Good
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this for my 3rd year rotation.I typically like more outline/topic organization texts, and I reluctantly bought this b/c other student highly recommended it.And I really liked this book.I have almost exclusively used this for my reading.And while pharmacology is included for each case, I still like to see all the pharmacology in a comparison table.So I had to supplement with an additional text for a more thourogh discussion of pharm-stuff.

Great book for Psych
I guess I am a little biased--I love the entire "Case Files" series.As always, this is another outstanding book of teaching cases.Some of the "hints" in the histories given for the cases are a little too obvious, but no complaints other than that.

I love the Case Files Series!
During third year of medical school, the way students learn totally changes.The most important information that students retain is going to be about patients they admit, that they see on the wards or work-up while on call.While other study materials give students the "facts," Case Files realizes that the best way for junior and senior medical students to learn is through case presentations.I would say that their format closely resembles the paradigm of how students should learn; a case is presented, discussed, key terms are defined, questions are presented about the text, and the information about the case is summarized.These books almost make it too easy to retain and apply clinically useful information!I used the psychiatry book as a complement to other texts, but it was my sole source of study for ob/gyn.

Frustrating and distressing.
This is easily one of the most difficult to use textbooks I've ever had the misfortune of studying.
Excellent guide for the Pharmacy Technician Exam
Concise and to the point. Bolded terms and generous sectioning of paragraphs in chapter make for very dynamic reading and in turn a better retaining of the literature.

just enough
I can't even tell you how many books I have purchased that claim they offer only info. relavant to the MCAT and nothing more...in which they wind up giving you all the superfluous stuff that *may* be on the MCAT.

Concise review of Biology and Verbal portions of the MCAT

Super Choice for Step 3
I initially heard of this book from the 2nd & 3rd year residents in our program. A lot of them used it for their Step 3 and were successful and loved it. I was skeptical at first because this exam was important to me for a number of reasons. In any case, my experience was much the same as theirs, and I did extremely well, as with my predecessors, but I wanted to provide greater detail that I know will help you. I was pleasantly surprised, but at the same time totally relieved, when I sat for the exam because everything I'd studied here was right there on the exam. Solid review for Step 3. My friend used it for his Step 2 too and loved it, but my only experience was for 3. I like the way the book's organized by medicine subspecialties (Cards, GI, Renal, Tox, etc) and the outline is a huge time-saver while leaving nothing to the imagination.GREAT book and a zealous recommend.

Why bother?
Just do qbank or qbook. Don't buy, don't borrow, don't waste your time.

okay study book
This question book is an okay review of subjects if you perfer a Q/A format way of learning.However, the question format and style of questions are not similar to the USMLE Step 3.There are few Negative questions (eg. all of the following except) in the USMLE Step 3 and at the most, there are 3 questions following a passage (In NMS, there can be up to 6-7 questions following a passage).I found the NMS review to be too detailed (like questions we see in Step 1 and 2- eg) indirect inguinal hernias are medial to what structure.....)
Great review book....
I'll admit, I made a mistake.I decided to hold off taking Step 3 until two months before my pediatric residency was finished.Back then, it wasn't required to maintain your residency in this state.So you can imagine, after nearly 3 years of pediatric medicine, how far removed I was from a lot of adult medical issues.I used two books, this one and "Crush step 3."Both were definitely helpful, but I felt this one by far helped me the most.Sure the question formats are not exactly like the real test.But Q and A style studying tends to make me retain the information much better than just passive reading.The explanations are quite thorough and the difficulty of the questions were just about the same for the real test.NMS has always been good to me when taking the previous two steps of the USMLE, and they didn't let me down with step 3. ... Excellent for Step 1 !!
Extremely well organized with overview cards to give the big picture and then a card for each microbe with all the pertinent info.On the front of each card is a "Clinical Case" giving the classic presentation for that organism - this really drives home the big picture for that organism and is how the boards will give it to you.These are also great for any Micro course - you may just have to add the info your specific professor wants you to know.Highly recommended.

Best Resource Out There for Med Micro for the class and the USMLE
I used all the commonly recommended resources out there (Ridiculously simple, Examination and board review, bugcards, ect.) and in my opinion this is by far the best one for med micro.Not only does it help you to start thinking clinically with the case scenerios on the front of each card but each card is basically an "everything you need to know about this bug on a 5X7 card."Sure it may not fit in exactly with your school's cirriculum, but that doesn't discount the value of these cards.I used these cards both to study for the second year micro course and for the step 1 USMLE and scored a 260+.

Great Book
The Streetmedic's Handbook is a great book, it has really been a helpful intermediary between my textbook and my pocket guide in the field. The book organizes topics is in alphabetic order, making it easy to find and refresh yourself on difficult topics such as chest pain, shock, and ECG interpretation. Also included are articles on identifying abuse, correct technique for needle cricothhyrotomy, oral case presentations (verbal reports), and more (plus a drug guide). Definitely recommended as a compliment to your field guide and much easier than lugging your Paramedic textbook on clinicals.

Excellant Book
This is an Excellant Must Have Book.It presents the most common types of emergencies that medics get called to in a easy to understand way.

Must have book for new medics
New medics in particular should grab up this book.I eagerly await a second edition but I have found no other book that cuts to the chase and explains differential diagnosis of about 40 common EMS conditions as well.I strongly encourage new EMS folks to buy this book as the wealth of information that is in here is amazing.While some of the information is old -- I don't think it has been updated since the ACLS changes of 2000, it still has a great deal of good information throughout and should be added to required text lists of NREMT-P and NREMT-I programs. ... World Class Reference
The content is superb, immages a unique variety and quality usually not seen in a reference book in this price category.Since so many of the images are wounds it is a "must have" for hospital outpatient wound clinics.I showed this book to a Fort Lauderdale area wound specialist who heads wound care clinics in three major area hospitals and he immediately ordereed copies for his office and all three clinics.
Disappointing

A useful resource
I found this CD to be a great resource in addition to justreading, reading, reading.There are pictures and x-rays and the format gives you a chance to practice taking an electronic exam.Some of the questions are repeated, but it helped me focus on areas I needed to work on most.I passed my boards the first time, and I know this CD helped.
waste of money and time
I bought this cd and have been disappointed from day one.First of all, there are only 200 questions per section (5 sections) which means you will be through this cd in less than a weeks time....you'd be better off buyng the book set instead.As well, when you take the mock exams you will soon discover that they have cut corners once again and have recycled questions from the previous sections into the exam.This does not test your knowledge, it tests your ability to memorize.When you're done your exam you can look at which questions you got right and wrong, but be careful because once you quit the cd, all that info is lost and you'll never get to see your precious exam marks again!All in all, i was thoroughly dissapointed with my purchase and would have been better off without it.By the way, i haven;t even written my board exam, so i am not blaming this cd for poor exam results...yet! ...
