39th Edition of Gray's Anatomy (Susan Standring, Ed.)
Totally distinct from earlier editions is the radically different organization of this classical textbook: the human body is no longer described as containing different systems - the skeleton, the vascular system, the nervous system,...- but the body is now divided in regions. The reason for this radical change, chief editor Susan Standring (King's College, London) explains, is that in the real world, practising clinicians in their daily practice use a regional approach, rather than a systemic view. Therefore, it is understood that the new, 39th Edition of Gray's Anatomy is more adapted to the needs of surgeons, radiologists and other clinicians, than to medical students or scientists interested in the area of human anatomy. However, there is some consideration of the editors for a section `systemic overview'. So, the endocrine system, the blood (haematopoietic) and immune system are not entirely overlooked.
THE book
This is the only anatomy book you will need, as a physician or med student, and it is beatiful to the eyes too.

I became a believer.
I was a believer in First Aid and Blue Prints books that I used for steps 1 and 2.There was no Step 3 First Aid at the time and so I tried this book.This turned out to be an excellent book for step 3 review.It covered the topics sufficiently for adequate review.I used this book in conjunction with "Boards and Wards" and worked questions in the NMS step 3 books as well as the kaplan q-bank.That works.Most say that it is not necessary to spend much time studying for step 3.This is true, but you do need to study some.This book reads quickly and the information is high yield.I highly recommend it and hope that new editions are released over the years. ... Good Supplement for Internal Med
Case Files is well made and good at what it covers.The format is very readable, giving you a scenario and making you think of a diagnosis and plan.It's much better than skimming a heavy albeit more complete text.That said, while 60 case scenarios are a lot, it can't hit everything, and it's important to have a wide base of knowledge for the Internal Med Clerkship.I read this after reading First Aid for Internal Med a few times, and while I picked up a couple of things that I had little clue about, it mainly reinforced what was in that book.I would recommend Case Files for people who 1) like the scenario format and can't stand outlines/bullets/texts2) are close to taking the shelf exam and want an indication as to how questions might be constructed.MKSAP, however, is probably the closest to the exam you can get.Once again, this is a great supplement, but I would not use this as a primary / singular source.

Fantastic study aid
I used this book and did quite well on the shelf exam.I recommend it to anyone who wants to do well on an internal medicine test.It's very complete and the cases allow you to integrate a lot of knowledge in one scenario.

I used this book as my primary source...i read it twice before the exam. the cases are amazingly close to what you will get in the exam...trust me... you do not need a course, all you need is the first aid!!!!!!!!!!!!! any other sources can be used as a way of reviewing what you have already learned from that book. trust me you know the content of this book, you are one step ahead of the game.
All you need to pass CS!
This book does a great job of describing the exam format, rules and content. You can easily pass the exam using this book alone. In fact, a few days with this little gem before CS is what most of my friends and I have done for preparation. The consensus is that we ALL felt very comfortable with the simulated patient format based on what we learned in First Aid alone. Of all the cases I had on the exam, only ONE was not specifically covered in First Aid for CS. Don't waste time with other books/resources. I was somewhat disappointed with First Aid for CK, but for CS...it's right on the money!

#1 book for Step 2 CS
This book was excellent for the exam. It told me exactly what to expect and what I needed for the exam day. The cases in the back of the book where almost verbatim of what I saw on the exam. Delivery time
It took a long time from Amazon to deliver the item to me and I did not feel good about since my exam was getting closer to the date of delivering the book.
Good Physics Practice
This book has a pro and a con associated with it. The pro is that it is a plethra of free standing questions and will definitely prepare you for that aspect of the MCAT without a doubt. The con is actually only a semi con...there are no passages in this book which means you won't get practice in scanning for important facts. This isn't the end of the world, though, because the MCAT physical sciences section is highly conceptual, and this book drills the concepts like there's no tomorrow. For practice with passages, you can go to the AAMC site and download a few of their practice tests.

Great Physics Practice
I really found this book very, very helpful.I thought it covered every topic on the MCAT.Some of the questions were a little easier than McAT, and some seemed a little more difficult than MCAT, but they all seemed like McAT questions to me.You can't beat the online help offered with this book.THe author himself answers your science questions.Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. ... Best Practice for Internal Med Shelf
This book is basically MKSAP 2 except with different questions.That's good since MKSAP 2 was well made.There were several things I liked about MKSAP.It covered a variety of illnesses and grouped them by symptom (so if you felt weak in pulmonary you could easily find sections applicable to that field).The American College of Physicians wrote it, which is quite comforting.It references appropriate research articles for every Q&A.Finally, like a shelf, it forced you to make tough decisions.In reality, you order just above every lab and whatever imaging you need to cover yourself.Board questions, though, make you choose the best test from what you would always order.

MANY MISTAKES, don't believe everything you read.
This edition is OK if you can catch all of the several mistakes.THE FOLLOWING CORRECTIONS SHOULD BE MADE: 1. Table 1-33, Bart's is an abnormal hemoglobin composed of 4 gamma chains (not 4 Beta). 2. Table 1-37, IVIG is NOT a treatment for TTP but it IS a treatment for ITP. 3. Table 3-13, a benign tumor of the ovary is a cystadenOMA, NOT a cystadenoCARCINOMA.4. Table 5-13, Dog bites that are "provoked" are LESS likely to be associated with rabies while unprovoked bites are more associated with rabies. 5. Table 1-15, Squamous cell carcinoma (not small cell as the book claims) is associated with hypercalcemia due to secretion of PTHrp.These mistakes are MAJOR. Who knows how many more there are. . .that I missed. If you can't trust SOME of the information, how can you trust ANY of it?

useful and high yield
Very good book for step 3, specially when you are cramming for the last minute. The most useful parts were the pictures and charts. They are really few good books in the market for step 3 and i can honestly say that this book and " Crush the boards" by Adam Brochert are the best.

Concise, 1-book review for Step 2.
This book was more than helpful for Step 2.In particular, it helped me polish up on dermatology, ophthalmology, neurology, and radiology - subjects not well covered in the other review books I used, and subjects which had an appreciable presence on USMLE Step 2.It also helped me review OB/GYN at the last minute.Look out for errors, though - others in my class found flaws in the medicine section, for example.Otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.Worth the price for all the high-yield information packed in this little green book. ... Not a very appealing text
Chapters are disjoint at times, with no reference to similar concepts between them.Almost as if they were all written separately without any editing to tie them all together.
Health Behavior and Health Education
This book is a must have for anyone in the health education field. It presents all major health behavior theories in a clear and understandable manner, applies theories to case studies at the end of each chapter, and offers a table summary of each theory's core constructs. The book is well written and with this third edition comes more updated research information.

Not for a novice
Unarguably, Glanz et al know their theories.That, along with how comprehensive this book is, is as much of a positive review as I can give.My criticism of this book is not the expertise of Glanz et al. Tissue paper.
Probably great for PA boards and FP boards, but don't listen to the forums that recommend this for Step 2 or 3.

Too many errors
I'm studying for my third PA recertification exam and thought this would be a good tool to use.Unfortunately, this book has lots of mistakes, leaving me questioning what I know is correct.It has a great layout, is easy to read, and has nice summaries for each topic.But if you're unsure of the accuracy of the information, you end up going to other sources to study, which is double the work.

worthless book for USMLE Step 3
Everybody in my residency said that was the book they studied for their Step 3. The moment I turned a couple of pages I realised this will definitely not the way the Step 3 would be.

great book
This is a great review book, it got me 100% on my first anesthesia test!!!

Great prep for written boards
I thought this Q&A review book was easily the most "bang for the buck" in preparation for the written boards. It does require a solid fundamental knowledge of anesthesiology, but the questions are very representative of written board-type questions, and the answers are comprehensive and largely satisfactory. Textbook references are fairly comprehensive and accurate. I highly recommend this book as a final step in preparation for the written boards!

Better than First Aid
I found Step 2 secrets to be a much higher yield resource for Step 2 CK than First Aid. First Aid contains too much detailed basic science review for my liking. Step 2 secrets is predominantly clinical and full of pearls that came up on CK for me. Especially helpful were the emergency medicine, cardiology and rheumatology sections. The question/answer format is very handy. I covered answers and discussed the question in my mind, in essence self-pimping throughout the book. It's a great book to use for group study or study with a partner as well. I went through secrets before tackling Qbank questions and found it to be very helpful. When I sat for CK, I was amazed by how many questions (50+) that I was able to answer immediately based on recalling the content in secrets. Secrets is short and easily digestible. Although I consider USMLE World and Kaplan Qbank to be the top study aids for the exam, I believe that step 2 secrets is a very good supplemental text for preparation. I regret having purchased and read First Aid (see my review of First Aid for CK). In general the first aid series are very good as we all know; however, step 2 secrets is superior to first aid for CK in my opinion.

Solid but use USMLEworld too
Several interns had recommended this book to me to prep for Step 2.I used Step 2 Secrets almost exclusively with Kaplan Q Bank and USMLEworld (another online question bank).Step 2 Secrets seems to deal with the bread-and-butter of the medical field, which is an essential foundation for the real test.While doing USMLEworld, however, I tended to miss quite a few questions that Step 2 Secrets did not seem to cover. Unfortunately, the real Step 2 tends to mimic USMLEworld closely in terms of format, difficulty, and overall vagueness.Just prior to test time, I browsed through First Aid Step 2 CK and it seemed to cover some of the holes in my knowledge.I did not feel very confident taking the test.Nonetheless, I managed a 260+ on the real thing, which I don't think reflected my true lack of knowledge.While Step 2 Secrets (as a previous reviewer mentioned), does do a good job covering the basics, it lacks the inside edge USMLEworld and the newest First Aid (only slightly better) possess.In the end, you probably only want to buy either Step 2 Secrets or First Aid.They're quite similar, so your decision should be based on the format.If you like Q&A, go for Secrets.If you like outlines and text, First Aid (Crush Step 2 is basically an outline version of Secrets).Make sure, however, to do USMLEworld.It's frustrating and nit picky, like the real thing.Step 2 is more instinctual in nature than Step 1, so it's more about realizing general concepts of treatments and workups.Practice questions and scenarios are key here.Prior clinical experience and doing well on rotations (learning, not scutting) are important as well.Good luck and I hope you have good results.

Anatomy Flashcard,Conveniet
I found these cards good for studying and learning about bones and muscles for my anatomy and physiology class. The pictures are well-done, the cards are handy, easy to carry around when you are doing errands.Other study aids I found very useful were:

What you need for anatomy
This is what you should read for medical school anatomy.I started our reading big Moore and discovered that it is quite wordy and slow to read.Overall not an efficient way to learn or use precious study time.This condensed version contains most of the information in big Moore.It has illustrations, tables, and clinical correlations.I switched my study method to reading this book (baby Moore) from cover to cover and studying it in detail.I then used big Moore as a reference for additional details and would skim big Moore and note things that seemed of possible importance not included in baby Moore.You can then use Netter, Grant, and/or Rohen atlases as a supplement.

Everything in one place!
Great book! It is small and compact (though not light) but I feel like it has everything-- explanations, easy-to-read charts, great diagrams, all in one place. I heard that Big Moore has better explanations but I think Baby Moore does a fine job; all the information is in one concise book.

Just get it
WIth this book and Netter's you will have everything you need in anatomy.This book is also EXCELLENT for your surgery rotation in third year.Older versions are always smarter in anatomy . . . things haven't changed much in anatomy in say . . . a couple million years. ... Read more

best path question book
this book is TIGHT...and follows BRS rather closely...read the BRS section...do the questions and takes notes back into BRS for later review for boards.....do the whole book a month before your exam...do it fast...do atleast 2 secions a day that way you can finish in 2 weeks...i did this book actually during my last 2 weeks of med school before our 6 week break for board studying...it helped refresh a lot of pathology...wouldn't recommend using this book during coursework though...because it focuses on way too much stuff that isn't covered in your classes at med school...all questions have clinical lab findings and labs associated with it...thus making it boards like...doing this book will help you sort through all the fine nuances of current pathology...the answers are great...tells u which one is correct and why incorrect ones are incorrect...great book!!!

The best review of pathology for the USMLE step 1!
This terrific book contains more than 1,000 highest quality case(vignette)-based USMLE-style multiple choice questions, which will test your knowledge in all important (heavily board-tested) topics of pathology and will help you to assimilate and remember this high yield info.

Hate Math you'll love this book!

Exam Style
This book is a hasty review of Orgo, but it covers most of the MCAT material in relatively small number of pages. Although some diagrams are not very helpful, it tells you most of what you need. It is basically a good book if you are a time-pressed pre-med trying to take the MCAT in 2 months. If you have more time, I recommend reading over your orgo textbook once more and doing problem sets in various other MCAT preparation materials (the ones with only MCAT style problems). Hope this helps.

Decent
This book was decent in that it reviewed some of the fundemental concepts necessary for the MCAT.However, most of the questions were too easy, and none resemble the format of an actual MCAT question (not passage based).There were some errors, but easy to identify.The book was worth having for extra practice if you have the money, but don't expect much.

Perfect practice problems for MCAT
Practice is the key to the MCAT.Review is an essential first step, but is only part of the complete preparation for the MCAT.ORGO 1001 will help you guys ace the Biological Science questions.Everything from stereochemistry to lab techniques is in this book.There are over 90 stereochemistry questions alone.This book won't guarantee a 15, but it may help raise your score a couple points. ... Worth the money.An easy to use quick reference of key terms that you can take on-the-go.It won't cover all your study needs, but it does what it was intended to do well.

A+for Absolutely Awesome
The person who made the previous post obviously didn't look very hard at the book or try to study with it, or they would have realized that the definitions upside-down beneath the words are NOT the definition to THAT word.This is a long, thin book of flashcards with a vocab word on the Front of the page and the definition on the Back of the same page.The book does go upside down, but this is because there are more words/defs printed upside-down, therefore using the entire page (since the single word/definitions only take up half a page). So the book read right-side up is Bio, and the book held upside down and read normally is half Bio and half Orgo Chem.

Solid review
I used this for board recertification and I do think it was very helpful and would strongly recommend it. My trivial complaints: 1) The wording of some of the questions was fantastically convoluted. Fortunately the board exam questions were straight forward and did not require sentence diagramming. 2) There is tremendous variability in difficulty between chapters. 3) They should jettison the humor as it is forced, unfunny and as a result of stopping and thinking, "Oh , yeah, I haven't heard that one today," slows down the text. 4) I really hated the political and politically correct commentary.

Definitely Worth Buying and All You Need
I used this book to prepare for the Board Exam this year (2006) and found it to be exremely helpful, not only to pass the exam but also as a means of obtaining some really useful information for clinical practice.For instance, it provided a terrific approach to evaluating a patient with kidney stone disease.It really clarified the type of workup one should do and the various medical options for preventing a recurrence, something I had yet to see presented effectively.It was also funny at times and I would encourage the editors to include more humor.The only criticism I have is that it sometimes reviewed topics that are too specialized for family doctors and what we need to know both for the exam and for our practice.Some questions that are asked would be ones that only a subspecialist would/should know.

science questions too easy
took my DAT this past week and this did not improve my score. The General Science questions in the tests were much easier than the actual DAT. Perhaps the questions were old.Reading Comp was good

All these reviews are pretty accurate!
I read other reviews and decided to purchase this item. I must say that all of the reviews were pretty accurate. It was a wonderful tool, it had some problems (ex: wrong answer to a couple of questions), but was pretty true to the actual form of the DAT. Word up.

TopScore DAT software
If you're going to prepare for the DAT, purchasing this software is still a good idea. However, please be aware of certain weaknesses of this software, as there are some: 1) After taking the real DAT, I realized the science sections of this software were more difficult, partly due to the highly specific nature of the questions. 2) I noted that there were an annoying number of incorrect answers on the PAT sections of this test. A portion of the sample questions were clearly variations of those on the official test. Yet, some of these figures were misdrawn, (esp on the top-front-end sections) such that diagrams contradicted each other. Therefore, we're forced to guess between two wrong answers, trying to predict which was the intended correct answer. ... Read more
