Recipe for success ...
This is a must-have for the I.M. CERT exam. The starred items, my favorites, pointed to recently asked material, which made my studying alot more enjoyable. In my opinion, nothing comes close to Frontrunners' review. My partners used it for their internal medicine RECERT and were equally pleased. As for me, I wouldn't have passed without it. Make sure you get through it at least twice before the exam since there was a load of material on the exam right out of the syllabus. I also went hit all of Frontrunners practice Q&A for the I.M. boards and got both from their www.frontrunners.info website (they had samples there, etc). In my opinion, if you're serious about passing or want to excel, you'd be foolish NOT to get a copy of these, even from a friend, before sitting for the exam.

this book is not worth the price
I was shocked after going through the book.This book is extremely inadequate for boards.you may get other reviews at one-fifth price.

Internal Medicine Board Review Course 2005-2006 Exceptional
My partner and I got the av-3 package from their www.frontrunners.info website in preparation for the August internal medicine board review exam because we simply had to pass. The package we got had this syllabus, over a thousand practice Q&A, obviously a huge plus on the exam, and the Audiovisual CDs from the review, which were the best we could find anywhere. We just got our board scores back from the ABIM and both of us scored in the top decile, 10, in all areas but one (which was the one chapter he didn't have time to read). I read about "Nordie's at Noon" from my weekly PEOPLE magazine subscription.I actually bought the book on vacation and could not put it down--it is a quick read, but so very powerful and inspiring.I admire these four ladies' courage and their stance not to be victims.They are true survivors and are an inspiration to anyone faced with any type of illness.I passed the book along to a friend who has breast cancer as well.When you read the book, you definitely feel like you know the four authors.I recommend this book to ALL woman!

An excellent book for all women
I read the review of this book in People magazine, and was interested enough to buy it the next day.I was not disappointed-- this a wonderful book.Not only was it an interesting and well written chronicle of 4 women's fight with breast cancer, but it was educational as well. Reading first hand accounts of how breast cancer changed the lives of young women made I could relate to made me realize it's high time I knew what a BSE (Breast Self-Examination) was!

Live, Love, Laugh, Learn
This book is an amazing story about the four women authors on their journey with breast cancer, God, family, and friends.I feel so much more enlightened and comfortable with the topic of breast cancer; I've grown tremendously from my experience reading the book.One of the mantra's for one of the authors is Live, Love, Laugh.My mantra has always been Live, Love, Laugh, Learn.I Learned a great deal from this book and believe it will help others Learn about friendship and one very important part of life no one can escape.Of course, there is a huge emphasis in the book on Living, Loving and Laughing.I gave a copy of this book to approximately 100 friends across the nation.I hope this story will help many people Learn more about their family and friends who are, or who will inevitably, Live, Love, and Laugh their way through breast cancer.My Live, Love, Laugh, Learn Campaign - "PASS IT ON!" Excellent overview of cancer biology
This book provides a comprehensive overview of cancer biology. Excellent as introductory text for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate student. Written by a lasker award winner and one of the pioneers of the molecular biological study of cancer. The accompanying CD has intersting supplimentary material especially the videos that add to the utility of the book. The accompanying poster lists the most common interconnected pathways in cancer. Highly readable and uptodate. Highly recommended for purchase.

The State of the Art as it is Known Today.
This textbook, aimed at the advanced undergraduate and graduate biology and medical students covers the basic biology of cancer at the molecular andcellular level. Research into cancer in many different directions has been continuing at an accelerated pace since about World War II. In 1975 a major breakthrough was made by H.E. Varmus and J.M. Bishop on San Francisco. The result has been the creation of the new branch of biology covered by this book.

Excellent!
Just finished taking step 3...I highly recommend First Aid, it is concise and, most importantly, the information in the text is relevant to the actual exam. It is easy to get through and I actually learned quite a bit reading it. Lastly, the description and tips it provides for the new interactive section of step 3 was invaluable, trust me.
THe only review book with CCS case work.
I've always been a fan of first aid books. painless review. read this once, did qbank and the cd for the test.

You don't need to be afraid of Statistics
This is a very friendly statistics book.It is easy to read and understand.The authors also throw in some humorous comments now and then that is something you wouldn't expect to find in a statistics book and this seemed to help with the reading.Many real world business examples are used in the book.The example problems and the end of section or chapter problems are from different areas of study such as business, political, social sciences, and science. This is great for understanding how to apply statistics in real life.I would have to say that all the topics and formulas are explained very well.In some cases there are more then one way to write a formula and Sanders and Smidt makes a point of giving you both formulas.You can decide which formula works for you.The book comes with a CD loaded with the data files for all the problems so you don't have to spend time keying in data.There are copies of the data files come in a variety of formats such as Minitab, Excel Windows, and Macintosh.For most of the example problems the book takes you through the steps using Minitab Statistical software and the TI-83 graphing calculator.You are not only learning statistics, but you are also learning how to use Minitab and the TI-83 graphing calculator.In this day and age if you are going to do statistics you need to be able to do it with a computer.I wish they would have also included examples using Microsoft Excel, which more people are apt to have then Minitab. Personally I use both Minitab and Excel. I actually enjoyed reading this book and looked forward to studying.Even though my statistics class is over this book will not be collecting dust for a while as I plan on going back through it to reread or finish reading what I missed or skimmed over. There are still a lot of the problems that I want to do to reinforce what I have already learned.This is a great statistics book to keep as a reference. Pictures are sometimes confusing
I bought this book for the ASL class I am taking. I missed one week and tried to use the book to teach myself the missed lesson. I did not understand about a third of the diagrams on how to do the different signs. I have seen some sources with explanations to accompany signs which would have made this book much clearer.

Learning American Sign Language
This book is a good one to accompany an ASL class.It is hard to display three dimensional signs on a two dimensional picture.The aid of an instructor makes up for this difficulty.Also some of the vocabluary is not quite right for conversations.The instructor helps straighten out these conflicts.It is a good book with a lot of information as a textbook should be and that is why it is a required text for the class I am taking.

Not the best way to learn Sign language

need more detail
I bought this book thinking it would be a more specicfic musculoskeletal companion to Braddom's generalized PM&R textbook. Unfortunately the treatment paragraphs (most important section from my perspective) for each topic were very thin and nonspecific.They were woefully inadequate for an attending or physiatry resident.I sent the book back which unfortunately meant I didn't get to critique the DVD.

This is a terrific book. Like the previous reviewer, I am deducting a point for the films not being what they could have been.Also, the print out exercise instructions were not as good as I hoped...but still useful...

I have had issues dealing with past emotional pains and while I have not yet gone through this whole book, I am definately finding help and a greater understanding of my problems through the portions that I have gone over.I cannot wait to finish this and to see my complete transformation from a person who just floats from mood to mood without taking resposibility for them, to a person who is aware and is taking responsibility for her emotional destiny.

4.5 stars for poor portability
I rate it 4.5 stars only because this book is way too big to carry to class--it's like putting a baby in your backpack. On top of the syllabi you have to lug around, the weight is ridiculous. In terms of the actual content, it's an excellent desktop resource. All drugs are organized by disease state. Literally, the drug Bible (tissue paper pages and all). I recommend it for at home/pharmacy use only, otherwise you might need a forklift.

Applied Therapeutics
Not just a drug reference, this is a clinical book.... teaches critical thinking and application of drugs, recommended by many PharmD's. You'll use it for ever.

Neuropsychological Assessment
This is a brilliant book. A must have for anyone doing psychometric testing!

Best thing going
this book is the seminal work in the field, in my opinion. the book is very comprehensive and well-organized, and you don't have to be a neuropsychologist to understand or use it. it is a great reference for therapists and patients alike who are looking for an increased understanding of brain function and behavior. of course, it is also an excellent resource on conducting neuropsychological testing and can help practitioners of all sorts make a more educated guess regarding the need for assessment/referral.

As much as I need to know and a little bit more
As a student of neuropsychology, I am aware of an overlap between what I must know and what an M.D. studies at a far greater depth. This book, as previous reviewers have noted, is a good introduction for a medical student, and for a psychologist, it is a gold mine. I wish I had read it before taking the gross anatomy class.The illustrations are first rate in my opinion, and the structures, their functions, and differential diagnosis information is very helpful for my professional needs.

Neuroclinical Diagnosis
Terrific book, great neurology diagnosis book for anyone.Great pictures, easy to read and understand.Great case studies as well.

Ideal neuroanatomy text for med students/residents
I'm a seasoned clinical neurologist and bought this book to refresh my knowledge of neuroanatomy.To all the med students and residents out there reading this, I can assure you that virtually all of the information in the book is used by practicing neurologists on a daily basis.This is stuff you really need to know; by the time you're in my situation most of it is second nature.The author does a great job of presenting, just as the title promises, clinically oriented neuroanatomy.It goes beyond that, though, because there's also a fair number of elementary discussions of common neurological diseases, including differential diagnosis and treatment considerations.A nice learning feature are the frequent mnemonics scattered through the text, e.g. for the functions of the hypothalmus, HEAL=homeostatic, endocrine, autonomic, limbic.The illustrations are gorgeous, and the case presentations with accompanying MRI/CT are excellent.Strongly recommended. ... good resource for IM residents
It's very resourceful.Just a bit heavy to carry around.I should have chosen the PDA version.

Great for review, but you will need to go deeper
Although I consider this to be one of the best handbooks for a quick superficial review, there are several other books which allow for more in depth learning while on the wards... such as The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine & of course... The Washington Manual. I would definitely carry around, or at least have handy, one of these while on the wards. If you get Pocket Med, make sure you get the new edition (2nd) as there is a new neurology section which is very nice. ... Read more

An ideal and a superb text
This book is a classic reference text in neurology surpassing any other book in the field . Every resident in neurology should possess one and neurologists are no exemption . The minute details in genetics are kept to the bare minimum and at the same time the clinical aspects are stressed . The neuroanatomy and physiology at the beginning are simply fantastic. Kudos to Professor A. Ropper .

It's not the most complete reference in neurology, but it's objective, go straight to the point, suitable clinical information. I recommend.

Excellent, inspiring and reassuring advice
My wife and I have been married for 7 years. We have had a great time together but gradually we started being colder and less anticipating. It was obvious that the things were going in a bad direction. I was reluctant to rely on a book but a friend of mine recommended me this one so I bought it. I completely agree that this is an excellent book!
This is NOT a self-help manual - thank goodness!

Best radiology book on the market, great for nat'l boards
I graduated chiropractic school this year.I used this book in school and found this it to be filled with lots of info on soft and hard tissue pathology.The radiographs are excellent in this book.Every condition from spinal bifida occulta to fibrous dysplasia is described with the utmost detail.Every chapter has a helpful summary that summarizes all the important points of each condition.I also used this book to help me study for Part II, III and IV of the National Boards.However, if you really want a great book to study for the national boards do what my study group and I did, get the following: Yochum & Rowe Essentials
An essential text for all chiropractic and medical students as well as practicing doctors.Useful write-ups on hundreds of conditions.Wonderful coverage of arthritides and tumors.Huge section on normals and a small section on positioning.The only place it's lacking is in chest and abdomen, and that's because it's a book on skeletal radiology.I couldn't do without it.

Great!
I am currently a second year PA student.This has been an amazing help on my rotations, all of them.I recommended it several of my classmates; they also love it.We have a test at the end of each rotation, and this is a perfect way to review. Just the facts without much fluff.It is also a handy reference in the clinic.

It became boring. Look at the endocrinology section. It claims if there is only one study related to selenium theraphy in autoimmune thyroiditis in the editions of 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006...
