5-0 out of 5 stars Pays for itself in 10 minutes
This is a fantastic book! It is written extremely positive and will be a "Bible" throughout a cancer ordeal. It is a ray of hope and friend for the lost soul on a solo Cancer journey. It is very well organized and easy to read. It is up-to-date and has many online links that work on the web. It will provide a positive and structured environment to help you make intelligent decisions in healing yourself with or without a doctor's aid. This book taught me more about Cancer than a visit to the Oncologist only after 10 minutes of browsing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cutting Edge!!!
OK, sorry for the pun, but it's true. Bill Henderson has found a way to provide the best researched PROVEN treatments and CURES for cancers of all shapes and sizes in an easy to read and understand format. While waiting for my doctors to schedule, execute and analyse a biopsy of my neck (prior tests have made them suspect some kind of lymphoma), I started doing some research of my own and stumbled across Bill's fabulous book. I immediately started upping my dosages of some of the supplements I was already taking, and added some others recommended by several of the doctors and scientists mentioned in the book. I also modified my diet somewhat. Within 3 days of starting, the seering and throbbing pain I was experiencing DISAPPEARED! The mass in my neck, what ever it is (still haven't got the results back from the biopsy) softened and shrunk by 20-30%. Within a week, I can now see the shape of my face again (mass now smaller by over 50%!!), and I feel like I am winning my fight already! I am still fine-tuning my protocol based on many of the recommendations in Bill's book, have several supplements on order through discount nutrient providers (all found in the book), and have been constantly reading new material through many of the links provided within the book. It may only seem like 200 pages or so, but with the links to other invaluable sites as well as the newsletter archives on Bill's website, you too can become an "expert" on cancer and alternative treatments in a very short time. And you can keep learning new proven techniques because Bill is contstantly researching and updating his site with the latest and greatest. This book could literally save your life or the life of someone you love. Even if no one you know has cancer, you can learn how to insure that you and your family never get it by reading this book and learning EXACTLY what causes cancer (turns out it's pretty simple!) and how you can make yourself virtually cancer-proof. I only wish I knew this information 3 years ago when my Dad was battling leukemia. Chemo did not save him. Read this book. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR ANYONE DEALING WITH CANCER!!!
I must say that Bill has really done his research and has written a book that is a definite wealth of information for the cancer patient and family. This information will not be shared by your run of the mill oncologist!Bill's book will direct you to some of the finest websites that offer alternatives to cure your cancer. Also you will be able to locate Dr's who are willing to work with you when you choose not to go with the cut, burn and poison treatments if you have cancer. The book tells you about lifestyle changes, being healthy eating, exercise and what supplements to take to help cure your cancer. If you are looking for this kind of information and feel lost out there in cyberspace, then you need this VERY helpful guide book of Bills! Thank you Bill for helping so many people!Lynn MillerP.S. Bill also made this book very easy to understand. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable
This book has been invaluable in explaining ALL the different parts of hemodynamics and the interplay between the characters (presure, flow, etc). I credit this book for helping me pass the CCRN. It will help you analyze waveforms and predict outcomes to attain the best clinical outcome for your patients. Truly a wonderful investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
This book is great. It covers the basics and helps the reader to understand how to analyze this information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly comprehensive, yet surprisingly readable
I currently work in a Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care setting, and have found this book to be amongthe best hemodynamic texts available. Its comprehensive presentation of anatomy, technology, and pathophysiology in relation to hemodynamics isarranged very intelligently. What I enjoyed mostabout this book though was its readability. The language is straightforth and simple without losing any of its meaning, which has lent to its popularity among nursing students performing clinical rotations in the unit.Friends of mine who have borrowed this book invariably purchase their own copy afterwards. It is that good!I reccomend this book to anyone in a field where hemodynamics hold importance. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written and politically correct.
Having a background in medicine, I am very disappointed. This book can be confusing and does not accurately or properly deal with serious health issues of the day. While subtle, it gives a free pass to destructive activities in the name of not offending while ignoring studies that show clearly show fatalities resulting from destructive life styles and beliefs. In my opinion, it gives the field of medicine a black eye and can't help but prompt the educated reader to question the validity of the writers. It is poorly written. Not the type of book I would recommend to my students or residents.

5-0 out of 5 stars medical information
Extremely helpfull manual. Goes into detail regarding many subjects, easy to read for a layman.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little bit of PR from Merck but still helpful ....
Despite its latest problems, Merck still dominates the drug market along with the other biggies. The vast majority of its drugs are effective and perfectly safe - though not without risk factors. As such, it is useful for patients to understand exactly what those drugs are, what they do, what dangers are present. This book will help patients understand. To a large degree what is contained in these pages are all present in package inserts but there is also a good deal of addtional information. It can be helpful and anything that helps one attain better health is worth a few bucks! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars In someways an antidote to hypochondria
I bought this book a few months ago, and after some thought on it's relevance to canoe-tripping,Iwanted to bring it to the attention of others. Despite the fact that this book is published by the American Society for Microbiology, no specialized background in medicine is needed to fully enjoy it .The overall concept of this book is a review of diseases and micro-oganisms that can affect the outdoor traveler. It contains sections on toxic marine organisms. (As well as the nasty things you can get from your dog, cat, bird, rose garden, or exotic cuisine) Even barracudas and jellyfish get a mention. The chapter "At the Shore"covers red tide, shellfish poisoning, pufferfish, moray eels, and traumatic marine wounds. The chapter "Freshwater: from Lakes to Hot Tubs" covers skin-eye-ear infections resulting from freshwater immersion. "The Camper's Uninvited Guests" chapter covers Lyme Disease,Giardia, and various mosquito-born diseases, relevant to the North American(and elsewhere) paddler. Topics of other chapters include "Transmission of Infectious Diseases during Sporting Activities", "Traveling Abroad", and "STD'sand Travel". It is difficult to imagine how the editor of this multi-authored text managed to find 19 contributors with BOTHthe expertise AND a sense of humor to create this small (430 pages with extensive bibliography and index) text. It is wonderful! It also received a glowing review this Spring in theRead more

4-0 out of 5 stars Correct on metaphor; incorrect on mind-body link and HIV causation
Sontag is spot-on in her analysis of metaphors of AIDS: the military metaphors, the latency metaphors, and the plague metaphors. Her observations are keen and insightful in this regard. It is troubling then, that she seems unwilling to follow her own analysis and that she dismisses "psychological" aspects of disease causation in favor of a purely materialist understanding. Does she not realise that the "de-interpretation" of illness metaphors is itself a psychological act that affects patients? How does she reconcile her dismissal of psychological states with the fact that her very own writings on illness and AIDS are themselves psychological and therapeutic?
2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Susan
Susan Sontag disparaged the idea that dis-eases are caused by mental states, and her resolutely taking this position illustrates the great and willing blindness of this talented but dis-eased anti-white racist. She had such a beautiful basket of blossoms to offer, and between their leaves and stems crawled poisonous snakes she could not free herself of because she wasn't willing to look in her own basket. Unfortunately her work is forever tainted with her hatred.Sad -

2-0 out of 5 stars this book misses the point
i think Susan Sontag is missing the political nature of illness.as far as i'm concerned there is a culture of blaming the victim in our society that is not limited to medicine.the victim is blamed because the victim has little power.the ill person is blamed because the tobacco companies are powerful, the oil companies are powerful, the sugar companies are powerful, the retail chains are powerful, the manufacturers are powerful, the health insurance companies are powerful and the governments are powerful.they have armies of lawyers to defend them; they have armies of doctors, scientists, and psychiatrists to fabricate pseudo-scientific evidence to support their self interest, but the victim is powerless to defend themselves against blame.this isn't about language, it's about politics of money and power.language is only one of the tools that the powerful use to blame the ill, and victims more generally. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Chelation and other therapies
Maybe if C.M. Abratte read the book: Politics in Healing by Daniel Haley (Former NY State Assemblyman), commented by Berkley Bedell (Former Congressman), and read the Fitzgerald Report by Benedict Fitzgerald of the US Dept. of Justice to the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee 1953, he/she would understand why the so-called scientific studies can't be trusted. It is very eye-opening and enraging reading, which IS BACKED UP BY COURT (of law) DOCUMENTS!!
1-0 out of 5 stars EDTA does not work.
This book is complete nonsense and quackery.Supporters of chelation therapy claim that "numerous" scientific studies have been conducted "proving" the efficacy of EDTA therapy.Anybody with half a brain and the research skills of a 5th grader can tell you that these studies don't exist. What does exist is a mountain of anecdotal evidence that is thrown in our face to distract us from the paucity of hard evidence from clinically controlled randomized studies.
4-0 out of 5 stars Chelaton Reading Resource of the Best
Of the several books and articles I have read about chelation therapy, this one is the best. It is perhaps not for the 101 lesson, as it is a bit more technical, so much so that medical doctors can read it with interest. It has many references to studies and background facts. Its a Bible on Chelation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attention Deficit Disorder
I found this book informative with very current, new ideas.I knew that ADD ran in our family but after reading this book, I realize that there are manifestations of it that I had never considered ADD.Now I realize that even more of us have this condition. We present with diverse symptoms, abilities and coping strategies but according to this book they are caused by the same types of brain problems. That makes very good sense to me.It explains a great deal. I am 63 years old and have known 6 generations of my family from my great grandfather to my grandchildren. There are some with ADD in each generation. What I used to think of as quirks I now realize are ADD traits. This book has allowed me to be gentler on myself and members of my family.I bought 4 copies of this book and am giving them to family members.I hope that they will find this information as helpful as I have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Authoritative
The author of this wonderful book combines neuroscience and phychology to help dispel some the myths people have surrounding Attention Deficit Disorder. I could hardly put it down and often found myself lost within the pages for minutes on end. Much better than 'Driven to Distraction' IMO. Damn, what time was that meeting tomorrow? Oh yeah, I actually bought this for a family member who suffers from ADHD, so the doctor says. I'm thinking about buying a copy for everyone in my immediate family and probobly even a few distant cousins I haven't seen in years. Man, I wonder how old Doris is now anyway. Wasn't she the one that was adopted? No, now that I think about it I'm pretty sure that was Greg. Doris must have been the one with the irritable bowel.
5-0 out of 5 stars A 10 STAR BOOK!
OUTSTANDING BOOK!I recommend this book to EVERYONE interested in the most current information on ADD and ADHD.Dr. Brown uses the term "ADD syndrome" to refer to a cluster of impairments in the management system of the mind. As a femaleadult with ADD and a high school resource specialist, I have experienced the effects of this syndrome both personally and professionally. As an educator who sees the actions of students with ADD frequently misunderstood by their teachers, I believe the information in this book will make a huge difference for students in the classrooms of the teachers who read it; Dr. Brown explains not only how these impairments affect behavior and time management, but more importantly, how they can affect reading, written expression, math, and memory. As a person with ADD, I especially liked his concept of ADD syndrome. Dr. Brown explains the complexity of this syndrome in an easy to read and easy to understand format. This book is for everyone who has been touched by someone with ADD: parents, friends, spouses, siblings, relatives, teachers, doctors, psychologists, and especially, any person who has ADD. ... I love this book I have had a chance to use it a lot in my practice. It has tons of great information, be prepared a long read it is a medical manual so to speak and it can be a little on the long side, but if your up for it, It is a fantastic asset...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text
I found the information quite thorough. It is written in a user-friendly way, easy to understand.I bought this book because it was listed as a reference for the chiropractic practice part 2 exam. This book helped me with the locations of the trigger points.Sometimes the chiro boards like to ask questions on trigger points. However, Leonardi's book: National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers and National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations are excellent for board exam preparation. These three books are needed for the part II and Part III of the boards.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate in drug-free pain relief!
As a Clinical Massage Therapist at a hospital, I use these books almost daily. In fact, I just ordered my second set. . . 3-0 out of 5 stars DEPENDABLEREVISIONTEXT
Let it be known that I would have rated this book higher, had it not been for the frequency of its typographical errors. Its editors and/or authors should try and do a better job in subsequent editions. But that apart, this revisional text accomplishes what it was designed to do. The message of this book is simple, precise, and self-explanatory.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great for general internal medicine/ hospitalist
I purchased this to review for my 4th year med school rotation in Infectious Disease and to prepare for my upcomming residency in Internal Medicine.I have read about 3/4 of the book so far and have found it very valuable- relevant, thorough for a general internist, well written and organized.Very clinically oriented.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very time efficient book that gets straight to the point
I came across this book randomly in my medical school library and was a bit leary of it because of the title."XYZ in 30 days" type titles sound hokey to me, but the book itself is anything but. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHERE ARE MY PRIVATE NURSES!!!????
I read this book twice and loved it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dr.'s don't always know everything
Ms. Drescher give an honest & straight-forward account of her experience with cancer and the amazing fact that it took 8 doctors before she was finally diagnosed.Good sense of humour, and well-written.Quick reading, too (I'm a slow reader).

4-0 out of 5 stars Helped me understand
I read this as my adult daughter has been awaiting the results of her radioactive iodine treatment for cancer that has spread. My daughter also had to try several doctors before she found one who would listen to her, although the diagnosis was fast. A very serious subject, and dealt with by a star whose situation is not ours, but Fran Drescher gave me perspective on another's cancer struggle. I have never seen her tv show or read her other book, but am always looking to read other people's cancer stories to see what we can learn. It validated our searching for information and for answers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great handbook of diseases
This book is extremely handy for everyday use and study of communicable diseases. It helps whether you are a student or a practitioner needing to brush up on the details of a disease.
4-0 out of 5 stars very practical reference manual
This book is a great reference for epidemiology of infectious diseases. The main strength of the book is that it is packed with practical public health information, so that you don't have to wade through pages of extraneous clinical facts. In other words this is not an expanded version of the infectious disease chapters of the Merck Manual or Harrison's.Those are great references in their own right, but they're not always the most useful books to pull off the shelf when you need to consider public health measures. In the CCDM, diseases are presented in alphabetical order from AIDS to zygomycosis.Entries are broken down into the following sections: identification, infectious agent, occurence, reservoir, mode of transmission, incubation period, period of communicability, susceptibility, and methods of control. The emphasis is generally heaviest upon prevention and control. As for the negatives, the binding of the paperpack version is extremely poor (I am not sure if the hardcover is any better or not).Due to the small page size, the print is fairly small throughout, but not so much as to be really annoying. There are a couple of places in the book though (map on back cover and immunization schedule chart) where the text is so small that I'd call it illegible.Other than these instances of poor production this is a really practical and worthwhile book to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of its Kind
As a public health medical officer, I refer to this text daily. It is completely indispensible, and has been for many years. This new edition by David Heymann even incorporates Emerging Infectious Diseases such as SARS and the implications of EIDS for Homeland Security. Buy it! ... Read more
