Handy reference
I didn't have this book during my P3 (3rd year of PharmD school) year; we used the text by Kradjan that had a patient-based format. DePiro's more traditional format makes it easier to find info quickly. The downloadable format of this text (which comes with the book) makes it even faster to find info. A downside would be books like these are out-of-date as soon as they're published, but I've been using the DePiro just fine for my P4 clerkships and plan to use Kradjan's as a doorstop. (I'm not really a kid)

I received my order fairly quickly and the book was great. I would definately order from them again.

hands down, this behemoth deserves 5 stars
Yes, 1616 pages and 2 inches thick of madness can be intimidating, but this book is sheer awesomeness in lots of ways. Whether you are self-taught, actually taking the class, or just want a desk reference for cell bio, this is definitely the one to get.
The Canonical Work
This is a beautifully written textbook that presents the canonical version of what is currently known about cellular biology at the molecular level.The illustrations are clear and the text is easy to follow.The only shortcoming of the book is that, necessarily, it stays above the messy details in order to maintain clarity.The result, inevitably, is that some areas are glossed over (transcription activation is one example, but there are many others) and some areas appear to be understood when in reality there is a great deal of disagreement (for example, gene splicing).But these omissions are appropriate because the intention of the book is to provide an overview, not a specialist in-depth examination of every topic.This is a great primer for college students or educated people wanting to know just a little more detail about how life works.
Simply love it---a plethora of information
This book is a wonderful source of knowledge for anyone who is interested in cell biology; or if you are studying it--like myself.I give a 100% gaurantee that if you purchase this book you will be satisfied. I just finished reading the chapter on pathogens; wow so much information - it's truly ubelievable. That is what else I love about this book: it can be read sectionally. All one has to do is read the first three chapters to establish a foundation of the basic knowledge; you can skip that step all together if you know your stuff. Simply put: buy this book. Also, I forgot to mention that it includes a beautifully designed CD-ROM; it has animations that suppliment what you learned and more--not your average CD extra. Excellent Reference Book - For Lawyers???
I work in law not medicine.I bought Taber's because of the many personal injury cases with which I was involved.People talk about legal language - nothing compares to medical terminology.
Great staple for anyone in the medical field
Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary is all encompassing, defining the simplest to the most complex terms. To be honest, however, I rarely even open it because it came with access to their website for a 6 mo trial. Since I do most of my work (I'm still in school) on the computer, it's much easier for me to run a search than go get the book. Potential buyers: this is more of a "dictionary" than encyclopedia. You're not going to get long explanations but short definitions, otherwise it would be volumes and volumes long. One more thing: it's a very pretty book - well bound; having it on your book shelf makes you look like you actually might know what you're doing!! ... Read more

Incomparable
You've got to have a Netter's Atlas on hand.You never know when you'll need it.Even if you are well out of medical school, well cocooned in your tight little sub-specialty, you still need Netter.You never know when your elderly neighbor is going to knock on your door and ask you precisely which muscle in her back hurts when she stands up, just to pick a random example.
Can you imagine that the pictures drawn by Netter are far much clearer than what we saw during dissections?
I remembered that when we did dissections in the anatomy class throughout the anatomy classes of the 1st 2 years, one student per table (who do not want to touch the corpse) would be responsible to bring and hold the Netter for the entire lesson. Netter really helped us a lot! I have browsed many other anatomy atlas and have not yet found one that is better than Netter. Although some atlases contain real pictures, they are not as clear as that in Netter! I can say, "Netter + Moore" is the golden combination for anatomy!
Visual Learner
If "a picture could say a thousand words", this book is it.I am an LPN turned Medical Coder.The book has made Anatomy `come alive'.I struggled through 2 anatomy/physiology classes in the above 2 programs & still did not feel like I understood.If you are a visual learner, this book is a must.It does have to be supplemented with written text as others have said, I use a google search when my textbooks are not enough.To determine if this book would be helpful, think of it like this, if you put together a big entertainment center, which would you find more helpful: diagrams of where each screw, nut & bolt gets attached to what piece, OR by reading a description of each piece & the description of the piece it gets attached to.For me its diagrams, so the book for me was well worth the cost ($69 + tax at Barnes & Noble, 3rd edition, soft cover). ... Becoming One With the Points
This is an excellent read for any acupuncture student, practitioner or enthusiast!Deadman's language is poetry.The points come alive when reading this text!
Peter Deadman's A Manual of Acupuncture
Not possible to find a better English language reference source than this book. I have used the book in hard copy but prefer it on CD. Quick to find items using CD and a notebook and CD weigh less that the actual manual. The pronunciations that come with the book on CD seem accurate, depending on the area from whence your Chinese comes. Good background data for all point locations and rationale for their use.

I read this as a student in my 3rd and 4th year. This book will help you be a better physician, no matter what specialty. If you buy one book your entire career, this is it.

Most accurate and cool. Go on editors...
I'm the physician who've alredy suggested HPIM to use color boxes, to summerize many longer chapters like infections, to enlarge many chapters like cardiology, to make pocket version thinner and larger, etc. You editors, reall proffesionals. Because you follow the readers. Do you read the other feedbacks? You see most of other professionals thank for the same topics. Now, I'd like to suggest three more thing, which have not been performed yet: HPIM must be reduced (it must be only one volume) and editors need to follow updates more. Medicine is not AIDS, only. Do you follow the latest datas related to diabetes, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, etc. Because their prevalence is higher than 10%. If you think about these suggestions, I think HPIM may go on to be no 1 in this field. I'd like to write more to editors and publishers if they reply.

Also great for specialties outside of internal medicine
So, everyone knows that Harrison's is the Bible for internists and residents of internal medicine.As a 3rd year medical student, I used the book to research whenever I had to give a presentation or wanted to know more about my patients.

I'm in Biology heaven
Ah, the holy grail of textbooks: To find a textbook that is completely clear, explains all aspects of the subject, lets you understand rather than just memorize so you can think independently on the subject and actually enjoyable to read.Textbooks like those are incredibly rare and they are worth their weight in gold once you find them.Looks like we found one for biology.

Poor Organization
I decided to buy this book instead of borrowing from the library because of the pretty colorful pictures it has. However, I regret spending $100 on this book because the text is poorly orgnanized. Although some chapters are written well, you will see content are scrambled within some chapters making it hard to take notes. There are also errors like they mentioned that Th cell help cellular response, but they ever tell you how. The activation gate and inactivation gate mentioned in the neuron chapters are confusing. The mentioned it on the text, but they don't show it on the pictures.

If a doctor gives me or someone else I know a diagnosis, I can look it up in the Manual and get a straightforward, detailed writeup about it.I always use it in conjunction with a doctor.

Perhaps, the book is not horrible and it is just my class
This book tries so hard to make social and cultural variances seem like scientific fact. Of course, a nursing text should discuss patient care but not as always black and white; it edges on stereotyping at times. Conversely, if physiology is mentioned, the science behind the concept is often ignored. I think this book is based on pseudo-science at times.
Good soruce of information
This book provides good explanations for the various processes and procedures of nursing. I really like the additional material such as the CD and the website.

Passed NCLEX!!
This book is thick but it has all the necessary info you need to pass the NCLEX. I covered the whole book in about three weeks and did the CD in between. I even noticed some of the questions on the NCLEX itself had similar questions to the book.

Great and just what I needed
This is a very comprehensive review.I know it's supposed to be but the format is broken down into very easy to understand sections.The test and rationales for each chapter are extremely helpful.Highly recommend.

Intro to physical examination. Easy and harmless.Liked the chapter summary. This is a book for all health care profesionals. Physicians should use DeGowin or Sapira.

Index Incorrect
The index in the version I have is completely inaccurate.What's more, to obtain errata you're required to enter a code on the publisher's website.This code is not stamped on the book but is on the packaging which I unfortunately threw away before I noticed the index was completely inaccurate.
Save money, buy a used book !

Get the 10th edition.
I can't say that I'm pleased with the new edition. The information is grossly disorganized, there are no introductory chapters, and important information has been omitted or dumbed down, e.g. the section on fat-soluble vitamins, specifically vitamin A.
A complete Pharmacological Encyclopedia
This book is a complete pharmacological encyclopedia from its days of inception.It is useful to any physician as a desk reference.
A rehash
I am a physician, and recently used the previous (10th) edition as an overview for a presentation I was preparing on opioid analgesics.We just got our new, 11th edition, and I embarked on a comparison of the chapters.To my astonishment, despite the considerable ongoing research in opioid pharmacology, the chapters were practically identical, with the new edition providing NO substantive new information.I cannot speak to the rest of this venerable reference, but this chapter was just a rehash (and a big disappointment). ... Have the older version.
Used this in medical school. Excellent resource. In my time google and yahoo were not around, so this was the quick source. now that [...] is around, not as necessary, but still valuable. There is a pediatric version as well.
Great reference through the years
I have been using various iterations of Fitzpatrick throughout my 12 years of practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The organization, wealth of information, excellent photography (it really looks like what a provider sees in a person's skin!) all make it an invaluable reference. I am pleased to see the addition of more photography involving people of color, as upwards of 50% of the US population is now minority.

My preference overall in terms of derm texts is Habif, mostly due to organization, but this one comes in a close second.Lots of great pics and simple straightforward explanations (sometimes a little too simple).Also probably a great book for laypeople with some knowledge of medical terminology. ... This book is an excellent learning tool!
This book is a great textbook of emergency medicine, and I've chosen it over others simply because it's comprehensive without the useless drivel.Each section includes the necessary anatomy and pathophysiological considerations for the respective disoders.The subset of conditions are mentioned with just enough facts to understand the morbidity to treat it.The pictures, diagrams, algorithmic flow-charts, and drug regimens are a nice compliment, however, most of your clinical experience is going to come from interships and residency, so to assume this book is all you'll need to get by in EM is crazy.I still think it's the best out there to read before putting your mind to work.

Downward Spiral on Autopilot
*Emergency Medicine, A Comprehensive Study Guide* has long been a well-regarded standard emergency text, useful in day-to-day practice as well as for board preparation.This new edition has advanced the enlightened 'evidence-based recommendations' for changes in practice patterns, however, the lack of editorial control has resulted in a book packed with conflicting information.Each chapter is written by a different consultant, and unfortunately not all of them are up on this concept... we therefore get a series of conflicting statements when there is overlap in topics, and there is no attempt to reconcile this variability.Admittedly, opinions in much of medicine do vary; but outright conflict within a few pages in a standard text without discussion does harm to credibility.Read more

The Only Med School Book ThatWas a Good Purchase
This book is phenomenally written, lusciously diagrammed, thoughtfully organized, and brilliantly coherent.
Best textbook from second year!!
I got alot of [...] from my classmates for "wasting time" reading this book.Most people will tell you that it's too detailed and too long.But I feel that Robbins does a great job of weaving in high yield details from the basic sciences (Physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, anatomy, pathophysiology) into the material presented, so that you're not JUST studying pathology as you read through.I am a "network" learner, which means the more that I can connect what I'm reading with things I already know, the more easily I remember it.If you prefer learning this way, reading Big Robbins is a better use of your time than reading Basic Pathology or Fetal Robbins over and over again.To add some more weight to my words, I honored every class of second year EXCEPT for behavioral science, which, interestingly, gets no love from Robbins.I literally feel like half of what I learned second year I learned from reading Robbins, or at least is mentioned in Robbins if I learned it in another class.When I was studying for Step 1, Robbins served as an excellent reference for pretty much all the basic sciences as well as pathology.As much as I love this book, I unfortunately cannot boast that I read the whole thing through once.I'm gonna take a stab at it during 3rd and 4th year though...

The bible, but use it like Harrison's
Don't try to read this monster unless your going into Pathology. It's very well written, but you just don't have time to cover this many details. You need to focus more on the Boards relevant material which is covered in books MUCH smaller (Rapid Review or BRS Path).
