Good Supplement for Internal Med
Case Files is well made and good at what it covers.The format is very readable, giving you a scenario and making you think of a diagnosis and plan.It's much better than skimming a heavy albeit more complete text.That said, while 60 case scenarios are a lot, it can't hit everything, and it's important to have a wide base of knowledge for the Internal Med Clerkship.I read this after reading First Aid for Internal Med a few times, and while I picked up a couple of things that I had little clue about, it mainly reinforced what was in that book.I would recommend Case Files for people who 1) like the scenario format and can't stand outlines/bullets/texts2) are close to taking the shelf exam and want an indication as to how questions might be constructed.MKSAP, however, is probably the closest to the exam you can get.Once again, this is a great supplement, but I would not use this as a primary / singular source.

Hmmmm he goes deep into the history of issues involving the mind, to the point of boredom.Then he goes deep into what types of physical disorders come from the mind having the issues.But then nothing.There is one and a half pages on what you might do in order to assist in resolving these issues.Come on, if this is truly meant to help people then give them something to work with instead of just recommending psychotherapy.I agree with the concept that child abuse/neglect can create hell for the rest of that person's life - but give specific ways to help in getting rid of the garbage instead of what was laid out in this book.He makes way too many references to purchase his other books throughout this book.Just another book thats "all about the money" and not truly about helping others!

Relief from chronic pain / EBV a bonus
I bought this book in desperation as my chronic inflammatatory pain and the crippling exhaustion from chronic Epstein Barr have had me so dependent upon Tylenol and aspirin I feared for my liver and stomach. The first thing I did ( with my docs ok ) was drop my statin drug and start taking 6 gms of flax seed oil and 1 gm of evening primrose oil daily, along with changing my diet. I have to tell you it was the best thing I've done. My muscle and joint pain - previously so bad I worked part time for a bit - is 85% gone!! My knees, my biggest problems, are so good I can walk in the evenings with my husband, where before I was in physical therapy to get through the grocery store. I couldnt even take care of my grandson for a whole evening alone, and now Gramma can get on the floor and play !
this book has missed the point
Another book offering limited help to those with asthma. As a sufferer for long enough until I learned about the Buteyko method. If you wish to take control of your condition, this is the only therapy that works and does it very well.

Hypothyroidism Review - Excellent Information
I found this book to be very informative and factual.For those of us living with Hypothyroidism, this is an excellent book.P.S.Find a doctor who will listen to your symptoms as a whole and not try to treat each symptom individually, such as the book carefully guides you.Be persistent in your search, as there are actually doctors out there who WILL listen and take the time to help, rather than succumbing to the HMO drive thru approach, as my first "primary" care physician did -- stating that my blood levels were NORMAL, when in fact they were not.Be educated in your condition -- as there are treatment options which will bring you out of your "fog and fatigue" and make you feel like a real person again.

primer on kidney disease
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT BOOK ON NEPHROLOGY, IT'S CONCISE AND VERY WELL ILLUSTRATED, PROBABLY THE BEST INTRODUCTORY BOOK ON NEPHROLOGY, BUT PROBABLY NOT AS COMPREHENSIVE AS THOSE 100 LB BOOKS.

Great text for those interested in nephrology
I am a medicine resident interested in nephrology. This book starts out with the basics of renal anatomy/physiology, approach to patients with kidney disease, and goes on to define/classify, and provide an outline for diagnosis/therapy of common kidney disorders. Its depth suits perfectly medicine residents, and probably, as others have mentioned, fellows starting their training. Those looking for a more in-depth text might consider Johnson&Feehaly's Comprehensive Clinical nephrology.

I am no longer sick and dehydrated
This book is a great value to anyone who does not understand the value thata glass water can change your life. I have expirienced physical change in body and mental clarity from a water hydration challange. A must have libray book for those serious about no longer being sick and tired. A missing key to health
After reading this book many years ago I developed the habit of drinking 2 liters of water a day. What a difference this makes in health. I have only been sick 3 times in the past 6 years. Excellent information on effective, inexpensive, nonaddictive, safe, nonsurgical pain control
Unfortunately, many effective, less expensive, safe pain treatments receive almost no advertising, since they are not very profitable for manufacturers or practitioners. FDA approval for a new treatment or procedure usually requires clinical trials costing at least $[...]. Naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, hormones and herbs are not patentable, unless the natural molecule is altered or a new delivery system is developed. Insurers seldom pay for treatments and procedures, which are not FDA approved. Universities and medical schools rely heavily on financial support from pharmaceutical manufacturers.Most effective inexpensive remedies will never receive the expensive newspaper, magazine, radio and television publicity, which more expensive patented prescription medications receive. Many of our patients have had numerous endoscopies and scans, costing thousands of dollars, which did not provide as much useful diagnostic or treatment information as the reader can obtain from reading this book. Teitelbaum's protocols and concepts have been especially effective with our migraine sufferers, many of whom have reduced their migraine pain, 96 to 98 percent, without using any painkillers. Thanks to this book and compounding pharmacists, we have been able to formulate prescription pain creams which relieve 90 to 100 percent of fibromyalgia pain, in our patients, with virtually no side effects and no addiction risk. Harrowing but beautiful
Tayman's account of the leper colony on Molokai and its history is fascinating and brilliantly written.He clearly shows us the various characters involved over a century of "medical segregation" as he calls it. All in all many scholars have come to the conclusion that the isolation of the lepers prevented the further progress of the disease in Hawaii.The poor planning by the Board of Health made the victim's suffering more acute in the beginning of their isolation and the effects of this have lived on in the hearts of the Hawaiian people.

Great miniseries material
I would have never believed I would more than skim this book when I began it;what a surprise!It was like the most incredible miniseries imaginable. Unbelievable true stories of heroism and cruelty and larger than life characters.The author has a way of making you want to keep turning pages.Best book I've read in a long time.

It Works!
After reading all the 5 star reviews for the predecessor (Pain Free) to this book," I checked it out at the library to see if the program really worked. The program sounded to good to be true, but the volume of 5 star reviews really made me want to try it out. After about a week and a half on the program, I no longer had bad arthritus pain in my wrist, and was able to get off the glucosamine. Glucosamine worked for me, but it is expensive. Since doing the exercises, my shoulder pain isalso much less severe.
Excellent resource-Poor binding
The book is an incredible resource for women. It gives a new paradigm for viewing our bodies and for believing in the possibility of health. We are well designed, we just need to use our bodies according to the design!

Required Reference for Pediatric Practitioners

Every doctor that sees newborns and kids needs one
As a family practice physician this book was not part of the required reading for us.We had textbooks we were provided and the only time I ran across this text was when I rotated with a genetics specialist that counseled daily on children with syndroms and malformations.I ran across just enough situations like this in the 6 years of family medicine that I ordered one for me - not only is a great reference book, but humbling to read sections from - its not so amazing that there are such a dizzying number of malformations and syndromes that can go wrong in human development - it is amazing that it usually works perfectly.This book will keep a lot of perspective in view for docs like me that face barrages of complains about colds, zits, and back pains.

This is the best book about congenital malformations available for general pediatricians. It is highly accessible and fairly easy to use.
