outdated philosophy is injuring patients. For decades now the anatomy of the TM joint has been known and properly understood which has proven the concept of centric relation to be completely wrong and not consistant with proper joint positioning or optimum jaw joint health and no health professional, especially a dental professional, should ever push or put pressure on a patient's jaw as it CAUSES TMJ injuries.Dr. Dawson's theory that pushing on a patient's jaw and them reporting any pain caused by this procedure DIAGNOSES TMJ injuries is ridiculous as the action itself is causing the TMJ injuries that he claims this action diagnoses! Pain is the universal understood sign of injury and it is insane of Dr. Dawson to think this procedure, which causes pain as it directly injures the jaw joint since it does not naturally move the way Dr. Dawson instructs dentists to manipulate it to, diagnoses an injury when the jaw is not supposed to move this way in the first place and the pain he describes as a sign of a pre-existing injury...is actual a sign of an injury caused to the patient from doing this procedure.Any dental professional stupid enough to not see through the nonsense in this book and to follow it's methods deserves to have their license taken away as they are clearly injuring patients when there is abundant information available to them to show them that Dr. Dawson's methods and completely wrong. This book is a lesson in what NOT to do and should never be seen as valid or legitamate.

1-0 out of 5 stars The cheaper edicion is horrible
I bought theWheeler's Dental Anatomy, Physiology and Occlusion thinking that I was buying a pretty new edicion of a book with a CD and color pictures. What I recieved at home was an old book with horrible black and white pictures and an awful redaction. I don't know how newest edition is, but I am shure that this old one is almost not a text book.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Dental Anatomy Book Should Not Be Without
Unfortunately some of the reviewers are steeped in subjective reality and probably the users and promoters of another dental anatomy text. In a period of evidence based dental education and practice, a book without much of a refernce base is outdated; a book with out a CD is outdated; a book without a good index is hardly useful; a book without the latest information on dental anatomy is outdated; and a book without facts to build on is no book at all.
1-0 out of 5 stars Wheeler is no Netter!
This book is wordy and lacks organization. It is full of awkward sentences, rambling paragraphs and has no sense of continuity. The diagrams are not labeled, of low quality and seemingly outdated. There are much better anatomy references out there and I suggest looking into the other literature. Wheeler's text simply demonstrates the need for a Frank Netter of sorts- someone who can do for Oral Anatomy what Dr. Netter did for Gross Anatomy. I'm actually considering writing my own text one day so that future students will be able to spend more time focusing on anatomy rather than the minutia and distractions that this book is full of. If you need to learn Oral Anatomy this is not the book that will help. ... Read more
