5-0 out of 5 stars Solid foundation for the MCAT
Ek bio - this is the STUFF!! I pwned the BS MCAT by reading this book 3 times and difficult topics 2-3 more times. Was able to teach myself microbiology and human physiology with this book. you don't need advance classes like genetics, cell bio, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Manageable study program
After being away from college for 10 years, I have found the MCAT review very comprehensive and manageable. The subjects are divided into separate books, which makes them very portable. The diagrams are fantastic, and the authors' sidenotes clarify what you need to know outright versus what's background info.If you need further help, there are Examcrackers resources for that too, such as flashcards and extra questions for each subject, so you don't have to pay for what you don't need.It is somewhat tailored for those with strong science skills, and weak verbal--the Verbal Reasoning book really walks you through the basics.Since that is my strong suit, I don't need my hand held for that, while I do for Physics, so I guess my only complaint would be that they assume you're a science wizard and verbal dummy, so those of us with the opposite skills don't get the same benefit of that stereotype.I know, probably most medical students fit that mold, but that doesn't mean those of us who have to work a tad harder don't belong in the profession--once you know it, you know it.There's room for all types, as well as a need!Good program overall, I'm very pleased, and would recommend to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Book and a lot of material
This book is worth the price! It gives you a lot of material to work with. I studied these the second time I took the MCAT for a period of 4-5 weeks. After which I took my old Princeton exams, I aced them without even touching my old Princeton notes. While admissionsmystery .combook is great/insightful for AMCAS application strategy, I think these set of books are great for the MCAT. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very difficult questions
Passages are easier to read than Princeton Review and AAMC tests. The wording of the questions is not as convoluted as the AAMC tests. However, the questions are very difficult to answer.Often times there is not enough information in the passage to correctly answer the questions, and it seems like there could be information to support more than one answer choice. While it's true that questions on AAMC practice MCATs 7,8,9 have many attractive 'trap' answer choices, this book takes that to the extreme. Therefore, I don't know if this is an accurate representation of the verbal section.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Practice, but Far from Perfect
Given the usually high profiled stuff from ExamKrackers, this book was for me a disappointment. Let me just say that if you want to score high on verbal, more practice is a must, therefore it's logical to get this book. However, if you are looking for a very clean practice, this book doesn't deliver. While i recognize that verbal section on the MCAT can easily allude to personal bias and subjective opinions, on the actual MCAT the 'correct' answer should be easily justified from the 'inccorect' answers. Around a little over 2/3 of the questions in this book fit that description, everything else is full of ambiguous and unsupported answers, many passages tho interesting are abstract and difficult to read. This can get extremely frustrating if you are expecting to see concrete improvements. However, by dealing with these flaws, and sometimes overly difficult (downright impossible or simply incorrect) questions, you might still gain something that will give u an extra edge on the actual MCAT, which could be sufficently more clear and precise given that it is the verbal section.

5-0 out of 5 stars Verbal Reasoning is not easy, GET THIS!!
As hard as you'll work on preparation for this exam- your preparation for the Verbal Reasoning section will be the most important. Most people complain about this section. I was included, until I took studying for it head on. I needed all the practice I could get and this book gave me 2 passages a day for 50 days. I timed myself (18 min total, 9 minutes a passage for the two) and corrected it that day. It increased my speed and ability. The guys that write these Exam Krackers books only want you to do well. I can tell after working on this stuff for five months straight that is the case. -Matthew Wolak ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jordan and Jon's voice will be echoing in your head
The Examkrackers series is absolutely wonderful, and I think the Audio Osmosis really helps to reinforce concepts. It should be utilised as a supplement to TPR, Kaplan or EK books.

4-0 out of 5 stars extra help for mcat prep
This seems like a good way to review. I have taken the mcat once (w/o audio osmosis) and am studying to take it again. So far, I've listened to the discs once through, and I think that being able to hear concepts while at work or on the train to/from work will help cement them in addition to reading, reviewing, and taking practice tests. DO NOT think you'll ace the mcat w/o practice tests, but it's an amusing set of discs with some good sound effects, asides, and mnemonics to help commit concepts to memory. I'm pretty confident it should help.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delivery time
It took a long time from Amazon to deliver the item to me and I did not feel good about since my exam was getting closer to the date of delivering the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Physics Practice
This book has a pro and a con associated with it. The pro is that it is a plethra of free standing questions and will definitely prepare you for that aspect of the MCAT without a doubt. The con is actually only a semi con...there are no passages in this book which means you won't get practice in scanning for important facts. This isn't the end of the world, though, because the MCAT physical sciences section is highly conceptual, and this book drills the concepts like there's no tomorrow. For practice with passages, you can go to the AAMC site and download a few of their practice tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Physics Practice
I really found this book very, very helpful.I thought it covered every topic on the MCAT.Some of the questions were a little easier than McAT, and some seemed a little more difficult than MCAT, but they all seemed like McAT questions to me.You can't beat the online help offered with this book.THe author himself answers your science questions. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Exam Style
This book is a hasty review of Orgo, but it covers most of the MCAT material in relatively small number of pages. Although some diagrams are not very helpful, it tells you most of what you need. It is basically a good book if you are a time-pressed pre-med trying to take the MCAT in 2 months. If you have more time, I recommend reading over your orgo textbook once more and doing problem sets in various other MCAT preparation materials (the ones with only MCAT style problems). Hope this helps.

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent
This book was decent in that it reviewed some of the fundemental concepts necessary for the MCAT.However, most of the questions were too easy, and none resemble the format of an actual MCAT question (not passage based). There were some errors, but easy to identify. The book was worth having for extra practice if you have the money, but don't expect much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect practice problems for MCAT
Practice is the key to the MCAT.Review is an essential first step, but is only part of the complete preparation for the MCAT.ORGO 1001 will help you guys ace the Biological Science questions.Everything from stereochemistry to lab techniques is in this book. There are over 90 stereochemistry questions alone. This book won't guarantee a 15, but it may help raise your score a couple points. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
I thought this product was good but I didn't receive it until right after I took the mcat.I did look at it and everything seemed to be in order and very helpful if you didn't want to make the cards yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sarah
Worth the money. An easy to use quick reference of key terms that you can take on-the-go.It won't cover all your study needs, but it does what it was intended to do well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A+for Absolutely Awesome
The person who made the previous post obviously didn't look very hard at the book or try to study with it, or they would have realized that the definitions upside-down beneath the words are NOT the definition to THAT word. This is a long, thin book of flashcards with a vocab word on the Front of the page and the definition on the Back of the same page. The book does go upside down, but this is because there are more words/defs printed upside-down, therefore using the entire page (since the single word/definitions only take up half a page). So the book read right-side up is Bio, and the book held upside down and read normally is half Bio and half Orgo Chem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Examkrackers Chemistry
This is a very good book. Amazon shipped it right away, in excellent condition. This book will help you get ready for the MCATs by acting as your very own tutor. I recommend getting all of the Examkracker series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for high yield review
To get into Med school after 15yrs in business I took my Organic Chem series over again, studied Exam Kracker's 101 series until I knew the books cold, listened to EK's Audio Osmosis about 10 times while communiting then took several full length practice tests.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent.Do be fooled by other texts, this rocks!!!
First of all, if you consider yourself a 'pre-med' and serious about the MCAT, then as such you probably would've done some research about your products you are using... judging from the other reviews, they have not.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
Many of the other reviews sound disappointed in the depth of the explanations. When using this book, it is important to remember that it is a REVIEW, not a teaching textbook.Kaplan definitely makes the assumption that you have had in-depth courses in the the subjects by making references to things but not providing much explanation. This book is best used, in my opinion, as a sort of checklist for possible material that could be on the MCAT.If there is any area the preparee is weak in, the best way to re-learn it is to find an actual textbook.
3-0 out of 5 stars Overall a very good place to start
I have used the MCAT material on the CDs before. After studying other MCAT material regularly for about 12 weeks, I cracked open this book and software, and took the practice exams over the course of 4 weeks. I got this book dirt cheap using the strategies given in this other book me and my roommate brought from admissionsmystery. com which also a very insightful book. This book at times is humbling and punishing. The reading passages are long and confusing. Nonetheless, this book was pivotal in me achieving a high MCAT score. Yet of course you are taking the MCAT, you are going to having more reference material than this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good book to start with
Personally, I found this book pretty helpful, and I have no complaints about it as I scored high having spent about half of my prep. time with this book. As I said, it's a good place to start. Beware, though, that this book alone will not be enough. As some reviewers complained, this book is not all that thorough, so it helps immensely if you have taken classes on the covered subjects and actually remember what you've learned. I personally had to use my old textbooks a bit to understand some things outlined in this book. But, MCAT being as comprehensive as it is, I don't think you can expect a single book to thoroughly cover everything you need to know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise review of Biology and Verbal portions of the MCAT
This book covers all the basics of biology. For someone like me, who had a lacking undergrad bio course, this book helps. The diagrams throughout the book are very helpful because they give you another way of remembering the concepts. This book is limited with testing questions, and is betterused as a study aid.All in all, this is great for reviewing bio, but itshould not be your only source of studying for the MCAT bio section.Ihave not yet looked at the verbal section, but it looks promising. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent prep guide
I have experimented with a lot of the preparation guides for the Physics portion of the MCAT, and I found this book to be an excellent guide. What I liked most about it was how the author has a general discussion of major concepts, and then follows each chapter with a quiz on the topics. I found that the questions, though a little easier than the real MCAT, accurately mirrored the type of reasoning and thinking behind real MCAT questions. Unlike Kaplan and Princeton Review, which overemphasize the need for quantitative calculations, I found that this book rightly emphasized concepts. This book does a fantastic job of allowing the student to get a real idea of what MCAT questions are like, and simulataneously, acts as a great concept reinforcer. I would not use this book alone to prepare for the MCAT, but it certainly does an exceptional job of laying down the concepts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review
I appreciate the humor which Biehle brings to the subject- the review he provides is quite thorough.I would have liked to have seen some combination concept passages (e.g. thermodynamics, fluids, and work-energy in one passage) because I feel that is the direction that the MCATs are heading in- but overall I am really satisfied with this purchase.

3-0 out of 5 stars An average book
I found this book to be moderately helpful but not accurately representative of how MCAT passages really are. Can definitely use it as a guide for what subject material you need to study, but overall, it's not worth the rather expensive price. I found other Examkrackers products to be more helpful, especially the "1001 questions" series (although those are also quite expensive).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Practice
A good book to supplement your other study materials, especially if you use other examkrackers books. The 1 hour format of each mini mcat makes it easy to fit into your study schedule. The only drawback is at times the questions can be overly hard, especially in biology. But a good book none the less. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars cannot be better than this
This book is just awesome. You will not regret buying this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful preparation
The Biological Sciences segment of the MCAT contains the material that is least likely to have been comprehensively covered by the coursework of a typical undergraduate. While the chemistry and physics (and organic chemistry) elements of the test are all fairly similar to university syllabi, the broad sweep of MCAT's biology topics (biochemistry to anatomy, and selections from everything in between) makes it unlikely that any one or two courses could cover them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!
You will improve everytime you solve problems on this book. Very solid contents with passages that are really going to help you on the MCAT. Although I think they are harder than the real MCAT problems (some questions are vague) you will learn alot by doing it rather than reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great MCAT Bio review
If you have the time to go through 1001 questions, then this is the book you're looking for to prepare for the MCAT Bio section. What I liked about it is that it contains both passages-based and discrete questions. In fact, I'd recommend all the 1001 Examkrackers books.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great find
This book is by far the best in terms of MCAT biology prep. Other companies overwhelm readers with facts and irrelevant information, while Examkrackers gives you what you need to know, and provides you with "1001 questions" in MCAT passage-style form to ensure that you know more than just the science: you also know how to take the MCAT.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great full length exams...okay review of material.
It's easy to be frustrated by the sheer amount of practice material available for the MCAT. You have Princeton Review, Kaplan, Examkrackers, Berkeley Review, Columbia Review etc. You type in MCAT on Amzon search, you will be bombarded with thousands of materials. And to maker matters worse you have people posting fake reviews from the publisher or the manufacturer. Just look at a couple of the very enthusiastic reviews and you'll see what I mean. All these companies profess that their material is the one that will help you get a competitive score but sadly very few companies deliver the goods. That said, I picked up the Gold Standard based on word of mouth. Although the book and the author is reputable, you will not hear about this book as much.
5-0 out of 5 stars Probably The Best Single MCAT Book
I don't understand how people can write a review on mcat books if they haven't even written the mcat.I wrote the april 2005 test and here is the result: PS 13 - VR 14 - WS T - BS 12; overall 39T.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not very good ...
I bought this book to prepare for this coming April MCAT and I think I made the big mistake in my life ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Use in Combination with Another Review Book
I find that this review book does the best job of directly telling what will and what will not be on the MCAT (I'm basing my comparison to Kaplan's and Princeton Review's Physics materials).Be forewarned, you must have a good background knowledge of introductory Physics to get the maximum benefit from this book.If you are in need of deep, thorough review of Physics (i.e. your Physics is weak), I wouldn't start here.I am using this book as a complement to Kaplan's review book that I received when I enrolled in Kaplan's MCAT course.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ecellent Review Material
The ExamKrackers Books Break everything you need to know for The MCAT down their simplest forms.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Study with this book.
I do not recommend this book. Not only it is poorly written, it will not give you the understanding you will need to do well on MCAT physics. This book is clearly not written by someone who REALLY understands physics. The questions at the end of each topic are way harder than the material covered and the explanation are poor and incomplete.STAY AWAY! I wish someone had told me this and had saved me time. ... Read more
