Great, but the same as the older edition
Lippincott Pharm is a fabulous book for medical students. It has the basics clearly outlined and nice tables to help you memorize them. The text is brief and clear. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it seems to be identical to the older edition, except that the little diagrams are in color. It's a lot more expensive than the older edition (millennium update edition) though! Take a look at the two together before you decide whether you want to shell out the money for the newer one.
Excellent book!
This book is amazing..Its so easy to read and so easy to understand. Goes through the chapters smoothly, providing all the information needed. Its especially helpfull to students but also can be used as a reference book. Most importandly, the illustration is impressive!!The tables, drawings, sketches and little pictures make it easier to memorize importand concepts and basic information and thus can make pharmacology fun!!

very good for coursework
I read this book along with my syllabus from BOD. This clears up some of the topics that aren't presented too clearly during BOD. It helped me do well in pharmacology. For the boards, this book should just be used as a reference if there are any concepts you don't understand in first aid. ... Read more

Great christmas gift!
I got this book for as a christmas gift but since it came unwrapped, I checked it out right away- it is awesome! This second edition has a smooother look to it, with more radiographs and tables. I have always been a fan of the margin tips and this edition does a great job with them. I have my medicine clerkship coming up next and already feel I am ahead of the game.

You need this book
This book is a must-have for anyone writing a college level or above paper.I've found that it's better used as a reference, not as the kind type of book you sit down and read.One warning, it is a manual, so it's pretty dry - dry, but necessary.

This book is the Bible for Historians!
I was instructed by several of my past professors that this book would be the guiding light in regards to submitting & creating scholarly materials in my academic writing matriculation.They were right, this book regardless of its many editions has been in my possession for the last 6-7 years.Academians of all concentrations when it comes down to the publishing of Termpapers, Thesis, or Dissertations, you really cannot go wrong with this Chicago-style format.This book made assessing materials, writing papers, citations, proper documentation, and even grading essay papers as a college instructor an enjoyable experience.However, as a undergraduate and graduate student I was introduced to this bible.Now I am entertaining the idea of future editing. good for IM residents
The only weakness is that there's no machanism of the meds.

Excellent pocket drug dosage reference
I am a resident physician and I find this book indispensable. It is the best reference for carrying in your pocket in order to look up drug doses. It has some other useful information such as pregnancy category, brand names, relative cost, peds dosing and other small but useful features. Nice index. I use this book several times a day every day (well, every work day), and it is the one book I make sure is always in my pocket. I use the classic T-shirt edition - it fits in the top pocket of my lab coat so nicely.

I use ePocrates for most of my minute to minute drug referencing but tarascon still has good information, especially less common brand names for common drugs and also very convenient other stuff like the dermatome diagrams. ... Read more

Fantastic book
This is a terrific book. It's written at a very basic, reader-friendly level. Likewise, the information is presented in a logical, organized manner. Also, the Student CD-Rom contains tons of extra resources, that really helped me master the material.

A Nurses Best Friend
While working as an office RN I am often asked by a patient questions about the "new" medication they are on.This book provides the answers.It's easy to read, each drug is broken into quick to find sections and it is very up-to-date.Don't practice nursing without this book!

ACLS Study Guide 3rd ED
I love this book!The author sounds exactly like me...scared to death to take an ACLS course.I have just started using this book but so far it has helped to calm my fears/anxiety. I also have the American Heart Association book, but this one explains things very basically for those of us not in critical care and/or have no critical care experience.It gets to the point in an understandable way.I would recommend it to anyone!

The book you need
As an infectious disease fellow, I recommend that anyone who want be an ID man should have such a book. Most infectious problems and diseases have been detailed in this book, although there are far going of emerging diseases and new antibiotics. A good clinical microbiology text
The two volume set is indeed a comprehensive reference work, but individual chapter can be read by themselves. I use this book on almost a daily basis, the only negative against it is that such a large book by its size can only be updated at intervals of a number of years so a folder in which to put your acculated journal articles next to it, until the next edition is advised as, infectious diseases is not a static field. Since there is a CD rom available now that may well be worth checking out. In closing for anybody involved in anything from clinical microbiology to a infectious disease specialist this book is a must.

Excellent for reference and study
This is now the fourth edition of this textbook that the reviewer has purchased.The first edition was the reviewer's companion during the senior year of medical school and residency training, when the appropriate sections were read whenever encountering patients with one of the discussed diseases.The second edition was the reviewer's most-used texbook during preparation for the anesthesiology oral examination.Most recently, a second copy of this most recent edition was purchased as the required textbook for a resident rotation in preoperative evaluation.This book has a place on the shelf of any anesthesiologist who is preparing for the oral boards or in practice.
Very Good
This book is very good for the integration of patient care with pathophysiological conditions or co-morbidities. A must have before addressing your patients with higher ASA number assignments.

An Excellent Text
If you have been dabbling in cognitive psychology and brain science, have found it interesting and are looking for a broad yet in-depth treatment then this book will not dissapoint you.It approaches Neuroscience from every possible angle: you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the brain and how it produces, controls and mediates the sensory, motor and emotional functions that underlie human experience.The layout of the text is logical, it uses great pedagogical tools, and the writing is concise and informative (if a little dry).Highly recommended as a first textbook for serious study.

A Brief Review of "Neuroscience"
I just finished using this book for an undergradutate Neurobiology class at Harvard University, and found it to be very informative. It has a number of diagrams and illustrations, and clearly describes various aspects of neuroscience in great detail,but in a comprehensive manor. I recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in neuroscience.

Not a definitive resource
This book has had praise heaped upon it by previous reviewers.I'd like to put that in perspective.As an undergraduate text or a general encyclopedic reference for the unitiated, this book is reasonably comprehensive and contains substantial high-quality illustrations.However as a reference for more advanced students, there is insufficient detail to motivate serious discussion.I find "Principles of Neural Science" by Kandel, Schwartz, and Jessell far more useful despite being a year older than Bear, et al.If the goal is to lift artwork for a pleasingly graphical PowerPoint presentation, this book is a fantastic resource, but if you want more than jargon and an introduction to the topic (albeit comprehensive), I'd look elsewhere. ... Great book for the wards and the NBME shelf
This is a must have during surgery clerkships. It's broken down into concise chapters that can quickly be reviewed (5-10 minutes) before a case or a conference. For example, we had a right hepatic lobectomy case on a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma. I spent about 20 minutes in the physicians locker room reviewing the liver chapters before the case. In surgery, I was easily able to answer nearly all questions from the staff surgeon and the chief resident. Most pimp questions can be found in this book. This book definitely gives you an edge on the clerkship. It provides fast access to many pertinent concepts that you'll need day in and day out on the wards, in the SICU and in the OR. Many pocket textbooks are just dead weight in your coat. This one is actually very useful.
Pimpin' ain't easy...
But Surgical Recall makes it easier.Basically, people get Recall for two reasons:1)they're not interested in surgery but have to rotate and do well in itor 2)they're genuinely interested in surgery.

whether you're planning to specialize in surgery or not, it is invaluable for you.

Geat Resource on the Subject.
This book offers insight to pain managment and lay out of patient procedures and functional use for pain controll. Highly recommend for students and doctors a like. Need strong medical back ground for the latter chapters, a good refernce for boards and residence programs.

Great book
I have recently received my book and am thrilled.I have seen it at several pain meetings, but hadn't pulled the trigger on which pain book would give me my most bang for the book (Waldman, Raj, etc.).Image-Guided Spine Intervention is an excellent book and accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, that is being a "how-to" book with superb imaging.In fact, I have yet to see a book that has more clear images than this book.While there are a few things that are missing in this book (discographic manometry, kyphoplasty-although the book came out just as this was emerging), all in the book is well worth the price.Reading Dr. Petersohn's commentary I wonder if we received the same book.The book is a "how-to" book and therefore is not intended to give clinical algorithms, although I admit it would make it an even more comprehensive book.The authors made the patient positioning understandable by referring to the projection with relation to the patient as opposed to the direction of the x-ray beam, which can be confusing.Perhaps in future editions, both positioning techniques can be given.With cervical transforaminal injections, one does not need a limiting AP projection to make sure one does not have cord or subdural penetration.If you follow their positioning and technique and intentionally hit the superior articular process, then walk a few mm anteriorly, you will necessarily be in the correct position, which is confirmed with contrast.For thoracic facet injections, previous reports including Dreyfuss demonstrate that one needs to start well inferior to the facet joint and angle cephalad in order to enter the coronally oriented thoracic facets.This book describes a technique, which demonstrates that this does not need to be done and that one can take a straight AP approach (proven with a CT injection) and still get the contrast into the entire joint.Dr. Chua's thoracic medial branch anatomy was just published this last year and post-dates this book.I agree there is no reason to give steroid after a facet denervation.The chapter on pharmacology was adequate for all pain practitioners.The book never sets out to be something to study for the boards.The statement "may be appropropriate for radiologists or physiatrists" sounds fairly hostile as well.As for discography, their approach to lumbar discography is reasonable.NASS and ISIS are only GUIDELINES not standards and there is no proof that there is an increased infection rate with single STYLETTED needle discography vs. double needle technique.They do not complain about L5-S1 access, rather that it is more difficult and that double-needle technique is often unnecessary.It makes sense to perform discography with a single needle since the new intradiscal procedures are performed that way.The authors do not list "pseudoarthrosis" as a contraindication to discography, but do list a solid posterolateral bone fusion as one due to lack of access.Read more

Incredible source of insight
I wish they would make another edition, even though its expensive, well worth its read. written well enough for both laymen and professional. It gets kind of technical at the end, but once you've read enough of the other books, you pretty much can get an idea of the clinical stuff.
Making a difficult study simply amazing!
Studying and treating Bipolar Disorder is a difficult trend. Since Kraepelin lessons became available in his book, perhaps "Manic Depressive Illness" is the first to try the almost impossible mission to launch new lights on the matter. And with an amazing approach full of eruditism as well as simplicity and warmth. Untill nowadays, extremely accurate, complete, precise and comprehensive. In little words: in all aspects, amazing!

BUY THIS BOOK
Years ago when I was hospitalized for this illness, this HUGE reference and research book literally got me through.When doctors and my own family didn't know what was going on with me, I knew because the things written in this book were detailing (to a hugely accurate degree)my own experiences. Beyond this, it gives invaluable insight into lesser-known facets of this condition that it's apparent not even some physicians have researched, so in depth. The criticisms of some semi-outdated material are valid...certainly there have been advances in medicine, in particular, in the past 10-15 years.However, the bulk of the information is current in its validity and would not change, over time.This is some intense research.There is simply no other reference book out there that is so detailed and thorough.You must buy this book if you are the least bit interested in learning about this illness.Mental health experts should be required by law to own it.Surely, if you yourself have experienced the effects of bipolar disorder or you know someone in your family or life with it, you will literally not be able to put the book down--it's fascinating! Buy it, coupled with co-author Kay Redfield Jamison's other books (she's a psychiatrist AND a bipolar/manic depressive)--she is refreshingly unashamed and clear about her own life experiences in other works.Don't expect any personal examples in this book, as it's strictly research and data. ... Amazing and very much needed in your career

Professional Counseling

Excellent
There is a lot of excellent material in this book. Yes, of the 400 pages, "only" 230 are the main text and 140 pages are model reports. I would have bought the book just for the main text. The model reports are worthy extras. Not to mention the 20 pages of "advice from the trenches".
It's not too late to learn a few excellent things!
There are only a few "how-to" books for the person who must give a learned or "expert" opinion on legal issue. Most are notably less than satisfactory. In my opinion, Babitsky and Mangraviti have tackled one of the most difficult aspects about being an "expert," that of writing a defensible report. The messages in their treatise are quite clear. "Don't commit something to paper unless you can support it with documentation!" "Write the report when you feel you fully understand the issue and not when the attorney says you are ready!" And perhaps more important, "Leave the adverbs and adjectives for your next novel!" Writing and Defending Your Expert Report
