Solid foundation for the MCAT
Ek bio - this is the STUFF!! I pwned the BS MCAT by reading this book 3 times and difficult topics 2-3 more times. Was able to teach myself microbiology and human physiology with this book. you don't need advance classes like genetics, cell bio, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry etc.
Manageable study program
After being away from college for 10 years, I have found the MCAT review very comprehensive and manageable.The subjects are divided into separate books, which makes them very portable.The diagrams are fantastic, and the authors' sidenotes clarify what you need to know outright versus what's background info.If you need further help, there are Examcrackers resources for that too, such as flashcards and extra questions for each subject, so you don't have to pay for what you don't need.It is somewhat tailored for those with strong science skills, and weak verbal--the Verbal Reasoning book really walks you through the basics.Since that is my strong suit, I don't need my hand held for that, while I do for Physics, so I guess my only complaint would be that they assume you're a science wizard and verbal dummy, so those of us with the opposite skills don't get the same benefit of that stereotype.I know, probably most medical students fit that mold, but that doesn't mean those of us who have to work a tad harder don't belong in the profession--once you know it, you know it.There's room for all types, as well as a need!Good program overall, I'm very pleased, and would recommend to anyone.

Exceptional Book and a lot of material
This book is worth the price! It gives you a lot of material to work with. I studied these the second time I took the MCAT for a period of 4-5 weeks. After which I took my old Princeton exams, I aced them without even touching my old Princeton notes. Delivery time
It took a long time from Amazon to deliver the item to me and I did not feel good about since my exam was getting closer to the date of delivering the book.
Good Physics Practice
This book has a pro and a con associated with it. The pro is that it is a plethra of free standing questions and will definitely prepare you for that aspect of the MCAT without a doubt. The con is actually only a semi con...there are no passages in this book which means you won't get practice in scanning for important facts. This isn't the end of the world, though, because the MCAT physical sciences section is highly conceptual, and this book drills the concepts like there's no tomorrow. For practice with passages, you can go to the AAMC site and download a few of their practice tests.

Great Physics Practice
I really found this book very, very helpful.I thought it covered every topic on the MCAT.Some of the questions were a little easier than McAT, and some seemed a little more difficult than MCAT, but they all seemed like McAT questions to me.You can't beat the online help offered with this book.THe author himself answers your science questions.Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. ... Exam Style
This book is a hasty review of Orgo, but it covers most of the MCAT material in relatively small number of pages. Although some diagrams are not very helpful, it tells you most of what you need. It is basically a good book if you are a time-pressed pre-med trying to take the MCAT in 2 months. If you have more time, I recommend reading over your orgo textbook once more and doing problem sets in various other MCAT preparation materials (the ones with only MCAT style problems). Hope this helps.

Decent
This book was decent in that it reviewed some of the fundemental concepts necessary for the MCAT.However, most of the questions were too easy, and none resemble the format of an actual MCAT question (not passage based).There were some errors, but easy to identify.The book was worth having for extra practice if you have the money, but don't expect much.

Perfect practice problems for MCAT

science questions too easy
took my DAT this past week and this did not improve my score. The General Science questions in the tests were much easier than the actual DAT. Perhaps the questions were old.Reading Comp was good

All these reviews are pretty accurate!
I read other reviews and decided to purchase this item. I must say that all of the reviews were pretty accurate. It was a wonderful tool, it had some problems (ex: wrong answer to a couple of questions), but was pretty true to the actual form of the DAT. Word up.

TopScore DAT software
If you're going to prepare for the DAT, purchasing this software is still a good idea. However, please be aware of certain weaknesses of this software, as there are some: 1) After taking the real DAT, I realized the science sections of this software were more difficult, partly due to the highly specific nature of the questions. 2) I noted that there were an annoying number of incorrect answers on the PAT sections of this test. A portion of the sample questions were clearly variations of those on the official test. Yet, some of these figures were misdrawn, (esp on the top-front-end sections) such that diagrams contradicted each other. Therefore, we're forced to guess between two wrong answers, trying to predict which was the intended correct answer. ... Read more

Don't bother
This book is absolutely HORRIBLE. Everything was just WAY too easy. The biology and chemistry portions consist of one-liners that barely scratch the surface of a topic. The spatial aptitude review problems are way too easy to even compare to anything you would see on the actual DAT. Plus, there aren't alot of them to practice on. I have never felt more "scammed" in the purchase of a book. I can't believe that such a well respected company like Kaplan would dare publish a test aid that was so watered-down. ... Read more

Decent
Many of the other reviews sound disappointed in the depth of the explanations.When using this book, it is important to remember that it is a REVIEW, not a teaching textbook.Kaplan definitely makes the assumption that you have had in-depth courses in the the subjects by making references to things but not providing much explanation.This book is best used, in my opinion, as a sort of checklist for possible material that could be on the MCAT.If there is any area the preparee is weak in, the best way to re-learn it is to find an actual textbook.
Overall a very good place to start
I have used the MCAT material on the CDs before. After studying other MCAT material regularly for about 12 weeks, I cracked open this book and software, and took the practice exams over the course of 4 weeks. I got this book dirt cheap using the strategies given in this other book me and my roommate brought from admissionsmystery. com which also a very insightful book. This book at times is humbling and punishing. The reading passages are long and confusing. Nonetheless, this book was pivotal in me achieving a high MCAT score. Yet of course you are taking the MCAT, you are going to having more reference material than this book.

a good book to start with
Personally, I found this book pretty helpful, and I have no complaints about it as I scored high having spent about half of my prep. time with this book. As I said, it's a good place to start. Beware, though, that this book alone will not be enough. As some reviewers complained, this book is not all that thorough, so it helps immensely if you have taken classes on the covered subjects and actually remember what you've learned. I personally had to use my old textbooks a bit to understand some things outlined in this book. But, MCAT being as comprehensive as it is, I don't think you can expect a single book to thoroughly cover everything you need to know.

I can't even tell you how many books I have purchased that claim they offer only info. relavant to the MCAT and nothing more...in which they wind up giving you all the superfluous stuff that *may* be on the MCAT.

Concise review of Biology and Verbal portions of the MCAT
This book covers all the basics of biology.For someone like me, who had a lacking undergrad bio course, this book helps.The diagrams throughout the book are very helpful because they give you another way of remembering the concepts.This book is limited with testing questions, and is betterused as a study aid.All in all, this is great for reviewing bio, but itshould not be your only source of studying for the MCAT bio section.Ihave not yet looked at the verbal section, but it looks promising. ... poor compared to blueprints
I bought this book as well as Blueprints and Case Files because they were all highly rated.Generally I found Blueprints to be far better than First Aid.It is better in preparing you for the shelf and for pimping on the rounds.I found First Aid to be poorly organized and not nearly detailed enough for the shelf.The book is organized into an outline format with lots and lots of lists and bullets with little explanation and few useful mnemonics to actually help you retain the data.There were also lots of "pearls" on the margins that were more distracting than useful.Finally the book suffers from not having a table of common acronyms which made it extremely difficult to read/understand in the first week or two.Though I can imagine this book being a good review once you've already gone through the material (that's what I ended up using it for), in my opinion it is wholly inadequate as your only reading source.Blueprints and Case Files, along with a question book, are what you really need to do well on the shelf.

The best DAT prep. Material
Basically this is the best United States Dental admissions material accompanied with three other items look for my name to get the best possible material for the DAT with this book .
Helpfulness with Kaplan's DAT Third Edition
I am using mainly the Kaplan book in my preparation for the DAT.The review materials are concise and the examples are very helpful.It also comes with a practice test on the CD which I feel is necessary to prepare for this test.Overall, I am happy with the purchase.

Dont bother with the Math section
There are so many errors in the match section of this book! They do not even know what the proper algebraic usage is for multiplication/division versus addition/subtraction! They give you one question, but when they deduce the answer it is a totally different question, so of course your answers are going to be wrong! I didnt even bother with the Science section, this book is going in the garbage pile!

Good book for general review but...
...not based on what was on my Nursing Entrance Test.I took the NET today (and received a score I'm happy with) so I have to give this book some credit, with the emphasis on "some." After completing this book and using it solely as my review/study guide, I am a bit disappointed.Credit due, this was a very good, well-written, somewhat helpful book but not (known now after taking the test) what I should have been looking for.The problem being it has a lot of areas that are NOT on the test.When studying for a test of this magnitude (a requirement of a specific score to be Qualified to even Apply to nursing school,) I want to Know I am studying what is ON the NET and NOT any unessential information.
A lot of money for not very much book....
But as long as it gives me the information I need to score well on my PSB-RN test, it will have been very much worth it.After reading the Arco guide and taking some of the sample tests, I was ready to panic...then I took the sample tests in this book and got most of the answers right.Neither this guide nor the Arco guide goes into very much detail about the level of difficulty someone would encounter on the PSB-RN test, which concerns me because I need to know just how much physics, chemistry, and biology I need to learn between now and the test.I guess I'll err on the side of caution!

Good for PAT section
First of all, this book is not as bad as others make it out to be.But I think people should realize that this book is NOT a complete guide for the DAT.The science review sections were condensed...very much like preliminary lecture notes.However, the PAT section was very helpful.I found the level of hardness on the real test very similar to the book's.What I suggest is you use Kaplan or TopScore (some very heavy duty review books) along with this book for the PAT section.Then, a few days before the test, flip this book open to go through the materials quickly to keep your brain in science mode.And, of course, constantly practice the PAT section.My prelimary PAT score was 13 when I signed up for Kaplan (which was useless btw), and with this book I got an 18 on the real PAT.

A Closer Look at Barron's
I am using this book in conjunction with the Kaplan review book to study for the DAT.The information is good, but the book does lack a CD Rom practice test, which I feel is necessary to properly prepare for the test.It is a great complement to other review materials, but I don't think it would work as well alone.

This book has obviously not been updated in years.Many of the answers are inaccurate, so you are not sure if you are understanding the concept or if the book is wrong.Additionally, the author did not take the time to do the research to make sure all of the information is correct.Please, please do not waste your time or money buying this book. ... Ultimate Guide to Medical Schools
