Dissapointingly Deceiving
If you are in search of an autobiography of a dedicated and intrinsically emotional scientist, then this is the book for you.However, if truly interested in the actual neuroscience this book claims to teach, search for a more nonfictional and scientific work.Pithy factual information of such molecules of emotion is obstructed with unnecessary personal dramatics and stories loosely tied to the intended subject matter.While the book provides insight to the life of a cutting-edge scientist, the autobiographical nature obscures the supposed purport of the book: to teach the neuroscience of emotions.

Molecules of Emotion
This is an outstanding book by an outstanding woman who's science has had, or should have, an enormous impact on our knowledge of what and how we really are.

Your Lifesaver in Fluid & Electrolytes Ocean!
I purchased this book with some doubt, because you see a very high variability in these series. Now, i am very happy. Every medical student and resident gets frustrated with fliuid and electrolytes. Reading textbooks makes it worse. I have seen a lot of attendings and Nephrologists (!!) who are scared of this subject. This book can help you tremendously. It is written in a very simple language and gives you the proper approach to fluid and electrolyte problems. It is full of practical examples that you will see every day and shows you how to solve them. After reading this book, you will be confident enough to deal with electrolytes. Instead of replacing electrolytes blindly with K-Dur and Neutra-Phos and .... and not knowing what to do with Hyponatremia, you will have a nice framework in your brain to deal with them. And the best part: It is a small book. Don't hesitate to get it. You won't regret.

Good but not good enough!
This book does only provide some miner basic understanding of Na, K, and acid base pathophysiology and replacement. Other e-lytes such as magnesium, calcium, phosphor and especially the interaction of those is completely missing. The acid base part is ok for getting a basic understanding of whats going on.
Practically Life savor for both you and patient
I hardly anytime would give "5" stars to any products, but this just blew my doubts and misunderstanding out to pieces. I don't want to sound too explicit, but actually it's better than sex when you understand something and everything come to senses.

A HIGH QUALITY E-BOOK DENTED BY USE-RESTRICTIONS
HARRISON'S is synonymous with clinical books that worth their weights in gold. This 15th/ed CD-ROM maintained that tradition. It adds the much-needed portability to some 2700-paged heavyweight. I have been reading Harrison's Medicine right from my residency. Its a fabulous book one can refer to as an undergraduate or postgratuate student. However for a practitioner one would prefer to have little more stress onmanagement details. Adding audio to CD of the same book will make it moreuseful.Read more

The Heart Can Thrive on Positive Thoughts.
Dr. Oz, the heart wizard, is of Turkish descent and attempts to combine East and West traditions of healing during post-surgery.He is a heart surgeon located in New York City.First of all,he is searching for the elusive one universal healing endeavor.Some things we all need are recommended such as Love is a major healing force, as is religious faith in one God.He is of the opinion that modern medicine is not perfect.Nothing is perfect, not even beauty, he says.

Useful reference
This is an excellent concise introduction to cardiac catheterization.This book is now in its 4rth edition published in 2003 and includes a wealth of material on the basics of this field.650 pages encompass 10 chapters on topics such as arterial and venous acess, hemodynamic data, angiographic data, EP studies and ablation, research techniques, special techniques, high-risk cardiac catheterization, and interventional techniques.The book includes specific, how-to information.However, this short text is not intended to fully teach such advanced techniques as catheter ablation or interventional cardiology. Very useful tables and clear diagrams are included (496 illustrations).
This is a essential reference, but
I have been a cath labo nurse for 3 months.This is a nice book for cath labo staff like me, but there isn't so many figure enough to understand coronary anatomy in angiography and electorophysic study.

a life-changing read
This is the most amazing nutrition book I've ever read- and I've read many. The amount of data, the photographs, the anecdotes, all point to an obvious conclusion. I am simply shocked that his work is not better known. After reading this book I understand why the health of so many in the world today is so poor. This book provides all the answers. I know with absolute certainty now what constitutes a healthy diet. This book will fascinate you, educate you, and leave you feeling shocked. HIGHLY recommended!

The Answer to our Dietary and Health Confusion
One day we are told that fats are bad and that we must avoid them at all costs.Next we are told that carbs are the enemy.The experts cannot seem to make up their minds on which individual foods are good for you and which are bad.If all else fails, they fall back on the need for "moderation".Wouldn't it be nice if there were some really rock-solid nutritional research one could rely upon?Wouldn't it be comforting if we had research more compelling than "Food X just might raise your blood cholesterol a bit, and if that happens you just might be at a slightly higher risk for getting heart disease?"

A great cookbook for everyone!
I originally bought this book because my father had cancer and I am not the best cook. However, I use it all the time now for my entire family. They love the recipes and they are quick and easy to prepare.
Be careful with this approach
If you subscribe to the view that cancer diets should focus on low fat, low sugar, and food that maintains low blood glucose levels this is a book to avoid. Receipes frequently used all purpose flour, refined sugar, powdered sugar, white potatoes, and margarine.People who have read and accept the principlesin "What To Eat If You Have Cancer" will find this cookbook difficult to use without careful receipe selection and ingredient substitution.

Fabulous and "A Must Have" Just what the Dr. Ordered
I recently purchased this book for my dad. The side effects of cancer are so grueling. This book is organized for quick access in the first few pages with all of the recipes categorized by symptom or side effects a person may be having.Also gives great menu ideas. It gives clear advice on what to do to use food as a FUEL for the FIRE to FIGHT the cancer. bible of neurology
Bradle's nicp is certainly the most complete refere I've ever known. Why? Because if you want a information about any neurological disease, you find it, with deeper aproach than other books. Good text.
A letdown....
Any large 2 volume reference text certainly looks impressive.But, unfortunately, NICP is only superficially attractive.I have used this as a reference many times and have closed the book without gaining any satisfactory answers.Considering it's size and price, NICP is a huge letdown.The online subscription service is costly, but at least it gets continuously updated and has videos to boot.

5 stars, not for believing this , but for the choice;
Yes, much of Clark's work seems extreme, perhaps if mainstream medicine was a little more intellectually honest, we wouldn't need to go so far off the 'course'. For instance; When early detection is credited for longer lives, consider that in most cases, all of the 'extended' life is the time that the test was moved up,(if you took the test a year sooner, you lived an 'extra' year), ie; no real increase. Consider that many medical tests,(biopsies and mammographies), actually force open 'scar'-sealed cancer cells that never would've entered the bloodstream if left alone. Consider that many types of cancer are known by your doctor to kill you at the same point in your painful chemo and radiation treatments as you would've died , without pain, if not treated at all, yet they do their best to keep that fact unknown to their patients. Consider how the medical establishment at large claim that diet has minimal effect on helping patients,(have you ever eaten hospital food)? Ifphysicians want us to stop patronizing the 'kooks', then they had better start learning, and passing on, the truth. (Add to Mr Lewandoski): You confuse the mean, median, and mode. If you remove infant deaths and deaths from formerly untreatable war injuries from the "average age" of death, the population often lived aslong as,(and in better shape than), our current 'averages', and without all the supposed help of our modern hospitals and nursing homes. There was never an historical time when the average man was simply dropping dead at thirty, unless he was shot.

Effective diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit disorders, based on data, not dogma
Healing ADD is a very readable presentation of the scientific evidence for Attention Deficit Disorders.It contains effective treatment recommendations, based on real world clinical experience. Insightful case histories accompany SPECT brain scans of actual patients, illuminating the physical reality of the disorders and the impact of various pharmaceutical, nutritional, psychotherapy and herbal treatments.
Safe, is it really?
In page xvii of the introduction, Dr. Amen writes "Stimulant medications such as Adderall, Ritalin, or Dexedrine are among the safest and most effective medications in psychiatry". That sounds reassuring until you read the article in Medical News Today (August 22, 2006) mentioning that "Dexedrine and Ritalin are drugs used to treat ADHD. The FDA announced changes to their labels, and possibly those of some other ADHD drugs, to include a warning of a risk of heart problems and psychotic behavior". That is not reassuring at all. This book is writing in an authoritative style - sort of the bible of ADHD, the book that tells you what it is, and how to go about it. The only problem is that it is flawed.

Dr. Amen did an excellant job of explaining ADHD and the brain based research that he's done in a way that's easy to read and understand.It's a great resourse for those looking to understand how the brain is affected by this disorder and the way a variety of treatments can be effective. ... Theoretical Understanding
This book is a great resource for developing a theoretical understanding of narrative therapy. Specific techniques such as letter writing and certificates are described in detail. However, if you are looking for a how-to guide on narrative therapy, I would suggest "Playful approaches to serious problems: Narrative therapy with children and their families" by Freeman, J.,Epston, D., & Lobvits, D. (1997).

A left hand turn in therapy (for the better).
I was surprised to read the other negative reviews of this book. This book is, after all, the text which defined the philisophical underpinning of a new way of looking at expertise in therapy.Yes, much of the book, especially the discussion of Foucault's ideas, is hard going and at times requires a second or even third read.This is not a "how to" book.It is an invitation to a way of thinking about problems and their role in a life.It is a book about the transformative value of conversations, viewpoints and relationship.This book is not for sissies, but it is brilliant.Those who want a "narrative primer" should be able to find one elsewhere.However, they will be skipping the magic of transformative thought.Michael White and David Epston have unleased the power of alternatives for those oppressed by problems and by society.An amazing read!

A disappointment
I'm a professional psychotherapist. I got interested in this book after reading a recent article about how survivors of rape, torture and other violence in Sudan were being helped with brief narrative therapy. Learning about a fresh approach to a seemingly impossible therapeutic task inspired me. I decided to learn more about it. I'm afraid I didn't learn much from this book.

Good reference, not quite what I expected
It was probably my fault for not giving the book 5 stars.I was expecting a book that would be a little easier to use in practice.This book does a really good job of giving various physical exam tests.It has lots of good pictures and other graphics.My two complaints, and what bumped this book down to a 4 instead of a 5, is that it is a little too "all over the place" with the exam.I would have preferred a book that helped me to focus.In that respect, Cooper's Pocket Guide and Hoppenfeld's physical exam book are much better.Also, I would have liked to have some treatment sections in this book.Still, all in all it's a good buy.

Best Orthopedic Exam Reference Textbook
This is the best orthopedic exam textbook I've found. It has good illustrations, is very inclusive in its content, and is well organized. You could think of it as a sort of illustrated orthopedic examination encyclopedia. It's a bit burdensome to read (and carry) because of its inclusiveness nature. So don't think you'll be carrying this one in your pocket for each exam. However, you'll be glad you have it on your shelf for reference. Great work Magee! This one is well worth purchasing. Especially if you are thinking of, or can afford, only buying one orthopedic examination reference. Lastly, don't expect treatment therapies from this book. It is purely diagnostic.

I took a psych course from Bandler when he was a grad student at CMU in 68. He was quite shallow then believing in overly simplisticmodels of human behavior. I've read a number of his books and while they promise qite a bit they don't work all that well. Recall the old saying, "seek simplicity and distrust it". This book explains Bowen's Extended Family Therapy Theory.This is one of the most important family systems theories in the history of family therapy and it is still one of the most widely used theories for working with families.Anyone that is studying family therapy should read this book as it is the seminal work on Bowen Therapy.Essential ideas such as triangling, emotional fusion, and intergenerational transmission are well explained. Grant Wiggins, Warmed-Over
I got this book after reading the reviews posted here, and found it rather disappointing. First, the authors have taken from Grant Wiggins the idea that 'authentic assessment' should include assignments that test 'real-world' skills and interpreted it *very* literally; as a result you will find many examples here from soil science, forestry and engineering, but almost nothing at all from the humanities (I teach history and found no applicable examples). Combined with this is an implicit argument that the point of education is preprofessional training; the authors embrace the idea that the student is a consumer purchasing a skill set from teacher-salesmen. On top of that, it's very clumsily written. I found this a narrow and discouraging view of student-centered learning, which at its best not only applies well to the humanities, but offers a wider perspective on the 'preprofessional' as well: missing here are the ideas of generating essential questions, any discussion of how to incorporate those into syllabus design, or a coherent bigger picture in which engaging assignments that duplicate 'real-world' work are fitted into a learning trajectory. There is, however, a fair amount of discussion of the practice of assessment techniques such as the portfolio etc., but this can also be found in books that apply to a wider range of educational topics. Readers, esp. those from the humanities, interested in learner-centered assessment *and teaching* would be better served by going straight to Wiggins instead of reading the excerpted and narrower version of his arguments presented here.

Very helpful
This book provides extensive information about using online environments in the classroom.It details implementations that worked, and implementations that didn't work to show how to implement online enviornments to best benefit students.
