A must have
The second edition is even better than the first one. It is a must for every ENT, Plastic and OMFS residents. Also would be helpful for surgeons in practice to review.

Great new second edition!
I am an Army Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and just looked through my new second edition.I have used this book for several years now, through residency, and have found it to be very helpful.The new 2nd edition is much better with updated photos and illustrations, new approaches, and great explanations.I have shared this book with my ENT/Head & Neck Surgery and Plastic Surgery colleagues.I recommend this text to residents, fellows and practitioners.

For dent stds who are interested in OMFS & OMFS residents
I previewed this book at my school's library and was recommended to me by an OMFS resident during my externship.After flipping through the pages, the illustrations were precise and the surgical approaches and step are spelled out in detail.It was a great to see specific procedures, steps, and illustrations in this reference text after I've seen it in the OR.I've heard that Dr. Ellis is currently working on the 2nd edition of this text due out in August 2005.Can't wait to get my hands on a copy of that edition!Good luck locating a copy of the current edition, it's out-of-print and no online bookstores have this book in stock. ... Simple, non-invasive cure!
It's hard to believe that suffering so long with jaw pain could be alleviated so quickly by just doing some simple exercises! I was pain-free in two weeks, and now I only notice pain during times of stress when I must be unconsciously grinding. Then I resume the exercises and once again, the pain disappears! Try these exercises before you take any other action! Some 'cures' make the problem worse, and this is such a simple, inexpensive, and affective solution!

Dawson text substantiated in general and radiologic practice
As a private practice general dentist for 18 years and an academic and practicing oral maxillofacial radiologist for 16 years I have experienced and seen that the TMJ, occlusion and musculature must function in concert in order for the patient to be comfortable.Dr. Dawson's book nicely organizes these fundamental concepts necessary for accurate diagnosis and treatment of the teeth and oral structures.I recommend this book to my pre- and post doctoral students.

Dr. Dawson's Method's Completely Wrong & Harmful
Dr. Peter Dawson's method's are completely wrong and harmful and based on a concept that has long been proven to be seriously wrong.Centric relation as defining the correct spacing for condyle within the temporomandibular joint is completely wrong and anyone using this long outdated philosophy is injuring patients.For decades now the anatomy of the TM joint has been known and properly understood which has proven the concept of centric relation to be completely wrong and not consistant with proper joint positioning or optimum jaw joint health and no health professional, especially a dental professional, should ever push or put pressure on a patient's jaw as it CAUSES TMJ injuries.Dr. Dawson's theory that pushing on a patient's jaw and them reporting any pain caused by this procedure DIAGNOSES TMJ injuries is ridiculous as the action itself is causing the TMJ injuries that he claims this action diagnoses! Pain is the universal understood sign of injury and it is insane of Dr. Dawson to think this procedure, which causes pain as it directly injures the jaw joint since it does not naturally move the way Dr. Dawson instructs dentists to manipulate it to, diagnoses an injury when the jaw is not supposed to move this way in the first place and the pain he describes as a sign of a pre-existing injury...is actual a sign of an injury caused to the patient from doing this procedure.Any dental professional stupid enough to not see through the nonsense in this book and to follow it's methods deserves to have their license taken away as they are clearly injuring patients when there is abundant information available to them to show them that Dr. Dawson's methods and completely wrong.This book is a lesson in what NOT to do and should never be seen as valid or legitamate.

Great source!
This book is wonderful. The first few chapters especially, taught me so much about the anatomy and mechanics of the TMJ. This book is a great addition to a dentist's library!

Good but overpriced
I believe this bood does a very good job in explaining the functional aspects of occlusion and the TM joint.My only concern is that for the price, I would expect a book with color photographs and maybe even a CD-rom.That being said, I think the information and organization is great.

Something for everyone!
This book is an enormous help and reference to me whenever I have to do the family's teeth (I find it saves money - my wife does the haircuts), though there are some issues around acute temporomandibular disorders and chronic pain management that I do not feel are fully addressed.I fully agree with the reviewer from Columbia. ... Very handy
Very well organized, such that finding information is very easy. The content is very applicable and useful. Four starts just becauseI find the "quick consult" points unnecessary as the text is quite well put together and the information is easy to find - just picky, I guess.

This is the best TMD book I have ever read!

Horrible BOOK!Do Not buy
Do not buy this book, it is basically just a depressive book.By Dr. Uppgaard's book instead, this dentist is a pessimistic dentist so stay away from this book and his "knowledge".

TMJ: The Self-Help Program
Very useful information. I live in a remote town and it's 3 hours to the nearest doctor who treats TMJ. The self help info really helped me treat myself. I bought two products the book recommended and was able to stop the headaches.

Dealing with TMJ

Exceptional text on Maxillofacial imaging
This text fills a vacuum in the diagnostic radiology for dentistry. The strength of the book lies in vast amount of high quality images. Most of the cases start with a panoramic radiograph or a periapical film, and then proceed to CT or MRI imaging. Exactly the way an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist will approach a case. An excellent book with very useful information
Dr.Goddard, who practices at the University of California, San Francisco Center for TMD, has written an excellent and very useful book for anyone who has a TMJ disorder.He provides an overview of the disorder and afirst-rate self-care section with many tips on how to manage the problem. This is a must-read book for anyone who suffers from TMJ.
