Great book for a cheap buy
This book is good for all medical-surgical nursing classes.It helped me out a lot when I found out about this book in second semester.It helped to improve my grades by focusing on what the nure must look for----signs and symptoms, interventions, etc.I would recommend this book for any serious nursing student out there who knows how to use resources like this effectively.

I have used this book all semester and plan to use it for next semester also. It is very well written. It is alot easier to understand then a textbook. Buy it for Simbryo and as a reference
This book is our text for Embryo. You can learn just using it, I guess, but only if you don't place much value on your time. You are much better getting a copy of lippincott BRS embryo, reading that to understand the concepts, using the included Simbryo CD to reinforce them (Simbryo is excellent!), then reading Langman for detail/additional reinforcement. The book is terse and poorly organized, but it provides good detail that you probably won't get elsewhere. Use it, but don't expect to learn from it efficiently unless it's augmented by a detailed lecture or some other material.

The 5 stars are by mistake ... 3 top's !
First, it is much more thorough than any the other embryology books. Second, it is much less understandable.

Excellent resource, but not without its flaws
This enormous stack of cards is organized alphabetically by generic drug name, with the addition of some schematic/ drug classes cards.Each specific drug card lists the mechanism, clinical applications, resistance (if applicable), side effects, contraindications, metabolism, interactions with other drugs, and misc. notes.The other side of the card depicts the structure, and any other pictures that facilitate understanding of the mechanism or the drug's site of action.The cards have good organization of the facts and clear pictures (though I am NOT memorizing those structures!), and it seems that all the most important information is there and accurate.
Good quick reference
This is a good quick reference for the class and allows the mechanisms to be more understandable.It will continually need updates and new editions though since the drugs are always changing. ... Read more

Awesome book for pathology residents!!
This book is a wonderful review of surgical pathology.The questions are extremely high quality.It is obvious much time was spent in their construction.The answer explanations are lucid, complete, and consise.You really do not need to own Sternberg's in order to benefit from this book.It is also a great companion to Rosai, the WHO books, or AFIP fascicles.These days it is really impossible to know everything in pathology which can be very frustrating.With this book, however, it has actually been entertaining to study for the surgical pathololgy portion of the boards.If you are a pathology resident, I highly recommend getting this book.I only wish it was available when I was a first year. ... Not deep, but a great supplement
This book's style is more fun than say FirstAid and much needed break at times from the more focused BRS books. It doesn't go very deep, but covers more of the high yield information in a style most of my classmates and I have found very readable cover-to-cover.

good explanations
If you need to understand concepts, get this book; if used after you exausted too many other sources, you may get little benefit from it. Still, it's a good book, you can use it to think "why" is that or that so and nothing is left unexplained.

Best text for shelf exams.
High yield for shelf exams. THick, but quick and fast read. Borrow a copy. For step 2, use Pre-test pediatrics.

Case Files for Pediatrics is an easy-to-read high-yield source to study during the pediatric clerkship or review for Boards.It was a great adjunct for shelf exam preparation.

Excellent light read for Step 2 CK
I started using Case Files halfway through my 3rd year as it was gaining popularity.My shelf grades soared with this light reading.Unfortunately, I had pediatrics before I learned about the Case Files series.So, for Step 2, I needed a good review source.I read this in 2 days and peds was one of my best sections on Step 2.I can't stress enough how the layout of this series lends to a high yield review that doesn't take extreme concentration.This series is almost all you need for third year! ... The best review there is!
I used five different review books on my clerkship and this was by far my favorite.Compared to Case Files, there are more topics and the format was definitely better.

Nms Surgery Casebook
I really like this book.The book is presented in a case-based question/answer format.The book is written in narrative form (no bullets, or choppy info).I like the design of the book and it's easy to read and understand.The cases presented are classic and in-depth.It's a long read though, and may be too much for boards when its crunch time.I used it mostly for reference and when I didn't understand something when I was studying for Step 2.It's a great book for 3rd year surgery rotation and the shelf exam.Good luck!!

Excellent book for shelf exam and surgery rotation.
I just finished my surgery rotation and took the shelf exam. I have to say that reading this book really prepared me for the shelf and also for the whole surgery rotation. I highly recommend this book. You may also want to have a question book such as pre-test surgery to do some practice questions.

Great system for learning terminology quickly
I am a midwifery student and I needed to learn medical terminology. This book is set up like a workbook. You can fill it in as you go. By filling in the blanks, making up flash cards, and taking the quizzes, I was able to learn a lot of medical terminology in a short amount of time. Much of the terminology in medicine is very logical, using root words, suffixes and prefixes. If you learn these, you can figure out the meaning of a lot of medical terms. Filling in blanks (especially when a lot of the answers are obvious) may seem redundant and like busy work, but by using more modalities for your learning process (auditory as you listen to the cd's, visual as you read, tactile as you write), you learn it so much more quickly and easily. There were some typos in the book and a few frames that were written incorrectly or in a confusing manner but not many. If you pay attention, you will catch them. I would advise the editors to do a better proofreading job in the next edition. This book is totally worth it if you are just starting out in the medical field. It is basic terminology but it will give you a great start. The book also covers some pathological, diagnostic, and therapeutic terms, as well as a section where you can practice reading sample medical records. Make sure you buy a book that is not filled in so you can fill it in yourself and get the most out of it.
