Dental Assistant
This book is very good. After being a chairside dental assistant for twenty years and on the job training, this is excellent for training someone in from scratch (which I am about to do). It is very detailed in some areas that an assistant does not necessarily use, but answers the mental questions about the Doctors procedures that one might never ask. It also teaches the basics and the in depth information that one would learn and want to refer back to that evening to review. It is a great book to have "before" you begin the job, so once you begin, you can understand the what and the why of the procedure. What a Book - a must BUY
The author takes an revolutionary approach to restoring anterior teeth, a Biomimetic approach.The author goes back to basics and studies nature i.e. the form and function of natural teeth.He then studies how each tissue (dentine/enamel) behaves mechanically (when loaded) and where the forces and stresses concentrate.These findings then lay the foundation as to how teeth should be restored i.e. should they be restored so they are as strong as nature (mimic natures strength) or stronger.The author tends to favour the former approach, and goes about outlining materials and design principles that will achieve this result.He presents an extremely interesting method and commonsense approach to restoring teeth.By reading this book, it allows us to reflect upon the potential disasters (verticle root fractures, decorination) that may be caused by restoring teeth in the traditional way (crowns & posts) whereby making them stronger than nature.

This book is a must have if you enjoy doing bonded porcelain restorations and you want to see how a master does it. The lab work is unbelievable and the photography is excellent. Most used textbook during my residencies!
This was an invaluable book that I only glanced at a few times during dental school, but during both my hospital based-general practice residency and pediatric residency was my constant guide.It provides both medical and dental management for most encountered problems that patients present with and has lots of great quick reference tables!

Took entirely to long to get book!!
I purchased the book Aug.28. Why should I have to pay for 2-3 day shipping when I just got the book 1 week ago!! I will never order from Amazon again. The only positive thing about it was the book was in the shape described.

Great source!
This book is wonderful. The first few chapters especially, taught me so much about the anatomy and mechanics of the TMJ. This book is a great addition to a dentist's library!

Good but overpriced
I believe this bood does a very good job in explaining the functional aspects of occlusion and the TM joint.My only concern is that for the price, I would expect a book with color photographs and maybe even a CD-rom.That being said, I think the information and organization is great.

Something for everyone!

LOVED IT
I had to get this book for school, and I am glad that I had to get it because I used it so much, in every class, referenced it many times for homework assignments and for term papers.

Dr. Wilkins is amazing!
I attended a lecture given by Dr. Wilkins and had my 8th edition text autographed.She is a vivacious, wonderful woman and gave me the refresher I needed.The book is a wonderful part of what it means to be a dental hygienist.To see so many different editions (and so many matching gel pens) carried into the lecture hall was amazing.Truly a book treasured by the prudent dental hygienist.

First modern educational tool in dental health for children.
This is the first book of its kind.It focuses on the dental education of children.It is a complete lesson planner that can be fully integrated in the classroom along with school's other subjects.If children can learn totake care of their teeth the proper way, they can save themselves and theirparents a lot of trouble down the line. Excellent,Integrative, Comprehensive & Current
I am a second year dental student and find this book to be comprehensive in its theoretical approach and practice of preventive dentistry in private and public health sectors. A university level background in chemistry, microbiology,biochemistry and dental materials are necessary to understand some of the more advanced concepts.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter wasn't being cooperative with having her teeth brushed until we got her this book. She loved it from the very beginning and repeatedly asked to read her "animal book". Interesting text on microbiology, fun to learn.

Needs better editing!
The content is detailed, informative and sometimes repetitive, but please work on the presentation! One would think that by the 7th edition, most of the mistakes in this textbook would have been corrected. I've seen numerous spelling errors and typos, as well as missing figures. This gives it a really unprofessional look, despite all the diagrams and the "easy to read style". The editors should take a course in spelling and typing. If they do not have the time to do so, they should consider spending a few minutes to find out how the spellcheck option works. Proper spelling and grammar are very important, especially for an educational material such as a textbook. Hopefully the eighth edition will turn out to be a bit better.

I'm in family medicine and encounter oral pathology on a regular basis. This book can't be beat for the purpose of recognition and diagnosis of oral diseases. Excellent photographs and explanations cover the full gamut of pathology likely to be encountered, and arranged according to useful diagnostic schemes - by type, color, location, etc. Even contains an extensive quiz at the end to test your mastery. This book needs some corrections!
I purchased this book along with a few others to practice for the CDA exam. Most of the information was pretty good, but I found a lot of mistakes. Some of the answers are wrong and if I hadn't gone to school then I wouldn't have known the difference. Overall it is ok, but if you don't already have a vast knowledge of dental assisting then I would recommend a different guide.
