Don't be fooled-this isn't a review book!
My med school pharm class required big Katzung, 9th ed, which was AWFUL and had pages on pages of worthless crap (unless you are an organic chemist-then enjoy). This book is just perfect. In my opinion, it's way too much for Step 1 review (use a flashcard set or First Aid) but it's perfect for an allopathic pharm class-it has everything you need to know, and very little that you don't. It also is well organized for memorization-many charts/diagrams, plus my favorite, little "Skill Keeper" boxes in each chapter that ask you a relevant question from a previous chapter, helping you to tie everything together. Each chapter also has Board style questions at the end WITH full explanations.

CCS Review
All of the questions were straightforward.If you didn't understand any of the questions, the references were either right after the question or at the end of each chapter for review.There were a couple of times that I did not comprehend some of the questions and, luckily, was able to refer back to my books for help.Anyone considering sitting for their CCS or anyone just looking for a good Coding review, I would highly recommend purchasing this book. ... You will need!
I spent a lot of money in shipping cost's finding a good ECG book! Nothing impressive about this book, which is why I sent it back. Don't be fooled by the title! You will to find another book if you want to understand ECG's.

Great Review Book
My initial exposure to EKGs was via Dubin.That was a great starter.But a couple of months later, I had to relearn everything again and this book really helped.Each chapter is divided into subheadings.Each subheading gives you the big picture.Then the whole chapter concludes with a recap: an EKG for each subheading.It was great.I checked it out from my library and did not buy it (if youcan, I suggest you buy it).Happy learning!

The Best EKG Book Around!
I'm a medical student, and this is the best EKG book I've found for learing EKGs relevant for students.Probably all you need for med school exams are heart blocks and MIs, but this book has all the major stuff, bundle branch/fasicular/hemi -blocks, SVTs, etc.The best part about this book is that its NOT just pattern recognition like other EKG books.It tells you why a rhythm is narrow vs wide, what's actually going on in that re-entrant rhythm, why that block looks the way it does by relating it to what's actually going on with the current, which makes you remember it better.Basically, if you just want to memorize some shapes, go use Dubin.But if you want to understand why EKGs make the patterns they do for various pathologies, then you MUST buy this book. ... I would highly recommend this book! I felt like it prepared me well for the shelf along with mksap and pretest. It is not too wordy like Blueprints tends to be. Thorough but to the point. Definitely worth it!

A must have for reviewers
I bought this book when i was reviewing for my Medical Technology certification exam. The book is more difficult than the certification exam. But the beauty of this book is that it will make you understand the rationale and principlesbehind all the laboratory tests and procedures. If you can pass at least 60% of the questions in this book. You have a good chance of passing the certification exam.

Good!
All I can say is that this is one of the better Blueprint books.Read it for clerkship.It explains concepts well and I was able to withstand pimping due to this book.

All you need.
This is one of the best of the blueprints series.This is all I read for the ob/gyn rotation.It is fairly comprehensive and will suffice for both the shelf exam at the end of a medical school clnical rotation and for usmle step 2.Unless your particularly interested in ob/gyn (and I was not), I wouldn't buy anything else on this topic.

Use this for your 3rd yr clerkship

Huge, but excellent for really understanding material
Exceptional for learning the basics. I had a few all-important concepts that I just couldn't get: G-proteins, the anterior pituitary hormones, and the alpha/beta/cholinergic agonists and antagonists. After struggling to learn each of these several times from lecture notes and other books, I turned to this book. It worked well for me because it teaches in a conceptual way and helps develop your understanding of the material. It will take a little more time, but if this is the way you learn, it will really help.
A unique case-oriented phramacology
Armen(Tashjian) and others have invented a unique type of pharmacology textbook in collaboration with Harvard Med Stud!Each chapter begins with the short introduction of a case report, relevant to each drug.This may give an easy undestanding of clinical significance of the drug to med stud, interns, pharmacologists and even clinicians.I believe that it will evolve into the classic of pharmaocolgy textbook!!

A really nice review book
Professor Golan used his copy notes for this book in our class this year, so we basically had the book without the cover or index, but otherwise it was all intact.Almost everyone in our class really loved the book--it gives a basic overview of each area of physiology and pathophysiology and then described the therapies used to treat the pathology.The book was mostly written by students, and it shows b/c everything is super easy to understand and is really geared towards a medical student.Also, this seems to be the only comprehensive textbook of pharmacology that divides the drugs by pathophysiology on the market, as everything else (Katzung, etc.) are laundry lists of drugs, albeit providing more information on each separate drugs.I think I would supplement this book with Katzung (or vice versa.)In any case, I recommend it! ... A Must fot the Oral Boards
You've passed the written boards - Congratulations!Now that you're sober again it's time to start thinking about the orals and this puppy is a big part of the solution.It's set up in an oral board question and answer style.Simply read the question -without looking at their answer- and then answer it out loud like you would if the examiner were sitting there in front of you. I know it's weird but it really does help to also practice in front of a mirror to eliminate all of the bizarre facial tics you never knew you had.Now look at the answer.Were you right or even close?Good! Keep going, you'll hone your style to a razor's edge.This technique, along with some good mock oral practice with those attendings who know how to give them, will have you spraying champagne over your friends and family like you've won the Grand Prix of Monaco the night after!

an overly comprehensive review
I do agree that this textbook is a very well-done, well written book with a lot of value for anesthesiologists. However, as a tool for oral board study it is actually a bit too comprehensive and inclusive. Take my word for it, during your oral board exam you are not going to be asked about histologic changes in the bronchial mucosa of the asthmatic or the synthetic pathway of catecholamines. The person studying for the oral anesthesiology board doesn't have time to waste learning material that he or she doesn't need to know. I recommend instead Clinical Cases in Anesthesia by Reed. Same format, much more focused on the material that the anesthesiologist must know for the oral exam.

This one is DOA
If you are looking for a good EMT book, I would take my business over to the Brady series.Did the editor actually look at this thing?I would have to say no!Forget about it, move on.

For the most part the book is very educational & easy to follow. Although there are many misspelled words, wrong or conflicting answers. Also, many topic areas taught aren't the way it is in the "real" world.To me it didn't look like the auther did much proof reading priorto it being published. One of the many tools to use with treating PDD
There is so much out there about Autism, classified as a pervasive developmental and neuropsychiatric disorder, whose causes are not fully understood. I feel this book is not limited to those with PDD or ASD; it is useful for any child, as other reviewers have mentioned.
The best book there is to help your child overcome autism.
This book has been the single most important reference book I've used to help my son overcome autism.

I would not suggest this book to anyone...
Please don't waste your money on this text.I had the misfortune of having to use this text to teach certification reviews for the July 06 exam. Luckily all of the students passed but I would attribute it more to their prior pharmacy knowledge and the additional information I gave them from the APhA texts than this book.The typos were unacceptable!!! I realize mistakes will get missed on occasion but how can a text claim 3/32 = 1/8 on the front page of a chapter?I was primarily teaching the math section and thought this book did a terrible job of explaining things.If math is the area you need to focus on do yourself a favor and by the Complete Math Review by APhA instead.This book was written strictly like a textbook which doesn't promote the practice most students need.The APhA text was written more like a work book which I really enjoyed as did my students (I also used it when I just wanted to briefly look over things before taking the exam in 2003).The work book format of APhA makes it a lot easier for students to skip over sections they have already mastered by providing frequent practice problems you can check yourself on.The pharmacology section in the Delmar text was pathetic as well.The information was out of date and incorrect (Nexium is a capsule not a tablet!!!)The top 200 medications list in this book was organized poorly also. I used numerous sections of APhA to supplement the Delmar text and the students loved the way the APhA material was presented in comparison.Basically my conclusion would be that if you want a text with tons of typos and way more information in textbook format than you need on the exam...use Delmar.If you just want a quick refresher (or even a crash course if Math if it isn't your strong point) that just presents you with what you need to know please use the APhA texts (Complete Math Review and Complete Review).

Just what you need
MGH Update and Board Preparation has all the elements of a good review book: easy to read, full of information, and organized. It even highlights the important stuffs to remember. Overall, this isa great reviewer.

like reading the phone book
I bought this book to brush up for my 10 year board recertification exam and, after the exam, I would say I have mixed feelings about having used it.First, if you are someone who believes that studying the material of your chosen profession should be a slightly rewarding experience, I suggest you look elsewhere.Reading through this book is about as engaging as reading the phonebook, with the crucial difference that in many towns you would get through the phonebook faster.The chapters are typically written in outline form and are quite dry.Unlike other books, each chapter is not followed by review questions (which can break up the reading experience).Instead, the 400 review questions are left for the back of the book.This also means that it is tricky to use the questions as a way of learning which chapters you need to read more carefully as they don't obviously map to the chapters.
An great reference book,and quicker review book
I got this book my first year of residency, and it is very helpful and quick, especially the child sections.But, I find that I still need to pull out Kaplan & Saddock (full book or synopsis) for some information.This book is more consice than both of the other books, so it is quicker. For medical students it would be a great textbook as well. So, recommend this book as that quick reference and review book to take with you, but still keep Kaplan & Saddock handy and Use it. ... Outstanding single source
This was my primary review source for the boards and I scored >98th percentile. It is as if there are questions from the boards taken straight out of this book. You should know this book inside and out.

Definitive Neurological surgery board review
An excellent book for my residents to read,think,answer and read again.I would recommend the book to any resident in Neurological surgery as a supplement.
Extremely high-yield review
Having taken (and passed) the boards three times now I can definitely say that this is a very high-yield review text.While the information is densely presented, it is also very clear and concise.I felt that I understood the material very well after reading it here.The questions at the end of each chapter are very representative of the subject matter/level of complexity on the actual test.This book compares favorably with Dr.Citow's book (either will do and it is probably not necessary to read both) and is probably better than the Sturm/Forget text.

Best Practice for Internal Med Shelf
Please note that MKSAP 3 it out.That said, I didn't feel the info in MKSAP 2 was outdated, and moreover the questions are different from MKSAP 3.There were several things I liked about MKSAP.It covered a variety of illnesses and grouped them by symptom (so if you felt weak in pulmonary you could easily find sections applicable to that field).The American College of Physicians wrote it, which is quite comforting.It references appropriate research articles for every Q&A.Also, like a shelf, it forced you to make tough decisions.In reality, you order just above every lab and whatever imaging you need to cover yourself.Board questions, though, make you choose the best test from what you would always order.I preferred using the CD-ROM with the book (well made) as I could do questions much faster rather than flipping through a book.One slight criticism was the seeming repetition of certain concepts (asthma treatment protocols).

not a good book for it's price.
if this book was marked at $7 retail then I could say that one can buy and not lose money on this book, but for the price and the hype about this book, I only have one word...."Garbbage."Very ill defined passive toned childhish kind of book. not worth the money...

Best for IM shelf (NBME)
Studied only with MKSAP week before IM shelf didn't get all the way through but received a very good shelf score, not excellent, but knew well what I did go over in the text. (Used up-to-date for clinical management when cases came up on ward) otherwise only did q's in MKSAP & didn't read much. Although, I diduse Kaplan Step 2 IM videos for entertainment, Dr. Conrad Fisher is a riot & Dr. Kornbluth rock! ... Read more
