5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant, brilliant textbook
This is a great textbook!A brilliant summation of dental implantology and restoration of implants. The text is incisive, ultra-modern, and is the product of a master thinker who understands his craft with brilliance bordering on genius. The author has written a text that is very rare in that it can impart a brilliant intuitive understanding of its subject to the reader. Most dental textbooks fail in this regard. One of the best dental textbooks ever written.Excellent illustrations and influential text that will provide the reader with a strong intuition about implantology.A truly evidence-based text, where the author takes great pains to cite just the right study to illustrate the right concept at the right time in the text.A welcome departure from much of the drivel that passes for dental scholarship nowadays. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!
At last a text with up to date radiological anatomy of the head and neck. We all know that this is potentially the most challenging area to interpret and none of the standard texts to date are equal to demonstrating the level of exquisite detail obtained by modern imaging techniques. The radiological images and the illustrative drawings are excellent and the organization correlates well with the problems likely to be found in radiological practice. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Terrible binding
The binding of the thick and heavy book is terrible. Many pages just fell apart about one month or so after I bought it. Also, I found there are some problems with its organization. For example, it is kind of confusing to describe both benzodiazepines and barbiturates together.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Awful, Not Great
There are many good things to say about this text. It is through, has great cross-references, and is relatively cheap. Sadly, however, that is pretty much where the positive ends and the negative begins.
1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
This text is required at my medical school. The text is dense and unapproachable, but that isn't my main complaint-the organization is TERRIBLE. One drug can be covered in multiple different chapters, but none of the chapters really have a great description! For example, B blockers are covered under "Autonomic Drugs", "Anti-Hypertensive Agents", and "Heart Failure Drugs"... just for starters! Anywhere you can use a B blocker, there's a separate discussion. Just give me ONE chapter on B blockers that actually talks about all of their uses!

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior to other References
The Drug Information Handbook for Advanced Practice Nurses is the Nurse Practitioners premiere drug reference.Drugs are arranged alphabetically by both generic and brand name. Each drug is discussed at it's generic listing.Brand names give the generic name and page number allowing quick reference. The content is very encompassing with nearly all new and old drugs referenced. The usual categories of drug name, therapeutic category, use, etc are included.I find the section on patient information and instruction most helpful in discussing agents with patients. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Goljan Path
This is the single most useful and board relevant book on the market.I had the pleasure of using this text in accompaniment with Dr. Goljan's audio lectures from a review course. The two resources, audio and text, proved to be invaluable in both building my confidence and ability to disect the USMLE Step I exam.Additionally, the images used in the text and referenced in the audio lectures were in fact the very same pictures I saw on my test.I must clarify, however, the audio lectures are not sold with the text. They can, however, be found on the web for those who are really interested.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget the DSM!
I agree Dunn and Wolz have said it all regarding the PDM. I have only one criticism of this excellent diagnostic volume, that the descriptions of the disorders are too brief. However, its brevity in that regard is instantaneously forgotten when considering it presents mental health from a truly holistic perspective. Any clinician working in the field should have this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Useful and Invaluable Resource for Psychotherapists of Most Clinical Orientations
When I first learned about the PDM, I was so intrigued about this much needed and exciting alternative to the DSM that I decided to develop a continuing education online course for psychotherapists, which provides a historical context and a systematized summary of the clinically most relevant part of the new manual. In this process I learned to appreciate that, unlike the DSM or the ICD, which focus exclusively on pathology, the PDM includes descriptions of healthy functional patterns and healthy personality. The new manual insists that personality be evaluated first, and symptoms considered as secondary, because symptoms cannot be understood, assessed, or treated in the absence of an understanding of the personality structure of the person who has the symptoms. While the PDM sees it as important to differentiate "personality disorder" from personality per se, the manual does not present a hard-and-fast dividing line between the two, but suggests a continuum of severity. In contrast to the DSM, the psychodynamic manual considers subjective experiences, typical relationship patterns, and ways of engaging in the therapeutic process in the description of a person's overall functioning. For each personality disorder, clinicians learn what transference and countertransference reactions to expect in the clinical hour and what treatment approach to consider. For many diagnoses the possible psychological roots of the client's problems are mentioned. The manual emphasizes that, depending on their evaluation of a client's location on this severity dimension, therapists need to behave with important differences in emphasis, level of activity, explicitness of boundary-setting, frequency of sessions, and other features of technique. It becomes clear that there is a continuum from exploratory to supportive treatment that correlates roughly with the level-of-organization dimension.I believe that the PDM is a useful and invaluable resource for psychotherapists of most clinical orientations.
5-0 out of 5 stars I don't even know what else to say...
Dr. Peter B. Dunn summarized this book fantastically in his review. Even upon first skimming the book, I was shocked at how clearly and realistically diagnostic categories are presented (the key word being REALISTICALLY). If you are even simply interested in therapy, this is a book that you must own. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have!
This little guide may seem confusing at first glance, but it is quite helpful once you figure out how to use it!You'll still need a prescribing reference for dosages, etc. but this gives you a place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must on the wards
Always a great help for any medical student or resident, especially in primary care. If you're going to be culturing something, you need to know what to treat empirically with until the C&S comes back, and that's where Sanford's is a great help. It's not quite an ID consult, but it works until they show up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great daily reference--in clinic and hospital
Great quick pocket reference, use it daily for both out-pt and in-pt infectious disease treatment.Details first line therapy (and includes pediatric doses), and gives concise clinical criteria for back-up choices (eg. treatment failures, associated comorbidities, drug allergic patients).

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
If you are on a anethesia rotation this is a must have. Easy to read and helps you with all aspects of your rotation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction
Unlike some people, I found this book to be very readable, which in my opinion makes it an excellent choice to start off your anesthesia training with.I found that it offers a quick run-through of most topics.Unfortunately, I haven't opened this book since I finished my first year.Instead I go to the more detailed texts.I'm not sure about studying for the boards from it.It doesn't seem to me like it has enough information. But anyways, I think that it's a great introduction and I have to say that it helped me many, many times during my first few months in anesthesia.I would buy this book again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the written boards
Do yourself a favor when you start to REALLY study for the writtens.Take ALL of your other anesthesia books and stack them in the corner across the room. Then sit down and basically KNOW THIS BOOK FRONT TO BACK (about 4 or 5 different colors of highlighter is about right).Take a bunch of practice exams (the MGH workbook is pretty good) and you'll be ready to knock back a few cold ones the night after you smoke the writtens. Works for the Re-cert also.

4-0 out of 5 stars 39th Edition of Gray's Anatomy (Susan Standring, Ed.)
Totally distinct from earlier editions is the radically different organization of this classical textbook: the human body is no longer described as containing different systems - the skeleton, the vascular system, the nervous system,...- but the body is now divided in regions. The reason for this radical change, chief editor Susan Standring (King's College, London) explains, is that in the real world, practising clinicians in their daily practice use a regional approach, rather than a systemic view. Therefore, it is understood that the new, 39th Edition of Gray's Anatomy is more adapted to the needs of surgeons, radiologists and other clinicians, than to medical students or scientists interested in the area of human anatomy. However, there is some consideration of the editors for a section `systemic overview'. So, the endocrine system, the blood (haematopoietic) and immune system are not entirely overlooked.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE book
This is the only anatomy book you will need, as a physician or med student, and it is beatiful to the eyes too.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK

I was a believer in First Aid and Blue Prints books that I used for steps 1 and 2.There was no Step 3 First Aid at the time and so I tried this book. This turned out to be an excellent book for step 3 review. It covered the topics sufficiently for adequate review.I used this book in conjunction with "Boards and Wards" and worked questions in the NMS step 3 books as well as the kaplan q-bank.That works. Most say that it is not necessary to spend much time studying for step 3.This is true, but you do need to study some. This book reads quickly and the information is high yield.I highly recommend it and hope that new editions are released over the years. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good book for what it is...
As with all economics textbooks and the subject of economics in general, this book is a bit dry. That said however, it's quite thorough in its coverage of how consumers, producers, and insurers make decisions about health and health care.It gives explanations that are rather simple to understand and goes in depth as far as would be considered normal for a 300 level elective course.I should probably note that my instructor is one of the book's authors, so take my review how you will. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I have used this book extensively in family medicine clinic and it is a great resource.I only gave it 4 stars because I thought the pages in the previous version were easier to read with larger print, particularly for my geriatric patients. The newer edition has updated handouts but the design is not as patient friendly. It would also be nice to see the text come with a CD ROM of the text in pdf formats to print patient handouts from.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most important book in my library.
Every certified athletic trainer, primary care physician, coach, or anyone else who has contact with the injured athlete should own this book. I use this text every day. It is the most useful resource in my professional library. This book is so easy to understand it makes an excellent text for parents of active young people. Dr. Rouzier's book is a "home run".

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Office Should Have This Book!
Dr. Rouzier's book is exactly what I had been trying to find.My patients always used to ask, "Can you write that down for me?" after I finished explaining their condition and assigned home exercises.Trying to create my own handouts had been on my "To Do" list for years.I have looked at other products but they were either too expensive (most of which were large computer software programs) and or more than I wanted or needed in my practice. This book is perfect--and Dr. Rouzier has done all the work for you."The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor" is well written, has an easy-to-use layout, includes great graphics and information, and the best thing--encourages making copies of the handouts to give to your patients.I use it every day in my Chiropractic practice. It also saves me time because I can now briefly review my diagnosis with a patient and then just give them the handout--and the patients love them too. This book will pay for itself with your first patient. It is also a great reference for the non-doctor athlete to have on their own shelf. You will love this book! ...
